Health Secretary Warns the State Will Derpive ‘Racists’ of Healthcare

Your Sighing Is a Symptom –  Encouragement for Today – August 9, 2024

August 9, 2024 Your Sighing Is a SymptomBETH KNIGHT Lee en español "All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you." Psalm 38:9 (NIV) "Are you OK?" I glanced up from scrambling eggs and noticed a troubled look on my husband's face. Unbeknownst to me, while I was rushing around our kitchen, deep sighs had been escaping from my heavy chest as I pondered my concerns. While I tackled my daily tasks, my incessant sighing begged for an internal investigation. Sighing can be a symptom of a weary soul, a language spoken by a languishing heart. This God-given signal draws attention to inner burdens too heavy for us to carry alone. People around us can't always translate the meaning, but the Lord understands what every sigh attempts to communicate. We see an example of this in Psalm 38, where King David longed to be free from affliction caused by his sin. He didn't hide his feelings from the Lord. He humbly bared his soul and begged for mercy, trusting the Lord to see, hear and save him. Psalm 38:9 says, "All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you." Similarly, when unseen spiritual opposition devastated Job's life, he said, "Sighing has become my daily food; my groans pour out like water" (Job 3:24, NIV). Wave after wave, unspeakable trials came upon Job for eternal purposes known only to God. The worst Job feared could happen ... did happen. Still, like David, Job transparently shared his heart with the Lord. When pain runs deep, it's comforting to know we aren't alone - God's people throughout Scripture, our fellow believers today, and even the natural world groan alongside us as we await final redemption and restoration (Romans 8:22-23). Most importantly, "the Spirit [of God] himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words" (Romans 8:26b, ESV). In John 16:33b, Jesus says, "In the world you will have tribulation" (ESV). The Greek word for "tribulation," thlipsis, means "to crush, press together or squeeze." Yet when troubles constrict our breathing, we can release the pressure valves of our hearts by praying to the One who also says, "Take heart; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33c, ESV)! Precious friend, we can trust our Creator with our pain. He will help us by replacing our weaknesses with His strength and our pressures with His peace. No sigh or groan goes unnoticed; each one is deeply felt and understood by the Savior who loves us. He sees the burdens we carry and enables us to remain faithful despite unmet longings and seasons of suffering that leave us breathless. So why hold in our feelings when we can hand them over to Him? Journal, pray or even scream them out! When we lay our burdens at Jesus' feet, His unending mercy and grace meet us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). Heavenly Father, You know my heart is heavy. I humbly release every burden into Your sovereign hands. Please soothe me, calm my fears, and lead me beside still waters. In Jesus' Name, Amen. OUR FAVORITE THINGS "How do I enjoy where I am while I long for what's missing?" Our next Circle 31 Book Club pick tackles just that! Starting September 1, we're reading Anonymous: Jesus' Hidden Years...and Yours by Dr. Alicia Britt Chole together. Jesus Himself experienced longings on earth, and He met each one with God's unchanging Truth. His power and example help us enjoy this present moment, even while the desire for what's missing remains. Join us in Circle 31 as we read Anonymous together. Sometimes we hit a point in a relationship where we realize something must change. But when we're so close to the situation, it's easy to feel unsure about what’s really going on and what the best next steps are from here. That's why Lysa TerKeurst; counselor Jim Cress; and Proverbs 31 Ministries' Director of Theological Research, Dr. Joel Muddamalle, the voices of the Therapy & Theology podcast, want to help you. Tune in to their recent conversation "Am I in Denial That This Relationship Is Unhealthy?" today! ENGAGE For more encouragement from Beth Knight, subscribe to her blog. Beth would also love to connect with you on Instagram. FOR DEEPER STUDY Psalm 10:17, "You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry ..." (NIV). Lamentations 3:56-57, "You have heard my voice: ‘Do not hide Your ear From my sighing, from my cry for help.' You drew near on the day I called on You, And said, ‘Do not fear!'" (NKJV). God knows the meaning of your sighing before you have words for it. When can you make time to share your raw and unrehearsed thoughts with the Lord? We'd love to hear from you! A Prayer to Share the Gift of Christ – Your Daily Prayer – August 9

