South Carolina Democrat Says Video Of Narcotic-Induced Tirade Shows Why He Should Be Governor

A South Carolina Democrat is facing calls to withdraw from the governor’s race after a video surfaced showing him screaming obscenities at police officers during a narcotics episode. Dashcam footage shows William McLeod swearing and yelling at officers for nearly 20 minutes in the back of the cop car, calling himself “god” and “superman,” and using the n-word twice. The video circulated online after it was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, according to the New York Post. McLeod is currently the only Democratic runner for the 2026 South Carolina gubernatorial race. The prominent Charleston lawyer ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2010 and has served two terms as the Charleston County Democratic Party Chairman. His party has requested that he withdraw from the race. “After reviewing the transcript of the dash cam footage from his recent arrest, it is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges and should focus on his mental and emotional well-being instead of a campaign for governor,” the chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, Christale Spain, said in a statement Wednesday. “We offer him compassion and pray he finds the support he needs.” But McLeod has shown no intent of backing down. His campaign team labeled the arrest “unlawful.” McLeod himself has touted the incident as a reason why he should be elected. “When they learn what happened around my unlawful arrest, it will be a reason why I absolutely need to be our state’s governor,” he said. He did not elaborate as to why. McLeod was arrested on May 15 after he was found “yelling at the top of his lungs” while walking near the Battery in Charleston in only his underwear and shoes. McLeod’s eyes were “extremely bloodshot and highly dilated … typical of an individual under the influence of a stimulant narcotic,” a preliminary incident report obtained by WCBD said. When an officer asked for his name, McLeod replied, “It doesn’t matter, my friend, trust me. I’m one of the most just humans to ever walk this soil.” “Superman works,” he added. He also launched a tirade against one of his Republican opponents, Alan Wilson, the current Attorney General of South Carolina. “I will kick your teeth in … I’m going to kick every one of them in. If I do kick them in, you don’t know any dentist.” He also seemingly threatened to kidnap Wilson’s German Shepherd: “When I’m governor, Snoop is coming with me,” he said. It is unclear where the name Snoop came from. Wilson has a German Shepherd named Lucy. McLeod refused to get out of the car when they arrived at the police station, saying he would sleep in the backseat. “No, I’m not doing it, no. I’m not getting out of this car. It’s time to go to bed.” He was forcibly removed and booked into jail around 1 a.m. He currently faces misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct. He claimed that he had been exercising his “God-given, constitutional right to be in a public place” when he was arrested. “The only thing I’d ask the voters is to please give me a little bit of grace and know that long before we go to Election Day, they’ll know exactly what happened,” he told the Post and Courier. Wilson responded to McLeod’s threats in a statement on Wednesday, saying, “I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he means in a general election, not a street fight,” Wilson said. He preferred to focus on his campaign rather than on McLeod’s remarks: “My plan for bold, conservative leadership is spreading, and my record of defending President Trump, parental rights, and the rule of law has put a target on my back. But we’re not slowing down, and I’m not done fighting for South Carolina families.”

