“Then I Called Him”: Megan Moroney Confesses To Calling Her Ex After Writing The Country Heartbreaker “I Only Miss You”

I mean, I get it… Megan Moroney has a brand new album Cloud 9 coming out which consists of 15 songs in total, and it has two features from two huge artists in Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran, the latter of which is called “I Only Miss You.” She wrote it with Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter, Micah Carpenter, and Sheeran, and a couple days ago on Instagram, Megan shared a teaser of the song which is a slow ballad that finds her singing about how much she misses her ex, hence the title: “I only miss you when I’m breathing, When my face is far from you, I only miss you when it’s raining, This downpour outside ain’t nothing new, I only miss you when I’m drinking, These days I’m barely getting by, I only miss you when I’m drinking, And baby I’ve been drinking, Because I miss you all the time, Why don’t you come over, My bed keeps getting colder, Put your pretty head on my shoulder, See if over’s really over” During a recent interview, she explained how much detail and effort went into finding the perfect song for them, and in fact, it was Sheeran who wanted to do something much more traditionally country: “At first I was nervous to talk to Ed Sheeran, of course, but he’s an e-mailer, so that takes, kind of, the pressure off. Because I would just not check my email for two weeks, and wouldn’t worry about it. But Ed and I would send back and forth songs… he would send me one and I would be like, ‘I don’t know of this is it.’ I’d send him one and he’s like, ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ After the Bluebird show, he told me that his wife and kids love me and he loves my songwriting, and I’m obviously such a fan of his. So I think we just really wanted to collab together. I definitely trusted Ed after it’s done, like, he made the right decision. The song that we cut is a traditionally country song, it’s not a pop song. From what I know about collabing with pop artists, usually, it’s a tempo pop song with a country voice on it. But he wanted to go the opposite route and do a really traditional country song with his modern pop voice on it. So it made it really interesting, and I ‘m really excited for everyone to hear that one.” It has a beautiful melody and I’m sure Sheeran will have a bigger feature once we hear the full song, and you can listen to it here: View this post on Instagram But the funny part of it is that it got her so much into her feels that Megan says she called her ex after writing it: “You think you can hurt me? I wrote this song then I called him.” It happens… And I don’t think she’ll be one in that once this full song is actually released. after hearing the teaser, it’s probably one of the ones I’m looking forward to hearing the most, and I love the traditional direction they went in with it. Until February 20th when Cloud 9 is released, you can check out the most recent release “Wish I Didn’t” below: “Wish I Didn’t” Cloud 9 Tracklist 1. “Cloud 9” (Megan Moroney, Luke Laird, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Ernest Keith Smith)* 2. “Medicine” (Megan Moroney, Connie Harrington, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Jessi Alexander)* 3. “6 Months Later” (Megan Moroney, Ben Williams, Rob Hatch, and David “Messy” Mescon)* 4. “Stupid” (Megan Moroney, Amy Allen, and David “Messy” Mescon)* 5. “Beautiful Things” (Megan Moroney, Connie Harrington, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Jessi Alexander)* 6. “Convincing” (Megan Moroney, Connie Harrington, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Jessi Alexander)* 7. “Liars & Tigers & Bears” (Megan Moroney, Luke Laird, and Jessie Jo Dillon)* 8. “I Only Miss You (ft. Leah Blevins Finds Hope In The Darkness In Next Single From Forthcoming Album ‘All Dressed Up’

If Leah Blevins isn’t already on your radar, it’s time to change that. The Sandy Hook, Kentucky native is gearing up to release her sophomore album All Dressed Up on March 20th, 2026, which finds her expanding the next chapter of her musical journey with heartfelt songs that explore themes of fear, self-discovery, and leaving the past behind, in addition to relatable stories about life, love, and loss. She grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky, which we all know is the hotbed of the best country music in the world right now, and Leah has an incredibly unique and interesting sound that pulls from gospel and classic country, with a modern twist, that is wrapped in a beautiful vintage, throwback sound that feels very 60s and I can’t get enough. It’s feels so fresh and authentic, and so far, she has released several singles from the album including the title track, “Be Careful Throwing Stones,” and a new one as of yesterday, “Diggin’ in the Coal.” It blends Southern rock with country while still maintaining that vintage sound, and