The vast majority of Americans believe that parents should be able to opt their children out of gender and sexuality-related curricula that violate their religious beliefs, according to a new survey shared with The Daily Wire.  Data from the Becket Fund’s annual Religious Freedom Index found that 77% of Americans believe parents should be able to opt their children out of curriculum violating their religious beliefs, up from 74% the previous year. Just 23% said they didn’t think parents should be able to opt their kids out for religious reasons.  “Parents don’t take a back seat to anyone when it comes to raising their children,” Lori Windham, vice president and senior counsel at Becket told The Daily Wire. “This year’s Index shows that a vast majority of Americans believe in this commonsense principle and in every parent’s right to excuse their children from classroom lessons that violate their faith.” “Our nation is best when we empower parents, not the government, to decide what’s best for their children,” she added.  Becket has requested the Supreme Court to hear a case featuring a coalition of Maryland parents, including both Christians and Muslims, who want to be able to opt their elementary school-aged students out of instruction on gender and sexuality. The parents argue that the Montgomery County School Board is violating their religious beliefs by forcing children as young as three to read books about transgenderism, pride parades, and preferred pronouns.  The case is expected to be reviewed at one of the Supreme Court’s upcoming conferences.  CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT The responses were gathered after Becket asked survey respondents if they agreed or disagreed with the following statement: “Parents should be able to opt their children out of public school curriculum on gender and sexuality that violates their religious beliefs or that they believe is not age appropriate.” The data were shared with The Daily Wire ahead of the publication of Becket’s Religious Freedom Index, which measures American attitudes toward the First Amendment. This year’s survey featured answers from a representative sample taken from an online poll of 1,000 adults. In previous years, the index has asked Americans about their attitudes toward religion in the workplace and whether they think religion can help solve America’s problems.  Across the country, there is broad support for parents to have increasing control over their children’s education. A recent poll from Parents Defending Education found that 75% of parents do not support teachers providing instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to elementary school students.

Adding insult to injury, reports have surfaced of illegal immigrants receiving free housing — paid for with taxpayer dollars — while veterans are left sleeping on the streets. As a veteran who served in Iraq and Saudi Arabia, I find this not only unacceptable, but appalling. In November, voters made it clear they want change, electing President Trump to put America First and tackle this crisis head-on. Trump has laid out a credible plan to bring relief to American families. By reducing inflation, cutting mortgage rates, unleashing America’s energy potential, and deporting illegal immigrants driving up housing demand, we can lower costs and stabilize the market. Under Turner’s leadership, HUD will prioritize new development by opening portions of federal land for large-scale housing projects with low taxes and fewer regulations. Solving the housing crisis is no small task, but President Trump has promised action, and Turner is the ideal leader to deliver results. This isn’t Turner’s first time taking on monumental challenges. In 2019, President Trump entrusted him with leading the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, where he worked to revitalize distressed communities across the country. Under Turner’s leadership, forgotten neighborhoods experienced new investment, job creation, and economic growth. President Trump called it an “unprecedented effort that transformed our country’s most distressed communities.” That same commitment and vision will now be brought to HUD, where Turner will focus on making housing affordable and accessible for all Americans. Turner’s experience as a businessman has prepared him to meet this moment. His proven ability to focus on solutions has brought real change to Texas, and now it’s time for America to benefit from his leadership. A coalition of energy experts on Thursday urged the incoming Trump administration to take dramatic action to ditch regulations imposed by the Biden Environmental Protection Agency and unleash American energy, according to a memo exclusively shared with The Daily Wire.  Led by the American Energy Institute, a group of energy experts sent a memo to Trump EPA nominee and former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin ahead of his Senate hearing, outlining 10 steps they think he can take to roll back EPA abuse. The memo was also sent to Trump’s transition team and co-signed by the Energy & Environment Legal Institute, Truth in Energy and Climate, and the American Lands Council.  “For over five decades, the EPA has amassed a troubling record of overregulation, political abuse, and mission drift, often stifling innovation, burdening the economy, and undermining public trust,” American Energy Institute CEO Jason Isaac told The Daily Wire. “This plan lays the groundwork for realigning the agency’s focus to maintaining a safe environment while bolstering America’s energy and industrial production, reducing consumer costs, and promoting government accountability.” The recommendations include freezing all EPA activities pending further review, prohibiting EPA staff from communicating with outside groups about agency activities, terminating all external science advisors, revising air quality and emissions standards, ending President Joe Biden’s electric vehicle mandate, ending policies based on climate alarmism, reforming EPA risk assessment procedures, eliminating the Office of Environmental Justice, and settling litigation.  Many of the memo’s recommendations entail rolling back policies the Biden administration has implemented over the last four years. For example, the memo says that the Trump administration should “reduce pointlessly burdensome air quality” regulations imposed by Biden.  “Reforming the EPA’s process toward risk assessment would help it to focus on real-world scenarios,” the memo says. “Require data used as a basis for regulating be made publicly available during rulemaking,” the experts recommended. “Require cost-benefit analyses based on actual and demonstrable vs. imaginary costs and benefits.” CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT “The EPA needs more draining than just about any other part of the Swamp,” Myron Ebell, chair of the American Lands Council and former leader of Trump’s EPA transition told The Daily Wire. “Biden’s greenhouse gas regulations on power plants are raising electric rates and making the grid less reliable, so Trump’s EPA must start undoing them immediately.” Another former Trump EPA transition team member who signed onto the memo was Steve Milloy, now a senior fellow at the Energy & Environment Legal Institute. He predicted that the agency would be one of the most resistant to the president’s agenda.  “EPA has a 54-year history of junk science-fueled, job killing environmental overregulation. It is chock-full of anti-Trump ‘resistance’ and will be the toughest agency for President Trump to rein in,” he said.  Zeldin’s hearing before the Senate Committee on Public Works and the Environment is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. EST.
