‘The Shining,’ ‘Popeye’ Actress Shelley Duvall Dead At 75

Actress Shelley Duvall of “The Shining” and “Popeye” fame has died at the age of 75 from complications related to diabetes. The actress passed away in her sleep on Thursday at her home in Blanco, Texas, her longtime boyfriend Dan Gilroy announced online. “My dear, sweet, wonderful life, partner, and friend left us last night,” Gilroy wrote in a statement. “Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away beautiful Shelley.” Duvall was known for appearing in Robert Altman’s films, including “Thieves Like Us,” “Nashville, ” “Popeye,” “Three Women,” and “McCabe & Ms. Miller.” “He offers me … good roles,” the actress told The New York Times in 1977, per NPR. “None of them have been alike. He has a great confidence in me, and a trust and respect for me, and he doesn’t put any restrictions on me or intimidate me, and I love him. I remember the first advice he ever gave me: ‘Don’t take yourself seriously.’” Duvall was also well-known for her leading role opposite Jack Nicholson in “The Shining.” Her terrified face when Nicholson busted down a door with an axe as he said “Heeeeere’s Johnny!” became a defining image of the horror genre. But the actress retired from Hollywood in the 1990s and disappeared from the spotlight. She discussed her departure from the industry in an interview earlier this year.  “How would you feel if people were really nice, and then, suddenly, on a dime, they turn on you? You would never believe it unless it happens to you. That’s why you get hurt, because you can’t really believe it’s true,” Duvall told The New York Times in April. There were rumors that director Stanley Kubrick treated her badly while filming “The Shining.” Shelley Duvall, legendary character actor, and The Shining’s extraordinary Wendy Torrance has died at the age of 75. Shelley’s career was varied and long. Trump Slams George Clooney: ‘He’s Turned On Crooked Joe Like The Rats They Both Are’

Former President Donald Trump blasted George Clooney on Wednesday after the actor called on President Joe Biden to end his presidential campaign in a New York Times op-ed. Clooney, who hosted a Hollywood fundraiser for Biden just last month, wrote in the Times that he “love[s] Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as a president,” but added that “We are not going to win in November with this president.” Trump responded to Clooney’s flip on Biden, calling both of them “rats.” “So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “What does Clooney know about anything? He uses the Democrat ‘talking point’ that Biden, the WORST President in the history of the United States, has ‘saved our Democracy.’ No, Crooked Joe was the one who WEAPONIZED Law Enforcement against his political Opponent, who created the most devastating INFLATION in the history of our Country, who Embarrassed our Nation in Afghanistan, and whose crazy Open Border Policy has allowed millions of people to illegally pour into our Country, many from prisons and mental institutions,” Trump added. “Crooked Joe Biden didn’t save our Democracy, he brought our Democracy to its knees. Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!” Clooney joined a chorus of people on the Left who are calling on Biden to step aside and let another candidate run against Trump. That list includes a mounting number of Democratic lawmakers. “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” Clooney added in his opinion piece. Biden has doubled down on his intentions to remain the Democrats’ presidential nominee as the party’s convention nears. “The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party,” Biden wrote in a letter sent to Congressional Democrats earlier this week. “Do we now just say this process didn’t matter? That the voters don’t have a say?” “I decline to do that. I feel a deep obligation to the faith and the trust the voters of the Democratic Party have placed in me to run this year,” Biden added. “It was their decision to make.” However, poll results from The Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos published on Wednesday showed that a majority of Democrats and more than 70% of independents think Biden should drop out of the race.

Ramblin’ Man: Biden’s Tendency To Ramble Is Twice As Bad As When He Was VP, Analysis Finds