pulls very much from her own personal life as her great-grandfather and her grandmother worked in Kentucky coal mines. She knows you can find “good things in dark places,” and it’s important to hold onto the people and relationships even in dark times. The metaphor and example of a coal mine is very much intrinsic to her story, which certainly works very well on this song: “But if you stick around I just might make it Whenever I get down you help me shake it from soul I guess I found a diamond while I was digging in the coal” She says she always loved the imagery of the “‘canary in a coal mine,” which helped inspire this song she wrote with Dan Auerbach and Pat McLaughlin: “My great grandfather and my granny worked in the coal mines of Kentucky. I remember hearing stories growing up, and there was something about the ‘canary in a coal mine’ imagery that seemed ripe for a song about relationships to me… being a sounding board and support for each other even in dark times.” All Dressed Up was produced by Dan Auerbach, and follows her impressive debut album First Time Feeling that was released in 2021. Blevins says she just writes what she feels, and at the end of the day, her goal is to write honest music that other people can relate to: “I write what I feel, what I think other people feel, too. Dan is someone who gets there’s more to a song than what’s on the surface. He’s not afraid to leave room on the tracks for the emotions to spread out and really color the recording. As a co-writer and producer, he creates something that is almost beyond honest, which I love.” All Dressed Up is slated for release on March 20th, and Leah is certainly an artist to keep your eye on in 2026 if you love honest, authentic country that comes from the heart and is written with an honesty that can only be done through the lens of someone’s lived experiences. You can listen to all of the pre-released singles below. “Diggin’ In The Coal” “All Dressed Up” “Be Careful Throwing Stones” The post Leah Blevins Finds Hope In The Darkness In Next Single From Forthcoming Album ‘All Dressed Up’ first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Brothers Osborne Release Flawless Acoustic Performance Video Of Their Breakthrough Hit, “Stay A Little Longer”

Such a great song. This year, Brothers Osborne are hitting a significant milestone in their career, as their debut album Pawn Shop will turn a decade old in 2026. First released on January 15th, 2016, Pawn Shop put John and T.J. Osborne on the map, showcasing their raw songwriting, incredible guitar solos, and genuine emotion, instantly connecting with fans. With nearly every song on the record written by John and T.J. Osborne, it showcases their willingness to take risks, push boundaries, and create a sound that was authentic to them. The risks paid off: Pawn Shop debuted at number three on the Top Country Albums chart and at 17 on the Billboard 200. The album went RIAA certified Gold a year after its release, and hits like “21 Summer,” “Stay A Little Longer,” and “Rum” are still staples in many country music fans’ playlists. To celebrate and honor what Pawn Shop did for the country music duo, Brothers Osborne announced Pawn Shop (10 Year Anniversary Edition), arriving February 13th via MCA. The album will feature newly released recordings, demos, or live versions from the Pawn Shop era, and in the leadup to that release, they’ve been putting out stripped back live performance videos of songs from the tracklist. And of course, “Stay a Little Longer” was their first big radio single, which was the second single from Pawn Shop. Duo members John and T.J. Osborne co-wrote the song with Shane McAnally, and it was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. In terms of chart success, the song peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Country Airplay, and #1 on the Mediabase chart. It was also a minor crossover success, peaking at #46 on the Billboard Hot 100 all-genre chart a week later. To date, it is their only top 10 hit on both the Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts, and “Stay a Little Longer” was certified Gold by the RIAA in 2015. I vividly remember how much I used to hear it on the radio, and I became an instant fan like so many after hearing it for the first time. In an interview with Rolling Stone years ago, TJ explained the real meaning behind it: “That song gives them everything that we are. It starts off and the verses are really emotional and fragile. You don’t want to be alone, you’re making the phone call, taking the trip to the house and then you’re tearing t-shirts off and it’s this electric thing. But then, boom, you’re by yourself again: ‘I’m lying here wishing you could stay a little longer.'” While they’ve gone on to have great success since this release, it really is the song that started it all in terms of it being their breakout moment, and I can’t get enough of this acoustic rendition… there’s just something about TJ’s distinctively low and gritty baritone that is so striking with an acoustic backing like this. Their harmonies are beautiful, and of course, John absolutely rips. I have to admit, I kind of forgot about this song, but I’m going to have to put it back in my regular rotation because it’s just flawless: “Stay A Little Longer”  The post Brothers Osborne Release Flawless Acoustic Performance Video Of Their Breakthrough Hit, “Stay A Little Longer” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Dolly Parton Says She’s “Outlived So Many Plastic Surgeons” In Video Thanking Fans For All Of The 80th Birthday Wishes

