Is Presidential Immunity in the Constitution?

Question: Could Congress, consistent with the Constitution, enact a statute making it a crime for any person to direct or participate in the use of American military force in the absence of a declaration of war by Congress against the target of that use of force? Or how about being more direct in targeting the president: Could Congress make it a crime to issue a pardon to a person who has been convicted of conspiring to defraud the United States? I think the answer to both these questions...

Woody Harrelson shares how he ditched his phone after failing to limit his screen time

On a recent episode of his “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast, Ted Danson noted that Woody Harrelson doesn’t have a phone. He even joked that the “Hunger Games” star was “one of those bullies in life that make other people carry his phone for him.”Harrelson quickly clarified that Danson’s jape wasn’t “exactly true,” sharing what really led him to ditching his device three and a half years ago.“Well, I just don’t like to have, you know, to be readily available to any human being at any time,” he told Danson. “I like to be in touch with people in a way, but I don’t like the appendage on my appendage.”Harrelson’s sentiment is certainly a relatable one. But it’s his failed attempts to “limit” his screen time that really resonate.“Back then I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to set this limit. Two hours,’ ” Harrelson reflected. “It’s like 9:30. You know, I’ve already hit my limit at 9:30, so I woke up, and I’ve been on it two hours already because, cuz you know how it can just keep going and going.”Goodness, how many of us have tried—and failed—to limit our screen time? Even with little alerts that say “you have five more minutes'' on various apps, those alerts are easy to ignore once you do it a couple of times. Another strategy might be putting our phones on “Do Not Disturb” to ward off notifications, or setting it to “Night Mode” so that the screen is less bright and eye-catching. But anecdotally, all of these hacks seem to only do so much. Harrelson also explained that he would find himself at dinner and and instantly reaching for his phone once there was a lull in the conversation. Who among us hasn’t been guilty of this modern day social faux pas? It even ignited the seemingly short-lived “phone stacking” movement, where friends going out to dinner would all stack their phones on the table, and whoever reached for their device first would have to cover the tab. See on Instagram Lastly, Harrelson admitted he only ever used the phone to send texts, rather than make phone calls. According to Statista, texting is by far the most common phone activity, followed by emails, app usage, online shopping, internet, etc. Making phone calls didn’t even seem to make the list. All this to say—phone addiction might not be on the same level as substance addiction, but its addictive qualities are incredibly hard to shake. And this is partially due to the fact that our society enables and encourages phone usage, much in the same way that alcohol is a fully ingrained aspect of our culture. Paul Graham, famed Silicon Valley investor, notes that often society forms “antibodies” against addictive new things, coming first in the form of a change in public opinion, followed by a change in legislation. He uses the example of smoking, and how it went from being “totally normal” to something “seedy,” and eventually laws were created to match societal change. Even with alcohol we have seen this, with alcohol-free bars even becoming mainstream. What makes “technology addiction” different, however, is how rapidly it evolves. “Unless the rate at which social antibodies evolve can increase to match the accelerating rate at which technological progress throws off new addictions, we'll be increasingly unable to rely on customs to protect us. Unless we want to be canaries in the coal mine of each new addiction—the people whose sad example becomes a lesson to future generations—we'll have to figure out for ourselves what to avoid and how. It will actually become a reasonable strategy (or a more reasonable strategy) to suspect everything new,” he writes. So, if our current world really doesn’t offer any buffers between us and our devices, Harrelson’s cold turkey approach does make some sense. Not that his approach is in any way feasible for 99% of us. But still, it offers some food for thought. Without agreed upon collective changes to our phone behavior, what chance does an individual really have of breaking free of this widely common habit? Is the only option to opt out entirely? These are questions thus far without answers. But what an important conversation to have moving forward.

