5 Wins That Trump’s New Deputy FBI Director Scored as Missouri Attorney General

President Donald Trump announced this week that Missouri’s Republican attorney general, Andrew Bailey, will join Dan Bongino as co-deputy director of the FBI. “He has served as a distinguished attorney general for Missouri and is a decorated war veteran, bringing expertise and dedication to service,” U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said. “His leadership and commitment to country will be a tremendous asset as we work together to advance President Trump’s mission. While we know this is undoubtedly a great loss for Missouri, it is a tremendous gain for America.” Bailey said of his appointment: “My life has been defined by a call to service, and I am once again answering that call, this time, at the national level.”  Here are five things to know about Bailey’s time as attorney general: Protecting Kids From Gender Ideology Bailey won a lawsuit in April to compel Planned Parenthood to produce documents related to the “gender transition” of minors in Missouri. “This case is not just about documents—it’s about exposing institutions that mislead families, conceal critical information, and prey on vulnerable children under the guise of ‘care,’” Bailey said in a statement at the time. “My office is committed to uncovering the truth, holding bad actors accountable, and cutting through the noise and deception used to normalize irreversible procedures on minors.” Bailey started investigating the use of “transgender” hormones, puberty blockers, and surgeries for minors in the state in March 2023 after a former caseworker at the Washington University Transgender Center said the center rushed children into treatment. Bailey’s office sent civil investigative demands to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Washington University in St. Louis, and the state’s two branches of Planned Parenthood. Protecting the Unborn In January 2023, abortion activists filed suit seeking to dismantle Missouri’s pro-life law, which protects life starting at conception. Bailey responded by filing a motion to dismiss the legal challenge. In June 2023, the St. Louis Circuit Court dismissed 10 of the 11 challenges brought by the activists. The following October, the court dismissed the 11th count and granted Bailey’s motion to dismiss. “Today marks a significant triumph for women and their unborn children as a Missouri court has once again sided with our office in our endeavors to uphold the sanctity of life,” Bailey said at the time. This July, Bailey filed a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood for allegedly deceiving women about the safety and efficacy of the abortion pill. The petition seeks more than $1.8 million in civil penalties for daily violations of Missouri law and up to $1,000 in damages or restitution for every Missouri woman Planned Parenthood provided abortion pills to in the past five years. Securing the Border In November 2024, Bailey and 16 other state attorneys general obtained a court order throwing out the Biden-Harris administration’s “parole in place” rule that allowed millions of illegal immigrants to obtain permanent residency in the U.S. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris created a crisis at the southern border, leaving the American people to pay the consequences. In the wake of the federal government’s refusal to act, states like Missouri had no choice but to step in and take action to secure our southern border,” Bailey said at the time.  The “parole in place” program would have allowed aliens who had been unlawfully present in the United States for 10 or more years to receive a grant of “parole.” Aliens married to a citizen or the stepchild of a citizen would not have been required to leave the country. Bailey also filed a lawsuit in July 2024 against the Biden administration for reportedly flying illegal aliens to the Show Me State to try to settle them there. Holding China Accountable This March, Bailey won a $24 billion judgment in federal court against the Chinese Communist Party for “unleashing the COVID-19 pandemic.” “This is a landmark victory for Missouri and the United States in the fight to hold China accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world,” Bailey said. “China refused to show up to court, but that doesn’t mean they get away with causing untold suffering and economic devastation. We intend to collect every penny by seizing Chinese-owned assets, including Missouri farmland.” The federal court ruled that Missouri “has established this claim of damages through evidence satisfactory to the court,” proving that China caused and exacerbated the COVID-19 pandemic. Bailey announced Missouri would collect the $24 billion judgment and, if necessary, work with the Trump administration to identify and seize Chinese-owned assets in the state. Deregulating Energy In 2023, Bailey successfully blocked the Biden administration’s attempt to impose regulations that he said would increase the price of energy for Missourians. The order prevented the Environmental Protection Agency from imposing the regulations during the appeals process. “We have secured a court order BLOCKING the Biden administration’s mandate that forces businesses to track and report greenhouse gas emissions,” Bailey said on X at the time. “This mandate would’ve cost Missouri businesses millions of dollars per year.” The post 5 Wins That Trump’s New Deputy FBI Director Scored as Missouri Attorney General appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Texas Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett Announces Potential Retirement

Texas Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett Announces Potential Retirement