A Prayer to Share the Gift of ChristBy Chelsey DeMatteis  “And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” – Mark 16:15-16 As the people of God we understand why God has given us rules, boundaries, and guidelines for the way to live. God’s design for the believer’s life brings certainty, clarity, and, ultimately, a deeper connection to Him. If you’re like me, you also know what it's like to not live within the framework God has given us. So it only makes sense that we would be able to have the maturity to examine the world around us through a lens of seeing the lost as those who need a Savior.  Something I’m most often reminded of is what happened when I began walking closely with God, I experienced what is written in the Psalms. I tasted and saw that the Lord was good. My circumstances and sins that I was working through didn’t change who God was and what He desired for my life. If anything, this new shift in my life concreted just how loving God was to desire such good things for me. Those who have not yet tasted the goodness of God's grace or found His mercy over their life are truly stumbling their way through their days. Their worldliness feels right in their minds because they are controlled by this world, and the enemy has a grip on them.  As we journey alongside those who don’t yet know the Lord, I think it would be incredibly helpful if we, with intention and conviction, remembered what God’s great commission says to us in Mark 16:14-16, “Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”  We have the opportunity to share the greatest news of all with people who need hope, who need to know grace is available to them, and that they are loved more deeply than they could ever begin to imagine. In the same breath we also have the opportunity to share our testimony, the story God has given us, to reveal to them why we needed Jesus to go to the cross. That our sin was paid for by Christ and that through Him, we are offered a new life, a new way, and the only way to eternal glory with our Creator. I know from personal experience that God has an incredible way of leading those who are just learning about Him with gentle rebuke and tender conviction. The power of the Holy Spirit quickly turns hearts that were once stone into hearts of flesh on fire for Christ. God is faithful. He was gracious enough to do the work through you and me. Let us be prayerful and eager to participate in seeing His work completed in the lives of those around us.  Let’s pray: Lord, I pray that I will always remember the desires of your heart. I ask that my heart would be full of conviction when it begins to veer off the path you’ve given me. Remind me constantly that there is power in prayer, a gift in leading with humility, and abundant, unending hope in your living Word. Help me to be steadfast in sharing your truth and giving others a reason to desire to know you. I pray that my story will be used to bring you glory. Open my eyes to see those around me that need to know you and stir up in my heart the call to encourage those people with the truth and love from your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen. Dorset museum crowdfunds rare Bronze Age gold bracelet

The Dorset Museum & Art Gallery has raised the money to acquire a rare Late Bronze Age (950–750 B.C.) gold bracelet with a crowdfunding campaign to get them over the finish line. The bracelet was discovered by a metal detectorist in Hilton, Dorset, in 2020. It is incomplete, a long fragment of a flat strip with a flared terminal. The strip was deliberately bent, folded over with the terminal on the inside. The other end was deliberately cut, not broken. The edges were raised to create low flanges on both sides. Comparison of the features of the band, particularly the flared terminal and low flanges, to similar pieces found in other locations confirmed that it was a bracelet dating to 950–750 B.C. The total weight of the gold is 14.05 grams (half an ounce). The piece underwent the Treasure adjudication process, but the result was a foregone conclusion as it is more than 300 years old and composed of a precious metal. After it was declared treasure, a valuation committee of experts at the British Museum assessed its fair market value at £1,200 ($1,530). As always, the museums closest to the find site are given the first chance to acquire the piece for the assessed value. Even a comparatively modest valuation is challenging for local museums with no acquisition budget to speak of, but the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery was highly motivated by the rarity and significance of the piece to Dorset’s history. This item is a rarity in the county. Whilst Bronze Age gold objects are by their nature rare, those known from Dorset and dating to the Late Bronze Age only comprise a limited number of forms, and gold items are vastly outweighed by finds of base metal objects. This item provides an indication that the deliberate modification of gold objects prior to their deposition continued into the Late Bronze Age in Dorset. Many Bronze Age metal objects were deliberately modified in antiquity, but this is not apparently related to treating the object as scrap, but rather carries some other social meaning within which larger objects such as bracelets and torcs were portioned and changed before entering the ground. This object is also significant for the location where it was found. The majority of finds of Bronze Age gold (and indeed bronze) objects have been recovered from the more north-easterly part of the county around Cranborne Chase. This was located in the centre of the county in the chalk valleys, an area which is rich in prehistoric archaeology but less researched and poorly understood. The museum was keen to exhibit the piece, study it and share it with other researchers. They did not want to risk the piece being sold to a private collector. They were able to raise £720 on their own, which left just £480 ($612) to raise. The crowd pitched in with alacrity, and a week later the fundraiser was over with its goal easily met.
