EXCLUSIVE: Lawmakers Receive Warning on Kamala Harris’ Record as ‘Border Czar’

Every member of the House and Senate received a memo on Thursday detailing Vice President Kamala Harris’ record on border and immigration policy.  “There is no question that President [Joe] Biden tasked Kamala Harris with ‘securing the border,’ and there is no doubt that she has FAILED to secure the border and keep the American people safe,” Advancing American Freedom tells lawmakers in the one-page memo.  Despite claims that Harris was never named the “border czar,” Advancing American Freedom, a conservative policy organization, aims to prove otherwise, citing Biden’s announcement on March 24, 2021, that Harris will “lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle” of Central America. On that same day, Harris wrote on social media that Biden “asked me to lead our diplomatic work with Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. To address the situation at the southern border, we have to address the root causes of migration. It won’t be easy work—but it’s necessary.” .@POTUS asked me to lead our diplomatic work with Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. To address the situation at the southern border, we have to address the root causes of migration. It won’t be easy work—but it's necessary.— Vice President Kamala Harris (@VP) March 25, 2021 “The liberal media is attempting to gaslight the American people into the lie that Vice President Harris has nothing to do with the Biden-Harris border crisis,” Paul Teller, executive director of Advancing American Freedom, told The Daily Signal. In March 2021, more than 173,000 illegal aliens were encountered at the southern border, and encounters continued to climb for the following four months before declining slightly in August 2021.  “Under her tenure as Border Czar, [Customs and Border Protection] has encountered over 8 MILLION illegal aliens on the Southwest border, and the Southwest border has exceeded 173k encounters in 31 out of the 40 months that Kamala Harris has been Border Czar,” the group tells lawmakers in the memo.  AAF YES Kamala Was Border CzarDownload Citing a January 2024 report from the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, Advancing American Freedom tells lawmakers that illegal immigrants receive “$42 billion in welfare a year and the cost of educating the children of illegal aliens’ totals $60 billion per year.” Americans are “bearing the brunt of the Biden border crisis,” according to the conservative policy organization, citing the slayings of three American women and girls—Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, all thought to have been killed at the hands of illegal immigrants.  An illegal alien from Venezuela is charged in the February killing of Riley, 22, a nursing student at Augusta University in Georgia, who was bludgeoned to death while she was out for a jog on the University of Georgia  campus.  Illegal aliens Franklin Jose Peña Ramos  and Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel have been charged with capital murder in the death of 12-year-old Nungaray in Houston. Nungaray’s body was found in a creek on June 17.  Also in June, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador was arrested on charges of raping and killing Maryland mother of five Morin.  “This memo will remind members of Congress and the American people of the truth,” Teller said. “Harris is the record-setting border czar and everyday Americans—Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and countless others—have paid the ultimate price for the Biden-Harris administration’s refusal to secure the Southern border and protect innocent Americans.”  The post EXCLUSIVE: Lawmakers Receive Warning on Kamala Harris’ Record as ‘Border Czar’ appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Dr. Donald Hoffman’s: Consciousness Shapes Reality, Not the Brain

Renowned scientist Dr. Donald Hoffman proposes a revolutionary perspective on the nature of consciousness. Hoffman argues that, contrary to conventional wisdom, it is actually consciousness that gives rise to our brains and shapes the reality we experience. Dr. Hoffman argues that consciousness does not emerge from the biological processes within our cells, neurons, or the chemistry of the brain. It transcends the physical realm entirely. “Consciousness creates our brains, not our brains creating consciousness,” he says. His groundbreaking work employs evolutionary game theory to support the idea that human perception is not a window into reality as it is, but rather a construction shaped by the necessities of survival. According to Hoffman, evolution has not equipped us to perceive the world in its true form. Instead, our senses and cognitive processes have evolved to create a simplified, utilitarian representation of the world—one that is tailored to meet our immediate needs and enhance our chances of survival. This means that what we consider to be the “physical” world is, in fact, a projection constructed by our minds. Our brains have evolved to filter out any information that does not directly contribute to our survival, resulting in a highly selective and limited view of reality. Consequently, the scientific models and theories we develop are based not on the universe itself, but on our brains’ interpretations and projections of it. Science, as it stands, remains constrained by the concepts of space and time, which are merely constructs of our perception, rather than reflecting a deeper, more fundamental reality. Hoffman suggests that consciousness is not a physical phenomenon but is instead something far more elusive—potentially akin to dark matter or some other unknown entity. He posits that what we experience as consciousness might be part of a vast “conscious network,” with our brains functioning as interfaces that connect to this network. In this view, consciousness is not generated by the brain but flows through it, and when we die, this consciousness may persist within the network, independent of our physical existence. MSNBC Selectively Edits Vance To Label Him 'Entirely False' On Walz's Military Record