Texas Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett has announced he will not seek reelection if Republicans’ new congressional map becomes the law of the land in the Lone Star State. If the new congressional lines go through, Doggett will likely have to face off against fellow Democrat Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, in what could shape up to be a brutal primary race. At 78 years old, he would be battling a member of the new cohort of Democrats. Casar is 36 and took office in 2023. By contrast, Doggett has served in the House of Representatives since 1995. Before that, he was a justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1989 to 1994 and a member of the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. The Texas legislator was the first incumbent Democrat member of Congress to publicly call for then-President Joe Biden to step aside after his disastrous debate performance against then-former President Donald Trump in 2024. “I had hoped that my commitment to reelection under any circumstances would encourage Congressman Casar to not surrender his winnable district to Trump,” Doggett said in a statement on Thursday. “While his apparent decision is most unfortunate, I prefer to devote the coming months to fighting Trump tyranny and serving Austin rather than waging a struggle with fellow Democrats. If [President Donald Trump’s] extreme gerrymandering prevails, I wish Congressman Casar the best,” Doggett continued. Doggett has a strong connection to Austin, a city he represents in Congress, having been born there. He attended the University of Texas at Austin for both his undergraduate education and law school. Doggett currently holds the position of the ranking member of the Health Subcommittee on the House Ways & Means Committee.  Doggett, like fellow members of the Democrat Party, has moved left on some social issues over time. The Texas Democrat supported the Defense of Marriage Act that banned federal recognition of same-sex marriage in 1996. But in 2022, he voted for the Respect for Marriage Act, which repealed the Defense of Marriage Act and validated same-sex marriage at the federal level. Doggett earned a 100% from the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (now Reproductive Freedom for All) in 2003, and an “F” grade from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America from the 118th Congress. Doggett was a member of the so-called Killer Bees, Democrat state senators who stopped Republicans in the Texas state capital from conducting legislative business in 1979 by preventing them from obtaining a quorum. That move was partially replicated recently when some Democrats fled Texas to temporarily stop the vote on congressional redistricting. The Daily Signal did not receive a reply to a request for comment from Doggett’s office. The post Texas Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett Announces Potential Retirement appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Trump Admin Finds University’s DEI Policies Violate Civil Rights Act

The U.S. Department of Education found that George Mason University violated civil rights laws in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion policies—potentially calling into question the future of the school’s already embattled president.  The department accused Virginia’s largest public university of violating Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act by illegally using race and other characteristics in hiring and promotion policies.  Title VI prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal funding. A violation could result in losing federal funds. “In 2020, University President Gregory Washington called for expunging the so-called ‘racist vestiges’ from GMU’s campus,” Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Craig Trainor said in a public statement on Friday. “Without a hint of self awareness, President Washington then waged a university-wide campaign to implement unlawful DEI policies that intentionally discriminate on the basis of race. You can’t make this up.” “Despite this unfortunate chapter in Mason’s history, the university now has the opportunity to come into compliance with federal civil rights laws by entering into a resolution agreement with the Office for Civil Rights,” Trainor continued.  A GMU spokesperson referred The Daily Signal to a statement from the GMU Board of Visitors.  “Today, the Board of Visitors received notification from the United States Department of Education that the university has been in violation of federal civil rights law. This is a serious matter,” the board statement says.  “The board is reviewing the specific resolution steps proposed by the Department of Education,” the statement continued. “We will continue to respond fully and cooperatively to all inquiries from the Department of Education, the Department of Justice and the U.S. House of Representatives and evaluate the evidence that comes to light. Our sole focus is our fiduciary duty to serve the best interests of the university and the people of the commonwealth of Virginia.” Earlier this month, the GMU board held a closed-door performance review of Washington amid speculation he would be fired. The board instead voted to keep him and give him a 1.5% pay increase. The review came after faculty complaints and the investigations from both the Education and Justice Departments.  In July, the Education Department opened the investigation in response to multiple GMU professors alleging the school’s leadership adopted unlawful DEI policies in 2020 to give preferential treatment to “underrepresented groups” to advance “anti-racism.” One university administrator accused Washington of creating an atmosphere of surveillance regarding DEI, according to the Education Department.   Washington, the first black GMU president, made his case to the board at the Aug. 1 meeting before it went into closed session for the review. He pointed to increased fundraising and a strong university.  “Despite the commentary you’re hearing, this institution is doing extremely well,” Washington told the board. It’s unfortunate what has happened to the university, said Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at The Heritage Foundation.  “It’s sad that the administration had to call out George Mason University, which is Virginia’s largest university,” Gonzalez told The Daily Signal. “It’s unfortunate the university’s leadership was promoting woke ideas in contravention of law and in contravention of what voters at both the federal and Virginia levels rejected.”  When the university board met on Aug. 1 to decide Washington’s future, protesters gathered outside for a “day of action,” to support Washington. It included faculty who supported Washington and who accused the Trump administration of politicizing its investigations of the school.  The post Trump Admin Finds University’s DEI Policies Violate Civil Rights Act appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Trump says Democrats are pleading with him to save their crime-ridden cities: 'They've lost control'

