Turley Recalls ‘Otherwordly’ Experience At Trump Hush-Money Trial

The presiding judge’s conduct on Tuesday during closing arguments at former President Donald Trump‘s hush-money trial in New York City made for an “otherworldly” experience, according to George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley. Turley told Fox News host Sean Hannity that Judge Juan Merchan allowed prosecutors to discuss former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s plea deal in a way that implicated his old boss—despite orders not to let that influence the jurors who begin deliberations on Wednesday. “What I saw in that courtroom was really otherworldly,” Turley said. “I really attempted to give the judge the benefit of doubt on many occasions, but what I saw today was, frankly, outrageous.” “At one point, the prosecutor actually said that Michael Cohen committed federal election violations upon the orders of Donald Trump,” Turley added. “Now, Merchan has given an instruction that the jury is not to supposed to attribute Cohen’s plea deal as an issue of guilt towards Trump.” “So the defense objected and Merchan just overruled it and allowed the prosecutor to repeatedly state that the federal election violations by Trump are a fact and there is not any dispute to that and Merchan just sat there,” Turley said. Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up payments in a bid to conceal a tryst with adult film star Stormy Daniels as part of a “catch-and-kill” scheme to influence the 2016 election. Trump denies the affair and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Continuing his critique of the judge, Turley quipped that Merchan was “as useful as a ficus plant in that courtroom” as he waited for a “sign” that the judge was listening to what prosecutors were saying during the closing arguments. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP At one point, Turley explained, prosecutors said former White House aide Hope Hicks “burst into tears” because she knew her testimony during the trial “destroyed” Trump’s defense. “Really? How do you know that?” Turley asked rhetorically. Turley also noted a prosecutor “basically started to testify” when saying that “catch-and-kill techniques” like what Trump is accused of employing “are just not used in media or politics.” Turley added, “That’s not in the record. He was giving testimony. There’s no expert for that.” “Hillary Clinton killed and planted cases in that very election,” Turley went on. “Some of the most outrageous hoaxes were perpetrated by the Hillary Clinton campaign with an enabling media. In fact, many of those reporters listening helped the Hillary campaign do that.” “That’s what was so otherworldly about today,” Turley said. “And I can’t imagine a jury member going into deliberations and not assuming that it is an established fact that federal election law violations have occurred.”

Resurfaced Video Shows Police Questioning Scottie Scheffler Moments After His Arrest

