DEVELOPING: Terminal At NYC Airport Evacuated

Authorities temporarily evacuated LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B Saturday morning due to a suspicious package. “Law enforcement and other authorities are on the scene at LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B in Queens, New York, where dozens of passengers and staff have been evacuated following a reported security threat involving a suspicious device. TSA officials have temporarily halted passenger screening, and additional emergency response teams are arriving to assess and secure the area,” Rawsalerts wrote. “Authorities are urging travelers to avoid Terminal B and expect delays or potential flight disruptions,” the post added. All would-be travelers who had not been screened through security were evacuated and told to wait outside. “I was very close to the front. I started seeing TSA agents telling everyone to stop screening. One agent was speaking on the radio,” passenger Robert Baston told The Post. “After that they told everyone to evacuate the terminal. Everyone was outside to the passenger drop off area…The TSA agents, they haven’t really told us anything,” he shrugged. An official told ABC News that the suspicious package went through security screening when TSA flagged the package. Due to the situation, there were also delays on several MTA bus lines near the airport. The MTA says commuters should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations.

Ron DeSantis Reportedly Asked If He’s Seeking Position In Trump Administration

While speaking to students and alumni at the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Citizenship and Constitutional Government, a student asked the Florida governor if he intended to seek a position in President Trump’s administration. According to Florida Phoenix, DeSantis said he’s “not seeking anything.” JUST IN: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says that he is not seeking a role in the Trump administration. What's your reaction? pic.twitter.com/fiJseU9wLq — Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) November 9, 2024 “I think for me, I’m not seeking anything,” DeSantis said, according to the outlet. DeSantis did not directly address if he’s been in communication with Trump’s team. “I’ve got a great job in the state of Florida,” he continued. “How can I best make a difference? I think, you know, given where we are, I think me quarterbacking the Sunshine State is probably how I make the biggest difference,” he added. Per Florida Phoenix: DeSantis reflected on the GOP’s General Election performance, bragging about the solid-red shade Florida has turned. Trump won the state by more than 13%, while the party increased its supermajority in the Florida House. “We now have a situation in the state of Florida, you notice on election night the other day, nobody was worrying about how Florida was going to come out,” DeSantis said. “In fact, the Florida Democratic Party, most recently, changed its mascot, and they chose a very beautiful, nice Florida panther. The only problem is that is an endangered species, but it’s telling because that’s what they become in the Sunshine State.” DeSantis spent the weeks leading up to the election hosting campaign-style rallies aimed at defeating amendments 3 and 4, which both earned broad majority support but failed to hit the 60% requirement to pass and would have legalized marijuana for recreational use and secured a state constitutional right to an abortion, respectively. The governor said GOP performance did not suffer from abortion being directly on the ballot. “I think if you look at the election in terms of the candidates, abortion was the dog that didn’t bark,” DeSantis said. “I mean, it did not cost Republicans any elections. I can tell you, in the state of Florida, we expanded our supermajority in the state House of Representatives and, you’ll hear, people will attack our pro-life legislation as being some somehow so extreme and yet the reality is the voters could have penalized those legislators for that, and they decided to reelect all of them and even turn out a couple Democrats.” Although DeSantis said he’s “not seeking anything,” he pitched Joseph Ladapo, the state’s surgeon general, for HHS secretary in Trump’s administration. “Retweet if you’d like to see this man — Dr. Joseph Ladapo — serve as the Secretary of HHS in the new Trump administration,” DeSantis said earlier this week. From POLITICO: Trump told Joe Rogan during his podcast appearance before the election that his top mistake during his first time in office was that he “picked a few people I shouldn’t have picked.” Following his hard-fought comeback to the White House, Trump is heading into office with a more organized and professional staff and with the experience of hindsight. Florida, too, has undergone a transformation since 2016, when Trump won the state by just over one point. The 2024 election cemented Florida as a Republican stronghold, with Trump winning by 13 points and Democrats failing to flip the Senate seat. The GOP supermajority in the Legislature is still standing, and Gov. Ron DeSantis defeated amendments on pot and abortion that saw success in other parts of the U.S. Esteban Bovo, Hialeah’s Republican mayor who’s an avid Trump supporter, said he thought Trump should look for people who “buy into his agenda and will help him fulfill his agenda” rather than “people who try to control him or try to navigate the bureaucracy.” And Floridians could be tapped not just for high-profile secretary roles, but to become one of those thousands of political appointees across government, who are crucial at actually executing policy. Some names floated by Florida operatives include loyalists like Bovo. Others include Miami Commissioner Kevin Cabrera, who was Florida state director for Trump’s 2020 campaign, and state Sen. Joe Gruters, who was Florida co-chair of Trump’s 2016 campaign and bucked most of the Legislature by endorsing Trump early in 2024.

