A divided Supreme Court on Thursday refused to immediately reinstate a pair of independent regulators fired by the Trump administration, saying the president may have the power to summarily oust the board members and calling into question a 90-year-old legal precedent that has protected the independence of key regulatory bodies.

On Thursday the Texas Legislature approved House Bill 1393, which would make daylight saving time permanent across the state abolishing the current requirement for biannual clock changes. The bill will now go before Governor Greg Abbott who can sign it into state law, though even if this happens the change wouldn't actually take effect without changes to superseding federal legislation.

The Texas House passed a bill Wednesday banning products that contain THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. The legislation is headed to Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) desk. While products are currently allowed to have trace amounts of Delta 9 THC, the bill would bar them from having any of the substance. In addition, it would ban alternative forms of THC people use to get high, including Delta 8, Delta 10, THCA, THCV, THCP, and THC-O-acetate.

A federal judge on Thursday blocked President Trump’s executive order aimed at dismantling the Education Department and ordered officials to reinstate thousands of fired employees in a ruling that was at least a temporary setback for the president and his plans. The decision from Judge Myong J. Joun of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts was a preliminary injunction, meaning it will remain in force until the case is resolved or a higher court overturns it.
