Russia And China Are Planning On Building A Nuclear Reactor On The Moon

In 2021‚ the Chinese and Russian space agencies signed a joint agreement to build a research base on the Moon. In a new announcement‚ the space agencies say they are hoping to build an automated nuclear reactor on the lunar surface to power the International Lunar Research Station by 2035.You may have noticed that no human has set foot on the Moon since Apollo 17 left in December 1972. Plenty of uncrewed missions have been sent to the Moon in the last few years‚ with varying degrees of success‚ but it will still be some time before humans are once again bouncing around on everyone's favorite satellite. Though China is planning on landing a human on the Moon by 2030‚ and Russia by 2031‚ the two space agencies are considering placing the reactor without human involvement."Today‚ we are seriously considering a project to deliver to the Moon and mount a power reactor there jointly with our Chinese partners somewhere between 2033 and 2035‚" Yury Borisov‚ CEO of Russian space agency Roscosmos told state-owned news site Tass. "This is a very serious challenge [...] it should be done in automatic mode‚ without the presence of humans."Borisov went on to explain that solar panels would be insufficient for powering future human settlements‚ though nuclear power could. When the Lunar Research Station was announced in 2021‚ the space agencies said it would be available for international use‚ relations since then between Russia and international co-operators in space have become somewhat frostier‚ owing to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. To get the lunar base on the Moon‚ Russia is also working on a nuclear-powered cargo spaceship."We are indeed working on a space tugboat‚" Borisov said‚ per AP. "This huge‚ cyclopean structure that would be able‚ thanks to a nuclear reactor and a high-power turbines [...] to transport large cargoes from one orbit to another‚ collect space debris and engage in many other applications."He added that the space agency had solved all technical problems with the spaceship‚ but had not yet found a way to cool the nuclear reactor‚ a large and important task if the world is going to get a Moon base by the ambitious target of 2035.

Wrinkled‚ tentacled “cauliflower” on the ocean floor has biologists baffled

During the expedition‚ researchers discovered more than a hundred species previously unknown to science‚ but one of them turned out to be especially curious. During the latest deep-sea expedition off the coast of New Zealand‚ a team from New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) explored the Bounty Trench‚ a mysterious point in the ocean home to hundreds of bizarre animals. However‚ one of them literally “confused” biologists‚ reports the Daily Mail. In total‚ scientists discovered more than 100 species previously unknown to science‚ including dozens of mollusks‚ three fish‚ a new species of shrimp‚ a cephalopod and a new genus of coral. But according to expedition co-leader‚ NIWA marine biologist Sadie Mills‚ the most surprising creature discovered by the researchers was an animal that looked like a shriveled gray cauliflower. The team notes that the creature was so strange that they were initially a little confused. This amazing cauliflower-like creature is believed to be a new type of octocoral‚ a deep-sea organism characterized by polyps with eight tentacles. Strange new species has scientists baffled. Photo: Ocean Census/NIWA The team initially theorized that what they were looking at might be a starfish or sea anemone‚ or possibly another deep-sea animal known as a zoanthid. However‚ further research showed that this is not the case. During the deep-sea expedition‚ many of the experts were extremely excited and intrigued‚ according to Queensland Museum taxonomist Dr Michela Mitchell. Over time‚ the team came to the conclusion that they were not just looking at a new species of octocoral‚ but also a new genus What seems even more intriguing is that‚ in fact‚ this mysterious creature may actually turn out to be a completely new group‚ not related to octocorals. If so‚ it’s an important find for the deep sea‚ giving scientists a much clearer picture of the planet’s unique biodiversity. According to the co-leader of the expedition‚ British marine biologist‚ Professor Alex Rogers‚ one way or another‚ the diversity of life discovered by scientists is very impressive and sheds light on marine ecosystems that we were not previously aware of. Note that this discovery was made as part of a project that involves an “ocean census.” Scientists plan to discover even more species before the end of the project. The team also notes that the discovery of several species of fish at once was exciting – such discoveries are extremely rare. The research was carried out on board the research vessel Tangaroa. In total‚ the team collected about 1‚800 samples from depths of up to 4‚800 meters along the Bounty Trench. Man pleads guilty to genetically creating giant Franken-sheep

