Outmatched or Outsourced&;#63; Why Parents' Values Fail to Translate to Their Children

Are left-leaning parents better at passing on their values to their children&;#63; The results of one recent study seem to indicate that they are‚ especially to their daughters. But there’s a better explanation -- one articulated millennia ago by God’s Word. According to a 2023 poll by the Survey Center on American...

Give Your Anxiety Space To Speak – Encouragement for Today – April 24‚ 2024

April 24‚ 2024 Give Your Anxiety Space To SpeakTAYLOR JOY MURRAY  Lee en espa&;ntilde;ol &;quot; Why are you in despair‚ O my soul&;#63; And why have you become restless and disturbed within me&;#63; Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him‚ for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence.&;quot; Psalm 42:5 (AMP)  For years‚ I've tried to outrun my anxiety. Outsmart it. Rationalize myself out of it. I've fought it like an interior World War. It's left me battle worn‚ pummeled with an onslaught of stuffed-down and unexpressed emotions. It's made me feel spiritually inadequate‚ not enough on the soul level. Typically I'd be midway through an anxiety attack when I'd reach for my Bible‚ holding its pages in a white-knuckled grip. I'd read Psalm 42:5 and rush to the verse's end‚ commanding myself to hope‚ wait‚ praise and give thanks: &;quot;Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him‚ for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence.&;quot; I prayed all those spiritual-sounding verbs might squeeze out my anxiety. The story I've carried in my mind and body‚ however‚ has been very different from the triumphant testimony I expect and esteem in the Bible. Sometimes I've felt ashamed of my struggle‚ wanting to lock it out of my life. But as I've fought‚ I've also realized there's a tenderness underneath my commandeering‚ like a crying child hiding behind armor. Can I tell you something I've discovered&;#63; There's a difference between sacred‚ intentional turning toward God and just using Christian words to bypass our pain. Anxiety is often a blinking light on the dashboard of our hearts‚ indicating that something deeper is going on inside of us. The longer we suppress our anxiety‚ the louder it screams. The louder we shout at it to go away‚ the louder it has to shout over us. Recently‚ I've realized that in my rush to get to the end of Psalm 42:5‚ I never allowed myself space to answer these first questions: &;quot; Why are you in despair‚ O my soul&;#63; And why have you become restless and disturbed within me&;#63;&;quot; Could we find a way toward stillness by giving our anxiety space to speak&;#63; Perhaps the anxiety that wells up inside doesn't need to be locked away but instead listened to. Here's a simple rhythm for anxious moments: Pause and notice. Try to identify your anxiety or whatever emotions you're experiencing‚ noticing how and where you feel them in your body. Attune and shift. Physically slow down and be still if possible. Extend compassion toward yourself. Ask and reflect. Ask your anxiety‚ What are you trying to tell me&;#63; Breathe and be. Simply be with God in the emotion without trying to fix it. Pausing only takes a few minutes. But as I've practiced engaging with God and myself in a less hurried‚ more honest way‚ I've noticed something beautiful: My anxiety doesn't have to scream so much to get my attention. Dear God‚ I don't want anxiety or unaddressed emotions to consume me. Would You help me compassionately listen to my anxiety today&;#63; Show me how to be with You in it and how to receive the comfort You offer me. In Jesus' Name‚ Amen. OUR FAVORITE THINGS As Christians‚ how can we approach challenging situations and conversations in a God-honoring way&;#63; How do we balance grace and truth when someone in our community disagrees with us ... or believes something different than us&;#63; Lysa TerKeurst‚ counselor Jim Cress and Dr. Joel Muddamalle are covering all these questions and more in their most recent conversation‚ &;quot; How To Handle Politics and Family.&;quot; Start watching on YouTube here&;#33; Taylor Joy Murray's book Stop Saying I'm Fine: Finding Stillness When Anxiety Screams blends therapeutic insight with spiritual truth to help you dig beneath the surface of your anxiety. [WATCH] Orange Hue Engulfs The Skies In Greece

