METI: The Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence Has A Highly Controversial Twin

For over a century, humanity has attempted to search for signals from alien civilizations out there in the universe. Early efforts in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) focused on listening for messages from within the Solar System, before turning our eyes and ears to the galaxy and universe beyond. So far, these searches have yielded no alien signals. One signal continues to defy explanation, but in all probability has a natural or human cause. But is it unfair to assume that alien civilizations would broadcast, given that we (apart from our stray signals) do not regularly broadcast ourselves?Enter METI, or Messaging to Extraterrestrial Intelligence. It is not fair to say that humanity has not sent out any messages to the universe, but they have certainly been limited. NASA's Voyager I and Voyager II probes contain the Golden Records, containing sounds and images "selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth". These will likely never be found by aliens. But we have sent other signals, such as the Arecibo Message sent to the globular star cluster M13 roughly 21,000 light-years from Earth. The message was tiny at 210 bytes of data, but contained information including that there were 4 billion humans on Earth at the time, a stick figure of a human being, a representation of a double helix, and a drawing of the Arecibo radio telescope that sent the message. In 2015, the group METI International emerged, with the ultimate goal of sending out messages that will reach alien civilizations. In October 2017, they sent such a message to potentially habitable super-Earth exoplanet GJ273b, just 19 light-years from Earth. Here's where METI gets a little controversial. The Arecibo message also contained a map of the Solar System, and there are (highly speculative) reasons why we might not want to contact aliens at all, let alone include a return address, or contact aliens in our cosmic backyard. One reason why METI is controversial is what has become broadly known as the "Dark Forest Hypothesis" explanation of the Fermi Paradox.        In short, the universe appears to be teeming with potentially habitable planets, and yet we have never detected a signal that has come from an alien civilization. The particularly dark Dark Forest Hypothesis – outlined in Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy – proposes that alien civilizations keep their existences hidden, as you can never know the intentions of other civilizations. They could be hostile or benevolent, and you have no way of knowing which – or what their intentions are. Say you are a friendly civilization, and you discover an alien civilization that unbeknownst to you is also friendly, and roughly on par with yours in terms of development. While you know you are friendly, you do not know if they too are peaceful. What's worse, given the expanse of space and the time it takes to receive light and signals from such civilizations, you cannot know how their society will progress in the intervening time between when the signal from that civilization reached yours. In the interim, they could have progressed incredible amounts technologically, meaning that even if the planet you are viewing looked peaceful and not far in advance of your own, by the time the light reaches you that all could have changed. There is also the added pressure of resources. You also know from your own planet (according to the books) that life spreads and uses as many resources as are available to it, but the resources in the universe are finite. Say that you conclude that they are peaceful, you are still left with the challenge that you don't know that they know that you are peaceful. If they think, or even suspect, that you are malicious, it would make sense that they would attempt to destroy you before you could do the same to them. You could communicate with them – like here on Earth – to further reassure them of your intentions. But in space terms, your new message could take hundreds or thousands of years to arrive, and in the meantime they could have launched an attack to destroy you. With such a chain of suspicion, Liu concludes, the only logical step for a civilization that values survival is to stay quiet in the forest, and destroy those civilizations that cry out, before they do the same to you. Though popularized by fiction, hostile aliens are an idea taken seriously by scientists. In 2015, while launching a project to listen out for alien civilizations, Stephen Hawking explained why it's probably best not to say hello back."We don't know much about aliens, but we know about humans," Hawking said at the event, per Space.com. "If you look at history, contact between humans and less intelligent organisms have often been disastrous from their point of view, and encounters between civilizations with advanced versus primitive technologies have gone badly for the less advanced. A civilization reading one of our messages could be billions of years ahead of us. If so, they will be vastly more powerful, and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria."The Dark Forest hypothesis is so very far from confirmed, but hostile aliens are still something to bear in mind when deciding whether or not to contact other species, and who should hold that decision. American author and scientist David Brin, for example, questioned "whether small groups of zealots should bypass all institutions, peer critique, risk appraisal or public opinion, to shout 'yoohoo' into a potentially hazardous cosmos."In a way, the existence of METI could be used to argue against the Dark Forest Hypothesis. Say there are highly advanced civilizations out there. It's a reasonable assumption to say that some portion of the populations of these advanced civilizations could have access to advanced broadcast technology. Another reasonable assumption is that if they had become that advanced, they would have achieved this civilization using science rather than magic. Unless for some reason the civilizations are just not interested in life outside their planet, they'd likely compile information on other star systems just as we do. So assuming that access to this information and broadcast technology isn't limited civilization-wide somehow, surely there would be a certain foolhardy proportion of the population who would attempt to contact other civilizations. While obviously speculating wildly, you could imagine scenarios where an especially risk-taking alien METI could attempt to warn other younger civilizations about the Dark Forest nature of the universe. We haven't heard from these actors either, which you could say implies there is a different explanation for the great silence than the Dark Forest Hypothesis.Or perhaps the METI problem only happens in young civilizations who broadcast intermittently, before we have learned the dark forest nature of the universe, and do everything we can to stay quiet.