Woman creates viral music video about how doctors don't understand the female body

Sometimes you come across something that makes you giggle and want to cry all at the same time. Laughter can help take the sting out of uncomfortable or upsetting information and Farideh (@ilove farideh) has found a way to make hard truths funny with music videos. Recently the Instagram creator uploaded a video poking fun at the medical mystery that is the human female body. Women have been a mystery in the medical community for as long as medicine has been around. Of course doctors know that women exist and the inner workings of the human bodies but there seems to be something about uterus owners that baffles doctors. It ranges from hormones to pain levels, to specific issues related to having a uterus.Farideh covers it all in a catchy tune complete with pretty awesome dance moves that has commenters clapping along. The song starts off with the woman listing multiple medical conditions specific to woman, endometriosis, PCOS and more before singing, "what's happening to your body, we don't know because we've never really studied the female body.""You say it's all in my head but the research is quite spotty," Farideh sings. Women in the comments are backing up the woman with her musical observation of what it's like to navigate the medical complex as a person born with female reproductive systems. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Farideh (@ilovefarideh) "She came for the entire failure of the medical community with a banger and bars. Not one lie told," one person says."'Just take birth control pills' - every single doctor for any symptom at all," another writes."Thank you for doing this. This is art. This is iconic. This. Is. Our. Anthem. 'Do you have pain? No you don't.'" someone agrees."Thanks. I hate it because it rings so true, but love you for singing the truth," one commenter shares. While many women in the comments were praising the creator, others shared their heartbreaking reality of not being taken seriously when seeking medical care. "'I don’t feel quite right and I’m so lethargic'. GP: lose weight, exercise more, see my partner who is a psychologist. It was stage 3 cancer. I wish I was joking," a woman reveals."Immediately after giving birth, my uterus didn't contract and I was hemorrhaging significantly. I was in severe pain. They thought I was overreacting and having a panic attack so instead of treating my problem, they gave me a dose of Lorazepam to shut me up. I ended up losing over 3 litters of blood, went into shock, and had to be resuscitated. Why are there so many stories like this? Unacceptable," another explains. While Farideh's song is amusing, the issue she's highlighting is extremely important. Hopefully the research gap will be addressed so women can feel listened to and cared for when they seek medical attention.

19 common American things in film and TV that definitely don't happen in real life

