Father Spends A Year Transforming His Backyard Into Daughter’s Dream Wedding Site & The The Big Day Is Stunning

Many brides begin to dream about their wedding when they are little girls. They have every detail worked out for their special day. From a beautiful white dress to gorgeous bouquets and the perfect spot to say “I do,” some brides want it all. When her boyfriend, Brandon, proposed, Madi Proz knew she wanted to have her fairytale celebration at her childhood home. Her father wasted no time getting the home and the grounds perfect for his daughter’s wedding. View this post on Instagram A post shared by mads ♪ (@madiproz) Madi shared a video of her dad painstakingly working in the home on Instagram with the caption, “Dad has not stopped for the last year. Getting married in my childhood home was truly a dream come true and would not have happened without all his hard work. Beyond grateful for him.” The video is a montage of her dad mowing, cleaning, painting, and building to create a venue of any bride’s dreams. The space is nothing if not picturesque and lush and 100% her father’s handiwork. There is no question that it was a labor of love, and people couldn’t get enough of it. The Father’s Wedding Efforts Went Viral The home was beautiful already, but Madi’s dad put in the work. Someone wrote, “With that property and THAT view, he could have definitely afforded to hire people to do all that. But he didn’t. He wanted to do it for his daughter. She is so loved.” Others want to adopt him. Like this person, who wrote, “He’s a communal dad now, and this video is our take-a-book-leave-a-book of childhood dreams come true.” This woman lost her dad but loved Madi’s video. “Stop it. I no longer have my dad, my little brother will be walking me down the aisle in a few months. Girls who still have their dads, and dads like THIS are beyond blessed.” Congratulations Madi and Brandon. Sir, with a father-in-law like that, you have a lot to live up to, but we have a feeling you’re up to the challenge. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Pete Kennedy of The Kennedys: 10 Albums That Changed My Life

The Kennedys, an illustrious American folk-rock duo composed of Pete and Maura Kennedy, have etched a profound mark on the music scene with their harmonious vocals and masterful command of multiple instruments. Infusing their sound with elements of country, bluegrass, Western swing, and jangle pop, they began their musical journey in the early 1990s as part of Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra. It was during this time that they not only honed their craft but also deeply embedded themselves in the fabric of folk-rock music while touring extensively across America and the British Isles. Their collaboration with Griffith was more The post Pete Kennedy of The Kennedys: 10 Albums That Changed My Life appeared first on ClassicRockHistory.com.

