The brother of a woman who police say was raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant from El Salvador called out President Joe Biden in a speech at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, saying that her death was preventable.  Michael Morin, the brother of Rachel Morin, said Biden’s border policies led to his sister’s death. Rachel, a mother of five, was killed after she went for a run on a trail in Hartford County, Maryland, in August 2023. The man arrested for her murder and rape, 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, illegally entered the United States in February 2023 under Biden’s watch, according to law enforcement.  “Rachel, a joyful accomplished athlete and mother of five, was raped and murdered by a suspected illegal immigrant. This was described as among the most brutal and violent offenses that has ever occurred in Hartford County, Maryland, history,” Morin said during his speech. “Open borders are often portrayed as compassionate, but there is nothing compassionate about allowing violent criminals into our country and robbing children of their mother. My sister’s death was preventable.”  According to Morin, neither Biden nor Harris ever reached out to him after his sister’s murder.  “Joe Biden and his designated border czar, Kamala Harris, opened our borders to him, and others like him, empowering them to victimize the innocent,” he said. “Yet, to this day, we have not heard from Joe Biden or Kamala Harris. They never apologized.” Morin said former President Donald Trump called to offer condolences and asked to meet with him.  “What has gotten us through this unthinkable loss is our faith in Jesus Christ,” he said. “ And as brutal as the murder of my sister was, I pray that our killer will find Jesus Christ. For all the affected by senseless tragedy, I pray for peace.” The trial for Hernandez is expected to begin in October. He is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree rape, second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, and kidnapping. Trump has made cracking down on illegal immigration a large part of his presidential campaign. The RNC platform this year focuses on securing the southern border and deporting illegal immigrants. 

Woke ideology is everywhere. Over the past thirty years, it has captured many American institutions. Like many people, I once assumed that young Americans who dabbled in a little political correctness at college would soon grow out of it when they left. I was wrong. Rather than change when they entered the world of work, they changed the workplace. Today there is hardly an HR department in corporate America that is not committed to promoting Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). A generation ago, corporate America did not know what a preferred pronoun was. Today you cannot apply for a job without declaring yours. DEI means that Martin Luther King’s vision of a color blind meritocracy is in danger of slipping away. Obama’s election to the White House was supposed to herald a post-racial America. America today feels like it is increasingly re-racialized. If you had told me at the time of the Iraq war that American students would be protesting in support of Hamas in 2024, I would not have believed you. So prevalent are the extreme Left on campus it’s seldom considered newsworthy today. Conservative America needs to launch a concerted effort to fight back. It is not enough to hope that Congress passes legislation. I’m done hoping my governor gets around to issuing an Executive Order to defeat DEI. We need to take action ourselves by ensuring our own families are immunized against the woke mind-virus. Born in Britain and raised in Uganda, I came to America by choice. Shocked at how social media and progressive professors often teach young Americans to think the worst of their country, I did not want my young daughter to grow up seeing things that way. So, I started to tell my daughter what I felt she needed to know about her new home. America, I explained, was founded in liberty. Sure, I joked, the first Americans might have beaten Brits like us at Yorktown, but the important thing is that liberty that won.  Returning from a trip to Washington DC, we talked about why the US Constitution was one of the best systems of government in the world. The Founders, we discussed, borrowed from both the English and the Roman tradition (There’s a reason the Senate is called the Senate).  America might be a superpower, I wanted her to understand, but America has for the most part used that strength wisely. The United States has not built an empire, but used her might to set other people free. Talking in our kitchen one day, I pointed at all the everyday objects around us – light bulbs, microwaves, a passing airplane – to illustrate that Americans are remarkably inventive. Discussing George Washington’s letter to the congregation at Touro synagogue one evening, I explained that Jewish and Christian beliefs are the key to understanding Americans’ strong sense of individualism. As we celebrated our first Thanksgiving, I told her it was a chance for every American to feel gratitude for being here, whether your ancestors arrived at the end of the last ice age, or like our family, a few months earlier. No matter how carefully we raise our children, it is inevitable that as they grow up they will be exposed to the “woke” mind virus. Teaching them these basic truths about America, I believe, will give them an antidote against it. When our children come across progressive professors, or leftist ideas on social media, or through friends of friends, knowing the truth about their country will prove important. If we do not teach our families these truths about America, TikTok and progressive professors will fill the void. That’s why I decided to take these six lessons and turn it into an illustrated children’s story book, “What Makes America Special.” I want every child in the country to be able to draw from the lessons I taught my daughter about our new home. We all take for granted the