Odds are you’ve come across a movie or television moment that made you think, “this definitely would never happen in real life.” Or maybe you thought something about a time or place which wasn’t actually real, thanks to a show you watched. I, for example, totally thought separate his & hers beds were a common thing in the 50s, thanks to “I Love Lucy.”That’s kind of the magic of motion pictures. The line between reality and illusion is sometimes so blurred you really can’t discern between the whole “art imitating life” and “life imitating art” thing. Of course, the unbelievability of some common tropes make you wonder how they’ve endured for so long in the first place. Recently, Reddit user rustyyryan asked: "What American thing is not that common but shown in many Hollywood movies/TV shows?"Thousands responded. But here are some of the best answers. 1. "On Law and Order, when the police come and people keep doing their drone jobs. Sorry, but the most exciting thing in my day is a visit by the police, so I’m stopping everything, offering coffee, asking lots of questions, and ratting out my neighbors on unrelated things!" —wawa2022via GIPHY"The other thing with Law and Order and other cop shows is that people always act annoyed toward the cops. IRL, the vast majority of people are not going to act that way. I’ve had a couple of cop visits and I was always shocked and kind of nervous and there was no way I would have acted like they were getting on my nerves!"—logorrhea692."Presents where the box lid is wrapped separately from the rest of the box." —sra19"This drives me crazy! I get it...it would be a huge hassle to have to re-wrap a present for every take, plus you have to worry about continuity, but I have literally never seen a present wrapped this way in my life."—yourlittlebirdie3. "At schools, teachers give assignments like normal people and don't shout it at the class as they're departing after the bell rings." —Beezo514via GIPHY4. "Women having sex while wearing a bra the whole time. That's the first or second thing I take off of her." —BendingDoor5. "The houses and apartments shown do not represent the living conditions of most folks." —rjainsa"One of the reasons Spielberg's films from the '80s/'90s were so believable was that he insisted on houses looking lived in. The Goonies and E.T. both showed messy houses, single parents, scruffy kids, etc." —springloadednadsackvia GIPHY6. "Empty parking spaces on city streets." —other_half_of_elvis7. "Especially right in front of the place you’re going."—BxAnnie8. "Moms making huge breakfasts that no one eats." —babyfresno779. "This is the one. Every time, I’m like, 'What time are these kids getting up? What time does school start?'"—DanDan_notaman10. "Cars exploding in a crash." —St_Ander"My husband is a firefighter, and he hates car explosion scenes in movies because they don't happen the way movies show them happening."—Specialist-Funny-92611."I noticed that no one has screens on their windows on TV. Where I live the bugs would carry you away." —RusticSurgeryvia GIPHY"This one drives my husband crazy. He always comments on this when someone opens a window, sticks their head out, or throws something out. Could not do that where I live."—Sunnywithachance09912. "Shoes on the bed." —slash-5"I absolutely hate that trope. People with their shoes on beds or sofas. Hate it."—Farscape2913. "Classes last longer than for the teacher to say something pithy, ask someone a question and then hear the bell ring. School buses don't honk for your lollygagging ass. If the bus stop is empty, they keep driving." —Scrotchety14. "Halloween party costumes are much more elaborate on TV compared to real life." —Fireproofspidervia GIPHY"You never see anyone in some crap they picked up at Spirit Halloween 30 minutes before the party."—Repulsive-Heron702315. "Nobody ever has to ask someone to repeat themselves in a movie. I probably say, 'What?' about 60 times a day." —Street-Suitable"This is all TV and movies. Nobody ever stumbles over their words unless it is a plot-necessary miscommunication or the bumbly can't get my words out trope."—Jimmy_riddle8616. "Abrupt endings to conversations or phone calls without saying bye." —ParapluieGrisvia GIPHY"OMG, thank you. Seriously, I wondered if people actually did this."—raggitytits17. "The idea that you could be like six months behind on rent before they threaten to evict you, or six months behind on the power bill before they cut off your electricity. Maybe it used to be like that, but it sure isn’t anymore." —komeau18. "People in a bar ordering a 'beer.' In real life, the server would likely be exasperated and ask about brand/kind and quantity." —remymartinia"This one drives me nuts. I have never once in my 14 years working at restaurants and bars had someone just order a 'beer.'"—EveInGardenia…and lastly…19. "Kids dressed up for school, which would result in them being sent home to change…Also, teens wearing stilettos to school." —Wulfkat via GIPHY "Most teenagers today wear a baggy sweatshirt or a large T-shirt to school."—Randomthoughts4041

A company in Switzerland known as “Final Spark” has constructed a bizarre hybrid biocomputer that combines lab-grown miniature human brains with conventional electronic circuits.  This approach saves an extraordinary amount of energy compared […]

Time to Become a Hindu

by Doug Casey, International Man: For centuries, East Indians have regarded gold as the primary source of wealth. All Indians own gold if they can afford to. They keep it as close as possible, sometimes in coin form, but often as jewellery, since “wearing wealth” means that it can be kept very close. They’re often especially reluctant […]