Critical Race Theory Organizers Plot Their Return to the Classroom

Critical Race Theory Organizers Plot Their Return to the Classroom

The top practitioners of critical race theory just held a weeklong “summer school” in Nashville, Tennessee, to strategize, assess the movement, and debate how best to proselytize the next generation. It was an instructive six days of revolutionary agitprop. Two things immediately stood out. The first is that, yes, despite its protestations to the contrary, the architects of CRT know they must focus intently on those who participate in the teaching profession. If CRT is a tool to be used for “revolutionizing a culture,” as its intellectual godfather, Derrick Bell, once put it, it must be implemented by teachers starting in K-12 and through graduate school. K-12 teachers, along with students at all levels, were given special ticket prices to the CRT conference at a deep discount, as my colleague and friend Jonathan Butcher pointed out. K-12 principals also were given a special package, though at a smaller discount.  The other unmistakable takeaway is that CRT practitioners are aghast at the resistance they have encountered. The public, parents in particular, saw the attempted takeover of their cultural institutions that gathered speed four years ago and fought against it, much to the chagrin of the CRT elite and their followers. And the summer school was indeed organized by the elite most wounded by popular rejection. It was led by Kimberle Crenshaw, a law professor at Columbia and UCLA. She is not just one of the key founders of the movement, but actually gave CRT its name at the discipline’s founding conference in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1989. Crenshaw also invented the concept of “intersectionality,” by which the CRT founders mean that people can be discriminated against based on different attributes—their race, gender, able status, etc. Also on hand to teach CRT was Cheryl Harris, another CRT founder and also a law professor at UCLA; Gloria Ladson-Billings, who perhaps has done more than anyone else to spread CRT’s ideas among the teaching profession; and Michael Eric Dyson, whose accomplishments do not equal those of the other three, but who’s much better known by the public because of his repeated media appearances. All in all, 40 academics, some very well known, were advertised to appear. These CRT summer schools started in the long hot summer of 2020, when the whole country was aflame in the Black Lives Matter riots. It looked to the CRT folks then that the world was their oyster, as many leaders of cultural institutions were ready to surrender and accept many CRT principles. But the oyster has gone bad and begun to stink up the room. In 2020, the summer school organizers saw the moment as a “great opportunity.” Those who led this year’s summer school, however, regard the present moment with a growing sense of dread. In their triumphant 2020 announcement, the summer school organizers proclaimed that “the enduring racial inequalities laid bare by the casual murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery … have loosened the grip of colorblindness as the officially sanctioned anecdote to persistent racial injustice.” The 2020 summer school was held “to capture the significance of this opportunity.” One must hasten to explain that, though most people think colorblindness is very much a good thing and an aspirational goal, it is anathema to CRT. CRT is a body of work that depicts racism not as an individual act or attitude, but as a “systemic” problem. Racism, it preaches, is embedded in the ordinary business of society, and keeps the oppressor group (whites, males, Christians, heterosexuals, but also Jews, Asian Americans, or anyone else that generally meets with success) in power and wealth, while keeping members of victim groups subjugated. To reverse this dynamic—a goal derived entirely from Marxian concepts—CRT practitioners believe that government and industry must pursue color-conscious action. Contrast the optimism in the summer of 2020 with this year’s foreboding summer school. The description to this year’s opening plenary meeting on July 28 said, “Our kick off plenary for CRT Summer School focuses on Tennessee ?as the ‘tip of the spear’ for the nationwide backlash against racial ?justice and democracy.” Every session revolved around this idea. As Crenshaw said to radio host Kaye Wise Whitehead in a video advertising the event, “We started this in the middle of the summer of reckoning, recognizing that critical concepts, like structural racism and implicit bias and intersectionality were all part of the mobilization that we saw in 50 states across the country, demanding accountability. Well, now we are at a point where the backlash against 2020, the backlash against racial justice, has taken the form of suppressing our right to learn, our right to know, our books.” All of that is hyperbolic, of course. Many, many people have developed antibodies against the attempted takeover of their country by Marxist academics, and their political leaders have responded by passing laws that make it hard to indoctrinate students and teachers with CRT and eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates from schools and universities. These ideas are spread especially in schools of education, where unsuspecting and well-intentioned would-be teachers go to get their credentials.  I spoke to Beanie Geoghegan, co-founder of the group Freedom in Education, who has done a lot of work in this area. When I asked her if education students knew what they were being fed, she said, “Absolutely not.” The professors pushing this stuff “really prey on people who care about children,” she added. It’s a good thing they are so discomfited at the moment. Four Coronal Mass Ejections Are Headed Towards Earth, With Strong Auroras Possible

The Earth is currently in the firing line of four distinct coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which means we could experience geomagnetic storms throughout the weekend. And while it’s unclear exactly how strong these storms will be, such events are known to trigger spectacular auroras at lower latitudes than one would typically expect to see them.Coronal mass ejections are expulsions of plasma and magnetic fields that are fired out into space from the Sun when solar flares erupt. When the charged particles of a CME interact with the Earth’s magnetosphere, they can trigger geomagnetic storms, enhancing the strength and geographical spread of the auroras.According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), two CMEs associated with an M-class solar flare began their journey towards Earth on Wednesday, August 7th. The following day, an X-class solar flare erupted, hurtling a third CME in our direction.X-class signifies the strongest category of solar flare, with Thursday’s event rated at X1.3 (on a scale of X1 to X9). According to the SWPC, a “faint CME” associated with another M-class flare was then detected early this morning (August 10th), bringing the total number of plasma blasts heading our way to four. Last night, the sun let off yet another CME, although this one is expected to “pass upstream of Earth orbit.”With all four coronal mass ejections predicted to reach us between now and Monday, the SWPC has forecast periods of G2 geomagnetic storms from August 10th to 12th. Storms in this category are classified as moderate, although confidence in the magnitude of the weekend's upcoming events is described as “low”.According to spaceweather.com, the severity of these storms could be upgraded to G3 if all four CMEs collide with the Earth in quick succession. And with sunspot activity currently high as we approach the solar maximum, the possibility of further M-class and X-class flares between now and the end of the weekend remains elevated. There’s currently no indication of how strong the auroras associated with these storms might be or how far away from the poles they will become visible, but we do know that the Perseid meteor shower is due to peak on the night of August 11th to August 12th. If a strong geomagnetic storm happens to coincide with this spectacular annual event, then stargazers could be in for a truly unique double whammy this weekend.

