Amazon Memorial Day Sale: Best Deals for Preppers

Amazon is launching the Memorial Day Sale early this year to give more opportunities to save. I found several deals that seem quite worthwhile, though many others were disappointing. It would really help the website out a lot if you use this link to visit the sale: https://amzn.to/3SHCwjX It costs you nothing extra, but The OP gets a small commission on any of your purchases. Now, on to what I’ve found. Remember, some of these deals are time sensitive or are only while supplies last. At the time of publication, all items were available at the sale prices. Raised garden bed Check out this galvanized metal raised garden bed – you can save 43% while the deal is going on. Solar generator The Bluetti 1000W solar generator is high quality and very well reviewed. You can save 45% on this portable genny and it works well for household items, recharging devices, and other small electronic needs. Cooling down I live for cooling towels in the summer. I absolutely despise being hot and these towels are a great way to cool off – you just get them wet, snap them, and apply them for an instant refresh. Here’s a fantastic deal for a 4-pack. I keep them in my trunk, with my gardening tools, and another set with my summer power outage gear. Another great cool-down option is a portable, rechargeable, battery-operated cooling fan. Handheld ham radio Check out this Baofeng handheld ham radio set. It’s a great way to get started with ham radio at an affordable price. Freeze-dried food Here are some steals of deals on freeze-dried, shelf-stable foods: Strawberries Apple slices Diced chicken Vegetable medley 30-Day Food Bucket Water filtration These water filtration devices are currently on sale. Lifestraw in a nice portable case 4-pack of straw-type water filters from a lesser-known brand Lifestraw-to-go stainless steel filtered water bottle (this costs a bit more, but I’ve had mine since 2019 and take it every time I travel to filter my tap water. It’s especially useful to take empty through the TSA and then fill with an airport water fountain instead of paying $7 for bottled water at the shops.) Headlamps My favorite power outage light source is the humble headlamp. They’re great for hands-free work, walking outdoors in the dark, or reading. Rechargeable headlamp set Battery-operated headlamp set What do you think? Have you found any good deals? Are the ones listed here still available? Help me keep this post up to date by adding to it in the comments section.   The post Amazon Memorial Day Sale: Best Deals for Preppers appeared first on The Organic Prepper.

Virginia Gov Candidate’s Claims of Being Moderate Don’t Match the Record

Virginia Gov Candidate’s Claims of Being Moderate Don’t Match the Record

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger is busy trying to portray herself as a moderate, but her policy record proves she’s far from that.  With a 5% lifetime score on the Heritage Action for America scorecard, Spanberger spent six years in Congress voting for policies like restricting economic freedom, weakening U.S. border security, and blocking voter ID bills. She also voted against religious freedom by rejecting a reasonable religious exemption in a pregnancy accommodations bill. Spanberger voted in lock step with President Joe Biden’s spending blowout, recklessly pouring money to political allies for “green energy” boondoggles and feeding the inflation that has left so many families struggling today.  Her congressional record score was so anti-freedom, it was half the 10% score of the average House Democrat.  Spanberger also voted to ensure that illegal immigrants are counted in the U.S. census, which would favor Democrats if legislative boundaries were ever redrawn. She is also raking in donations from leftist bigwigs like tech mogul Reid Hoffman, and she’s a darling of teachers unions—the biggest foes of school choice programs that offer a lifeline to children trapped in failing schools (who are disproportionately non-white, despite Spanberger’s party claiming to care for racial minorities).  Virginia parents can’t forget that during the COVID-19 era, she pushed to keep schools shuttered until all staffers got vaccinated, despite the fact that vaccinated people can still spread COVID-19. Virginia schools stayed remote, and then children were forced to wear masks long after the rest of the country had moved on, in part thanks to intransigent Democrat leaders like Spanberger, who prioritized special interest groups and political posturing over children’s clear interests. Poor and disadvantaged children are still struggling the most to recover from COVID-19-connected learning loss due to prolonged school closures. While still in Congress, Spanberger also voted against the Laken Riley Act, which enabled the Trump administration to take an MS-13 gang leader off the streets of Virginia. She capped off Women’s History Month by happily celebrating “Trans Visibility Day” and also voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, landing her a failed score on  Independent Women’s Voice’s Riley Gaines “Stand with Women Scorecard.”  Spanberger’s vote against keeping men out of women’s sports rejects biology, common sense, the Constitution, and overwhelming public opinion. Her position is problematic and undermines the Constitution, as case law under the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause recognizes inherent differences between men and women. Legal precedents recognize that to ensure equal protection under the law, men and women sometimes must be treated distinctly.  In my city of Arlington, Virginia, Washington and Liberty High School finally removed an individual with a sex crime history who claimed to be female and was repeatedly exposing himself to minors in the girls’ locker room while accessing the high school’s community pool that was open to the general public.  In Loudoun County, also in my home state of Virginia, a boy wearing a skirt exploited his school’s pro-transgender policies and sexually assaulted a girl in the bathroom. Tragically, due to lax school policies, he assaulted a second one. Why does Spanberger support these terrible policies? Why does she refuse to support women and instead favor misogyny in women’s prisons, shelters, bathrooms, and sports?  The good news is President Donald Trump this year preserved the Constitution through his executive orders recognizing only two sexes and keeping males out of female sports.  Our current governor, Glenn Youngkin, has brought unprecedented prosperity and stability to our commonwealth. Spanberger would bring just the opposite. We publish a variety of perspectives. Nothing written here is to be construed as representing the views of The Daily Signal. Carrie Sheffield is a senior policy analyst at Independent Women’s Voice and a resident of Arlington, Virginia.  The post Virginia Gov Candidate’s Claims of Being Moderate Don’t Match the Record appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Fiscal hawks send warning as 'big, beautiful bill' clears high-stakes vote: 'We have to do more to deliver'

