Too Cool: Divers Discover Alien-Like Jellyfish While Exploring At Night

What better way to explore the world than by scuba diving? With over 80% of the Earth’s oceans remaining unexplored, there is so much left to discover. Even the creatures we have found can come as a great surprise, given how unusual they look. Luckily for a man named Zach, he managed to come across one of these bizarre creatures during a night dive. Zach is no stranger to exploring the ocean. He not only dives for himself, but he also provides scuba tours in the San Diego area. Although he’s come across many creatures in his life, none have ever looked quite like this jellyfish. With lots of long, thin legs and a translucent body, Zach had to capture it on camera. See this unusual jellyfish for yourself in the video below. @zachsscubashack Scrippsia pacifica is the name of this beautiful specimen. #LaJollaDive #ZachsScubaShack ♬ Interstellar on Piano – Andy Morris San Diego Resident Discovers Alien-Like Creature During Night Dive Even a professional diver like Zach was unable to identify this jellyfish alone. Eventually, he was able to figure out that it’s called Scrippsia pacifica. It seems these sci-fi-like creatures are often found in deeper waters, though it’s possible to find them closer to the surface. As Zach noted, there’s not a lot of info out there on them. According to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, scientists have estimated that 91% of ocean species have not been classified. And with the little info Zach was able to find on the Scrippsia pacifica, it goes to show there’s still much to learn about the creatures we do know about, too. Plus, Zach isn’t the only diver with an incredible discovery. One off the coast of Mexico found what is called a “Rainbow Tripod Fish.” Meanwhile, a fisherman found what he initially thought was seaweed, only to discover it’s an animal! How cool are the creatures we get to share this world with? You can find the source of this story’s featured image here! Bizarre Cases of Strange and Horrific Deaths, “Satan”, and Heavy Metal Music!

Rightly or wrongly, such concepts as Satan or The Devil have always resonated very nicely with rock music, perhaps particularly with heavy metal music. From bands with such dark names as Black Sabbath, Slayer, or Megadeth, to bands such as Kiss or performers like Alice Cooper, whose stage shows often lean heavily into horror-movie-type imagery, the Devil and Satanism have seemingly gone hand in hand.

Book Review: “Expatriates” by James Wesley Rawles

James Wesley Rawles. The name is synonymous with “survival” and in his book Expatriates: A Novel of the Coming Global Collapse he continues providing the same reliable information we’ve come to expect from his previous books. Expatriates takes place in different settings across the world in the aftermath of a global economic collapse.  One thing that is very timely, considering the recent activities of ISIS, is an Indonesian Muslim attack on Australia and the Philipines, where we find several displaced American characters. Meanwhile, in the USA, a family in Florida struggles to survive and to help protect their small town against those desperate souls who would pillage it. From Amazon: Their America is gone forever After the United States suffers a major socio-economic meltdown, a power vacuum sweeps the globe. A newly-radicalized Islamic government has risen in Indonesia and—after invading the Philippines, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea—sets its sights on Australia. No longer protected by American military interests, Australia must repel an invasion alone. In the thick of it all, Peter and Rhiannon Jeffords, American Christian missionaries in the Philippines, and Chuck Nolan, a Texan petroleum engineer in Australia, find themselves adrift in a world in flux. Chronicling the Jeffords’ and Nolan’s fight against Indonesia’s merciless advances, Expatriates is a riveting thriller and a powerful depiction of the authentic skills and techniques needed to survive the collapse of modern civilization. As with his previous books, Patriots  and Survivors, Rawles’ strong faith takes a starring role in the book, coming to life in his characters. You can definitely see evidence of the author’s military background throughout the book.  The tactics used in particular by the characters in Australia provide some thought-provoking ideas for defense here at home.  I can’t say much without spoiling the plot, but think “perimeter defense instruction manual” and you’ve got the right idea. One thing that is consistent throughout Rawles’ novels is that he provides a great deal of sound survival information, worked into the story.  Because the settings are tropical, there’s some information in there about storing food and goods in hot, humid climates that I had not considered previously.  There is also a great deal of information about using a boat as a bug-out vehicle, which wouldn’t work for those of us who are landlocked, but might do very well for people near the shore. The characters’ shopping lists could well be adapted to many different situations, and they are complete with brand names. I noticed that some folks who reviewed the book criticized this as “product placement” but I don’t believe that is the case. I believe that he was being as specific as possible and including these very valuable details so that readers who were interested to could acquire such supplies for themselves. If you’re looking for a survival novel with a lot of technical and tactical information, as well as some moral lessons, check out Expatriates: A Novel of the Coming Global Collapse.  It’s a work of fiction, but it’s loaded with solid information that many will be able to apply to their own preparedness endeavours.  It’s sure to become another prepper classic. If you enjoy the lists and survival information, be sure to check out Rawles’ non-fiction options. My all-time favorite book by Rawles has to be the oldie but goodie, How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times, and another good one is Tools for Survival: What You Need to Survive When You’re on Your Own. James Wesley Rawles’ website is Survival Blog, and it is probably the biggest compendium of survival information on the net. It’s updated every day with excellent new content. Did you read this? Have you read this book? What did you think of it? Which of Rawles’ books is your favorite? Let’s discuss it in the comments section. All of Rawles’ books are available through Amazon: Expatriates: A Novel of the Coming Global Collapse Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse Founders: A Novel of the Coming Collapse Survivors: A Novel of the Coming Collapse How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It: Tactics, Techniques, and Technologies for Uncertain Times Tools for Survival: What You Need to Survive When You’re on Your Own About Daisy Daisy Luther is a coffee-swigging, adventure-seeking, globe-trotting blogger. Gladiator sarcophagus found in ancient Ephesus

