Experts Applaud Trump’s Stern Investment Memorandum on China

President Donald Trump signed an executive memorandum Friday limiting investment by China in critical industries in the United States. The memorandum, “America First Investment Policy,” asserted that Chinese investment could be used for malevolent ends.  Wilson Beaver, a policy adviser at the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation, praised the move in a statement to The Daily Signal.  “Chinese malign foreign influence in critical sectors of American industry is a national security problem that should have been tackled years ago. This move by the Trump administration is an absolutely necessary step to protect American industry and defense supply chains, which are both critical to protecting American prosperity and security,” Beaver said.  Brent Sadler, a senior research fellow at the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation, concurred, telling The Daily Signal that the policy change signaled that American reciprocity was back in style.  “Reciprocity is a reemerging catchphrase born in Trump’s first term as president, and it is memorialized in his recent executive order—’America First Investment Policy’—but it goes further, focusing on attracting investment at home by our allies. Finally, and critically, investment by U.S. firms in Chinese industry that pose a national security concern will be aggressively pursued and curtailed,” Sadler said.  That echoes what Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Waltz, said at an appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday.  “We’re done with allowing China to infiltrate critical strategic assets like the Panama Canal,” Waltz said.  Trump’s executive action also drew praise from Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Ill., who serves on the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. “The Chinese Communist Party is working every day to replace the United States as the sole superpower on the world stage. As a member of the Select Committee on China, I have seen firsthand that the CCP will utilize any tool at its disposal to beat us economically, technologically, militarily, and diplomatically. I applaud President Trump and his national security team’s decision to protect U.S. national security and combat the CCP’s continued exploitation of investment in U.S. critical industries,” LaHood told The Daily Signal. Bryan Burack, senior policy adviser at the Asian Studies Center of The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal that the move is part of a broader effort at making the U.S. less reliant on China.  “President Trump’s America First Investment Policy is the most important strategic decoupling effort in a generation, and it follows through on his first administration’s work to restrict funding to Chinese military companies. For decades, a dogmatic and globalist approach to investment allowed China to leverage our own economy to hollow out our industries and develop its military and technological capabilities. President Trump is setting things right by underscoring the importance of our world-leading capital markets, but also ensuring that they serve America first, rather than our adversaries,” Burack told The Daily Signal. “The new policy underscores simple truths that have been ignored for far too long: Economic security is national security. Investment is not in the national interest when it builds our adversaries’ military might. And it is wrong to help communist China buy out our heartland and dominate the technologies of the future,” Burack added. “Some members of Congress have tried for years to stop such investments, but attempts at reform have repeatedly failed as Wall Street and [lobbyists] continue business as usual with China. President Trump’s new investment policy is a strong signal that his administration will take action and will expect Congress to contribute where legislation is necessary,” he said.  In its principles and objectives section, the memorandum justified the president’s action by contending that the Chinese government uses its investments in the United States in attempts to increase its technological capabilities.  “Certain foreign adversaries, including the People’s Republic of China (PRC), systematically direct and facilitate investment in United States companies and assets to obtain cutting-edge technologies, intellectual property, and leverage in strategic industries. The PRC pursues these strategies in diverse ways, both visible and concealed, and often through partner companies or investment funds in third countries,” the memorandum stated. The memorandum announced that the Trump administration would “use all necessary legal instruments, including the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), to restrict PRC-affiliated persons from investing in United States technology, critical infrastructure, health care, agriculture, energy, raw materials, or other strategic sectors.” The memorandum went on to promise to protect farmland and real estate near strategic areas. The defensive actions from the Trump administration come as the artificial intelligence arms race heats up between the U.S. and China. Last month, China released DeepSeek, a large language-learning model that astounded the world (and temporarily tanked the stock market) with its abilities. Trump’s actions are an attempt to try to counteract unfair Chinese advantages. The post Experts Applaud Trump’s Stern Investment Memorandum on China appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Cat Spotted Outside Goes from Wide-eyed to Spirited, Realizing Things are About to Get Much Better

