‘Watch Something Else’: The View Defends Olympics Drag Show Controversy

On Monday, ABC’s The View attempted to brush off the religious mockery that happened during the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony in Paris, France on Friday. Following the drag show that seemed to ridicule The Last Supper painting, the hosts aimed towards focusing on the “history” of the Olympics and the athletes themselves. The segment began with Whoopi Goldberg describing the “instant controversy over an opening number featuring drag performers that some people said was a blasphemous take on Da Vinci’s painting The Last Supper.” She tried to shrug off the religious controversy by explaining that the organizers apologized:     Now, organizers said, we're sorry, but, you know, the guy who actually put it all together said it was from the Feast of the Gods which is a 17th century Dutch painting of the Greek Olympian gods, you know, the Olympian gods because it's the Olympics. Goldberg continued to complain that people need to stop accusing the drag queens of mocking The Last Supper because “they're not trying to do anything accept talk about the -- the history. They're showing you the history.” Goldberg’s last astute observation was that it can’t be based off of The Last Supper was because “there are more too many people in the picture for it to be the 12 disciples and then the 7 or 8 other people who are in the picture. It’s just more people.” But in reality, her suggestions made no sense since the stage set up didn’t resemble Feast of the Gods at all. There is a stronger resemblance to The Last Supper given the actors were all on one side of the table, and there were no satyrs which are centrally featured in Feast of the Gods. Sarah Haines defended the offensive scene as she professed “the director said it wasn’t what he intended and he also said the mission was inclusion.” She continued to note that the director said he was sorry so we should all move on. Haines, who has previously claimed that she wanted to be a minister went on a rant explaining why she gets so “frustrated” with religion: Don't go – this -- I get so frustrated with religion. Don't go by the literal letter of the Bible. Go by the example of the word which is live with the grace. Live with the forgiveness. Live with -- I was frustrated. You answer and I'm okay with that. I get so tired of being beaten over the head with religious messages while someone walks along their life not living like Jesus at all, like, really understand the mission. Ana Navarro did not want to talk about this religious mockery any longer as she stated “There are young people who train their entire lives to be there, to represent our countries. Can we please give them the focus?” She then went on to name several athletes at the Olympics and asked “Can we talk? Can we give some flowers?” Ending on a confusing note, Navarro said that LeBron James and Coco Gauff “looked like George Washington.” Alyssa Farah Griffin added “I’m sorry there’s nothing more Parisian than like Marie Antoinette's head cut off, metal music playing and then drag queens like that is – that is French that is what they’re going to do.” She went on to exclaim that “there is something for everyone if you didn’t like one thing tune in to something else.” Goldberg concluded “If you are not happy with something, and it bothers you, don't take 20 hours to write an email. Just turn the TV off. Watch something else.” The View has been known previously to push the idea that “everybody belongs at a drag show!” Click "Expand" to view the transcript: ABC The View 7/29/24 11:16:44 - 11:21:03 AM WHOOPI GOLDBERG: So welcome back. Over the weekend, the Olympics kicked off Friday in Paris. [Applause] GOLDBERG: All right. But then there was instant controversy over an opening number featuring drag performers that some people said was a blasphemous take on Da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper." Now, organizers said, we're sorry, but, you know, the guy who actually put it all together said it was from the “Feast of the Gods” which is a 17th century Dutch painting of the Greek Olympian gods, you know, the Olympian gods because it's the Olympics. Okay. And there are many more people in the picture they're talking about here. There's people on the side, you know, and it's, like, come on, y'all. It's the Olympics. Stop. They're not trying to do anything accept talk about the -- the history. They're showing you the history. There are more too many people in the picture for it to be the 12 disciples and then the 7 or 8 other people who are in the picture. It’s just more people. SARAH HAINES: Well and also when you are criticizing religion and people were offended the director said it wasn’t what he intended and he also said the mission was inclusion. Intention matters. He came out and said, that wasn't what I intended. I'm sorry if that what offended you, and this is what I was trying to do. Don't go – this -- I get so frustrated with religion. ANA NAVARRO: If people go look at the original Greek Olympians and what they were doing in pictures, you're going to be even worse. GOLDBERG: Well we can't even show the painting it's based on. NAVARRO: But you know I – so I watched the whole opening ceremony. It was very long. It was, like, over three hours long. This was a very small part of it, and it's what's consumed so much of America, I guess, and I would say, you know, it happens every four years. There are young people who train their entire lives to be there, to represent our countries. Can we please give them the focus? Can we please talk about Simone Biles, her magnificence? How she made the comeback? Can we talk about Suni Lee? This woman had the worst kidney disease and she made a comeback. Oh my God. Hazley Rivera, seventeen years old girl from New Jersey, Dominican descent. Can we talk? Can we give some flowers to – I want to give some flowers to Flavor Flav who decided to pay and sponsor and help the women's -- the U.S. Women's water polo team because they had no money to do this, and Lebron James and Coco Gauff. They looked like George Washington. ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Don’t forget Queen Celine Dion. She returned -- she performed at the '96 Olympics, and she had done -- she's been suffering from stiff person syndrome. She had said in an interview in April of 2024, ‘I hope I get to return to Paris’ so then to perform at the Olympics -- I wept. I was watching and I have to say I went to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018 in South Korea and got to see the opening ceremony. It is the coolest thing and they lean into their culture and you're meant to learn something. I’m sorry there’s nothing more Parisian than like Marie Antoinette's head cut off, metal music playing and then drag queens like that is – that is French that is what they’re going to do. GOLDBERG: Yeah. GRIFFIN: So enjoy it, celebratory -- there is something for everyone if you didn’t like one thing tune in to something else. GOLDBERG: Yeah and that's what we hope for folks to think about doing. If you are not happy with something, and it bothers you, don't take 20 hours to write an email. Just turn the TV off. Watch something else. Put the newspaper down. Don't look at the pictures. These are choices, you know, we're back to this thing. These are our choices. You have the ability. Forget what Instagram is telling you. If you don't like it, go to something else. You don't have to stay. You have it in your power to make the change, just like they're doing with me right now. We will be right back.

