Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello has been a fan of the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal since their self-titled debut album was released in 2014. Four years later, while recording his collaborative solo album The Atlas Underground, he reached out to the group to see if they were interested in participating. However, they weren’t available at the time. Now, in 2025, Morello appears on their song “METALI!!” from the album Metal Forth. In an interview with Metal Hammer, the musician talked about the band, explaining why he loves them. Tom Morello praised the Japanese band Babymetal “I’ve been a fan of Babymetal since I first heard them. I reached out to their management when I was making my Atlas Underground album [in 2018], which was a collaborative work with various artists, and at the time they were unavailable, and I was disappointed. Later on, they reached back out to me, asking if I was still interested in collaboration. Of course, I jumped at the chance.” “(...) I love heavy riffs, and the Babymetal Metali!! song has a collaborative heaviness that I think in many regards fits very well in my riffology catalogue. I also shredded some solos on the track. (...) I love what they have brought to the metal scene. It is an absolute breath of fresh air to have a band that has a completely different spin on a genre that often runs on the same cart tracks,” Tom Morello said. Babymetal was formed in 2010 in Tokyo, Japan and their current line-up has the singers Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Momometal (Momoko Okazaki). The mastermind behind Mammoth, Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the late legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, revealed in an interview with Drumeo that although his father was talented and experienced, he struggled with anxiety, especially before each show. According to him, that's why Eddie used to drink before the shows, to relax. His father sadly passed away in 2020 at the age of 65, after years battling cancer. Eddie Van Halen's son tells how his father dealt with anxiety "No, it literally just happened (Me joining Van Halen). Dad was newly sober. I mean, the reason he really drank the most was because of his anxiety. Yeah, Eddie Van Halen was (anxious). He got very anxious before shows, and that's why he drank. And, I think, having me there really centered him. Like, he would even say, 'F**k, if my 15-year-old-son could f**king do it, then what's wrong with me?'" "We just started jamming out of nowhere. I made a playlist of all kinds of tunes, and I went home and learned them, and then we just started jamming. I put both Hagar- and Roth-era stuff on there. And I remember when we finally got Dave in, we showed him the list of the songs we've been practicing. He picks [it] up and goes, 'What's 'Get Up?' And Iwas like, 'Oh, f**k! Don't look at that list!' [laughs]" "The first song we played was 'On Fire'. I remember that, which is partly why I wanted to play that at the Hawkins tribute. It's so left field. The Police bassist and vocalist Sting paid tribute to the Beach Boys' mastermind Brian Wilson, performing the classic "God Only Knows" during his solo show in Rostock, Germany last June 11, the day Wilson's passing was announced. One of the most unique Progressive Rock bands of all time, Rush entered Rock history with their classic line-up which had Geddy Lee (Vocals, bass, keyboards), Alex Lifeson (Guitar) and Neil Peart (Main lyricist and drummer). Their main influences were British bands like Cream and Led Zeppelin and the Prog Rock groups that appeared especially after 1967, when two seminal albums for the music genre were released: Pink Floyd "The Piper At The Gates of Dawn" and The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Over the decades he talked about many of these bands and one of them was Pink Floyd, which is the most successful Progressive Rock band of all time. He said "Comfortably Numb" has one of the best guitar solos of all time Geddy is a huge Led Zeppelin fan and when talking to Classic Rock in 2021 about his love of the album "Led Zeppelin IV", he said that alongside "Stairway To Heaven", Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" also has one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. “On one hand you’ve got Stairway To Heaven. That (one) and (Pink Floyd’s) Comfortably Numb vie for the greatest guitar solo ever recorded," he said. Although the members of Rush never played with Pink Floyd or its members, the drummer Neil Peart tried to do so back in the early ’90s. As he said in an interview for PROG magazine in 2013, he offered to play drums at Roger Waters’ classic show at the Berlin Wall in 1990. "I heard that Roger Waters was planning the Berlin performance of The Wall. I also heard that he was having international performers and all of that. So I wrote to him - faxed at the time.