A cat found in a carrier outside went from wide-eyed to spirited once he realized things were about to get much better. PigeonGreenpointCatsAbout a month ago, Greenpoint Cats received an urgent message about a tabby cat left outside in a carrier near a dumpster. The finder rushed to bring the cat inside from the rain. When they opened the carrier, they saw a frightened little guy, his eyes frantically darting around. Despite everything he'd endured, he never hissed and didn't have a mean bone in his body.Volunteers at Greenpoint Cats sprang into action and offered their help. GreenpointCatsHe arrived at his foster home, where his foster mom had set up a cozy, quiet space for him to decompress. For the first few days, he was wide-eyed and terrified, staying in his carrier and hesitant to explore. He was easily startled when his foster mom tried to pet him, but slowly, he warmed up to her soothing voice, accepted her touch, and started to relax. GreenpointCatsIt's unclear exactly why the cat was abandoned, but he will never spend another day outside."Given that the majority of male cats we rescue are not neutered, there is clearly a bigger problem, and NYC needs to provide more education and more access to affordable spay and neuter services," Greenpoint Cats shared. GreenpointCatsWith food available around the clock and the presence of a kind human, the cat began to understand he no longer had to hide. When he found the courage to venture out, his adorable self started to emerge. After exploring every corner of his room, he felt comfortable enough to stand tall, his ears no longer flattened. He even began to communicate with cheerful trills and chirps. GreenpointCatsThey affectionately named him Pigeon, inspired by the sweet cooing sounds he made. As his confidence grew, he became more vocal, letting his quirky and endearing personality shine through."This sweet boy loves to chat and keep you company throughout the day." GreenpointCatsThe worries in his eyes completely melted away, replaced by joy, playfulness, and a hint of mischief. "Pigeon is always up for a good play session but also knows how to relax—whether it's napping on the cat tree, sunbathing on the rug, or curling up near you."Once he got his paws on a catnip toy, he rubbed his whole face on it. GreenpointCatsWhen he felt his foster mom had been on the computer for too long, he strolled over and settled on the keyboard, gently reminding her to take a break.Pigeon quickly blossomed into an affectionate, spirited cat who didn't like to be alone. GreenpointCats"He's a little shadow who loves being close to his favorite humans, even following you into the bathroom to supervise your daily routine.""He enjoys the company of other cats and even tolerates dogs, making him a great addition to a multi-pet household." GreenpointCatsThe resident cats warmly embraced him, letting him snuggle up whenever he needed company. "Not only does he tolerate pets and cuddles, he actually enjoys them. Pigeon is the perfect mix of silly and sweet."It didn't take long for Pigeon to wriggle his way into the hearts of a family. GreenpointCatsThe once wide-eyed tabby abandoned in a carrier has blossomed into a playful, curious, and happy boy. He will never be lonely again now that he's surrounded by loving humans and other resident animals. GreenpointCatsThanks to the kindness of his rescuer and many volunteers, Pigeon has found his forever home with a family who will cherish and spoil him endlessly. DOGE fight? Speaker Johnson speaks out AGAINST giving back to taxpayers

Elon Musk and Donald Trump have suggested that the government give the American people’s wasted tax dollars back to them, and while it seems like a great idea to most, one Republican lawmaker believes it's a horrible idea. “The president said that a percentage of DOGE savings could maybe go back to the American people in the form of what he called ‘DOGE stimulus checks,’ something like 20%. How would that work?” Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was asked on stage at CPAC. “I mean, politically, that would be great for us, you know, send everybody a check,” Johnson responded. “But if you think about our core principles, fiscal responsibility is what we do as conservatives. That’s our brand, and we have a $36 trillion federal debt. We have a giant deficit that we’re contending with.” “I think we need to pay down the credit card, right? That’s what I think we need to do,” he added. Liz Wheeler of “The Liz Wheeler Show” couldn’t disagree more. “He opposes it on principle,” Wheeler says. “‘Fiscal conservatism is our brand,’ he said. No, it’s not your brand, because you and many of your colleagues have been in Congress for decades now, and you haven’t done anything to stop the spending.” “You have not done anything to pay down the debt and the deficit. All you’ve done is make it worse,” she continues, noting that Elon and Trump’s idea would actually help the American people. “He’s actually doing something more effectively to practice fiscal conservatism than you’ve ever done,” she continues. “Yeah, we do have a lot of debt. We do have this deficit, and that’s not good, but the American people have prices that they’re facing. Whether it’s health care costs or the cost of eggs at the grocery store or housing.” “It’s almost unaffordable to live,” she adds. Judge denies emergency motion from Associated Press demanding access to White House

