VP Debate on CBS: JD Vance Denounces the True ‘Threat to Democracy’

When CBS moderators harped on the events of Jan. 6, Republican 2024 Vice Presidential Nominee JD Vance came out swinging, addressing a real threat to democracy: the assault by Big Tech and the left on Americans’ First Amendment Rights. During Tuesday night’s 2024 Vice Presidential Debate candidates Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) covered a host of topics including questions on immigration, abortion, child care, health care, immigration and Iran’s recent attack on America’s ally Israel. But Sen. Vance also spoke up about the dire state of Americans’ free speech rights. “I believe we actually do have a threat to democracy in this country, but unfortunately it's not the threat to democracy that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz want to talk about,” Vance said. “It is the threat of censorship.” Vance proceeded to blast Harris and Big Tech companies for their abysmal pro-censorship record. “It's big technology companies silencing their fellow citizens. And it's Kamala Harris saying that rather than debate and persuade her fellow Americans, she’d like to censor people who engage in misinformation,” Vance said. “I think that's a much bigger threat to democracy than anything we've seen in this country in the last four years in the last 40 years.”  The Ohio senator mentioned that former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard had endorsed former President Donald Trump’s campaign over his support for free speech. “We are united behind a basic American First Amendment principle that we ought to debate our differences, we ought to argue about them, we ought to try to persuade our fellow Americans,” Vance told CBS viewers.  Then Vance let Harris have it. “Kamala Harris is engaged in censorship at an industrial scale. She did it during COVID. She has done it on a number of issues and that to me is a much bigger threat to democracy than what Donald Trump said when he said that protestors should protest peacefully.”  The Republican Vice Presidential nominee went after the left for hypocritically purporting to defend democracy while failing to protect “the most sacred right under the United States democracy” the First Amendment.  Vance even took Walz to task for his infamous remark that “There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech.” Vance went on to say that “Kamala Harris wants to use the power of government and Big Tech to silence people from speaking their minds. That is a threat to democracy that will long outlive this present political moment. I would like Democrats and Republicans to both reject censorship.” This request was too much for Walz, who tried to excuse this relentless wave of censorship by saying that you can’t “yell fire in a crowded theater.”  Walz ultimately ignored the substance of Vance’s remarks and the fact that seven federal agencies have colluded with Big Tech to silence Americans’ speech. The Twitter Files also exposed federal pressure on Twitter to silence so-called misinformation and disinformation and Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently apologized for bowing to such pressure on his platforms.  Conservatives are under attack! Contact your representatives and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency, clarity on so-called hate speech and equal footing for conservatives. If you have been censored, contact us using CensorTrack’s contact form, and help us hold Big Tech accountable.