Attempts To Hack The Climate In The US Could Have Unintended Consequences For Europe

A new study has warned of risks posed by unregulated geoengineering techniques designed to lower high temperatures in specific areas. These efforts may only provide temporary benefits for some populations while introducing negative impacts for other parts of the world. In order to meet the goals set by the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, countries around the world will need to embrace various approaches. This will likely include a mixture of greenhouse gas emissions reduction techniques, and carbon dioxide removal, as well as what is called solar geoengineering. This latter approach involves deliberately cooling the planet by reflecting more sunlight back into space. For instance, a technique known as marine cloud brightening increases reflectivity of certain clouds so that they can bounce sunlight back into space. The hope among its advocates is that this will help offset some impacts of climate change. One way to achieve this is by seeding naturally occurring sea salt into clouds, which is also amenable to regional applications since it can be deployed in the lower troposphere over a localized area. And this is where the challenge comes in.According to a new study, targeted interventions in one place may have unforeseen consequences for other parts of the world. This situation is made worse because there are currently few, if any, regulations to oversee and scrutinize regional applications of specific techniques. As climate change becomes more disruptive, it is possible more countries will seek local options – like marine cloud brightening – to help their own populations, especially as global schemes are often fraught with challenges. But because there are few relevant regulations, it is possible cities, companies, or even wealthy individuals could try to modify their local climates. The rise in heatwaves across the world has led some research institutions and private companies to investigate geoengineering options. For instance, over the last four years, Australia has been trialing marine cloud brightening techniques that may help cool the Great Barrier Reef, thereby slowing coral bleaching.  According to the new study, the effect of cloud brightening techniques may well diminish or even reverse as climate conditions continue to shift due to human causes, such as the continued use of fossil fuels. As the authors say, “the effects of regional schemes – which have been little researched so far – may prove much more difficult to predict than global ones because concentrated, rather than diffuse, forcings are more likely to trigger nonlinear climate responses.”The team used Earth system computer models of the climate in 2010 and 2050 and compared simulations of two cloud brightening initiatives. The initiatives, which were carried out to reduce the impacts of severe heat, took place in different regions of the northeastern Pacific Ocean, one near California and one near Alaska. The simulation for 2010 indicated that cloud brightening near Alaska, a mid-latitude area, would lower the risk of dangerous summer heat exposure by 55 percent, while the scheme near California, a subtropical area, would result in a more modest 16 percent reduction. However, the simulations for 2050, which take into account the turbulent conditions introduced by ongoing climate change, produced far more worrying results. Because there were fewer clouds, as well as a higher base temperature and the gradual slowing of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), the initiative in Alaska did not have the same impact as it did in the 2010 simulation, while the initiative for California actually raised temperatures, achieving the opposite result. At the same time, the mid-century simulations showed that local attempts to cool the climate increased temperatures and stresses across the world, especially in Europe. This was because of the slowing of the AMOC.In effect, cloud brightening may have some local benefits now, but as time goes on the impacts will become less predictable and much more damaging for other places.“Unintended side effects of [solar engineering] remain one of the strongest concerns about any future deployment, regional or otherwise,” the researchers explain.“An examination of the complex mechanisms that make this remote intervention effective at regional cooling under present-day conditions, but ineffective under warmer mid-century conditions, illustrates the challenges scientists and decision makers will face if climate risk management proposals such as [marine cloud brightening] remain largely ungoverned, as they are today.”The current research may underestimate the extent to which future cloud brightening interventions could cause unexpected responses as the background climate state continues to change. What may appear promising at a regional level could well result in drastic issues elsewhere if they cannot be regulated or managed properly. The study is published in Nature Climate Change.

