New music incoming. In an interview with Variety, Big Loud Executive Seth England, songwriter Craig Wiseman and producer Joey Moi talked all things music, and of course, they spoke in-depth about their flagship performer, Morgan Wallen. Of course, the topic of his extremely lengthy recent studio album I’m The Problem, and explained why Morgan has chosen to do several albums that are over 20 songs, including Dangerous: The Double Album, One Thing at a Time as well as the aforementioned I’m The Problem album. England says they never set out with that strategy, but it just happened naturally because Morgan was “hyper-creating”: “His 30-plus song efforts started with ‘Dangerous,’ just because he was hyper-creating. We never set out to do a big volume as a strategy. It only came by him sitting in the boardroom with Joey and I and going, ‘Man, I’m up to 18 songs, what am I gonna do?’ I recall a Drake album that had like 30 at the time because he just had a burst of creativity. I was like, ‘Well, man, just make the music, make it honestly, and we’ll figure this out.’ But it wasn’t based off some trite strategy.” He explained that Morgan is a “self-starter,” and everything that has to do with his music comes from Morgan himself… not these executives pushing him in one direction or another: “Another superpower Morgan has is, he’s such a self-starter. We don’t have to call him to say, ‘Hey, are you ready to make some music?’ Right now we’re two or three weeks done with his tour, and our text thread this morning was Morgan excited to get going; he’s written eight or 10 things.” It sounds like Morgan’s already working on new music, even though his album just came out in May. Moi says Morgan texted him recently and said he’s ready to start cutting songs again: “I got a terrifying text message from him: ‘Man, I think I’m ready to start cutting more songs.’ It has been like four months [since ‘I’m the Problem’ came out].” Get excited, Morgan Wallen fans… it sounds like he might be cooking up another studio album for 2026, in addition to hitting the road in his Still The Problem tour. And speaking of I’m The Problem, England also shared that 37 was a narrowed down number compared to what Morgan had written for it, which was over 150 songs… he only cut 60 out of that batch, and 37 ultimately made the cut: “You know why this one was 37? Because he recorded 60. And that’s with Joey; I can’t believe Joey’s not looking 10 years older, just because of the hours. He recorded 60 because he wrote 150, 200.”  England joked that they’ve had “wrestling matches” over some of the titles too, but Morgan has the rare ability to “self-A&R,” as Moi put it, and get it very right: “And he’ll usually give us one. He’s like, ‘Okay, let’s do that one.’ … That’s a very rare quality to see in a primary artist like that, that he can self-A&R with other people and still really drive the standard on his own music. I’ve been doing this 25 years now, and that’s a really rare quality that I might have seen maybe two, three times.” It’s really interesting to get into peak into who Morgan is an artist form the people who work with him on a daily basis and have helped him get to this point he’s at in his career, and clearly they’ve all done a lot right in producing one of the biggest music artists in the world right now. It seems like he’s not slowing down anytime soon, either, in terms of the music, with another project in the works with a big tour on the books too. Morgan is also up for several trophies at the CMA Awards this year, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year for his album I’m The Problem. He is also the reigning Entertainer of the Year and has 18 career CMA nominations in total, and has won just two of them, New Artist of the Year in 2019 and the aforementioned Entertainer of the Year in 2024.