In Montana‚ an 80-year-old man‚ Arthur “Jack” Schubarth‚ pleaded guilty on Tuesday to two felony wildlife crimes linked to his scheme of offering paying customers the opportunity to hunt sheep on private ranches. However‚ these weren’t ordinary sheep; they were “massive hybrid sheep” resulting from the illegal importation of animal parts from central Asia‚ followed by cloning and breeding to produce an enormous hybrid species. Schubarth owns and runs a 215-acre “alternative livestock” ranch in Vaughn‚ Montana‚ where he initiated this operation in 2013‚ as per a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice. “Alternative livestock” includes hybrids of mountain sheep‚ mountain goats‚ and other large mammals‚ often sought after by wealthy individuals for trophy hunting. An unnamed accomplice of Schubarth initiated the decade-long scheme by illegally importing biological tissue from a Marco Polo sheep‚ the world’s largest sheep‚ from Kyrgyzstan into the U.S. in 2013‚ according to prosecutors. These sheep are exceptionally large‚ with an average male weighing over 300 pounds and horns stretching over 5 feet wide‚ making them possess the largest sheep horns globally. Classified as endangered‚ these sheep are protected by international treaties and U.S. law. Montana also prohibits the importation of these foreign sheep or their parts to safeguard local American sheep from disease. After smuggling the sheep parts into the U.S.‚ Schubarth forwarded them to an unnamed laboratory‚ which generated 165 cloned embryos‚ according to the DOJ. “Schubarth then implanted the embryos in ewes on his ranch‚ resulting in a single‚ pure genetic male Marco Polo argali that he named ‘Montana Mountain King’ or MMK‚” the authorities wrote. Afterward‚ he undertook artificial insemination of his female sheep to establish a novel hybrid breed. These colossal “franken-sheep” were intended to serve as targets for trophy hunters seeking sport. Everything had been proceeding as intended until authorities apprehended him. “This was an audacious scheme to create massive hybrid sheep species to be sold and hunted as trophies‚” said assistant Attorney General Todd Kim from the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division. “In pursuit of this scheme‚ Schubarth violated international law and the Lacey Act‚ both of which protect the viability and health of native populations of animals.” Schubart conspired with at least five other people who are not named in the indictment. Schubarth faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250‚000 and is scheduled to be sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Brian M. Morris for the District of Montana in July. Puppy First Vet Visit Checklist: A Vet-Approved Guide

