Foreign. The British zoologist Adam Britton, who previously worked with David Attenborough and is known from the BBC, has been sentenced to over ten years in prison in Australia for abusing dogs. Of the animals he subjected to sadistic rapes, 39 dogs and puppies died, the Mirror reports.
Adam Britton, formerly a prominent crocodile expert, has pleaded guilty to 56 offenses relating to the torture and sexual exploitation of over 42 dogs on his farm near Darwin, Australia.
The judge described his actions as "unbelievably depraved" and that what he has done is "beyond what any ordinary person can imagine".
During the trial it emerged that the 53-year-old, who comes from England, began his criminal activities in 2014. He then built a secret "torture chamber" where he carried out his abuse. Of the 42 dogs he abused and raped, 39 died, of which nine were puppies.
Adam Britton has admitted to having an interest in "zoo-sadism" and online he helped others with the same interest to commit similar abuses.
Judge Michael Grant expressed strong disgust at the zoologist's actions and banned him from ever owning or caring for mammals again.
Britton's wife Erin, who also works with wildlife, is said to have changed her surname after learning of his crimes.
During the trial, it emerged that Britton has received a psychiatric diagnosis that includes "paraphilia".
The sentence of ten years in prison is criticized as too lenient by animal rights activists. Britton will be eligible for parole after six years.