The first rule of fact-checking is to examine what the person you are fact-checking actually said, but MSNBC’s Ali Velshi broke this simple rule on Wednesday as he guest-hosted Alex Wagner Tonight and took GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance out of context in order to rule him “entirely false” for condemning his Democratic counterpart, Tim Walz, for misrepresenting his military service. Velshi teed up a clip of Vance by claiming, “It does seem that both JD Vance and Donald Trump have found potentially potent lines of attack. The issue with those lines of attack, of course, is that they are entirely false.”     In the clip, Vance accused Walz of retiring from the National Guard in order to avoid service in Iraq: What really bothers me about Tim Walz, it's not even the positions that he's taken, though certainly he has been a far-left radical, you know what bothers me about Tim Walz, as a Marine who served his country in uniform? When the United States Marine Corps, when the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it. I did what they asked me to do and I did it honorably, and I'm very proud of that service. When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq? You know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him. What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage. Do not pretend to be something that you're not. Vance also cited Walz justifying his calls for gun control by claiming he simply wants to ban weapons he carried “in war,” but Velshi didn’t play that part and completely ignored Walz’s claim. Instead, Velshi fact-checked a straw man: [Walz] responded to floods and tornadoes and he spent months on active duty overseas doing things like training our NATO allies in Italy. Now, Walz has never claimed that he had a combat role in the military. He's never had one. But that's not the point, because there's an understanding among people who served this country in the military that you have answered a sacred call no matter what you are, whether you're in reserve or you're active duty, no matter whether you're a cook or mechanic or fighter pilot, no matter whether you serve at home or abroad, you see combat or not. Tim Walz never saw combat. But you know who else didn't see combat? JD Vance. Vance was a civil affairs Marine who took photos, wrote stories, and escorted journalists around Iraq. But that doesn't matter because neither of these two men have ever pretended they had combat roles. They both had incredibly important non-combat roles, and they are both veterans. And we should be grateful to both of them for their service to this nation. Velshi is correct, if Walz had just said, “I served in the National Guard for 24 years,” even Republicans would find that admirable, but he embellished his record in order to create a fallacious appeal to authority argument in favor of gun control, and that’s the problem. Walz also embellished his rank, but, again, Velshi ignored that, “The only reason Walz ultimately left the National Guard was to run for Congress. I mean, to go back and listen to how he presented himself even in that very first run for office, doesn't sound like stolen valor to me.” Irony officially being dead, Velshi played a radio of Walz’s 2006 congressional campaign, “I am a retired command sergeant major in the Minnesota National Guard.” Before he appoints himself the guardian of truth, Velshi should at least learn what the definitions of “entirely” and “false” are. Here is a transcript for the August 7 show: MSNBC Alex Wagner Tonight 8/7/2024 9:02 PM ET ALI VELSHI: It does seem that both JD Vance and Donald Trump have found potentially potent lines of attack. The issue with those lines of attack, of course, is that they are entirely false. JD VANCE: What really bothers me about Tim Walz, it's not even the positions that he's taken, though certainly he has been a far-left radical, you know what bothers me about Tim Walz, as a Marine who served his country in uniform? When the United States Marine Corps, when the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it. I did what they asked me to do and I did it honorably, and I'm very proud of that service. When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq? You know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him. What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage. Do not pretend to be something that you're not. VELSHI: Do not pretend to be something you're not. We’re just going to put that aside as it relates to JD Vance for a little while because I want to talk about this particular issue. On its face, with no context or fact-checking, that line of attack, the idea that governor Tim Walz is lying about his military service, is potent. We saw an incredibly similar fabricated line of attack in 2004 against the then-Democratic nominee for president, John Kerry. And those completely made-up attacks led to nearly 20 percent of voters saying they didn't think that Kerry deserved his war medals.  I should note that the one person who orchestrated that fabricated line of attack against John Kerry was Chris LaCivita, who is now Donald Trump's chief campaign strategist, but like in Kerry's case back in 2004, this allegation of stolen valor against Walz is just wrong. Tim Walz served in the National Guard for 24 years. He responded to floods and tornadoes and he spent months on active duty overseas doing things like training our NATO allies in Italy. The only reason Walz ultimately left the National Guard was to run for Congress. I mean, to go back and listen to how he presented himself even in that very first run for office, doesn't sound like stolen valor to me. TIM WALZ [2006]: I am a retired command sergeant major in the Minnesota National Guard. And after years of firing artillery, I sustained severe inner ear damage. Because I have good health insurance provided through my employer, I was able to have surgery on my ear. As my ear healed, my hearing was gradually restored.  One morning several weeks after the surgery, I awoke to a sound I couldn't identify. I asked my wife what I was hearing and she told me, "Tim, that's your 4-year-old daughter, Hope." You see, Hope wakes up singing every morning, but I had never heard that sound until that day. I’m running for Congress because I believe we as a country have a moral obligation to ensure that every father can hear his daughter sing, that every citizen receives the best care our medical community has to offer. I’m Tim Walz, and I approve this message because I've heard how important healthcare is to everyone.