Puppy First Vet Visit Checklist: A Vet-Approved Guide

A puppy’s first vet visit can be overwhelming for both puppies and their parents. Knowing what to expect and how to prepare can help calm nerves and make the appointment go as smoothly as possible. Each vet clinic will have its own procedures‚ but they generally accomplish the same things. We’ll go over some items that you can prepare before your puppy’s first vet visit and what sorts of things you can expect once you arrive at the vet clinic. The 5 Things to Prepare Prior to the Visit 1.  Previous Medical Records Bringing any of your puppy’s existing medical records (for example‚ if you purchased your puppy from a breeder) to your veterinarian’s office will ensure that all your puppy’s medical information is all in one place. Veterinarians can also refer to these records to ensure that your puppy is on top of their vaccination schedule. Most breeders and dog adoption centers will provide medical records when you first bring your puppy home. However‚ if you don’t have a copy‚ make sure to contact them before your first vet visit. 2. Comfortable Carrier Young puppies can feel overwhelmed when they visit new places. A vet clinic can come with all sorts of sounds and smells that can make some puppies feel anxious. Assembling a cozy carrier can help your puppy stay calm. You can add a soft blanket‚ a plush toy‚ and any other of your puppy’s favorite and familiar items. Carriers will also be a form of additional protection for your puppy. It’s likely that there will be other animals in the vet’s waiting room. A carrier will help keep your puppy in a safe space and removed from all the action. 3. Pet Wipes It also doesn’t hurt to be prepared for any accidents along the way. Having a set of pet wipes can help you clean up any potential messes made in the carrier and keep your puppy clean during their first vet visit. Hepper Pet Wash Wipes - Soft Pet Cleaning Wipes... Gentle Care For All Pets - Infused with moisturizing hypoallergenic ingredients &; enriched with...Deep Cleans From Head to Tail - Tackle the toughest dirt &; messes with our extra strong pet wipes...Freshness On The Go - Each dog grooming wipes pack contains 30 counts of premium dog wipes that... Pre-filled Forms Some veterinarians may request you to fill out forms before your first visit. These forms often collect basic personal information‚ such as your name‚ address‚ and phone number. They may also ask for any of your puppy’s existing medical records. While you can certainly fill out these forms at the vet’s office‚ your puppy will appreciate having your undivided attention during their first vet visit. If your veterinarian doesn’t send you any forms to fill out beforehand‚ you can always ask if there’s anything you need to complete and submit before the visit. 5. Stool Sample Most veterinarians will conduct a fecal exam on your puppy’s first visit. Fecal exams detect internal parasites‚ and work best on a fresh sample. You may wish to contact your vet beforehand to see if they will be performing this exam during your puppy’s visit so you can be prepared. If so‚ make sure that your puppy has a good meal the night before. It’s also helpful to go on a walk before the vet visit. This will give your puppy plenty of time to relieve themselves and expend some energy. Make sure to double-bag the stool sample or place it in a tightly sealed container to prevent odors from permeating as you drive to the vet clinic. Image Credit: Friends Stock‚ Shutterstock The 6 Things to Expect During the Visit 1. Physical Exam Once you and your puppy arrive at the vet clinic‚ you’ll check in with the front desk and wait for your veterinarian to see you. All puppies will go through a standard physical exam. They’ll get weighed‚ and the veterinarian will check out their whole body‚ including listening to the heart and lungs. In some cases‚ your vet may want some additional blood work or a urinalysis to get a baseline of your puppy’s organ function. 2. Diet and Nutrition Requirements Make sure to ask your veterinarian about any diet and nutrition requirements for your puppy‚ as puppies of varying breeds and sizes have different nutritional needs. For example‚ smaller puppies usually have to consume more calories per pound of body weight than large-breed puppies. Having a feeding guide will help with giving your puppy healthy portions of food. Your vet willl be able to provide information on what your puppy needs to eat for healthy growth and development. They can also recommend specific brands of puppy food that would be good options for your puppy. 3. Vaccine Schedule One of the main things your veterinarian will start or continue for your puppy is their vaccine schedule. They will administer their core vaccinations‚ which target canine distemper‚ canine adenovirus‚ parvovirus‚ and parainfluenza. This vaccine is also known as the DA2PP‚ DHPP‚ or DAPP vaccine. Depending on where you live and your puppy’s lifestyle‚ additional vaccines‚ such as Leptospirosis‚ may be given or discussed as well. Most puppies start their vaccine schedules when they’re about 6 to 8 weeks old. They’ll continue to get follow-up vaccines every 3 to 4 weeks until they’re about 16 weeks old. Once your puppy is over 12 weeks old‚ they can get the rabies vaccine. 4. Neutering or Spaying Questions If you don’t plan on getting involved with breeding‚ consider having your puppy neutered or spayed at the appropriate age. Because different breeds have different maturation rates‚ it’s important to discuss with your veterinarian when it would be best for your puppy to have this surgery. Finding the right timing can immensely help with avoiding complications and will help your puppy have as smooth of a recovery as possible. Image Credit: BearFotos‚ Shutterstock 5. Tracking Healthy Growth and Development It’s helpful to ask your veterinarian about what healthy growth and development look like for your puppy. They may recommend that you track your puppy’s height and weight regularly to ensure that they’re growing at a healthy rate. They can also give you information on best practices for feeding and exercising your puppy‚ as finding the appropriate amount for each is essential for healthy development. 6. Treats and Rewards Bringing your puppy’s favorite treats to the appointment can help them stay calm as they go through a physical exam. If your puppy isn’t very food-motivated‚ you can try keeping them occupied with one of their favorite toys. Getting through the first vet visit is a huge accomplishment for your puppy. So‚ make sure to provide plenty of praise and rewards. Providing rewards at the vet clinic can also help build a positive association for your puppy. Just make sure to find a secluded place to give your puppy a treat‚ as treats can attract and excite other dogs. Image Credit: Nestor Rizhniak‚ Shutterstock Conclusion While it’s not possible to anticipate every single thing that will happen at your puppy’s first vet visit‚ you can do some things to make the experience as comfortable as possible for both of you. Making preparations beforehand can help immensely. It’ll also be beneficial to bring a list of questions so that you won’t forget to request any important information you may want about your puppy. Doing your best to be prepared will help you stay focused on your puppy and make the vet visit a positive experience for everyone involved. Why 'Dune 2' should fail