CBS Moderators Trample All Over Debate Rules to Fight with GOP VP Pick

While objectively not as bad a ABC’s presidential debate three weeks ago, which should go down as the worst debate performance by the moderators in U.S. history, CBS’s vice presidential debate Tuesday night didn’t fare much better. Liberal moderators Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell were so desperate to make Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) look bad, that they repeatedly broke the rules of the debate to fact-check him. And their so-called fact-checks were so wrong that Vance had to call them out for it. That’s not to mention the completely slanted and combative questions flung at the Republican vice presidential nominee. Seemingly added in response to the unprofessionalism of the ABC moderators, CBS News agreed that they would not fact-check either candidate and would leave it up to the debaters to do that. But throughout the debate, the moderators either offered up fact-checks against Vance or fact-checks disguised as questions to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D-MN): O’DONNELL: The overwhelming consensus among scientists is that the Earth's climate is warming at an unprecedented rate. Margaret. (…) BRENNAN: Governor, do you care to respond to any of those specific allegations? Including that the Vice President is, quote, “letting in fentanyl” and using kids as drug mules about other things regarding children. Things came to a head when Brennan delivered a dubious fact-check overlooking how the asylum process was being abused by illegal immigrants. Vance spoke up to lay out the real facts of how the system was being manipulated, ultimately leading to O’Donnell to cutting off his microphone (Click “expand”): BRENNAN: Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status. Norah. VANCE: Margaret. BRENNAN: Senator, we have so much to get to. VANCE: Margaret, I think it’s important. O’DONNELL: We are going to turn now to the economy. Thank you. VANCE: The rules were that you guys were not going to fact-check. And since you’re fact-checking me, I think it's important to say what's actually going on. So, there is an application called the CBP1 app, were you can go as an illegal migrant, apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand. It's not a person coming in and applying for a green card and waiting for ten years. BRENNAN: Thank you, Senator. VANCE: That is the facilitation of illegal immigration, Margaret, by our own leadership. BRENNAN: Thank you for describing the legal process. We have so much to get to, senator. VANCE: And Kamala Harris opened up that pathway. Gov. TIM WALZ (D-MN): Those laws have been on the books since 1990. BRENNAN: Thank you, gentlemen. VANCE: The CBP1 app has not been on the books since 1990. [O’Donnell cuts microphone] It’s something that Kamala Harris created, Margaret. BRENNAN: Gentlemen. The audience can't hear you because your mics are cut. We have so much we want to get to. Thank you for explaining the legal process.     On top of the false fact checks came the slanted questions. According to NewsBusters analysts, there were 12 questions with a left-leaning slant, 16 neutral, and five from the right. One of the right-leaning questions was a rather pointed on from O’Donnell to Walz about why Americans trust Trump on the most important issue of the election. “Governor Walz, can you address that? I mean, voters say they trust Donald Trump on the economy more. Why?” she asked. She also pointed out that a majority of Americans agreed with Trump’s calls for mass deportations: “Governor, what about our CBS News polling which does show that a majority of Americans, more than 50 percent support mass deportations?” Of course, several of the left-leaning questions were largely about painting a possible Trump presidency in as negative a light as possible with the most ridiculous and dystopian accusations: BRENNAN: Senator, the question was, “with you separate appearance from their children even if their kids are U.S. citizens?” (…) O’DONNELL: Senator, do you want to respond to the Governor’s claim? Will you create a federal pregnancy monitoring agency? And they repeatedly tried to drive a wedge between Vance and Trump, something that wasn’t done for Walz and Vice President Harris: BRENNAN: Senator Vance, the U.S. did have a diplomatic deal with Iran to temporarily pause parts of its nuclear program and President Trump did exit that deal. He recently said, just five days ago, the U.S. must now make a diplomatic deal with Iran because the consequences are impossible. Did he make a mistake? (…) BRENNAN: President Trump recently said "As much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it's - relatively speaking - not very expensive compared to the kinds of numbers we'll be taking in." Is President Trump committed to the $5,000-per child tax credit that you have described? And just because a question was neutral didn’t mean it wasn’t combative. Like this sharky question from Brennan to Vance asking if he knew how Congress worked: The Governor has made the point and I think as a sitting lawmaker, you know that Congress controls the purse strings and funding. So, you have said repeatedly that Donald Trump would, through executive action, solve this. Do you disagree that Congress controls the purse strings and would need to support many of the changes that you would actually want to implement? But despite essentially going up against three opponents much like Trump did, Vance still seemed to have pulled off a W.

JD Vance hammers Tim Walz on immigration, energy policy, and the economy in lively but civil VP debate

The vice presidential candidates battled it out in a debate from New York City on Tuesday evening, and Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio gave Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz a civilized beat down. Many noted that the moderators, "CBS Evening News" anchor Norah O'Donnell and "Face the Nation" host Margaret Brennan, fact-checked Vance while allowing Walz far more leeway. 'You've got to defend Kamala Harris' atrocious economic record, which has made gas, groceries, and housing unaffordable for American citizens.' Vance appeared to use his time to attack the policies of the Biden-Harris administration while taking jabs at Walz. He really unleashed his rhetorical prowess while discussing the crisis at the border and the streaming in of illegal aliens and illicit drugs. "For three years, Kamala Harris went out bragging that she was going to undo Donald Trump's border policies," said Vance. "She did exactly that. We had a record number of illegal crossings. We had a record number of fentanyl coming into our country, and now that she's running for president, she says she's got religion." Walz was asked to explain why he lied about being in China during the Tiananmen Square protests, and he rambled about his bucolic childhood before saying that he had simply been a "knucklehead" at times. Vance also battered the Democrats on the poor state of the economy, a sore point for American voters. "You've got a tough job here. You've got to pretend that Donald Trump didn't deliver rising take-home pay, which of course he did," said Vance at one point in the debate. "You've got to pretend that Donald Trump didn't deliver lower inflation, which of course he did," he continued. "And then you've got to defend Kamala Harris' atrocious economic record, which has made gas, groceries, and housing unaffordable for American citizens." At one point, Vance interrupted the moderators and took over the debate after he was fact-checked despite the agreement that moderators would avoid doing so. Vance and Walz butted heads on abortion, especially as it relates to Minnesota's far-left policies. Walz denied claims from Vance that laws in the state allow doctors to ignore babies who survive abortions and let them die. The vice presidential contest was the last scheduled debate before the election. Here's BlazeTV coverage of the VP debate: Like Blaze News?