Former Mandalorian Actress Gina Carano Defeats Disney in Court After ‘Absurd,’ ‘Abusive’ Cancellation

Disney tried to end actress Gina Carano's lawsuit against the company after it fired her from The Mandalorian and tried to make her persona non-grata. But last week Disney failed. A judge allowed Carano’s discrimination case against Disney to move forward on July 24. Disney fired Carano three years ago after she notably made fun of personal pronouns and alluded to the fact that dehumanizing people can lead to horrifying ends like Nazi Germany.  Carano celebrated Disney’s failure to get her case dismissed on X, thanking X owner Elon Musk for supporting her lawsuit. “I am moved to tears. After a brutal 3 1/2 years, I am being given the opportunity to move forward in the court of law before the judge and my peers to clear my name. I am so grateful for this opportunity,” Carano wrote.  She went on to make clear that she wasn’t just fighting for herself. “What happened to me was unacceptable, absurd and abusive, among other things. It should not have happened to me, and it should not happen to anyone else moving forward. Let it stop here.” Musk said of the decision: “The discovery on this case will be devastating for the woke mind virus that controls Disney.” The former Mandalorian actress came under fire when she added another user’s post to her Instagram story. The post noted that hatred escalates to violence and used the example of the spread of German anti-Semitism before World War II to speak out against the demonization of conservatives in the present.  The left and the media encourage an insane double standard on Nazi comparisons, allowing them only for leftist actors, politicians and media. Mandalorian star, Pedro Pascal, himself compared Trump supporters to Nazis on social media.  Carano also responded to the inane trend of putting pronouns in social media bios by putting “boop/bop/beep” (R2-D2’s pronouns) in hers. Nothing to see here, just another 90 seconds of the media flat-out saying Trump is literally Hitler. pic.twitter.com/aMdbNh4g9c — Bill D'Agostino (@Banned_Bill) July 15, 2024 Disney subsidiary Lucasfilm unceremoniously fired Carano in February 2021. The company later put out a statement making it abundantly clear that her social media posts were at least part of the reason why Lucasfilm let her go. "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”  However, it seems Lucasfilm may have made a misstep. California employment law does not allow employees to be fired for their political beliefs. Employers are barred from, “Forbidding or preventing employees from engaging or participating in politics or from becoming candidates for public office,” and “Controlling or directing, or tending to control or direct the political activities or affiliations of employees.” California employers are also prohibited from threatening to remove employment for political reasons: “No employer shall coerce or influence or attempt to coerce or influence his employees through or using threat of discharge or loss of employment to adopt or follow or refrain from adopting or following any particular course or line of political action or political activity.” Conservatives are under attack! Contact The Walt Disney Company at TWDC.corp.communications@disney.com and demand the company stop shoving woke propaganda down the American people’s throat.

