DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Americans trust Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump to handle the economy despite most having a poor view of the Biden-Harris administration’s economic policies, a new August poll finds. By a slim margin, Democratic presidential nominee Harris leads Republican nominee Trump at 42% compared to 41%, despite nearly half of participants responding that the Biden administration’s policies have “hurt the economy,” according to a poll conducted by the Financial Times and the University of Michigan. Only about one-quarter of voters polled believe the current administration has not hurt the economy, with nearly three-quarters stating a negative view of the current economy under President Joe Biden and Harris. When asked to disregard overall opinions of the candidate and who they planned to vote for, 42% of voters said they trusted Harris most to handle the economy, an increase from 35% in July. Trump’s numbers have stayed relatively consistent at around 41% since February while Harris polled at just 31% in the same month, according to the poll. Voters still agreed that the economy would fare better under a Trump presidency, with 42% answering that they would be financially “better off” with Trump’s economic policies compared to just 33% that said the same of Harris. More voters said they would be “worse off” if Harris wins the presidency at 38%. The percentage of people who said they would be better off under Trump dropped from 45% in July after Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, the poll shows. Six in 10 voters said Harris should change her approach to the economy from Biden’s if she wins the election, with many stating inflation as the most necessary change and many even answering “everything.” Americans’ confidence in the economy has been declining over the entirety of the Biden-Harris administration, with mounting fears over a recession following low job growth and stubborn inflation plaguing the nation. May polling found that 56% of Americans believe the country is currently in a recession. The poll was conducted Aug. 1 through Aug. 5 and sampled 1,001 registered voters with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points. “The soundtrack suggested a Beyoncé concert.” That’s the first line of Time magazine’s adulatory profile of Vice President Kamala Harris, titled “Her Hope,” or in the online version, “The Reintroduction of Kamala Harris.”  The cover of the magazine was a glamorized image of Harris reminiscent of posters of President-to-be Barack Obama from 2008. Halfway through the profile, Time noted that Harris spurned its request for an interview. Even in the friendliest of friendly media environments, Harris is still unwilling to step down from the clouds and sit through questions. That’s a remarkable attitude for someone trying to become president as a last-second replacement. This isn’t the “reintroduction” of Harris; it’s a rebranding. It’s an almost complete fabrication of a presidential candidate whose strategy appears to be maintaining a royal detachment from politics and policy. After years of echoing the Left’s hyperventilation about the end of democracy, the media have pulled out all the stops to make sure that Harris—who was simply chosen by her predecessor and by the Democratic Party elites without facing a single voter—is crowned as the next president of the United States. “All hail Queen Kamala, first of her name” is what we are supposed to accept. To make it so, we get a deluge of positive, uncritical stories about how Harris is bringing “joy” back to America, about how she is magical, even spectacular, and is one of the greatest politicians this country has ever seen. This, despite the fact that not long ago they were calling her one of the worst candidates ever. Her 2019 presidential campaign was a disaster. She was deeply unlikable, a terrible campaigner, and washed out early in the Democratic presidential primaries despite enormous advantages. What a difference a month makes. Harris is being given all the advantages of an incumbent, while having all of the failures of the Biden administration wiped away. In some cases, her direct failures have been erased, Soviet-style, from the record. Time magazine may have reached the nadir of the American Pravda genre with its slobbering, rapturous ode to the presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee, but the rest of the media landscape isn’t far behind. She’s getting glamorous cover profiles in other outlets, too. In this pivotal election, Black women everywhere could, for the first time, see a reflection of our grandmother’s dreams as Commander in Chief. Ha! What policies? Pay no attention to what you’ve heard about her having the most liberal record in the Senate. She’s got vibes. Has Harris had to answer to the Democratic Party faithful? Not at all. Though the Left hoots and hollers about how unfair the Electoral College supposedly is and how it supposedly subverts pure democracy, the Democratic Party has somehow managed to pull off the least democratic presidential nominating process in generations. Has Harris in any way been vetted for the office of the presidency? Nope. Harris hasn’t done a single sit-down interview with the press since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, and our noble defenders of the First Amendment and a free press are apparently just fine with that. Oh, apparently she let some members of the media travel with her and ask questions off the record. You’ll get answers from Harris vicariously through them. The amount of unquestioning elite media adulation of Harris matches and, in some ways, even surpasses its treatment of Obama.  