PBS: Hamas Slaughter ‘Was Denounced as Terrorism’ by US, But Gave Lebanese ‘Hope’

PBS “special correspondent” Simona Foltyn, who covers the Middle East, appeared on Tuesday’s edition of the taxpayer-funded PBS News Hour to make the case for the anti-Jewish terrorist group Hamas, after the assassination of Hamas terrorist chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Anchor Amna Nawaz introduced the report from Lebanon by making the familiar fatalist argument that there’s no point in killing Hamas leaders because it only strengthens the Palestinian populace against Israel. Nawaz explained that Foltyn (who has a virulently anti-Israel X feed) had gained “rare access” to factions of “the militant group” Hamas within Lebanon for her report. You gain access by sounding like a propagandist.  Simona Foltyn: A show of defiance in the Lebanese city of Sour, after Israel's killing in Tehran of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh. Rafat Morra, Hamas Official (through interpreter): The resistance remains strong and will continue. This resistance will continue until the removal of this Israeli occupation and the complete defeat of the occupation from the entire Palestinian national territory. Foltyn: Rallies in support of Hamas have been taking place throughout Southern Lebanon since the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. The message is that his demise will not weaken Hamas, nor will it lessen its struggle for Palestinian liberation, a liberation these men and women have awaited for decades…. Folytn committed an ideologically corrupted definition of the word “refugee,” one that only seems to apply to Palestinians. She referred to a 22-year-old woman as a refugee, though she was in fact merely a “descendant of Palestinians expelled in 1948, when Israel was created” and had “never set foot in Palestinian land." That’s not a refugee. The woman lauded the assassinated terrorist leader: "Since our childhood, Haniyeh has influenced us a lot. All our leaders, not just Haniyeh, have taught us that we should hold on to the resistance, no matter what the enemy does." It continued:  Foltyn: Hamas' October 7 attack on Southern Israel was denounced as terrorism by the United States and other Western nations. But, here, it sparked a different sentiment, something Palestinians hadn't felt in decades, hope. She met up with an anonymized Hamas fighter and used the same “resistance” terminology the Hamas terrorists used. Foltyn: Do you think that, since October 7, there is greater support for armed resistance? Hamas fighter (through interpreter): Yes. Of course there was support before, but not as much as we are seeing now. There was a general mobilization a month after the events of October 7. Pretty much all the youth in this camp signed up to join Hamas. Foltyn, who worked for the virulently anti-Israel outlet Arab news network Al-Jazeera English from 2019 to 2021 (on the Iraq beat), continued the disgusting moral equivalence, equating the psychotic Jewish killers of Hamas as “resistance” to the “Zionist entity.” Foltyn: Rising support for the resistance is visible in plain sight. The camp is run by Fatah, which was co-founded by Yasser Arafat and has led the Palestinian Authority since its creation. But Hamas has been gaining ground here, chipping away at Fatah's status as the guardian of the Palestinian cause…. She quoted Munir Maqdah, a leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a branch of Fatah founded during the second Palestinian "uprising" (i.e. Israel-targeted terrorist wave) of the early 2000s. Foltyn: Words that are finding fertile ground among disenfranchised Palestinian youth. But mobilization inside the camp is a delicate matter. It risks drawing Israeli airstrikes and alienating the Lebanese government, which sees it as a violation of its sovereignty. To get a glimpse into the secretive recruitment process, I visit a mosque in a neighborhood that is a Hamas stronghold. Hassan Shanaa, a local Hamas official, tells me that hundreds of young men have approached him since October ready to take up arms against Israel, what they call the Zionist entity. Foltyn did make one admission -- Hamas is “an Islamist movement” unlike its more secular rivals Fatah -- before concluding: Foltyn: Hamas is trying to capitalize on the youth's newfound zeal to obtain with force what hasn't been achieved with words… This segment giving the Hamas perspective was brought to you in part by Raymond James. A transcript is available: PBS News Hour 8/5/24 7:42:40 p.m. (ET) Amna Nawaz: The killing of a top Hamas leader last week shook a Middle East already scarred by a war that the militant group launched last October 7. The past 10 bloody months have also galvanized Palestinian populations beyond Gaza and the West Bank, especially in Lebanon. Factions of Hamas