Child predators and the DEATH penalty: Robby Starbuck’s mission to STOP the war on children

Child predators are every parent's nightmare. Director and creator of “The War on Children,” Robby Starbuck, knows this all too well. He also knows that the number of child predators is growing. “We just had an operation here in Tennessee that was announced this morning,” Starbuck tells James Poulos of “Zero Hour.” “In this operation, they were able to come up with over a quarter million images of child sexual abuse. That’s stunning. In one operation, in one state.” “They expect that number to grow,” he adds. While most Americans can agree that child predators deserve harsh sentences, Starbuck wants to take it a step further, telling Poulos that there’s no incentive for these possessed individuals not to hurt children. “The incentives not to do that, what are they exactly?” he asks. “One hundred years ago, if a man was caught raping a child, he wouldn’t be alive much longer. And that’s why, you know, we spearheaded here in Tennessee, a law change. And it was a law change made to ensure that we challenge bad precedent at the Supreme Court. And that was to give the death penalty to child rapists.” While predators currently do not get the death penalty for raping a child, Starbuck believes that might be about to change. “I believe the Supreme Court of today has a makeup where they’re going to do the sensible thing and affirm that you can in fact punish a heinous criminal like this with death instead of paying to keep them alive to the tune of millions and millions and millions and millions of dollars,” he tells Poulos. “No society can survive if their incentives are all wrong,” he adds. Starbuck isn’t alone in his assessment of where we’re at as a society and where we'll remain if we don't make a change. Poulos has also recognized the darkness. “In some ways, it’s become a weirder and darker place, this country, than it has been in a long time,” he says. Illegal alien allegedly beats man to death in Virginia after Fairfax County sheriff apparently ignores multiple ICE detainers

A Honduran national with multiple immigration detainers against him and at least one assault and battery conviction to his name allegedly beat a man to death in Virginia earlier this month. On July 20, a resident taking a stroll down a path in a wooded area near the 9500 block of Route 29 in Oakton, Virginia, spotted "a male lying unresponsive," the Fairfax County Police Department said. The victim — later identified as 47-year-old Nicacio Hernandez Gonzalez of Fairfax — had "obvious" signs of "trauma" on his body and was soon pronounced dead, the statement added. In response to the uproar about the immigration detainers issued against FCADC's 'undocumented' inmates, such as Guzman-Videl ... Fairfax County Sheriff Stacey Kincaid wrote a letter insisting that without a judicial warrant, detainers are just 'an informal request.'By Wednesday, three suspects had been arrested in connection with Gonzalez's death: 27-year-old Maudin Anibal Guzman-Videz, 45-year-old Wis Alonso Sorto-Portillo, and 20-year-old Wilmer Adli Guzman, who was arrested in Washington, D.C., and awaits extradition to Fairfax County. All three have been charged with malicious wounding by mob. None of the suspects has a fixed address in the U.S., and at least one of them — Guzman-Videz — apparently has no legal right to be here in the first place.Guzman-Videz, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, has a long history with local and federal law enforcement agencies. In November 2018, he was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol after he entered the U.S. illegally near Hidalgo, Texas. A year later, a judge ordered him deported.Whether Guzman-Videz was ever deported is unclear, but between October 27, 2022, and June 28, 2023, ICE reportedly filed multiple immigration detainers against him with the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center — but ICE said the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office refused to honor the detainers, WJLA-TV reported. At least one of those detainers was in connection with a particularly brutal incident in March 2023 when Guzman-Videz reportedly broke into a building and severely beat a woman. That June, he was convicted of burglary and assault and battery and sentenced to 11 months behind bars plus a 364-day suspended sentence. On June 17, 2024, his 11-month sentence was up, and Guzman-Videz walked out of jail. Nicacio Hernandez Gonzalez was dead about a month later.According to WJLA, 725 "undocumented individuals" have been incarcerated at the county's adult detention center in the last 12 months. Of those 725, just three have been transferred to ICE's custody. In response to the uproar about the immigration detainers issued against "undocumented" inmates at the county jail who have been accused of heinous violent and/or sex-related crimes, Fairfax County Sheriff Stacey Kincaid wrote a letter insisting that without a judicial warrant, detainers are just "an informal request.""ICE knows that should they wish to take one of these offenders into custody, all that is required on their part is a judicial warrant authorizing arrest," her letter continued. "ICE is notified every time an undocumented immigrant is taken into our custody. Yet, time and again, they make no effort to secure a warrant that would give judicial authority to detain."Kincaid added, "This inaction is a failure of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, not of the Sheriff’s Office."The sheriff and other local elected officials reportedly have attempted to implement sanctuary policies in Fairfax County. According to her campaign website, Kincaid also has received endorsements from several high-profile Virginia Democrats, including former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, former U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, and current U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly.Mike Chapman, the sheriff of nearby Loudon County, takes a decidedly different view of immigration detainers, and he said he honors them even without a judicial warrant as an important component of keeping his community safe."We need to make sure that we're not keeping these people in our community that can do further harm," Chapman told WJLA. "It makes no sense to me to allow these people to stay in the area and then commit another crime if we know for a fact that they're violent and that they're here illegally."(H/T: The Post Millennial)Like Blaze News? Olympics opening ceremony's unsubtle message: You have been conquered

