President Joe Biden said in an interview that aired this week that former President Barack Obama asked him to be his running mate in 2020, which was during the Trump administration. Biden made the remarks during an interview on Complex’s “360 With Speedy” that was taped late last week. Biden said, “But I didn’t plan on running because when I, in 2020, when I, my, when Barack asked me to be vice president, I, uh, I, I joined him, which was a great honor and, uh, but after that I became a professor at the University of Pennsylvania.” The 81-year-old was asked by Obama to be his vice president in 2008 and he served in the role for both terms and left office in January 2017. Biden has faced widespread calls to quit his presidential campaign amid obvious signs of serious cognitive decline and motor issues. Country music singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress said in a statement on Tuesday that she is checking herself into rehab after she was widely slammed over her disastrous rendition of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, on Monday night. “I’m not gonna bulls*** y’all, I was drunk last night,” she posted on social media. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. Virginia police officer Mervin Mayo made the “AGT” audience swoon when he sang a romantic cover of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud for his wife. Mervin took the stage during tonight’s (July 16) audition episode and melted the crowd and judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, and Sofía Vergara with his inspirational backstory. The officer has been with the force for 19 years and has dedicated his life to “working with at-risk youth” because he “was an at-risk youth.” “I grew up in a housing project in Richmond, Virginia,” he shared. “And there was a program called the Police Athletic League. An officer named Curtis Simmons kind of took me under his wing ’cause I was a little mischievous growing up, and he kept me safe.” “I’m alive today because he kept me out of it,” Mervin continued. “And I, I thank him for that ‘cause I tell people I’ve seen more murders as a child than I have as a police officer.”  The Police Officer’s Wife Was “The Reason” He Auditioned For “AGT” Along with his passion for serving, Mervin also has a passion for singing. NBC, which had three minutes and 33 seconds on the trial (and was the only network to have mentions on each of their flagship newscasts), shockingly led Tuesday’s Nightly News with nearly three minutes (2:53) on the verdict, not the Republican National Convention.     Anchor Lester Holt didn’t mince words from the convention floor: But first, the dramatic verdict in the corruption trial of Senator Bob Menendez. The New Jersey Democrat guilty of all 16 federal counts, including bribery, fraud and extortion. The evidence, including cash and gold bars. The verdict immediately increased pressure on Menendez to resign from the Senate before his term ends at the start of next year. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy among those calling for Menendez to step down. Menendez saying he will appeal the verdict.
