Trump’s Saudi Triumph

Tuesday was a huge day for President Trump in Saudi Arabia. President Trump has a warm relationship with Saudi Arabia in a way that Joe Biden did not. If you recall, Joe Biden really tried to alienate the Saudis. He came into office ripping on Saudi leader Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), ripping on the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, putting pressure on Saudi Arabia not to fight the Houthis in Yemen, and putting pressure on Saudi Arabia concerning democracy and human rights while ignoring American interests in the Middle East and trying to be buddy-buddy with Iran.  Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who had the same foreign policy vision, made a bunch of big mistakes in the Middle East, particularly with nations like Saudi Arabia. First, they kept saying words such as “democracy” and “human rights,” and those would trump America’s interests. Joe Biden went out of his way during the 2020 campaign to talk about the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, the Muslim Brotherhood media member who was murdered by the Saudi regime in a Turkish embassy. He made this a major focus of his foreign policy. But the reality is that the Middle East is a place filled with terrible regimes. The only truly democratic regime in the entire Middle East is Israel. Everywhere else, there’s a tyrannical dictatorship. The question is whether those tyrannical dictatorships are going to move in the direction of the West toward a gradual accommodation with modernity, or whether those tyrannical regimes are going to oppose the United States wholesale. Again, Obama and Biden kept pretending that words like “democracy” and “human rights” trumped American interests. That’s how we got the Obama-era idea of an Arab Spring, that you needed “democracy in the Middle East,” which was going to fix everything, but it resulted in the Muslim Brotherhood initially gaining power in Egypt and the rise of terror groups all over the region, as well as the complete collapse of Libya.  It turns out the Arab Spring was actually an Arab Winter.  And then powerful people took over in these places and had to quash all the Muslim Brotherhood-led rebellions in a wide variety of these countries. Less democracy and fewer human rights were the result of the Obama/Biden matrix. The second thing that Obama and Biden did was create daylight with our actual allies in the Middle East in favor of our enemies, like Iran. Obama and Biden made numerous overtures to Iran while pushing our actual allies in the region off into the corner. Thirdly, the Obama/Biden matrix took at face value the idea that for any progress on anything to happen in the Middle East, Israel had to make all sorts of concessions to the Palestinians. But President Trump, in his first term, took a different view. He said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was unsolvable, that the Palestinians didn’t want peace with the Israelis. He felt there could be commerce and cooperation between Israel and its neighbors outside of that particular issue.  That is still something that President Trump deeply believes. We should recognize that democracy in the West took a couple of thousand years to take root in places like Great Britain, which we consider the great Western democracy. The powers of Parliament were not fully effectuated until, at the very least, the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Before that, there were hundreds of years of monarchy and oligarchy in Great Britain.  The same is going to hold true in the Middle East, particularly because the Judeo-Christian West and the Biblical values upon which it relies have some strains of democracy. There’s nothing in the Koran that tends toward democracy. Thus, the idea of democracy will be a problem in many Islamic nations. What does that mean in terms of governance? It means that if you wish to do business with any of these places, if you wish to actually move these countries toward some level of modernization, democracy is not going to be the number one answer. If there were democracies overnight in Jordan, or the UAE, or Saudi Arabia, it’s likely that terrorist states could emerge. What President Trump also understands is that isolationism is not a real perspective in the Middle East.  There were a lot of people on the isolationist Right who championed what President Trump said in Saudi Arabia.  But let’s be clear: President Trump is not an isolationist. He’s never been an isolationist.  I’ll tell you what isolationists don’t do: sell $150 billion worth of military weaponry to the Saudis. They don’t fly to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to cut billions of dollars’ worth of business deals. You know what else isolationists don’t do? Try to broker accords between Syria and the Saudis and Qatar and the Turks, and Israel. None of that is isolationism. President Trump is not an isolationist, but he is also not a Wilsonian interventionist, what some people mistakenly refer to as a neocon. That’s a misnomer because the neocons were a specific group of people, liberals who were mugged by reality and then became very hawkish on foreign policy in the 1960s and 70s and turned against the welfare state.  Today, there are no neocons, and the number of Wilsonian interventionists who believe in “nation building” in Iraq or Afghanistan is singularly hard to find. Trump is not an isolationist and not a Wilsonian interventionist. He is a realist. A realist is someone who understands that different nations have different interests, they have different cultures, and there are different nations with different cultures that have to be negotiated with on their own level.  He stated, “In recent years, far too many American presidents have been afflicted with the notion that it’s our job to look into the souls of foreign leaders and use U.S. policy to dispense justice for their sins. I believe it is God’s job to sit in judgment, my job to defend America and to promote the fundamental interests of stability, prosperity, and peace.” “I will never hesitate to wield American power if it’s necessary to defend the United States, or to help defend our allies,” he also said. “If you threaten America or our partners, however, then you’ll be faced with overwhelming strength and devastating force. We have things that you don’t even know about.” President Trump is a realist. He wants to be involved where it is in the interests of the United States to be involved. He doesn’t want to dictate to the Saudis; he was there to get deals done. His biggest contribution is the idea that commerce trumps ideology. For that to happen, there have to be strings attached. And here is where things get a little bit complicated: Trump gave them an enormous number of benefits. The Saudis are spending an enormous amount of money in the United States or, at least, pledging to do so.  The question is whether enough strings are attached because just giving the Saudis (or the Syrians) benefits from the United States without strings attached in the hope that they will, through their own goodwill, do something nice and integrate further into the world system, seems to be a mistake.  You have to make this stuff conditional on them doing something that we want them to do. Trump said that he wants the Abraham Accords to happen. I wish that some of the stuff that he’s giving to the Saudis had been tied to the Abraham Accords, because if he’s going to broaden out his Nobel Peace Prize-worthy accomplishments in term one, using leverage is a better plan than simply giving people things and then hoping on the back end they’ll do the right thing.  Trump also said Gaza’s leadership has to go, meaning Hamas has to go. He slammed Iran, saying, “Our task is to unify against a few agents of chaos and terror that are left, and that are holding hostage the dreams of millions and millions of great people. The biggest and most destructive of these forces is the regime in Iran, which has caused unthinkable suffering in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, Yemen, and beyond.” All of that is correct. The bottom line is that this was a triumphant trip for President Trump. He ended up with the Saudis committing a bunch of money to the United States, as well as a warm relationship with the Saudi government. What I would love to see from President Trump — and the American administration more generally — is that if we are going to be doing these sorts of things with Saudi Arabia, or relieving sanctions on Syria, or making deals in the Middle East, make the strings attached. That’s what President Trump did in his first term. And it worked.