To those who didn’t love the opening ceremony at the Olympics, it’s important to know who produced them and why. The artistic director for the 2024 Olympics is French artist Thomas Jolly. While we know little about him, we know what he produced. Many of us wonder why. Jolly has been widely quoted as saying he wanted “everyone to feel represented” in the show he created for the opening ceremony. So apparently his objectives focused on inclusion and unity. Inclusion and unity are values that seem easy enough to defend here, given that the Olympic Games seek to bring the world together for a few days in pursuit of athletic excellence. Paradoxically, for each individual competitor and team, the Olympics are all about competing — with the ultimate objective of winning. While winning is itself neither unifying nor inclusive — quite the opposite, in fact — the quest for excellence can be. That’s the whole point. We must call this out for what it appears to be — an attempt to weaken, cheapen, and demean time-honored symbols of Jesus Christ. Thomas Jolly certainly had the resources to communicate any message he wanted during the opening ceremony. He certainly could have found ways — as others have in Olympic Games spanning many decades — to harmonize unity and inclusion with competition and the quest for victory. According to the New York Times, Jolly had access to “perks most directors could only dream of: a budget of nearly $150 million and more than 15,000 workers, including dancers and musicians. He can also expect a live audience of half a million and 1.5 billion spectators on television.” He used those vast resources not to send a message of unity and inclusivity but to do precisely the opposite — insulting many of Jesus Christ’s estimated 2.6 billion living followers, along with many others (including Muslims) who see Jesus in a sacred light. While I have never met Thomas Jolly and know little about him, I'm struck by the fact that he views the opening ceremony as conveying a message of unity and inclusivity. It makes me wonder whether, when Jolly has an ax to grind, one has to interpret his words to mean the opposite of their commonly accepted meaning. Instead of unity, divisiveness. In place of inclusivity, exclusion. Instead of kindness, cruelty. Instead of respect, mockery. Someone said recently that the bells of Notre-Dame Cathedral rang during the opening ceremony for the first time since the tragic fire threatened and badly damaged that priceless landmark and place of worship. Did it ever occur to Thomas Jolly that those bells — along with much of Paris’ most remarkable architecture — would never have existed without Christianity? Did Jolly ever stop to consider that the works of Victor Hugo — complete with characters like Jean Valjean from “Les Misérables” — could never have become a global source of inspiration (reflecting favorably on France and its people) without Christianity? While wrapping himself in the false flag of unity and inclusivity, did Jolly ever consider that he was actually sowing division and resentment? Although I can't read anyone’s mind, especially someone I've never met and know little about, I recognize a familiar pattern in Jolly's production this week. In European history, conquerors often commemorated and widely publicized their victories by replacing the sacred religious symbols of the conquered with their own. In some cases, the conquerors obliterated the sacred landmarks and symbols, building new ones on top of those built and maintained by their predecessors. In other cases, the conquerors would commandeer pre-existing religious symbols and structures, making significant modifications to reflect the values and goals of the conquering authority. Imagine, for example, a cathedral built on the ruins of a mosque — one that had been built on the ruins of a synagogue, which had in turn been built on the ruins of a pagan temple. Each time something like this happens, the conquered are made to understand one message very clearly: “You have been conquered.” While I don’t purport to speak for Thomas Jolly, I wonder whether this is what he had in mind. Jolly is not building one physical structure on top of another, to be sure. But with his message in the opening ceremony, Jolly can fairly be said to be co-opting sacred symbols of Christianity, stripping them of their sacred import, and re-using them to send a very different message — one at odds with Christian teachings. The message remains the same as that communicated to the conquered by conquering forces in antiquity, often by the destruction and abrupt replacement of physical, sacred structures and symbols: “You have been conquered.” Obviously, Jolly controls no military force. But he does control an impressive brigade of messaging “soldiers” to help him communicate whatever it is he wanted to say. Followers of Jesus can choose not to view ourselves as having been conquered, but unless we actively combat secular, anti-Christian efforts to commandeer our sacred symbols, we could lose much of their meaning and favorable impact. To do that, we must call this out for what it appears to be — an attempt to weaken, cheapen, and demean time-honored symbols of Jesus Christ. In so doing, we can also call out the fact that, as much as anything else, this was a gigantic, costly lost opportunity for France to share its rich history and traditions with the world — in a way that would truly unite and include others in the celebration. Instead of devoting his immense talents and vast resources to cutting down beliefs toward which he apparently has great hostility, he could have gone in a positive direction — something easy to do with a cultural tradition as rich as France’s. Ultimately, the Olympics are about finding unity through a shared enthusiasm for athletic competition — based on an understanding that competition is the midwife of excellence and victory in almost any human endeavor. Instead of excellence, Jolly produced mediocrity. In place of victory, he delivered a loss. A loss not just for France but for all who witnessed his tirade against the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Olympic Games — and all who participate in and view them — deserved better. Editor’s note: A version of this article appeared originally as a thread on X (formerly Twitter).

