DEVELOPING: Multiple House Democrats Reportedly Force Entry Into ICE Facility, Mayor Arrested

Three House Democrats and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka reportedly forced their entry into a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in New Jersey on Friday. According to Fox News, Reps. Rob Menendez Jr., Bonnie Watson Coleman and LaMonica McIver, all New Jersey Democrats, “stormed through the gates” of ICE’s Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark. The incident led to Baraka being taken away in handcuffs. The lawmakers were outside the facility with a group of protesters when the gates opened to allow an ICE bus in. The lawmakers then rushed through the gates and past security, DHS said. Activists have demanded entry into the facility in recent days, saying the GEO Group, the building’s new owner, is unlawfully preventing it from being inspected. “We’re at Delaney Hall, an ICE prison in Newark that opened without permission from the city & in violation of local ordinances,” Coleman wrote on X. “We’ve heard stories of what it’s like in other ICE prisons. We’re exercising our oversight authority to see for ourselves.” McIver said the “lack of transparency around what’s happening with ICE in this facility is unacceptable. People deserve dignity and we need answers.” We’re at Delaney Hall, an ICE prison in Newark that opened without permission from the city & in violation of local ordinances. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW,” Alina Habba, U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, said. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing), Rob Menendez (D-Jersey City), and LaMonica McIver (D-Newark) today for another attempt to, in their words, “conduct oversight at the facility.” “We’re very concerned,” Watson Coleman told facility officials early on in the visit. “Concerned about your safety, concerned about the safety of the people in this country, and most extraordinarily concerned about the possibility of any abuse of power used by this administration.” Eventually, for reasons that as of now remain unclear, a scuffle broke out between a group of protesters who had gathered in support of the four Democratic politicians and Delaney Hall officials. By the end, Baraka – also a current Democratic candidate for governor – had apparently been arrested, though it’s not immediately clear on what charges. As of publication time, Baraka remained detained; he was initially led back inside the facility before later being moved to another location a few miles away. This is a developing story.

Uh Oh, Joe Biden’s Return to Politics Is to Save His Legacy

Joe Biden began his return to politics three weeks ago to save his legacy, but so far, it has only brought a lot of cringeworthy moments. His people employed Chris Meagher, a campaign and communications strategist, to do what he does best – hide the facts. Meagher is the guy you use to cover up […] The post Uh Oh, Joe Biden’s Return to Politics Is to Save His Legacy appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Catholic Hosts Of ‘The View’ Were Hoping For A New Pope Who Was Less … Catholic

The Catholic hosts of ABC’s “The View” made it clear on Friday that they would have been much happier with a new Pope who was less … Catholic — and said they were particularly concerned over his previous support for a Biblical view of marriage. Just one day after the white smoke appeared above the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican — and the announcement that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, originally from Chicago, would become Pope Leo XIV — the cohosts gathered around the table to discuss their concerns about what he might support as pontiff. Sunny Hostin has always touted her “devout” Catholic faith, despite her own support for social issues that are not embraced by the church, such as abortion and LGBTQ+ issues, and she immediately voiced concerns that Pope Leo XIV might take a Biblical view of marriage and the LGBTQ+ community. “I’m a little concerned about this choice for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2012, he gave an address to bishops, and he lamented ‘the popular culture fostered and sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the gospel.’ And that’s a quote,” she complained. “And then he cited the homosexual lifestyle and alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children.” Hostin then went on to praise the late Pope Francis for making “great changes in terms of embracing the LGBTQ+ community,” and said that it was her hope that Pope Leo XIV would not “roll back” those changes. WATCH: Purported “devout Catholic” Sunny Hostin fears Pope Leo XIV because of he believes marriage is between a man and a woman: “I’m a little concerned about this choice for the LGBTQ+ community. So, until we see otherwise, I think we need to pray and hope that he follows in Francis’ footsteps in being inclusive, forgiving, compassionate, welcoming, and speaking up for the marginalized, speaking up for the poor, speaking up for the migrants, speaking up for the targeted, speaking up for all those people that today feel alone.” WATCH: Sara Haines, who “grew up presbyterian” and has expressed very hateful anti-Catholic views on the show, tries to smear Leo with accusations she admits are unsupported: “The Conclave looked past allegations that he had — this pope had mishandled or failed to act on sexual abuse… pic.twitter.com/hLQA2Jl7oI — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) May 9, 2025 Cohost Sara Haines, who was raised in the Presbyterian Church, echoed the concerns raised by Hostin and Navarro, but then added her own worries over reports that the Catholic Church’s new leader had failed to properly handle allegations of sexual abuse involving other priests in the past. “The Conclave looked past allegations that he had — this pope had mishandled or failed to act on sexual abuse cases involving priests in both Peru and the United States … so, to know that that could have been looked past is difficult to reconcile for me,” she said.