I hope she outlives us all. Dolly Parton turned 80 years young earlier this week, and it of course has me reflecting on some of her most timeless music and how important her story and songs are to the world. She has always been open and honest about many aspects of her life, and especially when it comes to cosmetic and surgical procedures, Dolly has never shied away from the fact that she isn’t afraid of a little nip and tuck or filler if she feels like she needs it. So of course, when it came to celebrating her birthday, Dolly not only spoke about her newly-released reimagined version of her 1977 song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” but she also addressed her age and how she can’t believe she has made it that far: “Well, hey there! It’s Dolly, and I’ve made it! I’m 80 years old. Can you believe that? Anyway, what do you give somebody that’s 80 years old? Well, you don’t take gifts. You give things, and I’m gonna give you the gift of a bunch of friends that stopped by to help me sing on a song called ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning,’ a song I wrote years ago. In fact, it’s 50 years old. We did a new version of it, Kent Wells producing it, and then I’m giving you the gift of Queen Latifah, Reba McEntire, Miley Cyrus and Lainey Wilson, with David Foster playing the piano. and I think really lifts us up this day and time, and Lord knows we could use that, right?” In typical Dolly fashion, she thanked her fans for all of the birthday wishes, and she also joked that if she lives another 80 years, she has her “plastic surgeons in line,” because she has “outlived so many plastic surgeons”: “Anyway, thank you for all the birthday wishes. And I hope I live another 80 years, but I hope I’ve still got my plastic surgeons in line. Oh Lord, I’ve outlived so many plastic surgeons. Well, happy birthday to me!” Spoken like a true queen… I want to be Dolly Parton when I grow up: View this post on Instagram During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in November of 2023, Stern asked Dolly if people call her all the time and ask her for her doctor’s phone number, because she look so incredible and is always keeping up such a beautiful appearance, and she gave an answer that kind of surprised me. While she’s never been shy about admitting she’ll get work done when she feels like she needs it, she cautioned people to be very careful about who they let do it, referencing her friend Kenny Rogers when explaining how people can heal differently, even if you do go to the best of the best plastic surgeon like he did: “I always say, just find the best doctors. Some of my celebrity friends, I give them the names of the doctors that I’ve used. But you’ve just gotta be very careful not to overdo it, ‘cuz you never know, anytime you go under knife, you could come out looking not good. Just like when Kenny Rogers… it’s especially hard for men, because you can’t wear the makeup and all the different eyelashes and stuff, and that was one of the best doctors. You just never know how you’re gonna heal, where it’s gonna go, so you absolutely need to find the best doctors, the most talked about doctors are the ones highly recommended. If you’re gonna do anything about your face, you can cover up stuff if someone screws up things on your body, but boy, if you live with your face out there, you gotta be careful. So I try to do just little bits at a time, I don’t do really big stuff. And then I do fillers, Botox and Juvederm, or whatever, only when I have to. And even then, I try to be careful.” I think Dolly is still absolutely stunning, and the fact that she’s so open, and funny, about everything she’s had done somehow makes her even more endearing and relatable. Just a few days before her birthday, Dolly put out the aforementioned new version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” which features Lainey Wilson, Miley Cyrus, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire on the 50th anniversary of Dolly writing the song. Dolly wanted to continue that incredible giving spirit that has guided her career by donating all net proceeds from the song and its accompanying music video to the pediatric cancer research program at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, a longtime partner and cause close to Parton’s heart.
