Stadium-Sized ‘Day of Gratitude’ Event Set in Las Vegas for Military Personnel, Veterans

At an event expected to be the largest of its kind in Nevada history, 15,000 military service members, veterans, and their families will be treated to world-class entertainment, millions of dollars in gifts, and an array of activities at the NFL Las Vegas Raiders’ stadium on Saturday.  With the maximum number of free tickets already reserved, there are 3,000 more service members, vets, and their families on the waitlist for the Day of Gratitude at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, said Dave Donaldson, co-founder and CEO of CityServe International, a Christian collaborative network. “We want this Day of Gratitude to really show our appreciation, not only for those who have served, but their families,” Donaldson said. “We want their kids to know how proud we are of their parents and grandparents.” Day of Gratitude performers will include country music artist Walker Hayes, “American Idol” finalist Danny Gokey, and Garry and Janine Carson, whose magic show was voted No. 1 in Las Vegas last year. The Day of Gratitude collaborators—including Voice of the Veterans, ChurchLV, the Las Vegas Raiders, and corporate donors, in addition to CityServe—will distribute $3 million worth of “gratitude gifts,” Donaldson said. Those include T-shirts for every attendee, along with Ikea bags filled with 20 different practical items, such as Nike shoes, toys, diapers, and baby wipes.  “Thanks to the Raiders, we’re going to feed the first 12,000 a wonderful lunch,” the CityServe chief said. After the ceremony and lunch, the kids’ zone will open on each end of the field, where there will be inflatable moon bounce houses and games.   There will be some 40 booths providing various services for veterans and military families at the event, he said. Many of those services will focus on counseling and encouragement, combating post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicide prevention.  “It’s a heartbreaker when you hear the statistics,” Donaldson said. Since 9/11, nearly 7,000 military personnel have died in wars, and 6,000 have died every year from suicide since then. Additionally, 1 in 4 active-duty service members suffer from food insecurity, he said. Veterans often return from service and feel isolated because they can’t relate to other people, as “the military comprises 1% of the American population,” he said. Other sources put that figure even lower, at 0.5% “Too many feel like relics that have been forgotten, and that’s a narrative that has got to be changed in our nation,” Donaldson said. “Day of Gratitude is a catalyst for changing this mindset.” The post Stadium-Sized ‘Day of Gratitude’ Event Set in Las Vegas for Military Personnel, Veterans appeared first on The Daily Signal.

GOP Congressman Proposes Legislation To Put Donald Trump On $500 Bill

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has introduced legislation to require the printing of $500 bills that include a portrait of Donald Trump. “Just introduced H.R. 8620, the TRUMP Act, legislation requiring the Treasury print $500 Federal Reserve notes featuring a portrait of the 45th President of the United States,” Gosar wrote. Just introduced H.R. 8620, the TRUMP Act, legislation requiring the Treasury print $500 Federal Reserve notes featuring a portrait of the 45th President of the United States, .@realDonaldTrump. Read more herehttps://t.co/uahl0TeS63 — Rep. Paul Gosar, DDS (@RepGosar) June 6, 2024 H.R. 8620 is officially called the Treasury Reserve Unveiling Memorable Portrait (TRUMP) Act. Gosar issued the following release: “As Bidenflation continues to devalue our currency, the issuance of $500 bills featuring President Trump by the Treasury offers several practical advantages. First, larger-value currency will empower Americans with the freedom of more tangible options to save and exchange goods and services. Additionally, the absence of large-denomination currency issued by the Treasury encourages Americans to rely on digital banking, which faces greater vulnerability to surveillance and censorship. Furthermore, from a collector’s perspective, these $500 Trump bills will become highly sought after, generating revenue for the government through increased demand for numismatic items. Collectors often covet currency with unique designs and historical significance and bills featuring the very popular 45th President will attract considerable attention from collectors. This will no doubt create a market for the $500 Trump bills far beyond their face value and increase the seigniorage earnings of the government, thus increasing overall revenues,” stated Congressman Gosar. “The last version of a $500 bill featured a portrait of President William McKinley and was printed in 1945. The denomination was discontinued 24 years later, according to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing,” Fox Business reports. Rep. Paul Gosar Proposes the Creation of a $500 Bill Featuring President Trump https://t.co/ZXjdcln2H0 — Timcast News (@TimcastNews) June 6, 2024 Fox Business reports: Inflation eased slightly in April for the first time in months, though it still remains above the Federal Reserve’s target rate. The Labor Department said last month that the consumer price index, a broad measure of how much everyday goods like gasoline, groceries and rent cost, rose 0.3% in April from the previous month. Economists expected to see a 0.4% monthly increase. Prices climbed 3.4% from the same time last year, down from the 3.5% reading in March. Another data point that measures underlying inflationary pressures within the economy also moderated last month. So-called core prices, which exclude the more volatile measurements of gasoline and food in order to better assess price growth trends, increased 0.3% in April. From the same time last year, the gauge climbed 3.6% — the lowest reading since 2021. Altogether, the report indicates that while inflation has fallen considerably from a peak of 9.1%, it remains well above the Fed’s 2% target. Gosar’s argument is that while prices remain uncomfortably high for many Americans, the reintroduction of Federal Reserve notes at higher denominations will help people carry cash needed to make purchases.

