A Prayer to Wake with a Joyful NoiseBy Kristine Brown "Make a joyful noise to the Lord‚ all the earth!" (Psalm 100:1 ESV) When I wake up each morning‚ I'm rarely ready to face the battles awaiting me. As I lay in bed thinking about the day ahead‚ my mind fixates on the problems I prayed about the night before. I want to begin each day with joy‚ but instead‚ I entertain feelings of defeat before I even get out of bed. In those groggy moments between sleep and becoming fully awake‚ worry seems to find me. I'm too tired to focus on my weapons of warfare‚ so the enemy uses that time to prime his attack. Worries affect my mindset. So instead of starting my day with gratitude and joy‚ I find myself wanting to just get through it. Then‚ the bad attitude in my heart flows into every part of my day and every person I interact with. Psalm 100 begins with a call to "make a joyful noise to the Lord‚ all the earth!" I love how the psalmist starts with a determination to shout with a voice of triumph. What would happen if we could begin our days with this same attitude of praise to the Lord? Would we exude more joy that would spill over into our daily routines? Would the battles we face seem less overwhelming?  The New International Version of Psalm 100:1 begins‚ "Shout for joy to the Lord." The Hebrew word for "shout" used in this psalm translates‚ "to raise a battle cry; sound a trumpet blast; shout in triumph or exaltation." We see this same word used in Joshua 6‚ when the Israelites were about to enter the land God promised them. They knew a battle awaited them in the city of Jericho. Joshua had sent two men to spy out the land and bring back a report. Although God's people didn't know exactly what to expect‚ they marched into battle equipped and ready for Joshua's command. God instructed Joshua and the Israelites to circle the walls of Jericho once a day for six days in complete silence. On the seventh day‚ they were to circle seven times. Then‚ the priests would sound their horns. Joshua 6:5 describes the scene‚ "And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn‚ when you hear the sound of the trumpet‚ then all the people shall shout with a great shout‚ and the wall of the city will fall down flat‚ and the people shall go up‚ everyone straight before him." The Israelites woke early‚ knowing of their impending battle. They chose to obey the Lord and trust him with the outcome. God used their joyful noise to destroy the walls and give them victory.  In the same way‚ we can wake each morning with a joyful shout. We can face each day knowing the outcome belongs to the Lord. Making a joyful noise doesn't necessarily mean we need to shout‚ but we can have a joyful battle cry in our hearts that will propel us into a grateful attitude. If you woke up today with worries on your mind instead of a joyful noise in your heart‚ it's never too late to turn it around. God hears our battle cry. Let's pray:  Dear Heavenly Father‚Thank you for this day. You are a good and faithful God. As I wake each morning‚ help me face my days with gratitude and trust in you alone. Help me wake with a joyful noise. Forgive me for letting worry sit like a heavy weight on my mind. Even though I know there are battles ahead‚ I can choose to trust you with the outcome. I refuse to begin this day overcome with worry about things beyond my control. I believe you will fight for me‚ so I am starting today with a shout of praise. Lord‚ you are my Protector and Deliverer! I have reason to celebrate because of who you are. I claim Psalm 100:1 as my battle cry‚ "Make a joyful noise to the Lord‚ all the earth!" My circumstances may look scary‚ and I may not know what to expect. But I know that you are God. You made me‚ and I am yours. (Psalm 100:3) I pray the gratitude I have will overflow to the people in my life today. I pray they will see that the joy of the Lord is my strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)In Jesus' name‚ Amen. March 8‚ 2024 Is It a Closed Door or an Opportunity?ABBY MCDONALD Lee en español "But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask." John 11:22 (NIV) I combed through my emails‚ looking for a response to a question I'd been asking for weeks: Did I get the job? For the first time in 14 years‚ I was entering a season where all my kids were in school. As I sought opportunities to enter the workforce again‚ this job seemed like the perfect fit - but now I thought perhaps it wasn't God's timing. Finding no new emails‚ I shut my laptop and thought‚ God's answer to this prayer must be a "no." I hadn't asked Him for confirmation‚ but I assumed the lack of response meant the door was closed. As much as I dislike admitting it‚ this was not the first time I had made assumptions about God's answer to