Republicans Take Big Step To Codify Trump’s Battle Against Gender Insanity

House Republicans took major step on Wednesday afternoon towards codifying President Donald Trump’s efforts to protect children from transgender procedures during a marathon markup session for the “one, big, beautiful bill” working its way through Congress. After a 26-hour budget hearing, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed a provision from Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) that would block federal dollars funding transgender procedures. This means that Medicaid, Affordable Care Act, and Children’s Health Insurance Program money will no longer be allowed to fund procedures like removing the breasts of girls who identify as boys or putting children on cross-sex hormones, if the provision makes it through the rest of the reconciliation process. The provision was included in the committee’s portion of the Trump-backed budget bill. In a video shared with The Daily Wire, Crenshaw said he believed that ultimately his proposal would become law. “I think it will pass the House, I think it will pass the Senate. I think President Trump will sign it into law. Keep in mind, President Trump has already done an executive action on this, but it needs to be codified for it to really take effect. This is a huge win,” he said. “You got to protect these kids, the science is clear at this point.” Dan Crenshaw just made sure a ban on federal funding for any transgender procedure on kids is in the House budget bill. Here’s what he had to say—after 26 hours of debate with Democrats: pic.twitter.com/Yi4aP7heCs — Daily Wire (@realDailyWire) May 14, 2025 He added that it was “interesting” that Democrats did not introduce any amendments to block his provision while they did for every other GOP-backed proposal. “They know it’s a losing issue, they know we won this issue. They know to stay away from it. Stay away from kids. Stop doing pseudo-science, scientific experiments on children who would be better off in therapy. We’re winning.” Crenshaw introduced his provision at around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, roughly 25 hours after the committee began its meeting at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. “This will become law and I couldn’t be happier about it,” Crenshaw said. “Gender transition procedures are the lobotomy of our generation. People will look back on this period, I think with disbelief, I guarantee it. ‘Gender-affirming care’ isn’t healthcare, it’s fringe science with no proven benefit and enormous risks.” Democrat Rep. Nanette Díaz Barragán (CA) referred to Crenshaw’s comments as “gibberish” and attacked Republicans over provisions meant to reform Medicaid. Crenshaw proposed a similar bill in January. Now, the proposal from the House Energy Committee will go to the House Budget Committee, which will then combine each of the House committee’s budget proposals into one piece of legislation that will then go to the full House for a vote. The Texas Republican’s provision was part of the House Energy Committee’s commitment to identify $880 billion in spending cuts. Another proposal from Crenshaw was an 80-hour-per-month work, training, or volunteer requirement for able-bodied, working-age adults without dependents to get Medicaid. Exceptions for seniors, pregnant women, caregivers, students, and those with disabilities were given. If Crenshaw’s transgender procedures proposal makes it across the finish line, it would cement in law President Donald Trump’s executive order on “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.” Trump directed his cabinet to ensure that no federal dollars were going toward hospitals or institutions that promote or perform transgender procedures on children. Trump’s executive order called for Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to look at ways to “take all appropriate actions to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children” including by examining Medicaid funding. The Department of Health and Human Services released a report earlier this month documenting the risks of transgender procedures for children, including infertility, sexual dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease. In the other chamber, Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) is pushing for his “No Subsidies for Gender Transition Procedures Act,” which would prohibit federal dollars from funding any transgender medical procedure, to be included in the reconciliation process.

