MSNBC Claims 'The Through Line' Between Alito And Thomas Is Opposing Voting Rights

The Nation’s justice correspondent Elie Mystal joined MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes on Friday for a profoundly unenlightening conversation about all of the Supreme Court’s recent news and nontroversies. In Mystal’s mind, “the through line” between Justice Samuel Alito’s flags and Clarence Thomas’s “coup story” is that they don’t support voting rights for black people. Hayes kicked things off by stating, “I want to start on what we got from the Court today and the fact it was an Alito-authored decision. It was an Alito-authored decision from the Trump majority, 6-3 majority, liberals in dissent, holding up a Republican gerrymander.”     Mystal wasted no time in getting to the hysteria, “Yeah, the through line between the Alito flag story, the Clarence Thomas coup story, and their wives, and what we saw today from the Supreme Court in this gerrymandering decision, the through line is that they don't want black people's votes to count equally.” Hayes interrupted to ask, “Do you think that is true of Clarence Thomas?” Implying that Thomas married a white woman out of some sense of self-loathing, Mystal affirmed that he does, “I know that's true from Clarence Thomas, alright. Their idea and Clarence Thomas today wrote straight up, that he does not think the 14th Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause of that amendment can be used to protect the voting rights of black people. I mean, he's ain’t married to Ginni Thomas for nothing, alright, that's what the man thinks, he wrote it today.” That is not what Thomas wrote and no matter how many times MSNBC claims it is, it will not become true.  Getting back to his original point, Mystal continued, “The through line, understand this, Chris, when these people like Alito and Thomas support the insurrection, right, what are they really saying? They’re saying that Trump won-- lost the election, but won the white vote which is true, he did, he won the white vote by a lot, white people should probably do something about that, but he won the white vote by a lot and what Alito and Thomas are saying is that white vote that Trump won is—that’s the only votes that matter.” He added, “That we should do what the white voters want and when they write these decisions like they are doing in the gerrymandering case, what they are saying is that black voters can be diluted, can have their voting rights taken away, simply because black voters happen to vote Democrat.” Thomas and Alito believe that voting rights apply to all people, they just reject the notion that voting rights are synonymous with Mystal’s preferred candidate always winning, which is ironic as he accuses them of delegitimizing elections. Here is a transcript for the May 24 show: MSNBC All In With Chris Hayes 5/24/2024 8:13 PM ET CHRIS HAYES: I want to start on what we got from the Court today and the fact it was an Alito-authored decision. It was an Alito-authored decision from the Trump majority, 6-3 majority, liberals in dissent, holding up a Republican gerrymander. ELIE MYSTAL: Yeah, the through line between the Alito flag story, the Clarence Thomas coup story, and their wives, and what we saw today from the Supreme Court in this gerrymandering decision, the through line is that they don't want black people's votes to count equally. HAYES: Do you think that is true of Clarence Thomas? MYSTAL: I know that's true from Clarence Thomas, alright. Their idea and Clarence Thomas today wrote straight up, that he does not think the 14th Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause of that amendment can be used to protect the voting rights of black people.  HAYES: Yes. MYSTAL: I mean, he's ain’t married to Ginni Thomas for nothing, alright, that's what the man thinks, he wrote it today. The through line, understand this, Chris, when these people like Alito and Thomas support the insurrection, right, what are they really saying? They’re saying that Trump won-- lost the election, but won the white vote which is true, he did, he won the white vote by a lot, white people should probably do something about that, but he won the white vote by a lot and what Alito and Thomas are saying is that white vote that Trump won is—that’s the only votes that matter. 'Widespread abuse': Frontier Airlines passengers using wheelchair service to cut pre-boarding lines