School Reportedly To Digitally Track Children With ‘Magnetic Bracelets’

A school in Switzerland will soon begin a pilot project to digitally track its students with magnetic bracelets to monitor them on school grounds. “At the Letten after-school care center in Birmensdorf, children will wear a magnetic wristband with a Bluetooth system that will allow the childcare staff to check where the child is; staff will receive an alert if a child leaves the after-school care center or school ‘without permission’ during care hours,” Remix News reports. Teachers will be able to remotely monitor individual children or groups of them, and will be alerted if a child leaves the school grounds without permission. https://t.co/u38K5EZUMo — Remix News & Views (@RMXnews) June 5, 2024 Birmensdorf Primary School wrote to parents in a letter that “high-quality care” of the children is a key concern for the school, according to Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ). Per NZZ (translated): But what happens next is quite something. The school wants to try out a “digital solution”: in future, the children in the Letten day-care center will wear a magnetic bracelet with a Bluetooth system that the care staff can use to find out where the child is in the day-care center or on the school grounds. In addition, the staff will be “actively informed” if a child “unauthorizedly” leaves the day-care center or school during care time. This was made public by the newspaper “Le Temps”. What’s interesting is that the technology and equipment for the tracking system is supplied by the head of the Letten daycare center, Joel Giger. Last year he founded a start-up called Companion and initiated the project in Birmensdorf. The company’s logo is also shown on the school’s communication, which the NZZ has seen. The school board does not see this as a problematic connection, as its president Bettina Köhler told the NZZ. “Those responsible for the day-care structures at Birmensdorf School can gain new insights through the pilot project and at the same time offer the company the opportunity to test the product as part of the pilot project together with specialists on site.” Although it’s up to the parents if they want their children participating in the pilot project, they must actively deregister their children. A school in Switzerland has controversially announced it will trial tracking wristbands on children to keep tabs on them and to prevent them leaving sanctioned locations without prior authorisation. https://t.co/uLmiInth27 — m o d e r n i t y (@ModernityNews) June 5, 2024 Remix News reports: The test at the Birmensdorf school will begin on June 10 with the third and fourth grades and will last until the summer vacations, the school revealed. The project will be extended to all classes between the summer and fall vacations. The test will then be evaluated and a decision made on the definitive introduction of the system. It is up to the parents to decide whether they want their child to take part in the project or not. However, they must actively opt their children out. Tracking systems for children are not a new invention. GPS devices, which parents can use to locate their children at any time, can be ordered online at the click of a mouse. The number of such portable devices, also known as wearables, has increased significantly worldwide in recent years. The cantonal data protection authority, however, is critical of the project. According to its spokesperson Hans Peter Waltisberg, data processing is proportionate if there is a “reasonable relationship” between the purpose pursued and the data processing. However, “a permanent localization of pupils does not seem necessary for the care of children.” “It should be examined whether a Bluetooth wristband is the appropriate means of localization. For example, the fact that a wristband can also be removed must be taken into account,” he added.