Rejected By His Own Party, Democrat Backs Down On Forcing Trump Impeachment Vote

With members of his own party speaking out against his effort, the Democrat angling to compel the GOP-led House into taking action on seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump got cold feet. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), who had been facing bipartisan opposition and likely would have seen his resolution tabled, announced on X that he would not be forcing a vote on Wednesday after speaking with his colleagues. “Instead, I will add to my articles of impeachment and continue to rally the support of both Democrats and Republicans to defend the Constitution with me,” Thanedar said. Thanedar asserted that Trump’s controversial plan to accept a roughly $400 million luxury aircraft known as the “Flying Palace” from Qatar was among the new impeachable offenses that Trump has committed. In the fifteen days since I filed seven articles of impeachment against President Trump, he has committed more impeachable offenses, most dangerously, accepting a $400 million private jet from Qatar, which even Republican Members of Congress have called wrong. So, after talking… — Congressman Shri Thanedar (@RepShriThanedar) May 14, 2025 He added: “This is not about any one person or party; it is about defending America, our Constitution, and Rule of Law. I will continue to pursue all avenues to put this President on notice and hold him accountable for his many impeachable crimes.” The House had been expected to vote on his resolution within the hour. Unveiled last month, Thanedar’s impeachment resolution accused Trump of committing various “high crimes and misdemeanors” over alleged constitutional violations related to taxpayer funds, deportations, tariffs, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), retaliation against the press, and more. Thanedar gave notice on Tuesday that he would invoke privilege, a move that would push House GOP leadership to act on his impeachment resolution within two legislative days. However, Axios reported that Democrats privately criticized Thanedar as being a “dumbs***” and “utterly selfish” for pressing ahead with impeachment. The outlet also disclosed how Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) received applause from colleagues during a meeting after he cast the impeachment effort as “idiotic” and “horrible.” Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA) even told fellow Democrats they would vote to table the resolution ahead of time, according to Punchbowl News. Thanedar, a 70-year-old Indian immigrant serving his second term in the House, is facing primary challenges. The incumbent moved to force the House to act on impeachment following Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), a member of the leftist “Squad,” declaring that she backed one of his rivals. When he introduced his impeachment articles in April, Thanedar insisted that his effort was “not about partisanship,” but rather “protecting our democracy and ensuring that no one, not even a President, is above the law.” In his first term, Trump was impeached twice while the Democrats commanded the House. One inquiry dealt with Ukraine, and the other with January 6. Both efforts ended in acquittal by a GOP-led Senate. Rep. Al Green (D-TX) announced in February that he would seek to impeach Trump for “dastardly deeds,” but he has not forced a vote. Trump fired back at the Democrats after Thanedar revealed his impeachment articles. “The Democrats are really out of control. They have lost everything, especially their minds! These Radical Left Lunatics are into the ‘Impeachment thing’ again,” Trump said on X. “They have already got two ‘No Name,’ little respected Congressmen, total Whackjobs both, throwing the ‘Impeachment’ of DONALD J. TRUMP around, for about the 20th time, even though they have no idea for what I would be Impeached.” Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) released a statement criticizing Democrats on the latest impeachment bid before Thanedar backed off. “House Democrats have demonstrated once again they are willing to abuse the Constitution in their effort to impede the agenda of the American people. Their latest sham impeachment charade against President Trump is another embarrassing political stunt. Today, House Republicans will move promptly to discard it,” Johnson said. “While Democrats are throwing fits, impeding law enforcement, playing political games, and demonstrating how far out of touch they are — Republicans are working to deliver lower taxes for families, restore American energy dominance, strengthen border security, restore peace through strength, and make government work more efficiently and effectively,” the speaker added. “The contrast has never been more clear.”

