James Hetfield talks about Category 7, the new band he likes

The Metallica co-founder, guitarist, singer and main songwriter James Hetfield said during a new episode of the "The Metallica Report" podcast that the group Category 7 is one of the new bands he likes. The musician explained that he first discovered them when hearing music through the satellite radio SiriusXM, because it's only like that he usually discovers new bands. At first he said that the voice of the singer sounded familiar and then he discovered that it was actually John Bush (Armored Saint/Anthrax), who was almost Metallica's vocalist in the early days. The band is a spin off of the supergroup Metal Allegiance and it has John Bush, Phil Demmel (Guitar), Mike Orlando (Guitar), Jack Gibson (Bass) and Jason Bittner (Drums). Their self-titled debut album was released in 2024. James Hetfield talks about Category 7, the new band he likes "(Transcribed by Blabbermouth) As far as new music goes… Let's see. I flipped through Sirius a bunch. I mean, it's just so easy to go on to your playlist and listen to the same stuff over and over. And if I'm not listening to the radio of some sort where someone else is in control, I'm not learning new stuff so much." "I don't like getting caught in that rabbit hole: 'If you like this, you might like this.' And then sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn't. That's a computer telling me what I might like. But listening to the radio, I guess the newest thing that I was surprised by and really made me smile was Category 7, a band that's kind of a collaboration of few people." He continued: "I was listening to it, I'm going, 'That voice is awesome. It sounds very familiar.' It was fricking John Bush, our singer that we never got. And so John Bush is in a band with a few other well-known people out there, Phil Demmel from Machine Head, Exodus, a few other people in this band, kind of a — I don't know if it's a, whatever, supergroup of metal guys, but they all wanted to form a band and start playing." "And Brian Slagel has signed him. So I heard one song on the radio, and that's it. And it was great. It was really good. And I'm glad that John has kind of gone out on his own and done his own thing. And he was so, so, so tied to Armored Saint and then the Anthrax thing. Yeah, it's exciting," James Hetfield said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTz_QK3Dc1U&pp=ygUKY2F0ZWdvcnkgNw%3D%3DThe post James Hetfield talks about Category 7, the new band he likes appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The most underrated Black Sabbath song according to Geezer Butler

The legendary Black Sabbath co-founder, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler is currently promoting his autobiography "Into The Void" and the musician was asked by Songfacts which is the most underrated song of the band. Geezer Butler was part of almost all the albums Sabbath released during their career. He only wasn't part of the albums: "Seventh Star" (1986), "The Eternal Idol" (1987), "Headless Cross" (1989), "Tyr" (1990) and "Forbidden" (1995). The most underrated Black Sabbath song according to Geezer Butler "Maybe 'Hand Of Doom. I like Bill's whole drum track on it. It's totally different to what anybody else was doing. The lyrics were about soldiers coming back from the Vietnam War. That's what inspired me to write those lyrics," Geezer Butler said. That track was part of Black Sabbath's second studio album "Paranoid" released in 1970. It was overshadowed by other amazing songs like "War Pigs", "Paranoid", "Iron Man" and "Faries Wear Boots". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6HmfTdwYZg Lyrics "Whatcha gonna do? Time's caught up with you Now you wait your turn You know there's no return Take your written rules You join the other fools Turn to something new Now it's killing you First it was the bomb Vietnam napalm Disillusioning You push the needle in From life you escape Reality's that way Colors in your mind Satisfy your time Oh you, you know you must be blind To do something like this To take the sleep that you don't know You're giving death a kiss, oh, little fool now Your mind is full of pleasure Your body's looking ill To you it's shallow leisure So drop the acid pill, Don't stop to think now You're having a good time baby But that won't last Your mind's all full of things You're living too fast Go out enjoy yourself Don't bottle it in You need someone to help you To stick the needle in, yeah Now you know the scene Your skin starts turning green Your eyes no longer seeing Life's reality Push the needle in, Face death's sickly grin Holes are in your skin, Caused by deadly pin Head starts spinning 'round You fall down to the ground Feel your body heave Death's hands starts to weave It's too late to turn You don't want to learn Price of life you cry Now you're gonna die"The post The most underrated Black Sabbath song according to Geezer Butler appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

UFO’s Phil Mogg announces new band Moggs Motel

The legendary UFO vocalist Phil Mogg announced this year that the Hard Rock band was over and probably wouldn't return anymore. He suffered a heart attack in 2023 and had to change the plans for a possible farewell tour of the band. But now he announced a new band called Moggs Motel and also the release of their first album. The self-titled debut album will be out next September 6 via SPV/Steamhammer. Read the official statement about the new Phil Mogg band Moggs Motel: "UFO fans, watch out! Anyone who'd feared over the past two years that Mogg, one of the most influential rock vocalists worldwide, would disappear completely from the scene after the demise of his band, in addition to his health problems, has now thankfully been proved wrong." "After a brief hiatus to catch his creative breath, the 76-year-old British musician with the distinctive voice is ready to present his latest band and release, 'Moggs Motel', which he composed together with Tony Newton (bass and keyboards) from the band Voodoo Six, who had been touring partners with UFO previously, and long-standing associate Neil Carter (guitar, keyboards, vocals). The album was recorded at Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris's studio in Essex, U.K. In the studio, the band was joined by Joe Lazarus (drums) and Tommy Gentry (guitar) to complete the lineup." https://youtu.be/AtLg8K0pKpw Career with UFO Formed in London, England in 1968, they became in the following decades one of the most influential Hard Rock bands of all time. Besides Mogg, some of the other classic members of the band were Pete Way (Bass), Andy Parker (Drums) and Michael Schenker (Guitar). In almost five decades of career, the band released 22 studio albums, the final one being “The Salentino Cuts” (2017). They were a huge influence to famous bands like Iron Maiden, for example. For decades, the Metal band plays their song “Doctor Doctor” as the intro of their concerts. The band’s leader, the bassist Steve Harris is a huge fan of UFO. Some of their most famous tracks are “Doctor Doctor”, “Rock Bottom”, “Mother Mary” and “Lights Out”. The post UFO’s Phil Mogg announces new band Moggs Motel appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