What Happens When The Body Overheats?

What Happens When The Body Overheats?

The heatwave currently gripping parts of the US is only the latest in a chain of sweltering temperatures that have hit regions across the globe, and with this trend, the realities of heat-related illness are becoming all too real. Not only is the extreme heat causing problems in the animal world, but it’s affecting humans too; recent heatwaves have caused deaths across Europe, India, and Saudi Arabia. One way the human body tries to cope with the heat is by sweating – but what happens when that isn’t enough?Heat exhaustion“People often talk about heat exhaustion and heat stroke as though they are separate things. But they exist on a spectrum from not-so-serious to a significant and life-threatening emergency,” Dr Thomas Waters, an emergency medicine physician, explained in a Cleveland Clinic Health Essentials post.Heat exhaustion sits somewhere in the middle – though it can progress to the more dangerous heatstroke if left untreated. The main initial sign of heat exhaustion is excessive sweating, a last-ditch attempt to cool the body down through the evaporation of sweat from the skin. This is triggered by the hypothalamus, a small region in the brain that regulates body temperature. Using the nervous system, it sends signals to the sweat glands, which respond by amping up sweat production. But in heat exhaustion, this isn’t enough to keep the body cool, and its core temperature can reach between 38.3 to 40°C (101 to 104°F). At this stage of sweating, it also becomes difficult to replace all of the fluids and electrolytes lost, which can lead to dehydration and some of the other symptoms of the illness. For example, the body needs minerals such as sodium and potassium for sending nerve signals, proper muscle function, and maintaining the balance of fluid and blood volume. If those important electrolytes aren’t replaced, that can lead to an increased heart rate to try and make up for lower blood volume, muscle cramps, dizziness, and weakness.Nausea and vomiting can also by symptoms of heat exhaustion as, like sweating, it’s a way of getting rid of something in the body that holds on to heat. “Not only are these signs of heat exhaustion, but they can also make it difficult to recover from heat exhaustion when you are trying to rehydrate,” said Isabel Valdez, physician assistant and assistant professor of general internal medicine in a Baylor College of Medicine press release.HeatstrokeIf heat exhaustion is left untreated, or the body is unable to cool down within 30 minutes, then it can progress to a potentially life-threatening condition called heatstroke. At this point, the body is no longer able to control its temperature, which can rapidly rise above 40°C (104°F) – though contrary to popular belief, people don’t always stop sweating at this point.“Clinically, heatstroke is characterized by central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction, multiorgan failure, and extreme hyperthermia (usually >40.5°C [105°F]),” write the authors of a review on the condition. In terms of the CNS – aka the brain and spinal cord – that can manifest itself in noticeable signs like confusion, slurred speech, loss of consciousness, or seizures. That’s because the brain is extremely sensitive to overheating, with the excessive temperatures causing damage to its cells, which can cause them to become dysfunctional or die. This can be fatal, or leave survivors with permanent, disabling damage.Problems with the CNS can lead to issues with other organs in heatstroke, but another big contributor to the multiorgan failure seen is a massive stress response from the immune system. Quite how the process works is unclear, but the reaction from the immune system to overheating is a body-wide inflammatory response. Under other circumstances, a healthy level of inflammation is good for fighting off infection or helping injuries to heal; but in this case, the response is excessive to the point it can cause serious damage, with consequences like kidney, liver, or heart dysfunction or even failure.Treating heat-related illnessWith heat exhaustion, it’s important to get out of the heat as soon as possible, then take off any unnecessary clothing, rehydrate (both cool water and sports drinks can be good for this), and cool the skin using things such as cold packs, sprayed or sponged water, and fans. This can be done wherever the person with symptoms happens to be.However, heatstroke is classed as a medical emergency and as such, emergency services should be called.“It can become deadly very quickly. Heat stroke isn’t something you can just push through, no matter how strong you are,” said Dr Waters. “The most important thing you can do is pay attention to the warning signs and listen to your body.”All “explainer” articles are confirmed by fact checkers to be correct at time of publishing. Text, images, and links may be edited, removed, or added to at a later date to keep information current.  The content of this article is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Gay Morning America: Queer Christians Finding Acceptance

