Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) said during an interview over the weekend that China would be misreading the room if it took what happened between President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday as a green light for it to invade Taiwan. Lankford made the remark during a Sunday interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with Kristen Welker while recapping the Oval Office spat between the two world leaders. “If China somehow receives that, they’re receiving the exact wrong message that the United States stands with our ally Taiwan, and we, like the rest of the world, want to see peace in that region and to continue to be able to have relationships all across that region,” he said. “But China should not misread this at all. What President Trump is trying to do is trying to get both sides to the table.” He said that the United States was not turning its back on Ukraine and that the United States views Putin as “a murderous KGB thug that murders his political enemies and is a dictator.” “We’ve seen his aggression. Countries around him have seen that,” he continued. “Obviously the Ukrainian people have seen that. The challenge is now we’re at a stalemate. This is a World War I-like trench warfare, and it is best to be able to get to at least a pause. And what I hear President Trump saying over and over again is, ‘We need to get to a stop in fighting, find some resolution.'” “I understand Zelensky is rightfully concerned that Putin has violated every single agreement he’s ever signed and that he can’t be trusted,” he continued. “He’s looking for some kind of security guarantees, which the French and the U.K. are saying they want to put troops in. But we need to get these two folks at the table, get to some kind of resolution to something that may look like North and South Korea for a long time, and have a line where people are looking at each other, but not an active war.” He added that he does not agree with those who are calling on Zelensky to resign, and that if Zelensky were to do so, it would “spiral Ukraine into chaos right now.” “If you remember, in that press conference in the Oval Office just on Friday, it began with President Trump saying that he is a friend of Zelensky. He is interested,” Lankford added. “They’ve had good conversations. I think they understand each other and that, obviously, there are differences whereas Zelensky wants more in the way of some kind of security guarantees. The United States is not willing to be able to put troops on the ground. We’re not willing to do that.” “But President Trump obviously met with Zelensky first,” he concluded. “Everybody was talking about Trump is going to work with Putin. He had foreign ministers working with the Russians. He wanted to meet personally with Zelensky first. I think that’s a very clear sign of where he is and where he stands on this. But he wants to get both sides of the table and get an end to the fighting and the death.” WATCH:

Sanders made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with Kristen Welker when asked about something Democrat strategist James Carville recently said. “You’ve been criss-crossing the country warning of what you say is an oligarchy in the United States,” Welker said. “We’re seeing some video of that right here. Some Democrats argue the best action right now for the party to counter Donald Trump is to do nothing at all.” “Democratic strategist James Carville wrote this, quote, ‘Roll over and play dead. Allow the Republicans to crumble beneath their own weight and make the American people miss us,'” she continued. “Senator, what say you? Do you think that’s a good idea?” Sanders responded: “Oh, no. I don’t. In fact, the problem is the Democrats have been playing dead for too many years. 60% of our people live paycheck to paycheck. We have more income and wealth inequality than we’ve ever had in the history of this country. We have the highest rate of childhood poverty of almost any major country. Millions of seniors are struggling to heat their homes and put food on the table.” “I don’t think you play dead,” he said. “I think you stand up for the working class in this country and make the point that right now, the Trump administration is clearly an administration designed to represent the interest of the Musks of the world. Once again…. context matters people. Earlier today, we wrote about a viral clip of Dolly Parton sending support to the people of Ukraine. The clip was actually from the 2022 ACM Awards, which aired just a couple months after Russia invaded. But in the wake of President Trump and JD Vance’s explosive meeting with Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it has gone viral again… with many acting like Dolly sent it as a direct response to what happened at the White House… and naturally, they’re MAD. Of course, the outrage is completely lacking the proper context. And now, the same thing is happening to Garth and Trisha. To those that think Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood just whipped this “help Ukraine” video up that’s currently getting a lot of attention on social media, you’d be wrong. This video is actually from April of 2022, and was a part of a digital campaign titled Stand Up for Ukraine, which aimed to raise money for the country’s efforts in its fight against Russia. In the video, Garth and Trisha asked people to “dig into their pockets” to assist Ukrainians during the war effort. Yearwood kicked things off by saying: “There’s a global initiative and supplies are already spread thin, and this is where you come in. We need your help. We need you to donate.” Garth Brooks then added: “We always ask for love and prayers, and please keep doing that, but we’re also going to ask you: dig in your pockets, be part of the greatest global relief plan mankind has ever seen.” Yearwood then finished with one final plea: “Everybody deserves dignity, everybody deserves a roof over their head; to feel safe. You can be a part of that.” Funny enough, this video actually started recirculating back in July of 2o23, and it even prompted country music artists John Rich and Travis Tritt to respond in disagreement, saying that America should look after their own borders first. Fast forward to 2025, and the video being reposted again has started another internet firestorm. And don’t get me wrong, the video is incredibly cringy (par for the course with Garth), but it’s pretty wild that one video has made people upset in 2022, 2023 and 2025. Obviously, the conversation involving the United States and Ukraine has gotten a boost in attention due to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent visit to the White House that didn’t exactly go as planned. Videos of the Oval Office meeting between Zelenskyy, President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance are still circulating online days after the heated exchange took place. The Ukrainian President was supposed to be meeting with Trump to discuss a potential rare earth-minerals deal between the United States and Ukraine. But the world leaders never got far enough to tackle that subject, as Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the White House shortly after the Oval Office meeting – to borrow from the great Ron Burgundy – escalated quickly. During the tense conversation, the Ukrainian President told President Trump and Vice President Vance that they would “feel” the pressures of war in the future, among other things that didn’t sit well with them. Vance in particular took offense to that, and suggested that Zelenskyy show gratitude for America multiple times. Trump even told the Ukrainian leader that he doesn’t “have the cards right now” in reference to Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