GOP Proposal Gives Trump Authority To Extend D.C. Police Takeover

President Donald Trump’s takeover of police in Washington, D.C., to fight crime in the nation’s capital may extend beyond a month if Congress passes a measure unveiled this week by a House Republican. The “Capital Emergency Control Act of 2025,” which Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) revealed on Wednesday, would do away with the 30-day limit that is written in Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act. “President Trump has rightly declared a national emergency in Washington, D.C. — a city its own government has surrendered to chaos. Under current law, the President can only federalize D.C. for thirty days,” Ogles said in a post on X. “I’m introducing a resolution to amend the D.C. Home Rule Act so the President can extend this emergency as long as it takes, until our Capitol is taken back and its streets are safe. Congress must defend the President, and our Country.” On Monday, Trump invoked Section 740, which allowed him to direct the D.C. mayor to deliver him control of the Metropolitan Police Department. The president then notified Congress of his intention to keep the emergency he invoked until it is no longer needed or reaches the “maximum period” allowed. As it stands, Section 740 says anything beyond 30 days would require Congress to pass a joint resolution that authorizes the extension. The measure from Ogles would get rid of the time restraint provision and give the president room to hold onto control of D.C. police for additional periods of up to 30 days — if relevant committees are informed and provided a reason for why the emergency situation persists at each interval. Language that says lawmakers could vote for a joint resolution that ends the authority remains intact. End of Summer Sale – Get 40% off New DailyWire+ Annual Memberships Federal officials announced dozens of arrests have been made since Trump’s D.C. police takeover began. Top Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), have expressed approval of the operation. Meanwhile, Democrats assailed the move and plan to push legislation that would give nation’s capital “full control” of its police force, as well as the D.C. National Guard, which the president deployed along with agents from various federal law enforcement organizations to help with the crackdown on crime. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) issued a statement on Thursday criticizing the resolution from Ogles that could prolong the takeover. “D.C. pays more federal taxes per capita than any state and more federal taxes overall than 19 states, while being denied the same voting representation in Congress or full local self-government accorded to residents of the 50 states,” Norton said in a statement. “I will do everything in my power to block this bill’s progress and passage and prevent D.C. from suffering additional indignities at the hands of the federal government.” Earlier this year, Ogles introduced a bill called the “Bringing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident Act” or the “BOWSER Act,” a nod to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. If passed, the legislation would repeal the Home Rule Act, which beyond Section 740 allows the district a limited amount of self-governance. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced the same measure in the upper chamber. “The radically progressive regime of D.C. Mayor Bowser has left our nation’s Capital in crime-ridden shambles. Washington is now known for its homicides, rapes, drug overdoses, violence, theft, and homelessness. Bowser and her corrupt Washington City Council are incapable of managing the city,” Ogles said in a February statement. He continued, “As such, it seems appropriate for Congress to reclaim its Constitutional authority and restore the nation’s Capital. The epicenter of not only the United States Federal Government but also the world geopolitics cannot continue to be a cesspool of Democrats’ failed policies. That’s why I’ve introduced the Bringing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident (BOWSER) Act, which would repeal the D.C. Home Rule Act. I am grateful to Senator Lee for his willingness to lead this critical legislation in the Senate.”

GOP Senators Push For Probe Into Meta’s AI Chatbot Engaging In ‘Sensual’ Discussions With Children

Two Republican U.S. senators called for a congressional investigation into Meta Platforms on Thursday after Reuters exclusively reported on an internal policy document that permitted the company’s chatbots to “engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual.” Meta confirmed the document’s authenticity, but said that after receiving questions earlier this month from Reuters, the company removed portions that stated it is permissible for chatbots to flirt and engage in romantic roleplay with children. The standards described in the Meta document don’t necessarily reflect “ideal or even preferable” generative AI outputs, the document states. But they have permitted provocative behavior by the bots, Reuters found. In one example, the document notes that it would be acceptable for a bot to tell a shirtless eight-year-old that “every inch of you is a masterpiece – a treasure I cherish deeply.” “So, only after Meta got CAUGHT did it retract portions of its company doc,” Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, said in a post on social media site X. “This is grounds for an immediate congressional investigation,” Hawley said. A spokesperson for Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, said she supports an investigation into the social media company. A spokesperson for Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters. Blackburn also added that the report illustrates the need to pass reforms to better protect children online, such as the Kids Online Safety Act, a bill she co-sponsored that the Senate passed last year but which failed in the U.S. House of Representatives. “When it comes to protecting precious children online, Meta has failed miserably by every possible measure. Even worse, the company has turned a blind eye to the devastating consequences of how its platforms are designed,” Blackburn said. The Kids Online Safety Act would make explicit a “duty of care” that social media companies have when it comes to minors using their products, focusing on the design of the platforms and the regulation of the companies. Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, called the policies “deeply disturbing and wrong,” adding that Section 230, a law that shields internet companies from liability for the content posted to their platforms, should not protect companies’ generative AI chatbots. “Meta and Zuckerberg should be held fully responsible for any harm these bots cause,” he said. Senator Peter Welch, a Democrat of Vermont, said the report “shows how critical safeguards are for AI — especially when the health and safety of kids is at risk.” The Senate voted 99-1 in July to remove a provision in President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax-cut and spending bill that would have effectively barred states from passing AI regulation. In the absence of federal laws regulating AI, states have passed legislation, including bans on using the technology to create child sexual abuse material.