Republicans can’t ignore Kamala Harris’ biggest weakness

The 2024 presidential campaign was turned upside down last week with the withdrawal of Joe Biden from the race and the virtual coronation of Kamala Harris as his replacement. With just weeks to go until voting begins, the sprint is now on to define the presumptive Democratic nominee in the minds of voters.Fortunately for Republicans, Harris has plenty of vulnerabilities to highlight. Despite the media’s whitewashing attempts, Harris may well be the most far-left major party presidential candidate in American history, and some GOP ads have already begun to highlight her insane positions — ranging from open-borders advocacy to discouraging meat consumption. The Democratic Party’s ideological extremism on gender is one of its biggest vulnerabilities, and, with Harris, the party has now put it front and center. But while exposing her extremism on immigration, crime, and energy policy may be an effective strategy, the vice president’s weaknesses go far beyond these issues. Harris also has a long history of promoting a wildly unpopular cultural agenda, one that Republicans would be foolish to ignore. As Harris herself admitted during her failed 2020 presidential run: “Way back when, with the power that I had, I used it in a way that was about pushing forward the [transgender] movement, frankly, and the agenda.” This was a rare instance of her telling the truth. As California’s attorney general, for example, Harris forced a policy change that allowed male prison inmates who identified as women to undergo taxpayer-funded sex-change surgeries. Her office negotiated the deal allowing the first taxpayer-funded sex-change surgery for any inmate in the United States — for convicted murderer “Shiloh Quine.”Another inmate involved in the deal, convicted of second-degree murder, was quickly released on parole and went on to get the surgery under California’s Medicaid program. Ironically, he now believes the gender insanity in California prisons has gone too far: “I didn’t mean for this to happen. My case in 2015 opened up a doorway [and] I am waiting for the states to apologize to women.” Harris, though, apparently remains unfazed. She did mean for this to happen. When Harris entered the Senate in 2017, she began to push the transgender agenda even further. She was a pioneer on this issue, cosponsoring bills to put transgender-identifying men in women’s sports, locker rooms, school bathrooms, domestic violence shelters, and elsewhere. She also signed on to legislation to force hospitals and doctors — including those with conscientious objections — to perform sex-change procedures, even on minor children. As vice president, Harris has continued her far-left cultural crusade, attacking any state that has dared to fight back against gender extremism. She’s lambasted laws protecting kids from sexualized content in schools. She’s criticized policies protecting integrity and fairness in women’s sports. And she’s attacked moves by states to protect children from the horrifying medical malpractice of “gender-affirming care.”In the meantime, the Biden-Harris administration has been busy trying to "re-interpret" existing law to accomplish what Harris couldn't in the Senate. During her time as vice president, her administration has tried to force doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies to fund or perform sex-change procedures on children. It has attempted to force schools to allow men in women's sports and private spaces. And it has even threatened to defund school lunch programs for poor children if those schools do not comply.Unsurprisingly, all of this is deeply unpopular with the American public. Large majorities of voters oppose men in women’s sports, sex-change procedures for minors, and inappropriate gender content in schools. And as Republicans like Glenn Youngkin and Ron DeSantis have shown, candidates who run on these issues can be very successful, even appealing to those beyond the traditional GOP base.Although Democrats want voters to view Kamala Harris as a fresh face and a reset for the party’s ticket, the truth is that she has been a leading figure for years in the far left’s culture war on American families. The Democratic Party’s ideological extremism on gender is one of its biggest vulnerabilities, and, with Harris, the party has now put it front and center. With the election now up for grabs after last week’s unprecedented events, Republicans cannot afford to let this advantage go to waste.

Where to Begin with Regulatory Reform

Bringing regulation up to the admittedly low standard with which Congress treats fiscal policy would still be a huge improvement.