During Monday Morning’s “Out Loud” segment of ABC's Good Morning America, Reporter Steve Osunsami talked about the intersection of pride and religion noting that some churches are becoming “more inclusive.” “Surveys continue to show that are more Americans who are lesbian, gay, lgbtq+, who are religious, than many people would think,” Osunsami cheered. The segment cut to a clip from the “I Tried To Be Straight Podcast” where hosts meet with “former church kids who are Christian and queer,” Osunasami noted  “the emotional conversations they’re bringing to their podcasts are happening in churches across the country.” Osunasami brought up the recent move by United Methodist Churches this spring ending its ban on clergy who are part of the alphabet mob and recognizing homosexual marriage to be legitimate within the biblical constructs of marriage. “We are claiming that we are a church where everyone belongs,” Bishop Tracy Malone said in a clip played by GMA which also highlighted a study that found that “nearly half of queer adults in the U.S. are religious.” Malone, in a video interview with Osunsami, said that “what has changed is, number one, there have been more understanding around human sexuality and people [are] coming into a greater understanding of science and how that relates to how, you know, persons are born. That it’s not a choice for people.” Uhh. False. While the sinful struggle of being attracted to the same sex may be something people are “born with,” the choice to disobey the biblical teachings on sex and gender is an active decision. The sin isn’t the temptation, even Jesus, a perfect human, was tempted. The sin, according to the Bible, is the act and churches should not  allow, endorse and encourage said sinful acts. GMA brought in Asya Coles, a “young, queer black person” who’s trying to become a minister and is currently with a group called “Pride in the Pews.” The group works to “provide black faith leaders with the tools and resources to create more affirming environments,” the group’s founder and executive director said. The group goes into churches to essentially train black faith leaders on how to help their congregation be more accepting of LGBTQness in the church. Coles noted that “God has me” and she just wants Him to love her. And he does! God loves despite sin but also wants His believers to follow the truths of scripture and repent when we fall short, not seek out people who affirm our sinful actions. To conclude the screed on the intersection of "pride" and religion, Osunsami, noted that this does not come “without controversy.” By some estimates, more than a million Methodists have left the Methodist church over some of these changes. On the other side of this coin, guys, there are many religious Americans who say that they’re walking away from their church because they feel that their ministry is too hostile towards gay and lesbian people. To end the GMA clip of virtue signaling and pride propaganda, GMA hosts said “what a powerful and important story.” Cringe.

Democratic judge already facing removal over ethics violations arrested after allegedly attacking cop

Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson faced 30 counts of ethics violations and a likely ouster by the Georgia Supreme Court when voters rejected her last month. On Thursday, things got a whole lot worse for the scandal-plagued Democrat. The Atlanta Police Department indicated that around 3:18 a.m. on June 20, a police officer working an approved security gig had an unfortunate encounter with the 38-year-old judge. Upon hearing a commotion outside the nearby Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge on Peachtree Road, the officer went over to investigate and observed security escorting a woman out of the venue. According to police, when the officer attempted to help de-escalate the situation, Peterson "rushed toward the commotion and immediately started screaming at the security guard and the officer." The officer continued helping security escort the woman out, at which point the 140-pound judge allegedly pushed the officer in the chest and attempted to interfere with the removal effort. After Peterson allegedly attacked the officer once more, he placed her under arrest. The arresting officer's bodycam footage shows Peterson's wig go flying prior to the officer handcuffing her and marching her away from the mob. Peterson's trip to jail was apparently delayed by Peterson's refusal to cooperate or identify herself. She can be heard cussing out the arresting officer at the station and telling him to "shut the f*** up." Fulton County Jail records indicated Peterson was charged with simple battery against a police officer as well as with felony willful obstruction of law enforcement officers by use of threats or violence. Peterson provided an alternative account of what happened on her Instagram, noting, "This was a setup." "Officer initially claimed he was charging me with disorderly conduct, all for trying to help a woman who was being attacked by men then took me to jail and I found out I'm being charged with a felony now," wrote Peterson. "Officer slammed me to the ground for helping this woman but let the attacker get away." "They will stop at nothing to tarnish my character," added the Democratic judge. Prior to her arrest on Thursday, Peterson's character was already well tarnished. She has demonstrated a 'steadfast unwillingness to accept moral accountability.' After conducting an investigation into allegations of misconduct against Peterson, the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission indicated in its Sept. 28, 2021, court filing regarding formal charges that the Democrat "has repeatedly violated the Code of Judicial Conduct by failing to establish, maintain, and enforce high standards of conduct, failing to personally observe such standards of conduct so that the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the judiciary may be preserved, and failing to respect and comply with the law." The director of the commission indicated in March 2024 that Peterson faced thirty counts regarding ten episodes of alleged misconduct. Peterson is accused of improper social media posts; improper contact with represented parties during litigation; flouting courthouse security protocols to conduct a wedding after hours; obstructing access to public court records; "abusive interactions with a fellow judge and other county officials"; unnecessarily holding a woman in contempt and giving her the maximum jail sentence simply for trying to amend her marriage certificate; routine backdating of orders; "exhibiting judicial incompetence, administrative mismanagement, and indifference relating to a petition for year's support and letters of administration;" and of "systemic judicial incompetence." "She has demonstrated a 'steadfast unwillingness to accept moral accountability' in nearly all the episodes of misconduct," concluded the commission's hearing panel's report. The three-person hearing panel unanimously agreed that Peterson should be removed. The final decision regarding Peterson's removal is up to the Georgia Supreme Court, which will make its determination at a later date. Voters, however, simplified matters in the May 21 Democratic primary. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Peterson's successful primary challenger Valerie Vie will run unopposed in the November general election. Fulton County commissioner Marvin Arrington Jr. indicated he is representing Peterson in her new criminal case, reported WAGA-TV. Arrington told reporters, "Based on eyewitnesses and the female victim, we believe the videos will confirm that Judge Peterson should not have been arrested." Like Blaze News? Andrew Cuomo calls NY case against Trump politically motivated: 'Playing politics with the justice system'

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) recently stated that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's case against former President Donald Trump was politically motivated, The Hill reported.Last year, Bragg filed 34 felony counts of falsifying business records against Trump, arguing that the former president had tried to conceal a so-called hush-money payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels, who claimed the two had an affair. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges and denied Daniels' allegations. In May, a jury of Manhattan residents found Trump guilty on all counts.'You want to talk about a threat to democracy.'During a Friday appearance on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," the disgraced former governor said, "If his name was not Donald Trump and if he wasn't running for president ... I'm the former AG of in New York, [and] I'm telling you that case would've never been brought.""That's what is offensive to people, and it should be because if there's anything left, it's belief in the justice system," Cuomo remarked."And you want to talk about a threat to democracy: When you have this country believing you're playing politics with the justice system and you're trying to put people in jail or convict them for political reasons, then we have a real problem," he added.Trump's legal team plans to file an appeal. His attorney Todd Blanche explained that they had expected the guilty verdict."We didn't think we were gonna get a fair shake in Manhattan, and we didn't," Blanche stated.Bragg's prosecution team recently requested to have the gag order against Trump extended, citing 61 alleged threats made by others against Bragg, his family, or employees. The new filing, signed by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Colangelo, stated that nothing stops Trump from "broadly criticizing the verdict, the criminal proceeding, the District Attorney, this court and more — and indeed, defendant has engaged in a flood of such criticisms both during the trial and after the guilty verdict."Prosecutors accused Trump of making "categorically false accusations," including that Bragg and his team are attempting to "restrict the defendant's speech at an upcoming presidential debate." The filing stated that Trump's claim has "no factual basis" and is "a lie," NBC News reported."These knowing falsehoods are just the latest examples of defendant's patent disrespect for the rule of law and the impartial administration of justice," Bragg's team wrote. "As defendant's continued conduct makes clear, the need to protect participants in this criminal proceeding and the integrity of the criminal justice process from defendant's attacks remains critically important."Colangelo previously held a senior role at the Biden administration's Department of Justice before he effectively took a demotion to join Bragg's office in December 2022. House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland a couple of months ago stating that Colangelo's appointment to Bragg's office has "given the perception that the Justice Department is assisting in" the DA's "politicized prosecution" of Trump.Like Blaze News? WATCH: Viral resurfaced clip from 2020 may be the wokest thing in existence: 'Your son’s tumor is caused by racism.'

