Truckers file lawsuit to carry guns across state lines

Two truckers have filed a lawsuit challenging Minnesota’s gun laws, saying the state won’t let them carry their firearms as they drive its roads, even though they’re legally licensed to publicly carry their weapons in their home states. Minnesota does have reciprocity with 20 states, but doesn’t recognize permits from others, including gun-friendly states such as Texas, Florida and Georgia. Residents of those states must obtain a Minnesota-specific permit, leave their weapons inoperable...

Grooming gang victims need a new statutory inquiry

Calls for a statutory inquiry into grooming gangs have been opposed by some on the grounds that the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) has already been held. The argument goes that since the flagship report on child sexual abuse was accompanied with a smaller one on child sexual exploitation (CSE) by organised networks, there have been enough inquiries.

Is bird flu the next pandemic? What to know after the first H5N1 death in the US

With reports of the first human death from bird flu in the US, some Americans are feeling an uncomfortable flashback to the early days of Covid-19, when infectious disease experts were talking about a new virus that was sending people to the hospital with respiratory infections. Although both viruses can cause breathing problems, they are very different. Covid was spreading easily from person to person when it arrived in the US in 2020, but bird flu has been lurking for years, mostly as a...

US Justice Department accuses six major landlords of scheming to keep rents high

The US Justice Department is suing several large landlords for allegedly coordinating to keep Americans’ rents high by using both an algorithm to help set rents and privately sharing sensitive information with their competitors to boost profits. The lawsuit arrives as US renters continue to struggle under a merciless housing market, with incomes failing to keep up with rent increases. The latest figures show that half of American renters spent more than 30% of their income on rent and...

Norse Giant Names: Unveiling the Jötnar of Norse Mythology

Introduction: The Mystique of Norse Giants Giants, or jötnar, are some of the most enigmatic figures in Norse mythology. Often depicted as both the enemies and allies of gods, their stories weave a complex tapestry of creation, destruction, and cosmic balance. But who were these mighty beings? This article explores Norse giant names, their meanings, and their roles in Norse legends, giving you an in-depth understanding of their legacy. Understanding Norse mythology provides a window into the daily lives and traditions of the Vikings, from their mythical tales to cultural practices like what kind of candy Vikings ate. Who Were the Giants in Norse Mythology? The giants, or jötnar, were a primordial race in Norse mythology. They represented the untamed forces of nature—frost, fire, and wilderness. Despite their antagonistic relationship with the gods, they were integral to the cosmos, often interacting with the Æsir and Vanir. Many famous figures from Norse giant names, like Ymir and Surtr, played pivotal roles in shaping the Norse universe. Giants and mythical creatures like Jörmungandr played an integral role in Norse mythology, much like other Viking mythical animals. Enemies of the Gods The jötnar were often seen as the adversaries of the Æsir and Vanir, waging battles that shaped Norse cosmology. Legends featuring Norse giant names, such as Thor’s battles with Hrungnir, exemplify the eternal struggle between order and chaos. Construction Company Apologizes For AC/DC Home Demolition

An Australian construction company has apologized to AC/DC fans after mistakenly demolishing the childhood home of guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young (pictured above). The house in the Sydney suburb of Burwood — where the Young brothers lived from 1965 to AC/DC’s formation in 1973 — was previously listed on the National Trust Register of Historic Houses. The Burwood Council admitted that the National Trust distinction had “no statutory authority” and “the property does not have enforceable protections.”  The house was sold to developers in 2023 and in late December, the structure was razed as part of a larger residential deal. The Burwood home had become a gathering place for AC/DC fans.  “We regret that the previous long-term owner did not share this vital part of the property’s background with us,” general manager Leon Kmita said. “We now recognize how deeply this location resonates with the AC/DC community and fans worldwide.”  The construction company pledged to salvage materials from the demolished house and create a space for AC/DC fans. ### The post Construction Company Apologizes For AC/DC Home Demolition appeared first on RockinTown.