President Donald Trump's effective crackdown on crime in the nation's capital is beginning to catch the attention of his political opponents.Trump told reporters Friday that he has received calls from Democrats across the country asking him to clean up their cities the same way he did in Washington, D.C. In early August, Trump took bold action by federalizing the Metropolitan Police Department and deploying the National Guard, quickly reducing violent crime across the city.'Half of them got mugged and they don't want to get mugged again.'"When we're ready, we'll go in and we'll straighten out Chicago just like we did in D.C.," Trump said in the Oval Office. "Chicago is very dangerous. ... I hate to see what's happened to Chicago. Chicago was our greatest city, actually." "We've already had calls from other cities, quiet calls, calls from Democrats," Trump added. "'We'd love you to come here,' because they've lost control of their cities."RELATED: Trump to patrol DC streets alongside law enforcement amid crime crackdownPresident Trump: "When we're ready, we'll go in and straighten out Chicago just like we did in DC. "But we've had calls from Democrats and calls from people generally: 'We'd love you to come here.' Because we'll straighten out the problems." Trump clarified that Chicago "will probably be next" after D.C.'s crime is under control, followed by New York City. "African-American ladies, beautiful ladies, are saying, 'Please, President Trump, come to Chicago.' ... I think Chicago will be our next, and then we'll help with New York," he continued.Trump also highlighted the media's hypocritical coverage of the crime crackdown, pointing out that even his harshest critics are benefiting from the administration's efforts."A lot of these people that you see on television, including the people in this audience, they'll say bad things about me," Trump said, pointing to the reporters. "And then they'll say, 'Thank God he's here.' Because half of them got mugged, and they don't want to get mugged again." Like Blaze News? Fed chair Powell signals potential rate cuts — but Trump says it’s ‘too late’

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell signaled on Friday that he may consider cutting interest rates in the near future.During a speech at an annual gathering in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Powell hinted at the possibility of changes to interest rates at the next September meeting due to a "shifting balance of risks."'I personally believe the Fed could cut a full percent and still not have policy unleash inflationary pressures, but I don't foresee a cut that substantial in September.'He contended that the Federal Reserve's "restrictive policy stance" has been "appropriate to help bring down inflation and to foster a sustainable balance between aggregate demand and supply."Powell blamed "higher tariffs" for introducing "new challenges" to the U.S. economy and "tighter immigration policy" for causing an "abrupt slowdown in labor force growth." He contended that both factors have impacted demand and supply."Over the longer run, changes in tax, spending, and regulatory policies may also have important implications for economic growth and productivity," Powell claimed. "There is significant uncertainty about where all of these policies will eventually settle and what their lasting effects on the economy will be."RELATED: Powell’s tight money policy is strangling the US economy Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesHe argued that "risks to inflation are tilted to the upside and risks to employment to the downside." Powell called it a "challenging situation" given that the Fed's "framework calls for us to balance both sides of our dual mandate," referring to the labor market and price stability. However, he indicated that with the policy rate "100 basis points closer to neutral" compared to last year and stability in labor market measures, the Federal Reserve may "proceed carefully as we consider changes to our policy stance.""Nonetheless, with policy in restrictive territory, the baseline outlook and the shifting balance of risks may warrant adjusting our policy stance," Powell said.RELATED: Trump orders Labor Statistics chief to be fired over revisions in weak jobs report Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesPresident Donald Trump has repeatedly urged Powell to drop interest rates."He should have cut them a year ago. He's too late," Trump said Friday afternoon in response to Powell's speech. Blaze Media contributor Carol Roth told Blaze News, "Reading between the lines, it certainly sounded like Powell was signaling a higher likelihood of a September rate cut, something that the market had already been expecting. In terms of the Fed's stated 'dual mandate,' the pendulum seems to be swinging to more concern over the labor market than inflation, although certainly not ignoring inflation, but rather wanting to avoid a stagflation scenario," Roth said."Powell is definitely late to a rate cut, both in terms of supporting the economy and giving the Fed room in terms of future ability to raise rates in the face of any potential spikes in inflation," Roth continued. "While 25 basis points (one quarter of a percent) is the likely size of a cut, it probably isn't enough to be meaningful in terms of consumer or business behavior — it seems more symbolic. I personally believe the Fed could cut a full percent and still not have policy unleash inflationary pressures, but I don't foresee a cut that substantial in September."Like Blaze News?