my prayers. Although I seek His guidance before making decisions‚ I often draw my own conclusions afterward if He doesn't respond on my timeline. I decide what the silence means before giving God space to speak to me through it. It's comforting to see that people in Scripture faced this too. For instance‚ if there was ever a person who had reason to think an outcome was certain‚ it was Martha. When her brother became ill‚ she sent word to Jesus. But instead of coming quickly‚ Jesus waited until Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. At this point‚ Martha could have assumed that the window for a miracle was over‚ that healing wasn't part of Jesus' plan. But when she saw Jesus‚ her words revealed the hope she still had: "But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask" (John 11:22‚ emphasis added). Even now‚ in the middle of the grief and weeping.Even now‚ when the tomb was closed. Martha's interaction with Jesus showed her faith in His abilities. Still‚ her hope ultimately was not in an outcome but in Jesus' identity. She said‚ "I believe that you are the Messiah‚ the Son of God‚ who is to come into the world" (John 11:27‚ NIV). What if we saw spaces of waiting as opportunities to seek God? To declare who He is? Instead of concluding we already know the outcome‚ we could let the silence lead us to deeper faith. Although I thought the job opening was closed‚ I kept seeking God's direction through prayer. After three months‚ a response landed in my inbox. Despite my presumption‚ God answered my prayer with a "yes." This surprise reminded me that God wants us to come to Him in the waiting‚ not make assumptions. His answer may take longer than we want‚ and it may look different than we expect‚ but we can know He hears us. And He will answer. God‚ thank You for always moving on our behalf‚ even when we doubt. When we pray‚ may our knowledge of who You are lead us‚ and may our assumptions be replaced with patient expectancy. In Jesus' Name‚ Amen. Utility provider Xcel Energy said its equipment likely played a role in sparking the Smokehouse Creek fire‚ which burned over 1.2 million acres and killed at least two people. According to Texas A&;M Forest Service investigators‚ downed power lines ignited the massive fire. The Minnesota-based company said its facilities “appear to have been involved in an ignition” of the blaze. “Xcel Energy disputes claims that it acted negligently in maintaining and operating its infrastructure; however‚ we encourage people who had property destroyed by or livestock lost in the Smokehouse Creek fire to submit a claim to Xcel Energy through our claims process‚” the company said in a statement. Those strong winds‚ along with dry grass and temperatures reaching into the 70s and 80s fed the flames. Containment levels have been increasing. The Smokehouse Creek fire was 74% contained Thursday‚ while the Windy Deuce fire was 89%. But the Forest Service warned that high winds were expected to be moving across the dry landscape‚ increasing fire danger. Downed power lines and other utility equipment have led to other major wildfires‚ including the deadly blaze in Maui last year and a massive California wildfire in 2019. A lawsuit filed last week in Hemphill County alleged that a downed power line near the town of Stinnett on Feb. 26 sparked the Smokehouse Creek fire. The lawsuit‚ filed on behalf of a Stinnett homeowner against Xcel Energy‚ alleged the blaze started “when a wooden pole defendants failed to properly inspect‚ maintain and replace‚ splintered and snapped off at its base.” WATCH:

The website published classified documents in 2010 from U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning‚ including documents about Iran’s backing of militants in Iraq and video footage of a U.S. helicopter attack that killed civilians. In May 2019‚ the U.S. Justice Department announced a federal grand jury indicted Assange on 17 charges of espionage and one charge of computer misuse. Assange has been held in London’s Belmarsh Prison for five years‚ after he was arrested for skipping bail. Previously‚ Assange spent seven years inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden‚ where he faced allegations of rape and sexual assault. The U.S. wants Assange‚ 52‚ sent to the U.S. to face his charges‚ but Assange’s lawyers are trying to stop him from being sent. This month would be the earliest when Assange could find out whether he can challenge extradition. Shipton has advocated for his brother’s release‚ including visiting Washington‚ D.C.‚ to lobby on Assange’s behalf. He is the chair of the Assange Campaign‚ which was organized to support and protect Assange and has previously said that Assange’s charges have driven a wedge between the U.S. and Australia.