Greece was overtaken by orange skies on Tuesday‚ with the strange haze blamed on dust clouds blown from the Sahara Desert across the Mediterranean Sea. The frightening hue made Athens and other parts of the country resemble a Mars-like atmosphere. WATCH: WATCH: Saharan dust turning the sky of Athens‚ Greece completely orange pic.twitter.com/OoCB8h4Vq3 — Quick News Alerts (@QuickNewsAlerts) April 23‚ 2024 Athens‚ Greece 23/04/2024 “What’s going on – I never saw this – It’s completely Orange – the Sun should be there” pic.twitter.com/kQWT26OOOX — Concerned Citizen (@BGatesIsaPyscho) April 23‚ 2024 From the Associated Press: Strong southerly winds carried the dust from the Sahara Desert‚ giving the atmosphere of the Greek capital a Martian-like filter in the last hours of daylight. The skies are predicted to clear on Wednesday as winds shift and move the dust‚ with temperatures dipping. On Tuesday‚ the daily high in parts of the southern island of Crete topped 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit)‚ more than 20 degrees C higher than what was registered in much of northern Greece. The strong southerly winds over the past few days have also fanned unseasonal early wildfires in the country’s south. The fire service said Tuesday evening that a total 25 wildfires broke out across the country in the past 24 hours. Three people were arrested on the Aegean Sea resort island of Paros on suspicion of accidentally starting a scrub blaze on Monday‚ it added. No significant damage or injuries were reported‚ and the fire was quickly contained. Authorities warned that the dust concentrations can reduce sunlight and visibility while increasing concentrations of fine pollution particles‚ posing risks for people with underlying health problems. The Sahara releases 60 to 200m tonnes of mineral dust a year. While the largest particles come rapidly back down to earth‚ the smallest can travel thousands of kilometres‚ potentially reaching all of Europe. The Greek weather service said the skies would begin to clear on Wednesday. The Greek skies eerily resemble the day last year when New York City looked like the scene of an apocalyptic movie. Canadian wildfires received the blame for NYC’s orange skies. Smoke from Canadian wildfires has drifted across the US East Coast and Midwest. Judge Reportedly Said Second Amendment Doesn’t Exist In Courtroom‚ Man Faces 18 Years In Prison For Gunsmithing