have also made it home. And special correspondent Simona Foltyn recently gained rare access to its operations there for this report. Simona Foltyn: A show of defiance in the Lebanese city of Sour after Israel's killing in Tehran of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh. Rafat Morra, Hamas Official (through interpreter): The resistance remains strong and will continue. This resistance will continue until the removal of this Israeli occupation and the complete defeat of the occupation from the entire Palestinian national territory. Simona Foltyn: Rallies in support of Hamas have been taking place throughout Southern Lebanon since the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. The message is that his demise will not weaken Hamas, nor will it lessen its struggle for Palestinian liberation, a liberation these men and women have awaited for decades. They are refugees, descendants of Palestinians expelled in 1948, when Israel was created. Rayyan is 22 years old. She never set foot on Palestinian land, but is no less attached to the cause. Rayyan Hafiyan, Palestinian Refugee (through interpreter): Since our childhood, Haniyeh has influenced us a lot. All our leaders, not just Haniyeh, have taught us that we should hold on to the resistance, no matter what the enemy does. Simona Foltyn: Hamas' October 7 attack on Southern Israel was denounced as terrorism by the United States and other Western nations. But, here, it sparked a different sentiment, something Palestinians hadn't felt in decades, hope. Rayyan Hafiyan (through interpreter): From when I was little, we have had the hope of returning and living in our homeland. And, God willing, this day will come. Simona Foltyn: I want to know if this is a broader trend among the Palestinian diaspora in Lebanon and travel to Saida, home to the largest Palestinian refugee camp. Past the checkpoint of the Lebanese army, it feels as if we've crossed into another country. The camp is called Ain al-Helweh. Around 120,000 people live here in perpetual exile, crammed into less than half-a-square-mile, a pressure cooker with poor services, few jobs, and no prospects. Now that frustration has found an outlet. I'm meeting a Hamas fighter who requested anonymity because he spoke outside the chain of command. Do you think that, since October 7, there is greater support for armed resistance? Hamas fighter (through interpreter): Yes. Of course there was support before, but not as much as we are seeing now. There was a general mobilization a month after the events of October 7. Pretty much all the youth in this camp signed up to join Hamas. Simona Foltyn: Rising support for the resistance is visible in plain sight. The camp is run by Fatah, which was co-founded by Yasser Arafat and has led the Palestinian Authority since its creation. But Hamas has been gaining ground here, chipping away at Fatah's status as the guardian of the Palestinian cause, its green colors gradually usurping Fatah's yellow. The green flag of Hamas and other symbols like these posters of its military spokesperson Abu Obaida, have spread throughout the camp since October 7, signaling growing support for armed resistance, even in areas that were not traditionally dominated by Hamas. Fatah has been losing legitimacy for years now amid accusations of rampant corruption and its failure to achieve Palestinian statehood in the wake of the 1993 Oslo Accords, as part of which it renounced violence in return for recognition and the nominal authority to govern. But some within Fatah never laid down arms, like Munir Maqdah, the most senior Fatah military official in the camp. Munir Maqdah, Fatah Military Commander (through interpreter): We participate in daily military action inside the West Bank in the face of Israeli occupation.   Simona Foltyn: Maqdah is a leader in the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a branch of Fatah founded during the second Palestinian uprising of the early 2000s. He points to Israel's continued occupation and settlement of Palestinian land in the West Bank as evidence that the Oslo Accords have failed. Munir Maqdah (through interpreter): Negotiations have been tried for 30 years and will not give the Palestinian people anything. The Palestinian people have no choice but to take their rights by force and blood. Today, it's blood for blood until we get rid of this occupation in the land of Palestine. Simona Foltyn: Words that are finding fertile ground among disenfranchised Palestinian youth. Hassan Shanaa, Hamas Official (through interpreter): There is a large number of young people who want to join the movement to fight, not to enter the movement and go through the recruitment process. No, they wanted us to give them weapons and go to Palestine through Southern Lebanon, so they can fight the Zionist entity. Simona Foltyn: The