I enjoyed "Dune 2." But I didn't like enjoying it. There's something ghoulish about taking in a Hollywood blockbuster in 2024. Like eavesdropping on a man's dying rasp. I stopped going to the movies after "Avengers: Endgame‚" as did many people I know. Maybe we check in every so often out of morbid curiosity‚ but it's hard to justify paying the usual exorbitant ticket price for something we'll abandon after 20 minutes. Sitting in that dark movie theater‚ I realized I don’t want to be entertained by these people any more. They have nothing but sneering contempt for us. I no longer expect the contemporary cinema to entertain me. These days‚ it’s a win if what I'm watching doesn't actively spit in my face. So when a movie elicits an emotional reaction in me the way "Dune 2" did‚ it's a disquieting‚ sad reminder of when American moviemaking was powerful. Don't get me wrong: Hollywood is still clearly in power. But it is not powerful. Anyone with eyes can clearly see the emperor has no clothes. It is an entertainment industry that can no longer entertain‚ a media complex dedicated solely to producing garbage. The only reason for its existence is to spew leftist propaganda and fund leftist causes. And one day even that won't be enough to stave off its inevitable demise. "Dune 2" was a disturbing watch because I wanted to be invested in this movie. I wanted to be enraptured and entertained and enter that liminal space where the visceral moment is all that exists. But I couldn’t. Instead‚ a part of me remained in 2024‚ vaguely disgusted at the cynical spectacle. If "Dune 2" proves that Hollywood is still capable of putting entertainment before ideology‚ it also shows that it generally chooses not to. So what if the movie turns Chani into a secular feminist? We should be grateful for all the characters they let be. "Dune 2" offers a nostalgic display of old-school craftsmanship‚ from a time when the American movie business was the envy of the world. But sitting in that dark movie theater‚ I realized I don’t want to be entertained by these people any more. They have nothing but sneering contempt for us. They take everything we love and burn it to the ground just to spite us. And yet we keep coming back‚ held hostage by a feeling the movies once gave us. No more. I can’t take away their money or their influence or their platform‚ but I can take away my attention. "Dune 2" was my last picture show. What I want the right to understand is that there needs to be a total war on the old institutions. Every half-decent franchise is a net loss for us because it keeps Hollywood on life support. "Dune 2" does not represent a return to form or a call for better moviemaking but rather a grudging compromise made to the masses in exchange for more funding and power. "Madame Web‚" on the other hand‚ is a triumph. Every flop and box office failure is. The more we get‚ the sooner that day will come when we won’t have to put up with humiliation rituals or woke garbage. Entertainment will be made for entertainment’s sake again‚ and we can get back to the business of making art. In short‚ "Dune 2" is a great movie‚ and I wish it weren’t.