President Joe Biden increasingly stops mid-sentence to start over with a new thought, correct himself, or go on a tangent, at a rate twice as frequent as when he was Vice President, according to a Daily Wire analysis of official White House transcripts. The man who assumed the presidency in January 2021 was not the same speaker who left the vice presidency in January 2017, the analysis of thousands of speeches across 11 years showed. And the man who bumbled through remarks in recent months was not the same one who assumed the presidency just three years ago. The president’s difficulties keeping his train of thought or speaking clearly are reliably reflected in official transcripts by em dashes, like this: “I sat down — and we were in Great Britain, in England — and I sat down, and I was sitting between as he used to go, ‘Boris!’ The former prime minister was an interesting guy. And — (laughter) — no, he’s not a bad guy. But — and Macron and — and Schmidt [sic] and, you know — I mean, Scholz — what am I talking about?” This animated chart shows the massive increase in such speech between 2017 and 2021, and in each three-month period of his presidency since. Watch the graphic to see it highlight an example of his rambling speech from each time period every few seconds: The chart confirms quantifiably, through an objective methodology, the decline in Biden’s cognition that was on display at his June 27 debate against Donald Trump, and suggests that it would be far worse by the end of a second term. It shows that the bumbling manner of speaking is not the result of a lifelong stutter or simply a folksy style, but something that has gotten progressively more pronounced over time, and at this rate could soon make the commander-in-chief difficult to comprehend. READ MORE: Biden Speaking Errors Doubled In Last Year, Analysis Of Official Transcript Corrections Finds The computer analysis shows the rate of such fragmented speech relative to the total words spoken in that quarter. The leftmost bar shows the average rate for Biden’s vice presidency. Here are other examples, progressing through time: “The future rent, it’s unlikely — at least the hope is, since they have been made whole to that point — that they’d be inclined — because the economy is growing — inclined not to throw someone out in the street; keep that person — no guarantee — keep that person in the apartment, keep these kids in the same school district, and count on being able to have the opportunity for that — that person to be able — who may now be employed — to pay their rent.” (Remarks by President Biden on Fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic 2021-08-03) “I — when the — when I was Vice President, I was given the responsibility of overseeing, as my — now running the Vets Department, but my — the former — the former chief of staff of — I was saying here to Denis, who can tell you — of implementing the Recovery Act, which was nearly $9 billion in stimulus pack- — $900 billion stimulus package.” (Remarks by President Biden in Cabinet Meeting 2021-11-12) “And there’s — when I ran this time — and this is about what I think we have to do — continue to do — I decided that when those folks — and you and I talked about this, Eddie — when those folks came out of those fields in Charlottesville, carrying those torches and Nazi flags and — and singing all that white supremacist — anyway.” (Remarks by President Biden at a Democratic National Committee Finance Event 2023-02-03) “So, I did — got it — we got a little negotiation. If you are — and God forbid, I hope you don’t need it — but if you need insulin, you’re paying now fift- — $35 a month to make you — (applause) — because — and, by the way, it’s saving the taxpayers billions of dollars — billions of dollars.” (Remarks by President Biden at a Campaign Reception | Albuquerque, NM 2023-08-09) “For example — and I’ll end with this — there is more carbon absor- — absorbed from the atmosphere on a daily basis — and I’ll look to my — my friend, John Kerry, who’d forgotten more about this than most people know — correct me if I get this wrong, John, but I’m quite sure I’m right — and that is that there’s more carbon observed [absorbed] from the air into the Amazon region into the ground — the ground — than emitted in the entire United States on the same basis.” (Remarks by President Biden in a Press Conference 2023-09-10) “MAGA Republicans in the Congress are also trying to undo the progress we’ve made to make it — make getting a — you know, look, what — what I was able to do in the — what they call the G7, among the NATO countries and European countries — I was able to get them to all agree — and then around the world; all the democracies — agree that we were going to have a global minimum tax on corporates — on corporations. Meaning that you couldn’t have a — offering a tax to build or make something in another country that’s a considerably lower than what the tax would be in that country where if — it in fact comes from.” (Remarks by President Biden on Bidenomics | Largo, MD 2023-09-14) “So, guess what? When we begin — begin to manufacture — when we were — negotiate with — when I said — look, Medicare buys all these drugs — billions of dollars’ worth — to take care of Medicare and Medicaid.” (Remarks by President Biden on Agreement with Intel for CHIPS and Science Act Award | Chandler, AZ 2024-03-20) The analysis of rambling speech mirrors the findings of a previous Daily Wire investigation that looked at errors corrected by the White House in transcripts. That story found that cases where he said the completely wrong words, leading White House staff to strike out his remarks and replace them with what he should have said in brackets, doubled in the 12 months leading up to his disastrous debate performance in June. The staff made 51 corrections to the official transcripts this May alone, up from 33 a year prior, as Biden said things like “I still got 136 [3.6] million people’s debt relieved,” “Today, 720 [270] million Americans,”and “When you muild from the biddle [build from the middle].”  This article is the second in a series analyzing evidence of Biden’s mental agility over time.