The Brutal History of the Gombe Chimpanzee War

Gombe Stream National Park, nestled in the heart of Tanzania, is a place of stunning natural beauty. Steep valleys, diverse forest vegetation, and a rich array of wildlife characterize the park. Accessible only by boat, its secluded location ensures the park’s ecosystem remains unique and largely undisturbed. Lake Tanganyika lies on its western border, inviting visitors to swim among dozens of tropical fish species. However, one of the most fascinating aspects of Gombe Stream National Park is its chimpanzee population, made famous by the groundbreaking research of primatologist Jane Goodall in the 1970s. The Seeds of Conflict Jane Goodall’s journey to Gombe began in the 1960s when she was sent to observe chimpanzees. At the time, chimpanzees were generally regarded as amiable and non-violent creatures. Goodall’s extensive research, however, revealed the complexities of chimpanzee behavior, including their capacity for violence, political alliances, and territorial disputes. Goodall discovered that chimpanzees in Gombe formed hunting parties to capture smaller monkeys, displaying a surprising level of brutality. Her observations also noted that these primates lived in communities often divided by the park’s natural terrain, with groups consisting of up to forty members. The conflict known as the Gombe Chimpanzee War erupted in 1974, but its roots traced back several years earlier. In the late 1960s, the Kasakela tribe of chimpanzees in Gombe was a unified group led by Leakey, the alpha male. Following Leakey’s death in 1970, a power struggle emerged within the tribe. Humphrey, a dominant but not extraordinary chimp, succeeded Leakey as the alpha male. His leadership was contested by two brothers, Charlie and Hugh, who began to challenge his authority. This internal conflict gradually led to a division within the Kasakela tribe. Humphrey’s faction, the Kasakela, stayed in the northern part of the park, consisting of Humphrey, Figan, Satan, Sherry, Evered, Rodolf, Jomeo, twelve adult females, and their young. In contrast, Charlie and Hugh led a splinter group southward, forming the Kahama tribe with Godi, De, Goliath, the young Sniff, three adult females, and their offspring. These two groups coexisted for several years with a growing sense of tension. The Outbreak of War The simmering tensions erupted into open conflict in January 1974. The precise trigger remains unclear, but a war party of six Kasakela males, including Humphrey, attacked Godi from the Kahama tribe while he was feeding. Godi was ambushed and beaten with a rock, and although he escaped, he was never seen again. This marked the first recorded instance of chimpanzees killing one of their own, a shocking revelation for Goodall and her team. Over the next four years, Humphrey’s group systematically targeted the Kahama males. De and Hugh were ambushed and killed, often while they were foraging alone. Even Goliath, who had been friendly with the Kasakela, fell victim to an attack. The relentless assaults continued until all the Kahama males, including the young Sniff, were dead. The Kasakela then turned their attention to the Kahama females, killing some, causing others to disappear, and assimilating the rest. Scientific Skepticism and Validation Initially, Goodall’s findings were met with skepticism. Critics accused her of anthropomorphizing the chimpanzees and influencing their behavior through her interactions. However, subsequent studies by other scientists confirmed that such violent behavior and territorial wars were not unique to Gombe. Similar patterns were observed in 18 different African chimpanzee communities, validating Goodall’s observations. These studies revealed that chimpanzee social structures are complex and deeply rooted in primate evolution. The death of an alpha male often led to a power struggle and subsequent conflicts. Various factors, including resource scarcity or competition for mates could trigger such wars. The Aftermath After exterminating the Kahama tribe, the Kasakela took over their territory. However, their victory was short-lived. A larger group of chimpanzees, the Kalande, invaded the newly acquired land. Faced with superior numbers, the Kasakela retreated to their original territory, bringing the conflict to a close by 1978. Goodall’s documentation of the Gombe Chimpanzee War provided unprecedented insight into chimpanzee social dynamics. Her detailed observations and subsequent digitization of her notes have made this significant period in primate research accessible to a broader audience. Despite the initial controversy, her work remains a cornerstone in studying primate behavior and has dramatically enhanced our understanding of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. The post The Brutal History of the Gombe Chimpanzee War first appeared on History Defined.

Introducing JudoNoah.com! Let Me Explain….