Archaeologists excavating the site of ancient Ephesus in modern-day Selçuk, western Turkey, have unearthed a 3rd century A.D. sarcophagus that originally belonged to a gladiator. His remains were not found, because in the 5th century the sarcophagus was reused to bury 12 bodies. An inscription on the outside of the sarcophagus identifies the original occupant as a gladiator named Euphrates. When it was recycled two centuries after his death, three crosses were carved inside the sarcophagus. More crosses were carved into the lid later, perhaps in the 7th and 8th centuries. [Excavation leader Sinan] Mimaroglu expressed astonishment at finding a water channel, a drainage system, mosaics, and several tombs just 20 centimeters below the surface. “We found one tomb and three tomb-like structures, with 12 individuals inside. This indicates a collective burial,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of this Roman tomb, which has exquisite epigraphic inscriptions and Christian symbols added during its later use. Mimaroglu provided information about the church associated with the tomb. Initially a small burial structure, it was later converted into a wooden-roofed basilica and eventually into a domed church during the reign of Emperor Justinian I. He noted, “The burials inside the church likely belong to the upper class or clergy, as it’s unlikely an ordinary person would be buried in such a meticulous manner within a church.” Archaeologists have not yet found any directly comparable examples of tombs like this one elsewhere. Tombs with similar cross reliefs but made of lower quality materials have been found in Istanbul. Tombs made of comparable materials have been found on Marmara Island and in Syria, but in those cases the design of the crosses is different. The Ayasuluk Hill and 6th century basilica of St. John area was first excavated in the 1921-2 and evidence going as far back as the 2nd millennium B.C. has been unearthed since then. The early Bronze Age settlement on Ayasuluk Hill is thought to have been Apasa, the capital of the independent kingdom of Arzaw, and a burial ground from the Mycenaean era (1500–1400 B.C.) was discovered near the church. The ancient Greek city of Ephesus was found on Ayasuluk Hill in the 10th century B.C. The current excavation was spurred by a 2023 georadar study of the area that confirmed the location of imperial and early Byzantine remains. In addition to the gladiator’s tomb, archaeologists found a marble floor dating to the 6th century, the period when Byzantine Emperor Justinian I built the basilica of St. John on the site where John the Apostle was supposed to have been buried. They also found a marble floor from the 5th century.
