Americans Face Flight Delays As Government Shutdown Fuels Air Traffic Control Woes

Travelers are facing flight delays at airports across the country as air traffic control employees work without pay during the ongoing government shutdown. Staff callouts caused delays at Nashville International Airport on Tuesday, while Burbank Airport in California was forced to conduct air traffic control operations in San Diego on Monday, ABC 7 Los Angeles reported. Airports in Chicago, Atlanta, Newark, and other cities have also been impacted. “We’re seeing an uptick in controller shortages across the country,” the Department of Transportation said on X Tuesday. “And where are the radical Democrats? Voting against giving our great controllers a paycheck. This is the last thing they need.” A TSA spokesperson told The Daily Wire that travelers should have “patience” while flying during the shutdown, noting that the vast majority of TSA employees are considered “excepted or exempt” government employees who continue to work through the closure. “While TSA is prepared to continue screening about 2.5 million passengers a day, an extended shutdown could mean longer wait times at airports,” a spokesman wrote. But the potential for prolonged staffing shortages raises safety concerns as well. “Aviation is the safest mode of transportation, but to maintain that the system may need to slow down, reducing efficiency,” Airlines for America, an industry trade group, said. The group added that it wants to see lawmakers “act with urgency and in good faith” to end the shutdown impacting their industry. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told The Daily Wire. “Democrats need to stop putting the safety of traveling Americans at risk and join Republicans in getting our government back open,” she added. Democrats, meanwhile, insist congressional Republicans and Donald Trump are responsible for the shutdown, which is now entering its second week. “Thanks, [Trump]! Burbank Airport has ZERO air traffic controllers from 4:15pm to 10pm today because of YOUR government shutdown,” California Governor Gavin Newsom wrote on X Monday. “The Democrat Government Shutdown has real-life consequences,” White House spokesman Kush Desai told The Daily Wire. “Each day Democrats drag out their government shutdown to push free health care for illegal immigrants, it’s everyday Americans — whether they’re trying to fly or use critical government programs — who have to pay the price.” Nick Daniels, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, said during a press conference at Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday that he was there to “advocate for the end to the shutdown,” as the union advises controllers to continue working. “I’m gonna leave the political discussions for the politicians during this shutdown,” Daniels said.

Airport CHAOS: 70,000 Travelers Trapped!

Brussels faces total airport shutdown as union strikes threaten to strand 70,000 travelers—yet European leaders remain stubbornly committed to disruptive policies that frustrate hardworking families. Unions Paralyze Brussels Airports, Disrupting Tens of Thousands of Passengers On October 14, both Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi Airport will suspend all departing flights as their security and ground staff join a nationwide union strike. This action is expected to disrupt the travel plans of up to 70,000 passengers in a single day, with significant impact anticipated at one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs. Brussels Airport averages 200 departures daily and serves key international destinations, including major British cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh. The extent of inbound flight disruptions remains uncertain, pending decisions by airline staff on the level of participation in the strike. Come on @BrusselsAirport ,great to be a popular airport, but can you please invest in extra capacityGigantic security queues, with everyone stressed if they get their &friends needing to wait for 3.5 hours due to understaffed passport controls are unacceptable&bad for tourism. pic.twitter.com/4mIXCU9vX9 — Inge Brees (@IngeBrees) October 6, 2025 Government Policies Fuel Unrest and Threaten Economic Stability The strikes are the latest in a series of industrial actions across Belgium since the start of 2025, highlighting growing frustration with the government’s proposed reforms. Unions are protesting plans that would raise the retirement age and overhaul the pension system—moves they say threaten the livelihoods of everyday workers and undermine established social protections. In February, similar protests led to the cancellation of 430 flights at Brussels Airport, demonstrating the severe consequences of policy decisions that ignore public sentiment and the needs of working families. Travel Chaos and Broader Implications for Families and Businesses Brussels Airport management issued a statement confirming the complete suspension of departing passenger flights on October 14 to guarantee safety for staff and travelers. Charleroi Airport officials likewise announced the cancellation of all flights due to a lack of available personnel. These disruptions will not only inconvenience tens of thousands of passengers but also threaten business operations and family plans throughout the region. Such repeated travel chaos underscores the dangers of government overreach and the failure to prioritize stability, fiscal responsibility, and the well-being of citizens over controversial social reforms. Unions Intensify National Action Amid Widespread Discontent The October 14 strike is part of a larger wave of industrial action sweeping Belgium, driven by union opposition to a government savings plan. Nationwide, unions are escalating their tactics, signaling deeper unrest and dissatisfaction with leaders who appear out of touch with the public’s core values and practical concerns. The persistent strikes reveal a glaring disconnect between policymakers and the families whose lives are upended by each new round of disruption. Confusion Over Passenger Rights and Airline Responsibilities As passengers grapple with cancelled flights and uncertain plans, experts warn that confusion over compensation rules remains widespread. While strikes by airline staff may entitle travelers to airline-controlled remedies, most ground and airport staff actions fall outside typical compensation policies. Nevertheless, airlines retain a duty of care—meaning they must provide reasonable accommodation, meals, and support for those facing substantial delays. In the face of government-driven unrest, it is critical for travelers to know their rights and demand accountability from both airlines and elected officials. Prey Is Finally Getting the Theatrical Release Director Dan Trachtenberg Says It Was Made For

News Prey Prey Is Finally Getting the Theatrical Release Director Dan Trachtenberg Says It Was Made For The 2022 film is showing as part of a Predator double feature. By Molly Templeton | Published on October 8, 2025 Image: David Bukach. © 2022 20th Century Studios Comment 0 Share New Share Image: David Bukach. © 2022 20th Century Studios In 2022, Dan Trachtenberg’s first Predator film, Prey, was a hit—beloved by critics and audiences and the most-streamed movie the week of its release. But it was only available on Hulu, not in movie theaters. The reasons for this were somewhat corporate and technical. “I mean, look, we made it to be a big theatrical experience, and on the downside, it’s not being released that way,” Trachtenberg told Uproxx, “So Hulu hasn’t really had… There hasn’t been a 20th franchise baby that has come out yet. So they’re hoping to really ignite the platform to say, ‘We’re not just putting out the smaller, lower-budget fare. That this is also a place to have giant cinematic experiences.'” Prey deserves a giant cinematic experience, and now it’s finally getting one. On November 5, it’ll be released in theaters as part of a double feature with the new Predator: Badlands. This is a teensy bit of a sneak preview for the new film, which technically comes out on November 7th. Prey stars Amber Midthunder as a young Comanche woman who wants to be a hunter, though she’s trained as a healer—a useful skill when she and her tribe encounter an alien. Empire called it “Effortlessly the best Predator movie since the original,” writing, “Prey proves that, against all expectation, there’s life in the franchise yet, not to mention a thrilling new lead in Amber Midthunder.” Tickets for the Prey/Predator: Badlands double feature are expected to be available here (the site was live earlier but seems to have since been taken down). There’s currently no word on if AMC or other theaters will offer additional screenings.