Hi friends, Noah here and I’ve got something very exciting to show you today…I think you’re going to love the new thing I’m doing! It’s a brand new project I’ve been working on that is going to allow us to make a HUGE impact before the election! It’s called JudoNoah.com and I’ll tell you what that means in just a moment… First I have to give you some background. Some of you have been here long enough that you will remember all of this, but some of you might be too new. Basically, me and Facebook have a rocky history…. It’s a Love/Hate relationship. I loved being on Facebook, but Mark Zuckerberg hated me being on Facebook. So we decided to compromise, and by that I mean Mark Zuckerberg kicked me off Facebook. Twice. Each time, I had created a community of 1.5 MILLION people! In fact, most of you reading this were probably in one of those communities, given that we have about 5 million monthly readers here and 1.5 million x 2 = 3 million people. Why is that frustrating? It’s not about me…it’s about YOU!  It’s about US! You see, they didn’t just delete ME….they deleted all of you! You all signed up to follow what I was posting, you enjoyed it, found it entertaining and educational, but Mark Zuckerberg decided he knew better than you.  He knew that you shouldn’t be allowed to see what I post, so he inserted his will in place of yours and POOF — I was gone and so was my connection to you! The other reason it matters is how many votes did President Trump get in 2016?  63 million, I believe is the official tally. And how many votes did he get in 2020?  Arguably somewhere north of 80 million or much higher if the truth were known. But how much is 5 million compared to 63 million? It’s actually a pretty decent chunk! And THAT, my friends, is why I believe I was deleted.  Twice. Because we were having way too big of an impact on the national discourse. Simply put? We. Were. Winning! And Mark Zuckerberg and all his Big Tech friends can’t have that.  Can’t allow it! The first time I was kicked off and the first 1.5 million people went POOF – GONE was right before the 2020 election.  It was the Summer of 2020, I still remember it vividly. Funny timing isn’t it? The second time we built up a SECOND following of a new 1.5 million people was just last year. But here’s the deal…. I don’t like losing and I really don’t like quitting. It’s just not in my DNA. I also want to do everything I can to push President Trump over the edge (legally of course) in the 2024 election, and so I’m jumping back in the fight. You see, Facebook is still the #3 most used website in the USA: I love Twitter and I think Twitter will eventually overtake Facebook, but right now there are still MORE people on Facebook than there are on Twitter, so I am going where the people are…..back to Facebook! I am still on Twitter and very active over there, so make sure you’re following me on there too:  https://x.com/DailyNoahNews But I’m going back to the Lion’s Den, and I’m now BACK on Facebook! And here’s the thing…. Einstein is often credited with saying that the very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. If I plant soybeans, and a soybean crop comes up year after year after year, it would be “insane” of me to plant soybeans and expect to see corn grow. Right? So if I’ve been deleted from Facebook twice, what makes me think this time will be any different? There’s where JudoNoah comes in! We’re getting smart and we’re getting TACTICAL! And just like in Judo, we are going to use the enemy’s energy against them!  We’re going to go right into the Lion’s Den and use their platform to elect Donald J. Trump once again! In judo, the principle of using an opponent’s aggression against them is central to the philosophy and technique of the sport. This approach is encapsulated in the Japanese term “ju,” which means “gentle” or “yielding.” Here’s how it works in practice: Absorbing the Attack: Judo teaches practitioners to not meet force with force but rather to use an opponent’s energy to their advantage. When an opponent attacks aggressively, a judoka (a practitioner of judo) will often yield rather than resist. By moving in the same direction as the attack and maintaining balance, the judoka can manage and redirect the force. Redirection: Once the attack is absorbed, the next step is to redirect the opponent’s momentum. This is done through skilled footwork and body positioning. For instance, if an opponent pushes forward, instead of pushing back, a judoka might step to the side, pulling the opponent past them or turning their push into a spin. Leverage and Balance: Using leverage is crucial in judo. Techniques involve grips, holds, and fulcrums, allowing a smaller or weaker individual to off-balance and throw an opponent effectively. By understanding the mechanics of movement and balance, a judoka can manipulate an opponent’s body into positions that compromise their stability. Execution of Techniques: Judo techniques such as throws, joint locks, and pins are then applied at the moment when the opponent is most unbalanced. The timing of these techniques is critical; they must coincide with the peak of the opponent’s committed movement and loss of balance to be most effective. Efficiency and Control: The ultimate goal in judo is to execute these techniques efficiently, using minimal effort to achieve maximum effect. This is often seen in competitions where a seemingly effortless move can neutralize a much larger opponent’s aggressive attack. Ok, so now let’s get specific…. Let me show you two posts they flagged the last time I got banned. You’re really gonna get a kick out of these. Here’s the first one they flagged me for: You know what they said? It’s a meme!  