A federal judge shot down a request from the Associated Press for an emergency motion to allow the outlet access to White House pool events after being banned by President Donald Trump. The AP said it was shut out of events after it refused to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, as commanded in an executive order from Trump. "The AP Stylebook" is used by many journalists to standardize writing practices across many news outlets. 'We are vigilant in standing against entities like the AP that refuse to put America first.' U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden declined to issue a temporary injunction the AP was requesting in order to regain access to the Oval Office and Air Force One. However, he scheduled a hearing for March 20 to fully hear the case. The AP argued that the ban violated the outlet'sconstitutional right to free speech, while attorneys for the Trump administration argued that the news outlet did not have “special media access to the president.” "It is alarming that the Trump administration would punish AP for its independent journalism," the AP said in a previous statement. "Limiting our access to the Oval Office based on the content of AP’s speech not only severely impedes the public’s access to independent news, it plainly violates the First Amendment."U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. released a statement about the case. "As President Trumps' [sic] lawyers, we are proud to fight to protect his leadership as our President and we are vigilant in standing against entities like the AP that refuse to put America first," he wrote. The president addressed the issue when asked by reporters if he would consider lifting the ban. “We’re going to keep them out until such time that they agree that it’s the Gulf of America," Trump responded. “I do think that some of the phrases they want to use are ridiculous, and I think, frankly, they’ve become obsolete, especially in the last three weeks,” he added about the stylebook. McFadden was nominated by Trump. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Insane brawl in Atlanta airport caught on video — and clip goes viral. No reported arrests.

A brawl inside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was caught on video — and clip has gone viral. You can view cellphone videos of the violence here and here; a news station report also used video of the melee. While the clips appear to show about 10 young people, mostly males, trading kicks, punches, and shoves, a couple of females got involved as well, with one standing atop a row of chairs and delivering kicks.'Why behave this way?'As of Monday afternoon, the longest of the two X clips has garnered 2.4 million views since it was posted three days before. WAGA-TV reported that the violence took place Wednesday at what appeared to be a Spirit Airlines boarding gate.Atlanta police told WAGA they responded to reports of a large disturbance at the airport, but the combatants dispersed by the time they got to the gate. The station added that it's not clear what prompted the fight or if any of those involved are facing consequences.WAGA said it reached out to a spokesperson for the airport as well as for Spirit Airlines but was still waiting to hear back from both.TMZ said it has "seen a few fights" at the Atlanta airport, "but this is by far the largest one to date."A male who either was recording video of the brawl or standing next to a cellphone camera operator is heard saying, “All I know is that if y’all touch me, I’m knocking the s**t outta of everybody. ... Embarrassing."Other observers on X were equally disgusted. One commenter suggested a "lifetime no-fly list on all airlines" punishment for brawl participants."Why behave this way?" another X user wondered.Another commenter asked, "How are there so many TSA agents at airports yet response time to stuff like this is embarrassingly slow ... @DOGE @elonmusk please can we audit TSA next? No one knows how they work, they wield too much power, and they tend to be largely unprofessional."Like Blaze News? Stanislav Petrov, The Man Who ‘Saved The World’ By Single-Handedly Preventing A Nuclear War In 1983

On September 26, 1983, Soviet officer Stanislav Petrov was on duty monitoring a warning system for nuclear attacks when his computer alerted him that the United States had just launched five missiles toward the U.S.S.R. — and he had only moments to decide if it was a false alarm.