When then-Sen. Obama emerged as a presidential candidate, the media had little interest in digging into his past beyond the carefully cultivated stories he wanted to tell. It worked in 2008 with the “hope and change” campaign that ultimately catapulted him to the White House. We are seeing a “hope and change” redux, but under even more absurd circumstances and with a politician who seems to have none of the natural political gifts Obama had. Most Americans are highly displeased with the direction the Biden administration has taken the country. From the economy to immigration to the darkening international situation, there are plenty of areas in which the American people agree that we are going in the wrong direction as a country. And I’d argue there are many, even more troubling, aspects of the Biden administration. They’ve tried to foist “diversity, equity, and inclusion” and child gender transition initiatives on the whole country. Most troubling of all, the Biden administration has clearly and aggressively weaponized the federal government against domestic opponents.  Harris was in the White House when all of this was happening. She isn’t a clean-slate outsider like the way Obama was portrayed way back when. Yet, that’s what they want you to believe she is. Whether this strategy succeeds or fails, something has certainly been revealed through all of this, if it hadn’t already been over the previous decade. Most of the media have apparently abandoned all interest in finding the truth or in informing the people to enable them to make decisions about who leads the country and who doesn’t. Everything is about manufacturing narratives, about gaslighting the American people when truth stands in the way of useful fiction, and about manipulating information and events to secure power for one side of the political spectrum. That much of the media operates in this way so nakedly now is a testament to their perceived power over society and perhaps their hubris in thinking that most Americans don’t see through it. A significant increase in violent attacks on Border Patrol agents has occurred in West Texas in recent years, the head of the Border Patrol’s El Paso sector says.  Since Oct. 1, the start of fiscal year 2024, a total of 66 agents stationed in the El Paso sector have been assaulted, according to a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. In fiscal 2023, which ended Sept. 30, 104 agents were assaulted, up from 56 such assaults in fiscal 2022 and 54 in fiscal 2021. “We will not tolerate any harm to the well-being of those dedicated to protecting others,” Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Good of the El Paso Sector said in a public statement. “Our law enforcement partners stand with us in bringing those responsible to justice.” El Paso, one of the Border Patrol’s nine sectors along the U.S.-Mexico border, includes a portion of West Texas and all of New Mexico. An increase in illegal border crossings during the Biden-Harris administration has brought an increase in violent attacks on Border Patrol agents, according to a recent Customs and Border Protection memo. The violence occurs when illegal aliens or smugglers are unsuccessful in attempts to evade law enforcement.  “Migrants often throw rocks and glass bottles at agents when trying to evade apprehension,” CBP said in the memo. “There have been numerous instances of vehicles receiving extensive damage from rocks.”  Violent attempts to evade arrest range from biting Border Patrol agents to trying to kill them. An illegal alien shot an agent twice near Lordsburg, New Mexico, while that agent was “conducting an immigration stop,” according to CBP. “The agent survived the shooting due to his ballistic vest,” the agency said. “The man was [convicted and] sentenced to 19 years in federal prison for attempting to murder a U.S. Border Patrol agent.” Good noted that John Morales, the FBI special agent in charge of the El Paso division, and Alex Uballez, U.S. attorney for the district of New Mexico, recently posted a video on the Facebook page for the El Paso sector warning illegal aliens who might try violence to avoid arrest.  “Assault on federal agents is not just a crime, it is an affront to our principles of justice and to the safety of our nation,” Good said, adding that anyone who assaults an agent will “swiftly receive the full penalties of the United States law.”   “Whether you use a gun or your fists or a cut-up soda can, we will come for you,” Uballez warns in the video. Since the beginning of fiscal year 2024 in October, the Border Patrol has encountered 14,000 “criminal noncitizens” between ports of entry on U.S. borders. Nicaraguan Migrant Has Raped 2 Women in the US in Less Than 2 Years

