The FBI needs to take action to protect the American public from this growing threat of violent attacks inspired by transgender ideology, a brief from the Oversight Project says.  The investigative group argues that attacks inspired by transgender ideology should be designated as domestic terrorism so federal law enforcement can more effectively counteract the threats. This designation would allow the FBI to utilize “sophisticated investigative technique[s]” to prevent future transgender-inspired attacks, the brief says.  “The United States has seen a recurring pattern of extreme violence committed by perpetrators that appear to have been acting in furtherance of a radical transgender ideology,” the Oversight Project writes.  “The statements made by the perpetrators and their supporters show that individuals that espouse to this ideology use violence as a means to intimidate Christians and other groups in their exercise of 1st Amendment-protected speech and religious practice, coerce the population into believing there is more than two genders, and silence Americans that do not espouse to their ideology,” they add.  Recent months have seen at least two major attacks that appear to be tied to transgender ideology, including the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk and the August attack on a Minneapolis Catholic school by a transgender-identifying man. In light of these attacks, the Oversight Project said that a new “Domestic Terrorism Threat Category” called Transgender Ideology-Inspired Violent Extremism (TIVE) should be created.  The Transgender Ideology-Inspired Violent Extremism (TIVE) category would apply to those who believe that opposition to transgender ideology is a threat to the right to exist of transgender-identifying individuals, that this fear justifies violence, and that violent action should be taken or promoted based on this belief.  The designation would allow for the deployment of more human resources, undercover operations, and database searches to prevent future transgender-inspired violence.  “TIVE violence has particularly focused upon Christian institutions and individuals that the TIVEs believe subscribe to paradigms that are in contradiction to and inherently irreconcilable with transgender ideology,” the brief said.  This category would join others currently used by the FBI, including racial extremism, anti-government extremism, and abortion extremism.  Over the past few years, transgender-identifying shooters have attacked two Christian schools, leaving behind writings demonstrating their hatred of Christianity. In March 2023, a transgender-identifying woman attacked the Covenant School in Nashville, murdering three students and three adults. Last month, a transgender-identifying man attacked the Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, leaving two children dead and many more injured. Kirk’s assassination also appears to have been motivated in part by his opposition to transgender ideology.  Tyler Robinson, the suspected assassin of Kirk, wrote in a text message to his transgender-identifying boyfriend that he “had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out,” according to text messages released by the FBI.  Additionally, as The Daily Wire reported last week, the man who attempted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh identifies as a woman, according to court documents. That attempt was motivated by the leak of a draft Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.  The Oversight Project notes that TIVE adherents are often steeped in far-left online communities where violence is encouraged.  “This digital infrastructure provides anonymous networks for grooming and coordinating, turning isolated resentment into organized threats, exemplified by the radicalization of figures like Tyler Robinson, who allegedly assassinated Charlie Kirk over views on transgender issues after immersion in leftist online forums,” they wrote.  Recent reporting shows that the Trump administration shares similar concerns with the Oversight Project about the rise of transgender-inspired violence. The Daily Wire reported earlier this month that there have been low-level discussions at the Justice Department about a potential ban on transgender-identifying individuals owning guns.  On Sunday, President Donald Trump told The Daily Wire his administration was “very strongly” looking at the problem of transgender violence.  “You know, we’re looking at that,” he responded. “But we’re looking at it very strongly. Something seems to be going on.”

President Donald Trump voiced his displeasure with former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday, telling reporters that Comey was a “sick person” who had done “terrible things at the FBI.” Trump’s remarks, made from the Oval Office alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, come just hours after news broke that Comey was likely to be indicted in the coming days in relation to his Capitol Hill testimony on his role in investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. I have no idea what’s going to happen.” News of a potential indictment was reported on Wednesday, and MSNBC investigative correspondent Carol Leonnig explained that the reason Justice Department officials were moving ahead was that the statute of limitations was about to run out on the alleged crimes they intended to use to charge him. “They are arguing that Comey — there is evidence to suggest Comey lied to Congress in his testimony on the Hill in September of 2020,” Leonnig explained. “And for viewers out in the audience who may not be legally as nerdy as me and Ken, I’ll just say that there’s a statute of limitations to charge people with the charge of lying to Congress or perjury, and that’s five years. The five-year statute runs [out] this month.”