ABC's Parks Hails 'Joyful' Harris Contrasting With 'Mean And Nasty' Trump

ABC White House correspondent MaryAlice Parks joined Saturday’s installment of Good Morning America to gush over the supposed contrast between “joyful” and “happy” Vice President Kamala Harris and the “mean and nasty” Donald Trump. If that wasn’t bad enough, Parks also predicted that most people will not care about Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, embellishing his military resume, and instead just care that he served at all. Parks appeared to concede that Trump leveled a fair criticism against Harris that she hasn’t done any recent press conferences, but ultimately she tried to spin that, “She's going to have to define her campaign more, she’s going to have to flush out some of her policy positions, but that strategy you're talking about, that joyful warrior presence, that excitement, leaning into the laughing, it has been effective out there on the campaign trail.”     She also claimed it is “amazing how quickly she's, kind of, branded herself like that. Blunting criticism that she laughs too much. She looks and sounds different than President Biden. I think that it's reminding Democrats they don't have to feel that sense of doom that, frankly, a lot of them felt about the Biden campaign, but it's also letting her draw a contrast to Trump without talking so much about Trump because I think every time she sounds joyful or happy, you're sort of reminded that he can sound mean and nasty.” Circling back to Trump, Parks added, “Like, I’m thinking about, in his press conference when he criticized her for not giving a press conference. He didn't just say 'she hasn’t taken questions,' he said she's not smart enough to take questions, and it's that language that swing voters are just put off by.” A few minutes later, Parks was discussing Walz’s controversies when she declared, “I think that some people will care about the fact that Walz seemed to, sort of, misrepresent, he said he was in war when he never saw active combat. The campaign said he misspoke, but I actually think that more Americans will care that there are two veterans, Walz served in uniform for 24 years.”     After conceding the campaign was compelled to change its website to refer to Walz’s proper rank at retirement, Parks turned to the controversy of him not going to Iraq. “Look, when he got out, he was really outspoken against the war in Iraq, he was consistent with that position. I do think that's something he'll be able to talk about. Frankly, a lot of Americans were consistent in their opposition to the Iraq War.” Parks continued, “I talked to a lot of veterans, some major veteran organizations across the country, that were excited about that pick. Just because of the work that Walz did when he was in Congress fighting for veterans and veterans' benefits.” JD Vance has also been a fierce critic of the Iraq War, but made the point that he went where Uncle Sam sent him, but Walz didn’t. ABC Good Morning America 8/10/2024 7:32 AM ET MARYALICE PARKS: She's going to have to define her campaign more, she’s going to have to flush out some of her policy positions, but that strategy you're talking about, that joyful warrior presence, that excitement, leaning into the laughing, it has been effective out there on the campaign trail. Amazing how quickly she's, kind of, branded herself like that. Blunting criticism that she laughs too much. She looks and sounds different than President Biden. I think that it's reminding Democrats they don't have to feel that sense of doom that, frankly, a lot of them felt about the Biden campaign, but it's also letting her draw a contrast to Trump without talking so much about Trump because I think every time she sounds joyful or happy, you're sort of reminded that he can sound mean and nasty. Like, I’m thinking about, in his press conference when he criticized her for not giving a press conference. He didn't just say “she hasn’t taken questions,” he said she's not smart enough to take questions, and it's that language that swing voters are just put off by. … I think that some people will care about the fact that Walz seemed to, sort of, misrepresent, he said he was in war when he never saw active combat. The campaign said he misspoke, but I actually think that more Americans will care that there are two veterans, Walz seeded in uniform for 24 years. You’re right, they changed the campaign website to no longer say retired, because even though he raise to that—he rose to that rank, he didn’t serve in that position long enough to formally retire at that rank.