But they “Fact-Checked” the meme and they claimed President Trump never said this exact quote so I was publishing “Fake News”. Never mind the fact it’s a MEME for goodness sake! Memes are intended to convey ideas! They literally fact-checked a meme! It would be hilarious if it weren’t so frustrating. Not to mention the fact that there are no quotes around these letters, so even the meme itself is not claiming he actually, literally, verbatim said this. In reality though, it’s even worse because he has said it, multiple times. But they didn’t care. All appeals denied. Never even reached a human. And here was the next one: “You Stab ‘Em, I’ll Slab ‘Em!” It was a major news story covered by Local WSOC: A man is hoping a billboard that reads “You stab ‘em… I’ll slab ‘em!” will catch voters’ attention as he pushes to become the Catawba County coroner. That billboard is along one of the busiest roads in Newton, Business 321. But as Channel 9’s Dave Faherty learned, the county isn’t even looking for a coroner. Attorney Shell Pearce showed Faherty the general statutes set out by the state he says allows for each county to have a coroner. But in 2020, the General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to abolish the office of the coroner in the four remaining counties that still had one. “With the rising number of fatalities, drug overdoses, criminal activity, things like that — it doesn’t make sense that the coroner should not exist,” Pearce said. So this man had a brilliant marketing campaign looking to bring awareness to the rising local crime. What did Facebook think? Facebook flagged ME and claimed me posting about this news story was "inciting violence". Absolutely nonsense. I appealed multiple times, but all were rejected.  I don't even think a real human being ever looked at them.  Just computers.  Just algorithms.  Just AI. So here's what we're gonna do this time... We're going to deploy some JUDO and we're going to beat the computers at their own game! Time to go covert and fly under the radar.... Since we can never win by arguing our case because there is no actual human to talk to, we are going to fly under the radar and simply not get detected. Here's how.... You see, one thing about computers is they're really good at some things but they're really bad and dumb at others. Never underestimate the power of the human brain. On Facebook, we will only post articles from a new site we are creating called JudoNoah.com. That site will be identical to WLTReport.com except for one important detail.... The headlines of each article will be altered just a bit so that the computers at Facebook that scan them won't detect anything. Imagine this article looks like this on WLTReport.com but Facebook would flag that in a heart beat for "inciting violence" because it says FIGHT BACK: How You Can FIGHT BACK Right Now (Peacefully and Patriotically, Of Course) So on JudoNoah.com, were we deploy martial arts, that headline will instead read like this: How You Can F*GHT B*CK R*ght Now (Peacefully and Patriotically, Of Course) Nice, right? See, your brain can read that just fine, but the Facebook computers?  Nada.  A big strikeout! And we fly ever so beautifully right under the radar on our way back up to 1.5 million followers making a huge difference in the 2024 election! Here's one more example: WATCH: Maxine Waters Predicts Violence, Mass ‘Killings’ If Trump Wins In November Even though that's Maxine Waters in a direct quote, you know Facebook is going to flag that one too. So instead of it looking like that, it will be identical except it will come from JudoNoah.com and the headline will look like this: WATCH: Maxine Waters Pred*cts Viol*nce, Mass ‘K*llings’ If Tr*mp Wins In November Perfect! Once again, your brain can read that just fine, but the computers can't. The computers see nothing wrong. It's a beautiful thing! So...the last piece to the puzzle is I need your help. 1️⃣ Please click here to Like/Follow my new page, it's called JudoNoah and it looks like this:  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61561408200837 I just created it a few minutes ago, and we already have 13 followers. I think we can be up to 100,000 pretty quickly. But I need your help. 2️⃣ When you see posts from me on Facebook after you're following the Page, please LIKE and SHARE them to help us grow faster.   I have no doubt once people see we're back they will be happy to get connected again. So there you go! We still have 4 critical months to go between now and the election and I'm ready to give it everything we've got. Thanks in advance for your help! Noah