selection process can span years, with new recruits vetted at multiple stages. Religious instruction is at the very core of joining Hamas, which, unlike the more secular Fatah, is an Islamist movement. Hassan Shanaa (through interpreter): First of all, he has to be committed and pray and take lessons with us. If his foundations and goals are where they should be, he will go out to the second stage and maybe take a special lesson. Simona Foltyn: The next stage is military training, which is where it gets more complicated. Hamas doesn't enjoy Fatah's status as the security provider in the camps, and isn't officially allowed to maintain an armed presence inside Lebanon. But I met one new joiner who took part in covert training exercises, which take place in coordination with Hamas ally Lebanese paramilitary group Hezbollah. Hamas recruit (through interpreter): They teach us about weapons, how to take them apart and put them together, about bombs, these kinds of things. Simona Foltyn: And this training is inside the camp or outside? Hamas recruit (through interpreter): No, we go out and come back. I went out two, three times and came back. Simona Foltyn: Have a lot of your friends joined Hamas? Hamas recruit (through interpreter): There are many, a lot. All were encouraged after October 7. Simona Foltyn: Hamas is trying to capitalize on the youth's newfound zeal to obtain with force what hasn't been achieved with words. For Hassan Shanaa, the death and destruction in Gaza are a price worth paying. Hassan Shanaa (through interpreter): The Zionist entity and the American administration were betting that adults here would die and children would forget. We say to the whole world, despite the tragedy, the massacres, the killing and the destruction, there's no alternative homeland to Palestine except Palestine. Simona Foltyn: Haniyeh's assassination has for now dashed hopes for a cease-fire. Many here see armed struggle as the only way forward. For the "PBS News Hour," I'm Simona Foltyn in Ain al-Helweh, Lebanon.

Every time 'Tampon Tim' Walz told us EXACTLY who he is

While the media paints Kamala’s VP pick Tim Walz as a lovable, folksy, “Midwestern dad,” they’re working overtime to paint JD Vance as a “weird” “white supremacist.” But per usual, neither could be further from the truth. And in Walz’s case, Glenn Beck has the receipts that Walz is much more a radical, socialist creep than a lovable, folksy dad. “We’re there to protect children. We’re there to have you understand that in Minnesota, you’re going to be protected. And I just want to be clear, I will never understand what goes into the thinking of these folks to bully these children,” Walz said in a segment on CNN. “The trans community is as terrified as they’ve ever been. We’ve seen attacks across the nation, even here in Minnesota, and we’re now saying we have to be much more proactive, we have to be much more aggressive about making sure that folks are protected,” Walz continued. “Children have a right to have their noodles cut off or their breasts removed,” Glenn comments, mocking Walz. But his take on the “trans community” is far from the worst of it. “He had more nursing home deaths in his state than they had in New York under Cuomo,” Glenn says, adding, “He was a total authoritarian and locked everything down. But he went the extra mile here.” Glenn is referring to the hotline that encouraged Minnesotans to snitch on their neighbors who weren’t following the government’s COVID lockdown orders. Walz, who obviously knows a lot about being a good neighbor, also went on record to say that “one person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.” “Amen, amen,” Glenn laughs sarcastically, adding that Walz has also pledged that there will be no gasoline-run cars in the state of Minnesota by 2035. “It’s just so crazy what people are saying about him now,” Glenn says. “I’d like to call him the name that people call him in the state occasionally and that’s Tampon Tim. Which I think is very dignified and shows what he’s for and that is tampons in boy restrooms.” Want more from Glenn Beck?To enjoy more of Glenn’s masterful storytelling, thought-provoking analysis, and uncanny ability to make sense of the chaos, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

Illegal alien with suspected gang ties remains in US despite committing 'at least 22 criminal offenses': Report

