A former counsel for the first Donald Trump impeachment–who vowed to file 100 lawsuits this year against the second Trump administration–was scheduled to advise the staffs of Democrat governors from across the country on how to defy federal policy, according to emails.  On Jan. 21, a day after Trump’s second inauguration, Governors Safeguarding Democracy scheduled a Zoom briefing titled “Day 1 EOs: What Govs Need to Know with Norm Eisen, Protect Democracy, and Immigration Experts.” The Daily Signal obtained the records through a public records request with the office of Gov. Ned Lamont, D-Conn. Eisen is the former White House ethics counsel during President Barack Obama’s administration. Obama later appointed him as ambassador to the Czech Republic.  Eisen was later the special counsel for Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee during the first Trump impeachment in 2019 over Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s president.  Governors Safeguarding Democracy is co-chaired by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, both Democrats. In late April, Pritzker called “for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption,” because “Republicans cannot know a moment of peace.” The Daily Signal reached out to Governors Safeguarding Democracy for this story on Monday and Tuesday but did not get a response for the story by publication time. Eisen has been involved with several left-leaning nonprofits. Also participating in the scheduled conference was Protect Democracy, a separate litigation nonprofit not directly affiliated with Eisen that describes itself as “a cross-ideological nonprofit group dedicated to defeating the authoritarian threat.” Eisen is the co-founder and board member of the State Democracy Defenders Fund, a group that says it works with “national, state and local allies across the country to defend in real-time the foundation of our democracy — free and fair elections” and “We help shape the long-term strategy to defeat autocracy in 2025 — and beyond.”  The State Democracy Defenders Fund did not respond to inquiries from The Daily Signal on Monday and Tuesday for this story. Donald J. Trump” published in July 2020; “Overcoming Trumpery: How to Restore Ethics, the Rule of Law, and Democracy” in 2022; and “Trying Trump: A Guide to His First Election Interference Criminal Trial” in 2024.  Eisen is a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution, a center-left think tank, which did not respond to email and phone inquiries from The Daily Signal on Monday and Tuesday by publication time. A Jan. 10 email from Governors Safeguarding Democracy to numerous staffers of Democrat governors across the country said, “Below is a topline agenda and meeting information,” It went on to list the “Common Interest Agreement” among governors on the agenda, and “Presentation on Day 1 Immigration Plans & Potential Governor Actions.”  It added, “Q&A and Discussion,” and “Closing and Next Steps.” Following that, another email to Democrat governors staff went out on Jan. 17, which said: “Please hold this time for a briefing providing an overview on the incoming administration’s executive orders that will have the biggest impact on states.” “The briefing will be facilitated by Norm Eisen, Protect Democracy, and our team of immigration experts, and will focus on providing high-level overviews of those executive orders which Governors should be most prepared for,” the email Governors Safeguarding Democracy email continued. A cat was taken in just days before having kittens. Now, she has a great canine assistant wanting to lend a paw. Goldie and her kittensAsaGoldie, the cat, had been left to roam the streets and fend for herself. She often sought refuge at a neighbor's home to escape coyotes. Eventually, she was found to be pregnant.A veterinarian, who also volunteers for Kitten Rescue Life, heard about her plight and went to visit her. Goldie was so sweet that she "tried to jump into the vet's car" as if she was ready to leave the streets behind."She was rescued by the vet and brought into the rescue's care when she was in the last stages of her pregnancy," Asa, a volunteer with Kitten Rescue Life, shared with Love Meow. AsaAsa welcomed Goldie into her care, providing a safe haven where she could raise her kittens.Goldie made herself right at home as if she'd lived there all her life. She became an instant love bug, cuddling up to her foster mom and filling the room with her rumbling purrs. "She's a total purr bucket." AsaA few days later, Goldie went into labor and welcomed three healthy kittens (Barbara, Bernard, and Angel)—adorable mini copies of herself."She's been an absolute doll since she was found, and her personality hasn't changed at all since. She's been the sweetest, most attentive mom to her babies and has been taking amazing care of them. I've been completely hands-off aside from weighing the babies daily." President Donald Trump's border czar told Blaze Media national correspondent Julio Rosas that the Democrat who allegedly assaulted a federal agent at a New Jersey detention center should be arrested. Homan went on to say that he supports the right of Americans to protest but that anyone, including members of Congress, who step over the line into criminal activity should be arrested. 'No one is above the law. These men and women put their lives on the line every day. We should be supporting them, not assaulting them.'"Do you want the congresswoman who was caught on camera assaulting ICE agents to be arrested for that?" Rojas asked Homan Wednesday. "If you assault an officer? Absolutely," Homan responded. "No one is above the law. These men and women put their lives on the line every day. We should be supporting them, not assaulting them." The mayor of Newark was detained when he and Democrat members of Congress tried to gain access to the detention center and were refused. Many on the right have demanded that the Democrats face criminal prosecution over the incident. "Especially at a facility carrying some of the worst of the worst," Homan continued. "You can't lose control of the facility. When you cause something there, it causes the safety and security of the facility to fail, and that's not what we want." "Don't cross it to criminal activity. I mean, I love protesters. But don't cross the line. I said from day one, you can not support ICE. You can support sanctuary cities. Shame on you, but you have that right," he continued. "But don't cross that line, or we will ask for criminal prosecution," Homan concluded. Earlier on Wednesday, Rosas also confronted New Jersey Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver, who was caught on video apparently assaulting an ICE agent, in the halls of Congress. She refused to answer his questions and hid behind her aides. Democrats have argued that members of Congress are legally allowed unannounced access to federal facilities as a part of the oversight power of the legislative branch. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) forcefully rejected any suggestion that the Democrats involved in the detention center protest should be arrested. “We’re not going to be intimidated by their tactics to try to force principled opposition from not standing up to their extremism,” said Jeffries to reporters on Tuesday. "No one’s intimidated by this dude — no one," Jeffries said about the president. "It's a red line.