Pink Floyd Shines On: The Final Sell Out

By Ralph Greco, Jr. “Money it’s a…” It seems that the crick will rise, locusts will circle, and pink pigs will fly. My beloved Pink Floyd (or what is left of it) managed to quell their historic in-fighting and near-agreements and finally reached a deal to sell the rights to their recorded music to Sony Music. The deal is reported to be worth just around the $400 million mark. The money to be handed over is also for rights to the band’s name and likenesses, but not songwriting copyrights, which the individual songwriters will retain. As is true of anybody’s recorded music, the Pink Floyd songs carry two sets of copyrights — one covering the actual songwriting; the other, the actual recordings, or master copy. David Gilmour, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and Floyd’s designated leader after Roger Waters’ departure (and lawsuit) said that he doesn’t really care what Sony does with the recordings, “If it comes on an advert, I’m not gonna give a shit,” he claimed, happy as he is to give up the “last 40-odd years trying to fight the good fight against the forces of indolence and greed to do the best with our stuff that you can do.” Who can blame or damn the guy? The end of all this Floydian brouhaha comes a good year-and-a-half after Pink Floyd seemingly saw a $500 million deal die. At that time, more than just Sony was in the mix to buy the band’s catalog. By all accounts, the actual deal was stalled over questions about interest rates and taxes, how strong the pound wasn’t at the time, and the worry over that fact that ex-Floyd bassist, songwriter, vocalist Roger Waters had been making some interesting, if not downright provocative political and cultural statements to the press. As of late, we are seeing more and more vintage rock artists taking the big payout, although not all are as lucrative as the sale of Pink Floyd’s catalog. As touring becomes more problematic for anybody reaching their seventh and maybe even eighth decade (not everybody is Mick Jagger), and musical trends changing as fast as how people disseminate (some would say steal) their favorite music, it seems a welcome boost for an artist to get what they can in a big final sale. Setting up a comfortable (numb or not) rest of one’s days, as well as fattening the bank accounts of one’s kids and even grandkids is just too good to pass up. Is this technically ‘selling out?’ Hell, one could say that once you reach the level of signing a record deal, shaking hands with a devil machine that could keep you on the road and making records year after year, pretty much locked into a relationship where the artist feels like an indentured servant (and lots of the old contracts these vintage artists signed really did lock them in like this), that one pretty much sells out in the strictest sense of the terms. And let’s not look too deeply at supposed classic bands still touring who don’t even feature any original members. If this is not bamboozling audiences for coin of the realm, I don’t know what is. I would come down just as hard on any ‘new’ act who go out each night lip syncing in front of paying audiences. Yes, you know who you are! Be it a Bruuuuuce, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, David Crosby — no one but the artist can say what’s right or wrong for their career and sensibility and if they should or shouldn’t “grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.” Selling out? Nah, not really, and surely there are worse things.

Clown World! Democrats Want Kamala Harris Appointed to the Court Now

Democrats want to appoint Kamala Harris to the Supreme Court before January. She would undoubtedly add joy and laughter. However, they should leave her be now that she is unburdened by what has been. And as Tim Walz’s daughter said, we don’t deserve Harris. They want her installed like they did when they made her […] The post Clown World!