2020 – the height of the everything is racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. mentality – produced some utterly ludicrous ideas, but none so ludicrous as what was pitched by the creators of NBC’s “New Amsterdam,” which thankfully ended in 2023. Dave Rubin plays what will inevitably go down in history as the wokest moment on television. Resurfaced Clip from 2020 May Be the Funniest ‘Woke’ TV Ever Made youtu.be In what can only be described as sickeningly melodramatic, a doctor speaks to a worried mother whose son is suffering from some kind of tumor. “Your son – he feels threatened on a daily basis, like everything he's earned can just be taken away. He’s disenfranchised, but because his life is seemingly free from all this, because he can’t name it, he’s internalizing it…I think your son’s tumor is caused by racism,” the doctor sighs. “I can’t imagine why that show was canceled!” laughs Dave, adding that the clip is bizarrely “making the rounds now” despite being filmed four years ago. PragerU’s Xaviaer DuRousseau equates watching the clip to “cyanide poisoning.” “I am just so repulsed by that show,” he says. “To make it seem like, oh, because people hurt your feelings, now you have cancer … it’s like can we please be serious? Like that’s more unserious than Fauci trying to tell us about COVID.” “There’s nothing that sells more in this country than victim bingo.” To see NBC’s viral segment and have a good laugh, watch the clip above. Actor Ed O'Neill tells amazing story connecting his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the lunar landing in 1969

Celebrated comedic actor Ed O'Neill revealed what happened the day he left the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969.Before O'Neill was the star of hit TV shows "Modern Family" and "Married... with Children," he was a professional athlete for a short time in the 1960s.The actor attended Ohio University on an athletic scholarship before transferring to Youngstown State University to play as a defensive lineman from 1967 to 1968.Following his college tenure, he signed a professional contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969 but was cut during training camp.On the "Games with Names" podcast with NFL legend Julian Edelman, O'Neill revealed that he had a memorable day after leaving the team."This was not too long after I got cut. So I was packing up. I thought, I don't want to go home and have to explain this. I knew a friend in Pittsburgh. So I said I am going to Pittsburgh. And I had this rudimentary idea of where my friend lived. I directed [a cab driver] up a street and saw a bar. I said right here, my friend lives right around that bar. Just drop me off here," O'Neill recalled.'You sure you want to do this? You know, we could just get in the car and get out of here.'The actor who played Al Bundy soon realized that the lunar landing had just happened."So I went in the bar. It was like 2:00 in the afternoon. I order a beer. The news comes on, and they are showing Armstrong walking on the moon. And I am thinking, at least someone had a good day. And then they went to the sports. Of course, it’s Pittsburgh. So they go, 'Linebacker Ed O'Neill released today from the Steelers.'"Patrons at the bar realized he was indeed the NFL player on the television and bought him rounds of drinks. It wasn't until 3:00 a.m. that O'Neill mentally checked back in when he was pulled over in a car with a female companion."[The cop] said, 'Did you get cut from Pittsburgh today?' I said 'yep,' and he let me go."The 78-year-old also spoke about his tryout with the Steelers with radio host Rich Eisen in 2016."[Training camp] actually went pretty good," O'Neill told the host, per CBS. "My father drove me down ... to St. Vincent's College ... and when we walked down the stairs and saw all the guys milling around, my father said to me, 'You sure you want to do this? You know, we could just get in the car and get out of here.'""I actually enjoyed it, and my problem was that I had never played [outside linebacker] before. So I was trying to learn it and make the team at the same time."The former Steeler said that he lasted two weeks before he got the word that he was cut from the coach, who apparently said he might be a fit for the Philadelphia Eagles."I think he said I could go to the Eagles. ... He said, 'I can make a call.'"However, O'Neill said at that point he was "sick of football" and passed on the opportunity.O'Neill's first acting credit, according to IMDB, is the 1980 film "Cruising" starring Al Pacino. The film's synopsis is as follows:"A police officer goes undercover in the underground S&M gay subculture of New York City to catch a serial killer who is preying on gay men."O'Neill's character on "Married... with Children" often cited his time as a high school football star, consistently referencing scoring "four touchdowns in a single game."Like Blaze News?