KMD Brands, the parent company of the popular surf brand Rip Curl, posted an $82.9 million loss and will close 21 retail locations, per a report from The Daily Mail. Rip Curl generated $30.6 million in total revenue in FY25 before taxes, representing a 27% decrease in earnings from the previous year.  This financial update follows the end of Rip Curl’s longtime partnership with pro surfer Bethany Hamilton and the release of a promotional clip featuring a transgender-identifying male, which led to boycotts. The Australia-based KMD said on Wednesday that it had recently restructured its business in a move designed to save $5 million annually. The results for 2024-25 are significantly worse than those of the previous year, when the company posted a $48.3 million loss, according to 1 News in New Zealand. The outlet noted that the company has not been profitable since the 2014-15 fiscal year. There is no explicit connection between the company’s poor financial performance and its push for transgender inclusion, but social media users have been pointing to the results as proof of the popular adage, “go woke, go broke.” In January 2024, the international brand released a documentary ad featuring Sasha Jane Lowerson, a male competing in the women’s category for professional surfing, as part of its “Summer Looks Good on You” campaign. Lowerson previously competed in the men’s surfing division under the name Ryan Egan until he began his “gender transition” in 2021. The video received massive backlash, prompting Rip Curl Women to pull the ad just days later.  “Our recent post has landed us in the divisive space around transgender participation in competitive sport. We want to promote surfing for everyone in a respectful way but … we upset a lot of people with our post and for that, we are sorry … The surfer featured has not replaced anyone on the Rip Curl team and is not a sponsored athlete,” the company said in a statement at the time. Meanwhile, Hamilton, an outspoken Christian and critic of males competing in women’s sports, reacted to the promo by posting on X, “Male-bodied athletes should not be competing in female sports. Period.” Hamilton is best known for losing her arm in a shark attack while surfing when she was 13 years old. But instead of letting the accident quell her love for the sport, she went on to compete into adulthood. Her incredible story was turned into both a book and the movie “Soul Surfer.”  The pro surfer had previously come out against the World Surf League in 2023 when it adopted the International Surfing Association (ISA) policy on transgender participation in the sport.  “This concerns me as a professional athlete that has been competing in the World Surf League events for the past 15-plus years,” Hamilton said at the time.  “I think many of the girls currently on tour are not in support with this new rule and they fear being ostracized if they speak up,” she went on. “We are seeing glimpses of male-bodied dominance in women’s sports like running, swimming, and others. I personally won’t be competing in, or supporting, the World Surf League if this rule remains.” It’s unclear who initiated the break in sponsorship between Hamilton and Rip Curl, but there’s no denying that the two were at odds when it came to transgender activism. In October 2023, followers noticed that Hamilton’s surfboard, which was always covered in Rip Curl decals, had been stripped bare.  Hamilton is now sponsored by PublicSquare, an online marketplace that shares her values. While the exact situation between Hamilton and Rip Curl was never publicly addressed, social media was not kind to the surf brand after it was revealed that it had endorsed males competing in women’s sports. “Imagine, dropping a phenomenal professional surfer, who survived a shark biting her arm off, only to replace her with a man who pretends to be a woman. WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump suggested the U.S. could lift sanctions on Turkey and allow it to buy U.S. F-35 jets as he kicked off talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday, but said he wanted Ankara to stop purchases of Russian oil. Erdogan’s first visit to the White House in about six years started off with a warm welcome from Trump. Seated side by side in the Oval Office, Trump called Erdogan a “very tough man” and said they remained “friends” while his predecessor Joe Biden was in office. Ankara is keen to leverage the friendly personal relationship to further national interests and benefit from a U.S. administration eager to make deals in return for big-ticket arms and trade agreements. Still, Trump pressed Erdogan to cut off oil purchases from Russia, as he tries to put pressure on Russia’s sources for funding its war in Ukraine. Turkey, Hungary, and Slovakia are the main European purchasers of Russian oil. “I’d like to have him stop buying any oil from Russia while Russia continues this rampage against Ukraine,” Trump said of Erdogan. Asked whether he was willing to make a deal to sell F-35s to Turkey, Trump told reporters, “I think he’ll be successful in buying the things that he wants to buy. “Trump also said he could lift sanctions against Turkey “very soon,” and that “if we have a good meeting, almost immediately.” The Biden administration had kept Turkey at arm’s length partly over what it saw as the fellow NATO member’s close ties with Russia. Under Trump, who has closer personal ties with Erdogan, Ankara is hoping for a better relationship. Trump and Erdogan had a checkered relationship during the Republican president’s first term. But since his return to the White House, their interests have aligned on Syria – source of the biggest bilateral strain in the past – where the U.S. and Turkey now both strongly back the central government. The mood shift has renewed Turkish hopes that Trump and Erdogan, who have exchanged mutual praise, can find a way around U.S. sanctions imposed by Trump himself in 2020 over Turkey’s acquisition of Russian S-400 missile defenses. That, in turn, could pave the way for Ankara to buy Lockheed Martin’s advanced F-35 fighter jets, for which it was both a buyer and manufacturer until it was barred over the S-400s. Erdogan has said the defense industry, including the topic of F-35s and ongoing negotiations over 40 F-16 jets Ankara also wants, would be a focus of the meeting, along with regional wars, energy, and trade. Turkey, NATO’s second-largest army, wants to ramp up air power to counter what it sees as growing threats in the Middle East, Eastern Mediterranean, and the Black Sea, where it neighbours Russia and Ukraine. Erdogan also told reporters that he was “ready to do whatever is needed from us” to reopen an Orthodox Christian seminary that was shut by the Turkish state in 1971 and has remained a source of contention with Greece and the European Union ever since. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the spiritual head of Orthodox Christians worldwide based in Istanbul, also met with Trump in Washington this month and was quoted as saying he hopes the theological school on Heybeliada Island can accept students next year. Turkey, which is overwhelmingly Muslim, has in the past resisted reopening the seminary near Istanbul despite years of pressure from the European Union, which it aspires to join.