Illegal Immigrant Teen Gets Off Easy After Killing Colorado Woman In High-Speed Crash

A 15-year-old illegal immigrant in Aurora, Colorado, received probation and community service as part of a plea deal with prosecutors after he killed 24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver last July by plowing a Jeep into the side of her vehicle. After initially promising to pursue the maximum sentence of two years in a correctional facility for the illegal immigrant, Weaver’s father, John Weaver, said that the Arapahoe District Attorney’s Office changed course after different leadership took over a few months later, CBS News Colorado reported. “The DA’s office said this would be a ‘no plea deal’ case, so they were not going to offer anything; any concession,” Weaver said. Kaitlyn, who worked at a drug rehab center in Aurora, was driving home and talking over speaker phone with her boyfriend when the illegal immigrant teenager slammed into the side of her car, driving around 90 mph in a residential area, according to authorities. Footage from a Ring doorbell camera captured the crash, showing the illegal immigrant’s jeep speeding down the road before the massive collision. Kaitlyn was “effectively killed instantly,” her father said. John Weaver and his wife Michelle made the decision to remove Kaitlyn from life support two days later. The juvenile also had other minors in his vehicle when he crashed into the 24-year-old woman. The Jeep, which the teenager was driving illegally, was uninsured, and his mother said that he took it without her permission. The teen was charged with vehicular homicide. Under the new Democratic District Attorney, Amy Padden, the illegal immigrant was offered two years of probation if he pleaded guilty, according to Weaver. Arapahoe County Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley said the plea deal was handled by an experienced prosecutor and was not influenced by the new district attorney. The deal was upheld by a judge after hearing from the Weaver family, Brackley added. “Why the change? If he had taken a firearm and recklessly just shot it and killed someone, this would be a different case. They would be pushing it completely differently,” Weaver said. “There’s no deterrence.” “Immigration and the criminal justice system and all these things landed together one day in Aurora, and now I sit here today without a daughter,” Weaver added. Brackley defended the plea deal, saying that before any plea deal is negotiated prosecutors consider “the impact on the victims and the community,” “the characteristics of the defendant such as age, culpability, and level of remorse,” and the “goals of sentencing, including deterrence, rehabilitating the offender, treating similarly situated offenders equitably, and holding each offender accountable.” “The negotiated sentence acknowledges the seriousness of this preventable tragedy,” the assistant district attorney stated.

A Popular Bank Closing Multiple Branches—Here’s How It Will Affect Customers

The days of stepping into a physical bank building for day-to-day transactions are all but over. Advanced technology makes it simple to handle financial business online from a computer or with an app on our phones. It certainly makes life convenient for the consumer, but what does that mean for the banking industry as a whole? Many institutions will close brick-and-mortar locations in the future to save on overhead. Among those making the move is Spanish bank Santander. They operate 18 locations in the Northeast United States that will close by August 2025, Banking Dive reports. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Santander Bank US (@santanderbankus) Santander Bank Operates 400 Locations In the United States Branches in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island will close by August. “Santander Bank continues to refine its branch footprint and retail presence, including introducing new formats and investing in digital capabilities to better accommodate our customers and meet their evolving needs,” a spokesperson told Banking Dive. Santander Bank operates 400 locations in the United States. The closers affect roughly 4.5% of the banks’ presence in America. The company opened its digital bank, Openbank, in October 2024 and seems to be successful. According to a release from Santander Bank, Openbank hit $2 million in total deposits in February. “Our aim is to become a national, digital bank with branches and reaching this deposit milestone at record pace is a testament to our customer-obsessed mindset, commitment to innovation, and global connectivity,” Swati Bhatia, head of retail banking at Santander Bank shared in a statement. “We are uniquely positioned to provide U.S. consumers with the digital banking experience of a FinTech and the strength and stability of a leading global bank.” This story’s featured image can be found here. Michael Jordan is Heading Back To The Sports World

Many will argue that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. He played 15 seasons in the NBA and won six championships with the Chicago Bulls. His ability to effortlessly glide through the air and slam a ball through a net earned him the nickname “Air Jordan.” This led to a line of sneakers that helped make him a billionaire. Michael stepped away from the game more than 20 years ago, but plans to come back for the 2025-2026 season in a big way. “I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,” Michael Jordan announced in a video message. “The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.” A legendary addition to our team! We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the NBA on NBC and Peacock. pic.twitter.com/Pjsq8tokfi— NBA on NBC and Peacock (@NBAonNBC) May 12, 2025 Michael Jordan Returns As The NBA Makes A Comeback On NBC According to Today, the NBA will return to NBC after 23 years, and Michael Jordan will be with them. NBC shared a video of Michael on X with the caption, “A legendary addition to our team! We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the NBA on NBC and Peacock.” He famously keeps a low profile, so the news of Michael Jordan’s return to the NBA excited plenty of fans. “The money must be CRAZY to get this man out of hiding,” one wrote. He’s probably just there to remind everyone he’s still the GOAT while sipping a drink with a smug smile. You know he’ll drop a ‘I’d do this job, but I’m too busy winning championships’ in the first 5 minutes,” a fan joked. This person can’t wait to see what Michael Jordan has to say. “Well, this is more than exciting. How long has it been since we’ve heard from MJ? The Last Dance? I’m super stoked for this.” This story’s featured image is by Don Juan Moore/Getty Images. The post Michael Jordan is Heading Back To The Sports World appeared first on InspireMore.
