After allegedly gunning down a healthcare company CEO in broad daylight, Luigi Mangione became a folk hero of sorts to some Americans who apparently believe wealthy business executives deserve a violent death. The narrative has sparked significant social debate and was clearly the inspiration for a recent episode of NBC’s long-running procedural drama series “Law & Order.” From the name of the episode — “Folk Hero” — to the depiction of the crime itself, Breitbart explained that the storyline was essentially a retelling of the circumstances surrounding Brian Thompson’s death late last year: The accused killer’s lawyer offers the novel defense that Weller’s crime is justified because he felt he was “saving lives” by killing the insurance company CEO. “There is no question Ethan Weller shot and killed Logan Andrews,” the lawyer states. “But there’s a reason he did it, a legal reason. He was trying to save lives. Logan Andrews caused the death of thousands of innocent people. By denying their legitimate insurance claims. Thousands more were about to die, are about to die, because of Mr. Andrews’ callous disregard for human life. So Ethan Weller killed Logan Andrews before Mr. Andrews could kill again. And his actions are completely and unequivocally legal under the laws of New York.” Later in the episode, several CEOs come together and point out that the judge who allowed the absurd defense of the killer has a history of donating to extreme left-wing causes and is attempting to paint all CEOs as mass murderers. Another of the CEOs is outraged, saying, “So now we’re all on trial for this?” “Yeah, and for what? Because we had the audacity to make money for our shareholders? This judge and this defense lawyer are basically telling the world that it is okay to just hunt us down like–like we’re a bunch of pheasants,” a CEO in the meeting says. The show ended on an activist note, as well. Instead of revealing a guilty verdict, the show ended with no verdict at all, leaving the audience the room to decide that murdering a CEO is justified simply because they are rich men who run big companies. He’s basically Jason Bourne. The whole city is complicit in thwarting the manhunt. Dan from Veep is SO mad that no one cares,” one viewer proclaimed on X, clearly happy with how it turned out. Others, however, were less impressed, mainly because they believe the actor playing Ethan doesn’t come close to Mangione’s level of devastatingly good looks. “This Law & Order episode is clearly based on Luigi. But this guy isn’t hot at all,” another person wrote. To be fair, Mangione is so ridiculously handsome that a picture of him in loafers with no socks and his feet shackled caused the internet to implode in a collective thirst frenzy. So yeah, the bar is HIGH. Meanwhile, many fans felt like it was a little too soon for a Mangione episode, especially considering how it could influence jurors’ impartiality in a future trial. Three years ago, during a high school girls’ volleyball match, the future I had envisioned for myself completely fell apart. I suffered a severe head and neck injury after a trans-identifying male athlete on the opposing girls’ team sent a volleyball flying directly at my face. I was left partially paralyzed on the right side of my body. The full extent of my injuries forced me to confront the reality that the collegiate athletic career I had been pursuing was no longer possible, and that even basic tasks, such as driving and taking exams, would be significantly more difficult. At first, I felt hopeless. But then I realized I could use my tragedy — the permanent consequences I must now live with as a result of an unfair policy forcing girls like me to compete against biological males—for good. And that’s exactly what has happened. It was an immense honor to attend President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on March 4 as a guest of the president and first lady. All I could think about as I listened to the president share my story is how far I’ve come — and how different things could have been. I never wanted to be a policy advocate or public figure in the fight against gender ideology. All I wanted was to compete and play softball in college. But as President Trump reminded Americans during his address, gender ideology and the officials who enforce it stole that dream from me. And they have no regrets about doing so. In fact, as I stood to be recognized by President Trump, not a single Democrat on the left side of the aisle applauded or stood in recognition of the hardship I have experienced. I don’t recall even one Democrat so much as looking in my direction. It was hard not to take this as a personal insult. After all, the policies they support — policies that strip women of their right to sex-based spaces and sports teams — cost me personally. But the Democrats’ stubborn refusal to recognize the consequences of their policies doesn’t just affect me. Senate Democrats in particular made that quite clear this month when they refused to vote in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a bill that would bar male athletes from competing against — and potentially injuring — young women. These Democrats know they are out of step with the American public on this issue—and they just don’t care. For example, when Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, was asked earlier this month why she voted against the bill when the vast majority of her state’s residents support it, she insisted the legislation wasn’t important because “it only applies to one person.” To be clear, even a very conservative estimate places the total number of trans-identifying male athletes competing in women’s sports at far more than just “one person.” But even if Shaheen were right, I am living proof of what can happen when just “one person” is forced to give up her sex-based right to fair and safe competition. Does my experience not matter to Democrats like Shaheen? Do my rights not count? The fact is, it doesn’t matter how many trans-identifying athletes there are. The correct number of women who should be forced to compete against them is zero. And if congressional Democrats refuse to take our safety seriously, then state legislatures must pick up the slack for them. After my injury, I was proud to help pass a bill in my home state of North Carolina, House Bill 574, that bans trans-identifying male athletes from playing in women’s sports at both the K-12 and collegiate levels, and I remain committed to helping other states follow suit. There are still 24 states that refuse to act on this issue. That must change. Those states should keep in mind that the American public, the Trump administration, and, most importantly, common sense, are all on the same side: the side that values and protects women like me. They can either join the fight or stay seated like the Democrats in Congress this month. After Minnesota Democrat governor and failed vice presidential candidate Tim Walz taunted Elon Musk for Tesla’s stock dropping and news then broke that his state had millions of shares of the company in 2024, he offered a lame apology for his behavior. Speaking at a town hall event in Rochester, Minnesota, Walz declared of Musk, “This guy bugs me in a way that is probably unhealthy,” to applause and cheers. “I have to be careful about being a smarta**. I was making a joke. These people have no sense of humor. They are the most literal people. My point was that they’re all mad, and I said something I probably shouldn’t have about a company,” he stated. Then he accused people outraged by his comments about Tesla of being “butthurt,” continuing, “I make the case they’re all butthurt about the Tesla thing, but they don’t care the disrespect they have shown to employees at the Minneapolis VA who care for our veterans and they fire them. Earthquake Specialists recently convened in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to unveil an online tool that shows the potential impact of a serious earthquake on the New Madrid fault system. Per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium, or CUSEC,  met on March 18 to share its findings at the annual SEMA Earthquake Summit. Experts don’t anticipate a quake that strong soon, but some project it could happen in the next 50 years. The model shows in a “worst case scenario,” more than 20,000 households were displaced, and there could be approximately 500 deaths. The damages could be upwards of $75 billion, in just one area in Missouri. The interactive tool allows users to enter their home state, county, and earthquake category to see just how much damage an earthquake could cause. The deadliest scenario predicts nearly 3,000 people killed and $145.8 billion in damages in the Memphis, Tennessee, area. Brian Blake, CUSEC’s executive director, explained, “The tool is for planning purposes. This gives us something to plan to.” Blake explained that they “have the recipe” for a New Madrid earthquake and that the developers created a“choose-your-own-adventure planning tool.” Jeff Briggs, earthquake program manager for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, or SEMA, said it’s just a matter of time before the New Madrid Seismic Zone erupts. “It’s going to be a challenge unlike anything we’ve ever seen, which is why it’s so important to talk about it.” This story’s featured image can be found here. A recent mishap at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT caused nearby restaurants and attractions to temporarily come to a halt. A fire had broken out at the French Pavilion, and there was enough smoke to capture the attention of a number of visitors who were passing by the area. This beloved Disney park would later share that a walk-in cooler had caught on fire backstage. As guests were guided to safety, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District fire department made their way to extinguish the fire, something they were able to do before anyone was injured. Nearby guests were able to capture the black smoke rising from the fire. One guest even captured a glimpse of the fire itself, as seen in the video below. “What?” a visitor on the Disney Skyliner says in the video above. “Oh my God, it’s right there.” This large amount of smoke is why a number of guests were seen wearing smoke inhalation breathing masks. Some were also covered in emergency blankets. After Fire Breaks Out at Disney’s EPCOT, Parts of the Park Temporarily Come to a Halt Naturally, anyone in the French Pavilion area was evacuated. But they were not the only ones. A nearby ride was also affected by this fire: Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Disney parks tend to be pretty busy at any point in the year. That said, now is a particularly popular season. For starters, March is when Spring Break takes place, bringing in families from all across the country. Plus, there is EPCOT’s International Flower & Garden Festival. Still, the fire did not put too much of a damper on the affected guests’ night. By 8:20 p.m., everything was reopened.