There’s been a case in New York that should be making headlines around the United States but hasn’t garnered much media coverage.  The case involves Dexter Taylor‚ a New York native convicted of 13 weapons charges after having been arrested and charged in 2022 for gunsmithing. “He liked the nature of putting together guns from lawfully purchased parts‚” Bearing Arms stated. However‚ the tyrannical state of New York came after Taylor for his gunsmithing hobby. Jeff Charles provided details about the case at RedState: The jury found Taylor guilty of second-degree criminal possession of a loaded weapon‚ four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon‚ five counts of criminal possession of a firearm‚ second-degree criminal possession of five or more firearms‚ unlawful possession of pistol ammunition‚ violation of certificate of registration‚ prohibition on unfinished frames or receivers. Two lesser charges‚ including third-degree criminal possession of three or more firearms and third-degree possession of a weapon‚ were not voted on. Taylor‚ a 52-year-old New York native and a software engineer‚ discovered the world of gunsmithing years ago. He decided to take it up as a hobby and possibly turn it into a business later. However‚ when a joint ATF/NYPD task force discovered he was legally buying parts from various companies‚ they opened up an investigation that led to a SWAT raid and arrest. He is currently being jailed on Rikers Island as he awaits sentencing. Taylor’s conviction highlights the ongoing battle for gun rights. During an interview with Vinoo Varghese‚ Taylor’s defense lawyer‚ he detailed how Taylor’s trial proceeded and highlighted a distinct bias in favor of the prosecution. Varghese described how Taylor became fascinated by weapon science during the COVID-19 lockdowns‚ which inspired him to take up his gunsmithing hobby. “He ended up building‚ I believe it was eight pistols and five rifles or six rifles‚ AR-style rifles‚ and then eight or nine Glock pistols that he built‚” Varghese said. According to Varghese‚ the judge presiding over the case said the Second Amendment doesn’t exist in their courtroom. “She told us‚ ‘Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York‚'” Varghese told RedState. &;quot;Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York&;quot; New York is basically seceding. pic.twitter.com/WDn3xvBPYr — Being Libertarian (@beinlibertarian) April 23‚ 2024 ‘Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York.' Judge Abena Darkeh pic.twitter.com/BGc16sqdOM — Richard Nascak (@RichNascak) April 23‚ 2024 Without government who would tell you that you can't bring up your Constitutional Rights‚ during your trial&;#63;&;#33;https://t.co/tA0QCXadTl — Doni (@DoniTheDon_) April 22‚ 2024 Bearing Arms wrote: The Second Amendment doesn’t exist there&;#63; Excuse the hell out of me&;#63; “This is New York&;#63;” This just smacks of “the Aloha spirit” nonsense where some parties seem to think that the Constitution doesn’t actually apply because they really‚ really don’t like it. Is the judge in this case‚ Judge Abena Darkeh‚ suggesting that the Second Amendment doesn’t apply anywhere she doesn’t approve&;#63; What other rights don’t exist in New York under Judge Darkeh’s paradigm&;#63; Do defendants not have the right to representation&;#63; Is free speech non-existent&;#63; Oh‚ one might make the case that I’m being ridiculous‚ but I don’t think I am. Not based on Darkeh’s other actions. Varghese also tries to take a jury nullification approach. Jury nullification basically means you convince the jury that while a crime might have occurred‚ the law in question is the real problem. It’s rare‚ but it’s still a thing. Judges aren’t supposed to encourage it‚ but they’re not supposed to stop it. Yet Judge Darkeh did just that. She reportedly warned jurors in such a way as to suggest they could face consequences if they didn’t vote to convict. Watch Varghese discuss the case on “A Fresh Perspective with Jeff Charles”: “Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13‚ and it appears Judge Darkeh will likely make an example out of him to send a message to others who might consider building their own firearms in New York‚ according to Varghese. He could be facing between 10 and 18 years in prison‚” Charles wrote at RedState. However‚ Taylor and Varghese are determined to fight as long as possible. Varghese believes they have a chance of winning in federal court. Watch Taylor discuss his case in the clip below: .@DoniTheDon_ and I had a very serious conversation with @futureradiocast about his gun case in New York City. The government is trying to lock him up for 18 years for manufacturing his own firearms. Check out this clip. I'll be writing about this later with more detail. pic.twitter.com/ymEZmQR3SB — Jeff Charles‚ An Awful Pundit (@jeffcharlesjr) December 13‚ 2023 Varghese joined “The Breanna Morello Show” last week to provide updates on the case. “Dexter Taylor (@futureradiocast) was convicted by a NYC jury over allegations protected by the 2nd Amendment. The judge in his case openly told the jury the 2nd Amendment does not apply in their courtroom. Dexter is currently in one of the most dangerous jails in the country‚” The Breanna Morello Show wrote. I am a New York native; a father; a Data Engineer with almost 30 years in the software industry; the founder of The Foundationist Society (www.futurerad.io); a licensed Radio operator (Technician class); a musician and studio owner; a carpenter; a metalworker; an old-school analog electronics geek (with a squeaky-clean criminal record)‚” a GiveSendGo for Taylor writes. Please share&;#33; Any contribution helps. https://t.co/EK0KNofIb0 — Carbon Mike (@futureradiocast) April 17‚ 2024 Per GiveSendGo: BUT The State of New York believes I’m a Dangerous Felon — because I’m also an gunsmith. Because I quietly exercised my Second Amendment rights at home‚ building weapons and developing weapons-science and new hardware/software products‚ I was raided by an NYPD / ATF task force in April of 2022. (At the time‚ I was a member in good standing of the Westside Rifle and Pistol Range in Manhattan.) We’re fighting the case now. If I lose‚ I’m looking at 18 years in prison — but of course there is no guarantee that I’ll win. This campaign is to help me cover my legal fees and expenses during the trial and the appeal process. Thank you.
