The Trump administration has directed Justice Department prosecutors across the country to investigate whether George Soros’s grantmaking network has provided material support to terror groups.  Federal prosecutors were instructed to look into bringing charges of racketeering, arson, wire fraud, and material support for terrorism against Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF), according to a copy of a directive obtained by The New York Times. The organization has long been criticized by conservatives for financially backing left-wing causes. “Everything is on the table right now,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said Thursday when asked about the report.  The directive was issued to U.S. attorneys in California, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, and Maryland. “This DOJ, along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law,” Justice Department spokesman Chad Gilmartin told the Times.  The directive cites a report from the Capital Research Center, a conservative watchdog group, which says that OSF has given more than $80 million to “groups tied to terrorism or extremist violence.” That report said that OSF funded groups that “trained activists in property destruction and sabotage during the 2020 riots,” backed the violent Stop Cop City campaign in Atlanta, and instructed “activists in the use of false IDs, blockades, and economic disruption” to protest Israel.  In a statement, OSF said that the investigation was a “politically motivated” attack on “civil society.”  “The Open Society Foundations unequivocally condemn terrorism and do not fund terrorism. Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law,” the group said.  Calls to investigate and crack down on leftwing violence have increased after the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller said that the administration would go after organizations like the Open Society Foundations that he accused of facilitating violence.  Last month, President Donald Trump called for Soros to be prosecuted, claiming the Hungarian-born New York billionaire and his son, Alex, backed violent protests across the country.  “George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “That includes his Crazy, West Coast friends. Be careful, we’re watching you!”

In recent weeks, the American people have witnessed a troubling rise in violent crime, coordinated attacks on public safety, and brazen assaults on the rule of law. These are not isolated incidents — they are the natural outgrowth of a radical ideology that seeks to undermine our institutions, erase our borders, and excuse lawlessness in the name of politics. At the forefront of defending our nation against open borders is Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an agency too often demonized by the Left but indispensable to the safety and security of the American people. The House Freedom Caucus stands unequivocally with the men and women of ICE. These officers are on the front lines every day — tracking down human traffickers, dismantling drug cartels, and removing violent offenders from our communities. While the radical Left caricatures ICE as unjust, ordinary Americans know the truth: ICE agents are often the last line of defense protecting law-abiding citizens from predators who exploit our once-porous border and weak enforcement policies. The contrast could not be clearer: while the Left’s radical ideology excuses lawlessness and undermines those sworn to protect us, the Freedom Caucus stands firmly with ICE, law enforcement, and the American people. ICE officers put their lives on the line daily. They deserve the support of Congress and the full weight of the federal government behind them, and they deserve a country willing to reject radical ideologies that put criminals ahead of citizens. The path forward is simple: support ICE, enforce the law, and reject the destructive agenda that fuels lawlessness. The Freedom Caucus is proud to lead that fight.