A Venezuelan national who illegally snuck into the United States may not be deported despite committing "at least 22 criminal offenses" in New York City, according to the New York Post and a recent House committee report.A 10-page report from the House Judiciary Committee revealed that the Biden-Harris administration's open-border policies allowed Daniel Hernandez-Martinez — a 30-year-old Venezuelan national with suspected ties to Tren de Aragua, a violent gang — to remain in the country even after being accused of committing a string of crimes.'Threatened and assaulted multiple people.'Hernandez-Martinez was released into the U.S. in early 2023 "without any legal justification," according to the report. It is unclear what vetting procedures were followed when Border Patrol initially encountered him, the report noted.Within his first two months in New York City, Hernandez-Martinez was arrested and released six times for alleged criminal activity, including random attacks on at least three strangers and two New York Police Department officers. "In addition to a string of petty thefts, including 'using a large metal pipe to break locks to steal bicycles in Times Square,' Martinez is alleged to have threatened and assaulted multiple people, including hitting a man with a bike tire, kicking a woman and dragging her by her hair, threatening another person with a chain, and pulling 'out a large knife and advanc[ing] toward an undercover officer,'" the report read.DHS sources told the Post that after his arrest in January, Hernandez-Martinez was deported to Mexico under Title 42. However, he snuck back into the country at a later unknown date and location. The House Judiciary Committee obtained the illegal alien's case history information from the Biden-Harris administration's Department of Homeland Security nearly six months after initially requesting it.After Hernandez-Martinez's seventh encounter with law enforcement in New York City, Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer request; however, the New York City Department of Corrections did not honor the request — as is often the case in sanctuary jurisdictions like New York City."Despite his criminal history and suspected gang affiliation, it remains unclear whether ICE has removed Hernandez-Martinez from the United States," the House Judiciary report stated.According to the Post, Hernandez-Martinez was taken into ICE custody and remains detained in Buffalo, New York. An order for his removal was issued in June, but Venezuela does not accept deportation flights. Sources told the Post that, as a result, the illegal alien will likely remain in the U.S. indefinitely. Venezuelan gang takes over Colorado apartment complex after police fail to address issue, owner says

The owner of an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, is blaming the local police department for the city’s recent shutdown of the location, claiming that law enforcement officials allowed Tren de Aragua, a violent Venezuelan gang, to take over the area, the Sentinel Colorado reported. All of the tenants at the Aspen Grove Apartments will be forced to vacate the property Tuesday after the city declared it uninhabitable. 'They can’t expect these issues to be resolved by landowners.'The owner of the property told the Sentinel Colorado that the location was shut down because the Aurora Police Department failed to curb gang activity. However, city officials are denying the owner’s claims, instead contending that the complex’s property manager is facing court action over a number of health and safety code violations. According to the city, those violations date back to 2019, before TDA was active in the area. Photographs of the complex provided to the news outlet reportedly showed rat, mouse, and cockroach infestations, piled-up trash, and hazardous electrical and plumbing issues. The city maintains that the shutdown is unrelated to any gang activity. It claimed that the owner is using “diversionary tactics” to deflect responsibility for years of “substantial, longstanding, unresolved code violations.”Aurora reportedly sent a “nuisance” letter to the owner and property manager last year warning that the complex could be shut down. However, that order specifically cited the location as a criminal nuisance after the city received more than 100 calls for services from October 2022 to September 2023.The owner argued that those calls were for law enforcement to address.“They can’t expect these issues to be resolved by landowners,” he told Sentinel Colorado. “I told them time and time again, if you guys only took this seriously eight months ago, nine months ago, you probably could have stomped it out with relative ease.”According to the owner, his tenants have told him they have witnessed TDA members break into vacant apartments, patrol the area with rifles, and even threaten residents to pay them rent. Denver Police told the news outlet that “there are reasons to believe” that TDA is tied to some crimes in the area. “Confirming gang affiliation is challenging because suspected members of this gang often give false identities during law enforcement contacts and typically do not admit membership to the gang,” the department noted.Aurora Police did not respond to the Sentinel Colorado’s request for comment.
