Newly married couples often look to relationship veterans for advice on how to make their marriage last and keep the love alive. Country Star Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, both 34, have known one another since they were kids. And even though they’ve been married for 11 years, it hasn’t always been easy. Thomas wrote about their marriage in his memoir, Live in Love, and wrote songs about his wife for his upcoming album, About a Woman. Adopting [Willa Gray] and getting pregnant at the same time while having to be in Uganda for a year with me traveling back and forth was so challenging. I’d go to Uganda and be husband and dad, and then go to America and be like, ‘OK, shows and music.’ I was internally imploding, and so was Lauren. We’d both come to these breaking points [feeling like] something has to give. It was not a fun time in our marriage. Thomas Rhett Is In The Marriage For The Long Haul Even though life was hard, there was no quitting. “Giving up was not an option. That thought has never crossed my mind or Lauren’s. With me being a fixer and Lauren being stubborn, we made it work. The easiest thing to do is quit. But when you don’t and you keep grinding it out, you’ll inevitably become stronger.” Thomas added the best advice he can give a couple is always to have “Complete honesty at all costs.
