Jerry West, an NBA Hall-of-Famer and the man widely considered to be the player depicted in the NBA logo, died on Wednesday morning. He was 86-years-old. West, who played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers, was an NBA all-star in each of his 14 seasons and won one championship in his nine NBA Finals appearances. The former Lakers guard was the third player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points and the only player to win a Finals MVP after losing the NBA championship. West was also part of the front office, which put together the all-time great duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal and hired head coach Phil Jackson. Republicans in Congress unveiled a bill on Wednesday geared toward getting rid of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal bureaucracy that have been embraced by the Biden administration. The 48-page bill seeks to “ensure equal protection of the law, to prevent racism in the Federal Government.” It targets not only federal offices and personnel but also training, contractors, grants, advisory committees, education, and other matters. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who is a contender to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate in this year’s election, introduced the “Dismantle DEI Act” in the Senate while Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX) introduced the House version. “The DEI agenda is a destructive ideology that breeds hatred and racial division. It has no place in our federal government or anywhere else in our society,” Vance said in a statement accompanying the release of the legislation. President Joe Biden has signed multiple executive orders to infuse DEI into the federal bureaucracy. In a recent speech, Biden said the values of DEI “are the core strength of America” and touted having the “most diverse administration in history.” As reported by The Daily Wire, the Biden administration has leveraged race and sexuality-based employee associations to push for leftwing policies within the administrative state. A prior GOP bill sought to cut funding to medical schools incorporating DEI. Vance’s office said in a press release that his more sweeping bill would nix certain executive orders, terminate chief diversity officers, end critical race theory trainings, ban mandatory employee DEI pledges, and revoke DEI funding for federal agencies. The bill would also cease federal contracts to companies that have “prohibited DEI practices,” prevent federal grant recipients across multiple injustices from employing DEI policies, and crack down on DEI-supporting educational accreditation agencies. Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), and Rick Scott (R-FL) are co-sponsors of the anti-DEI bill in the Democrat-controlled Senate. The legislation has 15 co-sponsors in the GOP-led House.

But now, the pendulum has swung too far to the other side. You can’t criticize someone like Lizzo because she’s a “body positivity icon.” Second, Link brings up the fact that it’s much easier, cheaper, and accessible to order a Big Mac than to find organic food. A doctor in Newcastle, England, recently posted a photo that still has the internet puzzled: an abandoned goldfish lying on his lawn! 33-year-old Dr. Ben Beska was extremely confused when he found the literal fish out of water in his backyard. As he explained in a social media post, he didn’t know of any ponds near his home. He had no idea how the goldfish ended up in the grass, nor how the animal was still alive! However, he did know it was up to him to rescue this poor goldfish. “So today I found a goldfish just on the grass in my back garden,” Dr. Beska wrote in his social media post. “It was alive, I think, and have absolutely no idea where it came from. There’s no ponds anywhere near. So I took it inside…” He included a picture of the goldfish on his lawn before the rescue. This post has received over 24 million views from equally perplexed users. Dr. Beska spoke to the BBC about his new pet. When he initially found the goldfish on the lawn, he rushed the animal into the most suitable container of water he could scare up. This happened to be a freezer drawer. However, once the urgent part of the goldfish rescue was over, he immediately went out and bought a more sustainable tank. Much happier in an actual and hastily bought tank. After getting the fish situated, Dr. Beska decided to name her Alice. Apparently, he’d texted a friend about the goldfish on his lawn, intending to write “it’s alive.” Instead, though, his phone autocorrected this to “it’s alice.” So, that became her name! The internet can’t stop talking about this mysterious goldfish. One thing that surprised Dr. Beska was just how many people were invested in the social media post he made about the goldfish he discovered on his lawn. X “It’s been quite funny, some of the comments are quite funny and about 1,000 people said they thought a bird dropped it,” he told the BBC. In fact, he received this type of comment so often that he started to get a little tongue-in-cheek with his responses. “No it walked into my garden,” he replied to one user. To another, he wrote, “no sorry you’re wrong fish often walk wild in the enclosed back gardens of Northumberland.” However this goldfish ended up on the man’s lawn, we’re so glad that he decided to rescue her.