things we are familiar with. It is human nature to overlook what we have always known. So take it from me as an immigrant when I tell you that this is an extraordinary country. America’s success is not a question of having lots of natural resources. The American achievement cannot be attributed to geography or the climate. This country is exceptional not because the laws of physics are any different over here. The United States has flourished because of decisions made in a courthouse in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787, which hardwired freedom into the DNA of the young Republic. So long as America stays true to that tradition, each generation of Americans will bequeath an even greater country. The second day of the Republican National Convention (RNC) kicked off under the theme “Make America Safe Once Again,” but the more poignant message appeared to be Republican unity amid Democratic disarray. Tuesday featured speeches from a number of former President Donald Trump’s vanquished GOP competitors, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Ted Cruz of Texas – both of whom Trump beat for the nomination in 2016 – also addressed the convention. Haley, who was Trump’s last biggest competitor in the 2024 primary, delivered her “strong endorsement” of Trump during her RNC address. Her message was directed toward voters who don’t “agree with Trump 100% of the time,” encouraging them to unify around the GOP candidate to remove President Joe Biden from office. “We agree on keeping America strong. We agree on keeping America safe. In a stunning revelation, popular conservative pundit Dan Bongino told The Daily Wire on Wednesday that an insider source told him a local police counter-sniper post never showed up for the rally in Pennsylvania where a gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop and nearly assassinated former President Donald Trump. Bongino, who previously served in the New York Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service, also relayed that President Joe Biden’s White House and the Homeland Security Department (DHS) instructed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to clam up about the security failure at the event or risk losing her job. An “unimpeachable source” divulged last night that there was “supposed to be a local police department counter-sniper post,” Bongino told Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro. “There were two Secret Service counter-sniper teams. That was supposed to be an additional one. Yet now the Secret Service is “getting backlash” for the roof claim, which was made by Cheatle in an interview with ABC News, Bongino noted. “They don’t know what to do, they don’t want to tell the truth that they just never checked the post that he showed up, and the post didn’t, so now they’re burying themselves,” he said. Investigations are underway into the security failure that allowed the gunman to get on a nearby rooftop and shoot Trump in the ear in addition to killing one rallygoer and injuring two others. A Secret Service sniper reportedly shot and killed the gunman from another building while other personnel rushed to protect Trump. Bongino said the White House and DHS are giving Cheatle “very strict orders” to “basically shut her mouth about this or she’s out,” adding that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is “vigorously” defending Cheatle because he “basically knows she has all the cookies in the cookie jar, and there’s no excuse for that.” The host of “The Dan Bongino Show” also talked to Shapiro about what he described as the “golden rule of Secret Service Protection, or any EP, Executive Protection for that matter,” which he explained was “when a threat presents itself, you get off the ‘X'” where the assailant is planning to hit a mark — in this case, on stage. “The ‘X’ is where that protectee’s standing, or is in a car, a vehicle gets stopped and they start firing at it with RPGs, you get the hell off the ‘X.’ Cover and evacuate. Because they hold the president there when something’s amiss.” Bongino, in wrapping up his comments on the topic, said, “Why was he not in the holding room? Why did you let him walk on stage with an open threat? The catastrophic failures in judgment here are legion, and it’s hard for me, as a guy who’s very proud of this agency and what I did there, to digest this all.”

In the latest salvo in the war of words between Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk and California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, Musk pronounced that Newsom’s “career is over.” On Monday, Newsom signed into law AB 1955, which barred school districts from alerting parents of their children’s sexuality, or if they use pronouns or have adopted gender identities that conflict with those on their school records. Musk recalled that he had warned Newsom last year that if the law were passed, it would force families and companies to leave California “to protect their children.” The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Musk had pledged to give roughly $45 million a month to America PAC, which supports former president Trump’s reelection campaign. On Tuesday, Musk announced that in response to the passing of AB 1955, he would relocate his companies out of the so-called Golden State, tweeting, “This is the final straw. That prompted author and journalist Michael Shellenberger, a foe of the environmental movement who also challenged Newsom in two gubernatorial elections, to fire, “You took the most beautiful state and made it the ugliest. You increased homelessness by 40%. You let addicts die on the street.  You unleashed violent crime. Now you’re trying to medically mistreat children. You’re the worst governor in our state’s history. Resign.” Musk then offered his succinct conclusion to the episode, writing bluntly, “Gavin’s career is over.” Musk has an estranged relationship with his child who reportedly came out as transgender as a 16-year-old, which he partly blames on a leftist school his child attended in Los Angeles.