A Corpus Christi, Texas, police officer fatally shot an 18-year-old male early Sunday morning who police said produced a handgun amid the assault of a male victim who was motionless on the ground.Police said officers were dispatched just after 1:30 a.m. to an assault in progress at the Ranch Dance Hall in the 4000 block of Everhart Road.'We understand that there has been another shooting of a black man by CCPD.'Police said call notes indicated the male assault victim was on the ground and not moving.Police said arriving officers saw an assault taking place on the side of a building on the corner of Everhart Road and Burney Drive — and that the suspect produced a handgun while over the victim on the ground.One of the officers of the two-man unit fired his gun and hit the 18-year-old male suspect who was taken to a hospital where he died, police said.The assault victim also was taken to a hospital for his injuries, police said.Police said the the officer involved wasn't injured and will be placed on administrative leave.Police added that those with information about the incident can call detectives at 361-886-2840 or make an anonymous call to CrimeStoppers at 361-888-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online.The Nueces County Medical Examiner has identified the 18-year-old who was killed as Dwayne Earl Johnson, the Corpus Christi Caller Times reported.Leaders of the NAACP's H. Boyd Hall Chapter held a press conference Monday morning over the police-involved shooting, the Caller Times said, adding that the organization noted in a press release that “we understand that there has been another shooting of a black man by CCPD. We have been in touch with the chief and have requested a thorough and independent investigation to ensure the truth of what happened is ultimately discovered."How are observers reacting?Well over 200 comments have appeared underneath the Corpus Christi Police Department's Facebook post about the shooting, and they appear decidedly mixed; some support the officer's actions while others have questions. Here are a couple that reflect the breakdown:"Was the gun pointed at the cop?" one commenter wondered. "Did he try to get the kid to put the gun down first, or did he just shoot? So many questions.... I think police like to shoot first and ask questions later.""If someone points a gun at an officer it's called self defense; if someone points a gun at someone else it's called self defense in the third person," another commenter said. "Police serve and protect. While many Democrats are celebrating a surge in support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, CNN's polling analyst Harry Enten warns them that former President Donald Trump is likely to gain support based on historical trends.Enten made the case for the race tightening up on CNN Tuesday. While Harris is ahead in three swing states — Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — Enten pointed out that polling underestimated Trump's favorability in those states by 9% on average in 2016 and by 5% in 2020. "The bottom line is this: If you have an idea, if you're a Kamala Harris fan and you wanna rip open the champagne bottle, pop that cork, do not do it. Donald Trump is very much in this race. If we have a polling shift like we've seen in prior years from now until the final result, Donald Trump would actually win." Enten then pointed to polling that showed enthusiasm for Biden's re-election campaign had actually dropped slightly after Harris seized the nomination, while enthusiasm for Trump had actually increased in the same period. "The bottom line here is yes, there may be more enthusiasm for Kamala Harris, but the fact is we're not seeing that necessarily translate in the almost-certain-to-vote," he explained. Finally, Enten argued that Trump is more popular generally at this point in the 2024 campaign than he was at the same point in 2020 and at the same point in 2016. A St. Louis branch of Life Time Fitness has come under fire after it allegedly adopted a policy that allowed transgender women into the female locker rooms. The policy ended up empowering a 52-year-old transgender woman, who entered the women’s locker room and proceeded to waltz around in a bikini. “I look over and I see, you know what I believe to be a man walking in a bikini. He had the full genitalia, the male genitalia,” Cindy Zykan told Jason Whitlock in a recent interview on “Fearless.” Zykan had received social media threats from the man, who goes by Eris Montano, after she complained. Montano also attempted to visit Zykan’s home in order to intimidate her and her husband, which forced her to file a restraining order. “This man, who was married for twenty-three years, had a child with his wife of twenty-three years, his wife worked at Life Time Fitness, the man was a member of Life Time Fitness, previously under his male identity,” Jason Whitlock tells Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson of “Blaze News Tonight.” “He’s been recently divorced and has decided he’s a woman,” he adds. Zykan’s complaint resulted in about a week of the man, who is homeless, camping out at the gym in his car — where protests then ensued. “We’ve seen similar weird things happen at Planet Fitness and other places that are allowing these mentally disturbed people to do this,” Peterson comments, before asking Whitlock how Life Time Fitness responded. “I think the actual people that work at Life Time Fitness, most of them were sympathetic to their membership, who thought this was outrageous. This guy is showering and grooming with women and children in that locker room,” Whitlock says. While Life Time Fitness was simply pandering to the transgender agenda that’s been shoved down the country’s throat, it ended up kicking the man out of the club via police force after his threatening social media posts. While it took a little longer than it should, Whitlock believes that was the right course of action. Though he thinks as a society, we should take it one step further. “We need to start treating these people that have these gender identity issues like they have some mental concerns that need to be treated,” Whitlock concludes.