A video posted on Facebook last week that resurfaced on Wednesday by Golf Digest Senior Writer Alex Myers shows Scottie Scheffler’s discussion with police moments after he was arrested while trying to enter the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this month. Scheffler was taken into custody after he attempted to drive onto the golf club property ahead of his early tee time in the second round of the PGA Championship on May 17. A fatal accident involving a pedestrian earlier in the morning, which was unrelated to Scheffler’s arrest, had shut down traffic heading into the Valhalla Golf Club. The resurfaced footage, which appears to be taken from one of the officer’s body cameras, shows Scheffler telling an officer that he was instructed by a policeman to “come the opposite way with the traffic” to get into the golf club. Moments later, however, Louisville Police Department Detective Bryan Gillis told him to stop and “grabbed” his arm and “hit” him, according to Scheffler. “So, I’m pulling in here [and] the police officer up there told me to come the opposite way with the traffic and then come in; and as I was pulling in, my window was down, an officer told me to stop,” Scheffler said. “First of all, I did not know he was a police officer. I thought he was one of the security guards that was mistaken; and as I was pulling by him, he grabbed my arm.” “Stop right there,” the cop tells Scheffler in the video. “Why does it matter if he’s a security guard or a police officer if someone is telling you to stop?” “Yes, you’re right,” Scheffler replied. “I should’ve stopped. I did get a little bit impatient because I’m quite late for my tee time; and as he was reaching in the car, he grabbed my shoulder and hit me. … It seemed to be a little over-aggressive because the entrance was open. I pulled over because I was afraid. I thought he was gonna start hitting me and I didn’t know who he was. He didn’t tell me he was a police officer. All I saw was the yellow jacket. I didn’t know what he was doing.” The officer told Scheffler that Gillis was wearing a uniform and a brightly colored jacket that was easily recognizable. “Also, if someone’s telling you to stop, no matter who it is, you don’t keep going,” the officer said. “So, what happened is you kept going and you took him with you while he’s a pedestrian, okay? So, you took him with your car and [dragged] him, which is not a good thing.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “So listen to me, to make it even worse, when he asked you to get out of the car, you refused to get out of the car,” the officer added. Scheffler told him he “was not aware” that Gillis “was a police officer.” “I was actually looking out the window of the car to try to find a police officer,” he said. “If I knew he was a police officer, I would’ve been much less afraid, but panic kinda set in. As you can see, I’m still shaking because I was afraid I didn’t know who he was. He didn’t say, ‘Police, get out of the car.’ He just hit me with his flashlight and yelled, ‘Get out of the car.’” The officer told the No. 1 golfer in the world that it doesn’t matter if Gillis were a traffic guard, a security guard, or a cop, saying that “if someone tells you to stop … that means you stop at that time.” “You actually hurt [Gillis],” the officer said. “He’s got a huge scrape on his knee. He’s getting checked by EMS — a big bruise.” A video on Facebook since May 23 captures Scottie Scheffler’s conversation in police car after arrest. “You’re right, I should have stopped. I did get a little impatient because I’m quite late for my tee time.” Cop says he “drug” and “hurt” officer. https://t.co/R4YtBZ2Wg3 pic.twitter.com/IosEtwj2tZ — Alex Myers (@AlexMyers3) May 29, 2024 Scheffler was charged with four crimes, including felony 2nd-degree assault of an officer. A Jefferson County, Kentucky, prosecutor and Scheffler’s attorney are due in court for a hearing on Wednesday as Scheffler’s defense argues for the charges to be dropped, CNN reported. The golfer said the incident resulted from a “big misunderstanding.”

Janitor Earns Golden Buzzer For Chill-Worthy Performance Of “Don’t Stop Believin'” On “America’s Got Talent”

With each new season of America’s Got Talent, it becomes harder to imagine how there can be more performances that leave us speechless — then someone like Richard Goodall auditions. Although he’s always loved music, early in life, he took a job as a janitor in a local Indiana middle school. He’s still a janitor to this day, but his passion for music never went away. In fact, students can often hear him singing as he works, something they all adore. Still, when it came time for this janitor to potentially audition for AGT, he was understandably nervous. Richard has never done anything like this before. Just before his performance, he admits he’s never even been on a plane before his journey to California. But in spite of any nerves or doubts he had about auditioning, all of that melts away the moment Don’t Stop Believin’ starts to play. The audience and judges wait with anticipation, totally unaware of just how incredible Richard’s singing skills truly are… As you can see in the video above, Richard’s rendition of this classic is absolutely breathtaking. Each note carries the emotions needed to capture what people love so much about it. It’s no wonder, then, that Heidi Klum chose to press her Golden Buzzer for Richard. This will send him straight to the live shows! Janitor’s Golden-Buzzer Worthy AGT Performance Gives Everyone Chills After Richard’s performance, Simon Cowell confidently shares that “America is going to love” him. Based on all of the amazing feedback fans are already giving him, it’s safe to say that he was right! YouTube “If you told me this was Steve Perry and I was blindfolded, I would believe you,” a fan writes. “I’ve never been this blown out of my seat since Nightbirde’s audition 3 years ago. Richard deserves this shot. He didn’t stop Believin’ and now everyone is going to be on his side. Out of this stratosphere, Richard.” “I can’t express with words how proud I am to be able to say that I am one of the kids who always told him how amazing his voice is,” another person shares. “My favorite part of walking through the hallway of Elementary school is hearing this phenomenon. Richard, you are indeed a true hero.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here!