The New York Post reported that passengers at Frontier Airlines have been exploiting the company's wheelchair service to skip lengthy lines while boarding their flights.CEO Barry Biffle said that "[t]here is massive, rampant abuse of special services. There are people using wheelchair assistance who don’t need it at all."Frontier Airlines, like some other airlines, have a first-come-first-serve policy when it comes to seating. Therefore, people are using the wheelchair service to get on the plane before the bulk of passengers, allowing them to choose their seat before everyone else.'Everyone should be entitled to it who needs it, but you park in a handicapped space they will tow your car and fine you.'The report mentioned Biffle said he has watched 20 people board a flight in a wheelchair, but then only three of those 20 people need the wheelchair service while getting off the plane. “We are healing so many people,” he said lightheartedly.CNBC reported that the wheelchair service costs the company between $30 and $35 for each passenger. The abuse of the service is also thought to lead to delays for travelers who really do need the assistance.“Everyone should be entitled to it who needs it, but you park in a handicapped space they will tow your car and fine you,” Biffle said. “There should be the same penalty for abusing these services.”However, Biffle is not the only executive who has noticed the trend. Reports mentioned that in 2022, John Holland-Kaye, then-CEO of London's Heathrow Airport, said some travelers were "using wheelchair support to try to get fast-tracked through the airport" amid staffing shortages.“If you go on TikTok, that is one of the travel hacks people are recommending,” he continued. “Please don’t do that. We need to protect the service for people who need it most.”The carrier told Fox Business that "[t]here is widespread abuse among passengers using wheelchair services to move to the front of security lines and obtain priority boarding on flights."They went on to mention that “the TSA and airlines are in a difficult position when it comes to managing the issue.”Some passengers have faked injuries to take advantage of the wheelchair services, per reports.John Morris, a triple amputee and founder of WheelchairTravel.org, said "[d]isability impacts people in a lot of different ways."“I think there’s a good case to be made that abusers should face some consequence but I’m not sure how we do that in a society when our disabilities aren’t [always] visible,” Morris concluded.Like Blaze News? Assistant beheaded and dismembered his boss to keep his girlfriend from learning he had stolen $400,000

The tech assistant who allegedly beheaded his boss in 2020 inside his multi-million dollar home in Manhattan did so in what the prosecution has called a crime of passion, according to the Daily Mail. Tyrese Haspil, 25, recently showed up in Manhattan Supreme Court on murder charges for the 2020 killing of Fahim Saleh. The report mentioned Saleh was reportedly dismembered by Haspil, his assistant, who stole $400,000 from the entrepreneur in the years leading up to his death.'[H]e was planning not only to commit the homicide but to get away with it.'Despite carrying out the theft, Haspil was so bent on keeping his actions a secret from his girlfriend, Marine Chaveuz, that he decided to kill his boss. He feared that she would break up with him if she found out about the money he had stolen. The report noted that Saleh's body was discovered in his $2.4 million apartment on the Lower East Side in July of 2020. His body was discovered with no arms or legs. The New York Post reported that Saleh was a venture capitalist and the CEO of Nigeria-based motorbike company Gokada. In January 2020, he confronted Haspil about $90,000 that had disappeared.Even though the money was traced back to Haspil, Saleh decided not to press charges against his assistant because he considered Haspil his protege. Saleh told Haspil he could pay the money back through a payment plan. But instead of paying the money back, Haspil continued stealing money from the company. With the threat of prosecution, Haspil decided to research how to get away with murder, according to prosecutors.“Over this period of time, he was planning not only to commit the homicide but to get away with it …To cover it up and how to erase his debt and prevent Fahim Saleh from testifying in criminal proceedings,” Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Linda Ford said in court.Prosecutors in the case told the court about how they found a Makita saw, demolition bags containing body parts, limbs, and a Home Depot receipt inside Saleh's home, per reports.Over the course of three years, Haspil stole money from Saleh through PayPal and Intuit transfers. Even after Saleh had died, he continued transferring money to his account.Haspil has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges. Such charges carry a minimum sentences of 20 years to life in prison if he is convicted. His lawyers are hoping a jury will instead decide to convict him of manslaughter due to his "emotionally disturbed" defense. This carries a lighter sentence of five to 25 years in prison.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Stardew Valley meets Elite Dangerous in interstellar life sim, out now

There’s lots of competition these days for games adopting the Stardew Valley formula, with the likes of Coral Island, Slime Rancher, and Moonstone Island among my favorites. But they almost all stick to the farming format. Enter Starstruck Vagabond, a new Steam game that takes those laid-back busywork vibes and applies them to the business of running an intergalactic cargo delivery service in the vein of Elite Dangerous or Starfield. 3 big ChatGPT developments that have made me lose trust in OpenAI

I thought OpenAI's GPT-4o demos were incredible, as the new model gives ChatGPT a massive upgrade over competitors. Google demoed similar multimodal assistant features for Gemini, but that demo was not live, and the features won't be available until later this year. The GPT-4o upgrade rolled out almost immediately after the short press event. Reports that said Apple and OpenAI were working on integrating ChatGPT into the iPhone's upcoming iOS 18 update made so much sense. You'd think that OpenAI could do nothing to ruin the demo, but then we witnessed three annoying developments that made me question my trust in the company. OpenAI isn't as old as Big Tech companies that many people hate. But it's not a startup, either. And from the looks of it, it's already starting to behave like a Big Tech player. Continue reading...
