Doug Aldrich recalls when Dio booted him out of his house

The guitarist Doug Aldrich was a member of Dio from 2002 to 2003 and in 2005 and 2009. But he also worked in the meantime on and off with Whitesnake from 2003 to 2014. That was the main reason why the late legendary singer Ronnie James Dio got really upset with him one time and booted him out of his house. The guitar player recalled that in an interview with 96.7 KCAL-FM "Wired In The Empire" (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). It all happened when he accepted Whitesnake's offer to tour for a couple more months and then discovered that Dio had a new tour opening for Iron Maiden. Doug Aldrich recalls when Dio booted him out of his house "That tour was in 2003. So what happened is, originally Whitesnake asked me to play [with them], and I asked Ronnie [James Dio if he was okay with it], and he said, 'Yeah.' And it was gonna be a two-month tour. And we just had a blast. I mean, the Whitesnake band was on fire, just like the Dio band. And Coverdale said, 'Do you wanna carry on? I've got dates." "I'm gonna finish out the year.' I'm, like, 'Hell yeah. Let's do it.' And in the breaks, I was going up to Ronnie's. We were writing — starting to write for what turned out to be 'Master Of The Moon', which I actually in the end didn't contribute anything to. But we started writing. And one day he goes, 'Oh, we've got this tour with Iron Maiden coming up in the summertime.'" He continued: "And I was, like, 'Oh, Ronnie. Are you serious? Are you sure?' He's, like, 'Yeah.' I go. ''Cause I just committed to David Coverdale about the summer run.' And he was pissed, man. He was, like, 'What the fuck?' I was really upset. He kind of booted me out of the house. It was, like, 'The writing session's over. Get the fuck out,' kind of thing. He was pissed. And I felt horrible." "But I had a great opportunity to work with Coverdale, and in the end it paid off with a lot of new music for Whitesnake. And I went back to Ronnie a couple of times. In 2005, he asked me to come back and fill in on a tour in Europe. Then I ended up doing another tour in Europe with him in 2005, which ended up being the 'Holy Diver Live' DVD." "That's when Coverdale was, like, 'Hey, I hear you're back with Ronnie. And some people are saying it's full time.' And I just said, 'Look, if you wanna keep Whitesnake going, we've gotta do some new music.' And he agreed. And that's when we started writing together. But it's all kind of intertwined. But the bottom line is that I missed that tour, and I heard it was a great tour," Doug Aldrich said. Born in Raleigh, North Carolina back in 1963, Aldrich worked with a huge number of famous artists during his career. He is active since 1982 and besides Dio and Whitesnake, he also played with Lion, Bad Moon Rising, W.A.S.P. and for more than a decade has been a member of the supergroup The Dead Daises. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFKnO9apt5IThe post Doug Aldrich recalls when Dio booted him out of his house appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Duff McKagan says he inspired The Simpsons’ “Duff” beer

The Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan once again said that he is the inspiration behind The Simpsons famous beer brand "Duff". According to him, at the time the cartoon was created, he was approached by people who asked him if they could use his name for a character. The musician talked about this in an interview with Stereogum and said that although the creators of the show deny that, they would be doing that to keep the commercial side of it as it is. Duff McKagan says he inspired The Simpsons' "Duff" beer "Yes, yes (it's true)! Well, here’s the deal. So I was Duff, the King of Beers. But this is 1988, 1989 and our management, I remember they called me and said some arthouse-like cartoon wants to use your name as the beer, like a college arthouse cartoon. There weren’t any adult cartoons at this point." "I didn’t know about branding or anything like that, but that show took off. And then they started selling merch and stuff. I never went after him, but I’m like, 'Hey, motherfuckers,' you know?" "So I think it’s very probably business savvy of them to say that’s not true. But if you just do your own math behind it, look at when they started off with the King of Beers, and I had my King of Beers belt I wore all the time," Duff McKagan said. Although Duff said that, he said during the same conversation that is all cool and that he won't ask them for money. Guns N' Roses was never featured as character in the show but their music appeared a couple of times in the Springfield universe. Duff is currently promoting his latest solo studio album "Lighthouse" released in 2023. He has many scheduled tour dates this year in Europe and the United States. He is also working alongside Slash and Axl Rose on a new Guns N' Roses studio album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEt-n0ZsYx8&pp=ygUJZHVmZiBiZWVyThe post Duff McKagan says he inspired The Simpsons’ “Duff” beer appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Gene Simmons says Jimmy Page and Paul McCartney praised his bass playing