The "big, beautiful bill" passed a key vote in the House Budget Committee Sunday night after five spending skeptics initially tanked the bill on Friday. Rather than derail reconciliation a second time, four Republicans voted "present" to advance the bill in a 17-16 vote on Sunday night. On Friday, Republican Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, and Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania all voted against the bill, resulting in a 16-21 vote. This time around, Roy, Norman, Clyde, and Brecheen voted "present" to advance the bill, while Smucker voted in favor of it. Notably, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also met with Norman, Clyde, and Brecheen Sunday morning before the vote.'This bill is a strong step forward. ... But we have to do more to deliver for the American people.'RELATED: The Republicans who could derail reconciliation Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). Photo by Tom Brenner for the Washington Post via Getty Images"Tonight, after a great deal of work and engagement over the weekend, the Budget Committee advanced a reconciliation bill that lays the foundation for much-needed tax relief, border security, and important spending reductions and reforms," Roy said in a statement. "Importantly, the bill now will move Medicaid work requirements forward and reduces the availability of future subsidies under the green new scam."Reforms to the Medicaid work requirements were initially set to take effect in 2029, which was not nearly aggressive enough for fiscal hawks like Roy. Johnson reportedly offered the holdouts a 2026 implementation date, which may have swayed many of the holdouts to allow the bill to advance. "But the bill does not yet meet the moment — leaving almost half of the green new scam subsidies continuing," Roy added. "More, it fails to end the Medicaid money laundering scam and perverse funding structure that provides seven times more federal dollars for each dollar of state spending for the able-bodied relative to the vulnerable.""This all ultimately increases the likelihood of continuing deficits and non-Obamacare-expansion states like Texas expanding in the future," Roy added. "We can and must do better before we pass the final product."RELATED: Vance tells Glenn Beck Congress needs to 'get serious' about codifying DOGE cuts Alex Wroblewski/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesThe bill can be amended only in the Rules Committee, which will hold its hearing on Wednesday at 1:00 a.m. House Republican leadership members have also said they will refrain from sending lawmakers home for Memorial Day, which was their original target. "As such, I joined with three of my colleagues to vote 'present' out of respect for the Republican Conference and the president to move the bill forward," Roy said. "It gives us the opportunity to work together this week to get the job done in light of the fact our bond rating was dropped yet again due to historic fiscal mismanagement by both parties." "This bill is a strong step forward — and I am proud of Chairman Arrington, the speaker, and my colleagues for the work we did to make progress with the White House," Roy added. "But we have to do more to deliver for the American people."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