The Kiss co-founder, bassist and singer Gene Simmons was a fundamental part of the band, being the group's main songwriter also alongside Paul Stanley during the 50 years they were active. Although they are one of the best-selling bands of all time, with an estimated amount of more than 100 million records sold worldwide, many critics complained that the band's playing and songwriting was too simple. But in an interview with Adam Carolla (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), Simmons recalled when the Led Zeppelin guitarist/producer Jimmy Page and The Beatle Paul McCartney praised his bass playing. Gene Simmons says Jimmy Page and Paul McCartney praised his bass playing "Page came to see us the first time when we played Wembley, came to see us some other times when we were there (In England). And he came up to me after the show, with my hand to God, and said, 'Mate, you can give [John] Entwistle a run for his money.' And I was just about ready to pass out. That's not true, of course. But the fact that he may say that — the highest compliment." "(...) The only higher one might be [Paul] McCartney coming over and saying, 'You're doing a good job.' Because nobody played bass the way McCartney did. Because you can hear a song and remember the bass parts that McCartney played," Gene Simmons said. Kiss played their final concert last December 2023 after 50 years on the road. The band's final line-up had Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley (Guitar and vocals), Tommy Thayer (Guitar) and Eric Singer (Drums). In 2024, Gene Simmons already started to tour around the world with his own solo band. He plays a few solo career songs, some covers but most of the setlist is composed of Kiss songs with him on vocals. Until now Paul Stanley didn't reveal any future plans to record or tour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzOpaE3NglQ&pp=ygURZ2VuZSBzaW1tb25zIDIwMjQ%3DThe post Gene Simmons says Jimmy Page and Paul McCartney praised his bass playing appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The song that Ronnie James Dio said is one of the best of all time

The late legendary vocalist and songwriter Ronnie James Dio was one of the most important voices of Heavy Metal music. Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, United States back in 1942, he started his career in 1957, way before Metal and Hard Rock existed. He first achieve some fame in the early 70s with the band Elf, which toured with Deep Purple. That's how the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore discovered Dio and obviously, that meeting was crucial for him later on in 1975, invite the American singer to be Rainbow's vocalist. In the following decades, of course, he was also the vocalist of Black Sabbath and of his own band, Dio. During his career Ronnie talked a lot about other artists and once even named which, in his opinion, is one of the best songs of all time. The song that Ronnie James Dio said is one of the best of all time Although Ronnie James Dio didn't always have good things to say about his ex-bandmate, the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, he always praised his work as a musician. In an interview with Rhapsody Blog back in 2009, Ronnie revealed which were some of his favorite songs of all time. One of them was Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water". “One of the greatest songs of all time. Of course, I played with Ritchie Blackmore for a long time. And all the guys in Purple have been my good friends for 35 years now. That record was produced by the bass player, Roger Glover, and the drummer, Ian Paice. Ritchie wrote a riff that we can all play. So simple, but it is a magnificent riff. I just think it’s one of the ultimate classic songs of all time. When I hear it, I hark back to that time in my life. It’s important to me,” Ronnie James Dio said. Although Rainbow didn't perform "Smoke On The Water" when Ronnie James Dio was part of the band (Only after he left), he performed the track with Deep Purple a couple of times. One of those performances happened at Royal Albert Hall in 1999, when the band was recording with an orchestra. But obviously, by that time Blackmore was no longer a member of the band. At that time Deep Purple was formed by Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Steve Morse. Ronnie always said that Deep Purple influenced him a lot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZOSHJH5xS0 Although he was born in the USA, Dio always said that he was influenced mainly by British bands. In an interview with Let It Rock in 2005, he named Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin as two groups who really made him want to sing and write heavier music. “Those who influenced me were Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Mainly English bands of that era. But especially Purple and Zeppelin. That’s what made me want to do this more and more, and more. Because the first band I was in back then, ELF, were much more a kind of honky tonk rock ‘n’ roll band.” “But I always wanted to be able to play heavier music. I loved their musicianship. I thought they were the best musicians on Earth! Those were the people I really cared about when I was into this kind of music,” Ronnie James Dio said. Dio was a really good friend of the members of Deep Purple and they all paid tribute to him after his passing. The vocalist died at the age of 67 back in May 16, 2010, a victim of stomach cancer. The post The song that Ronnie James Dio said is one of the best of all time appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