EXCLUSIVE: Hegseth Makes Monumental Change To Admissions At Military Academies

EXCLUSIVE: Hegseth Makes Monumental Change To Admissions At Military Academies

WASHINGTON—Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is taking further action to ensure that only the best and brightest applicants enter America’s military academies. Beginning with the 2026 United States Military admissions cycle, the Defense Department will not apply race or sex-based preferences during review processes for applicants to the Military Services Academies, Hegseth announced in a memo exclusively obtained by The Daily Wire. The move is part of the continued pushback from President Donald Trump’s administration to remove ideological principles from his agencies and to focus hiring and admissions on merit, rather than race or sex. This is particularly important in the United States military, Hegseth said in the memo, which was issued Friday, arguing that “only the most qualified candidates are admitted, trained, and ultimately” admitted to lead “the finest fighting force in history.” “The Military Service Academies (MSA) are elite warfighting institutions with long histories of producing world class military officers,” the defense secretary said in the memo. “The Department owes it to our Nation, our Service members, and the young Americans applying to the MSAs to ensure admissions to these prestigious institutions are based exclusively on merit.”   Memo exclusively obtained by The Daily Wire. “Selecting anyone but the best erodes lethality, our warfighting readiness, and undercuts the culture of excellence in our Armed Forces,” Hegseth said. The memo directs secretaries of military departments to certify within 30 days that Military Service Academies’ admissions offices will apply “no consideration of race, ethnicity, or sex” and will offer “admission based exclusively on merit.” “Unlike the previous administration — whose policies put immutable characteristics before ability – Secretary Hegseth is requiring our Military Service Academies to base their admissions exclusively on merit, rewarding individual initiative, excellence, and hard work,” acting Defense Department Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson told The Daily Wire. The Pentagon views the move as necessary to properly defend the United States. The Military Service Academies are a cornerstone in their efforts to produce world-class military officers. After the completion of the 2026 Military Service Academies admissions cycle, the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness will certify that each of the MSAs are compliant with the new practices prioritizing merit, The Daily Wire has learned. “The Department must remain steadfast in its pursuit of excellence and never compromise the high standards at our MSAs,” Hegseth concluded. “A strong officer corps is essential to ensuring the United States military remains the most lethal the world has ever known.” The directive builds off Trump’s January executive order “Restoring America’s Fighting Force,” which states that “no individual or group within our Armed Forces should be preferred or disadvantaged on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, color, or creed.” Trump directed that all DEI offices within the Defense Department be abolished and banned the military from “promoting, advancing, or otherwise inculcating the following un-American, divisive, discriminatory, radical, extremist, and irrational theories.”

Some Companies Are Increasing Prices Over Tariffs, But This One Is Going To Its Lowest Price Ever

Multiple large companies are transferring the cost of tariffs to their customers, raising prices on products ranging from Barbie dolls to cars.  Mattel, the U.S. toy company that makes Barbies, said it plans to raise prices due to President Donald Trump’s 145% tariff on China. Some items on Amazon have seen as much as a 25% increase since Trump’s tariffs went into effect. Meanwhile, Shein, an online clothing store, has jacked up prices by as much as 377%, according to Bloomberg. Ford is also bumping up prices for its cars that are manufactured in Mexico and subject to Trump’s 25% auto import tariff. Those price increases can be a little overwhelming if you dwell on them too long, especially on top of that mortgage that just won’t go away. But don’t worry, there’s some relief!  As some companies navigate this new global economy by sending their customers into sticker shock, you can take a deep breath because Jeremy’s Razors is now offering its lowest price ever for the Precision 5 Razor. Some companies are busy hiking prices to the moon, but Jeremy’s is doubling down on value, making sure you can look good without feeling like you just funded a rocket launch.  Don’t worry about tariffs biting you in the butt when you buy Jeremy’s Precision 5 Starter Set. The Precision 5 is built with five coated stainless steel blades, an Argan oil- and aloe-infused lubricating strip, and a precision trimmer, making this deal too good to pass up on.  No tariff tantrums here — just a smooth, wallet-friendly shave that won’t leave you feeling fleeced. So, ditch the sticker shock and grab Jeremy’s deal before it’s gone!

‘This Hurts American Automakers’: ‘Big Three’ U.S. Car Companies Rip Trump’s U.K Trade Deal

The “Big Three” U.S. car companies are disappointed in President Donald Trump’s trade agreement with the United Kingdom, claiming that the deal will harm “American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers.” The American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC), which represents Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, released a statement on Thursday criticizing Trump’s trade deal with Britain shortly after the agreement was announced in the Oval Office. Trump and his trade officials hailed the deal as a major victory for the president’s economic agenda, but U.S. car manufacturers argue that it prioritizes the United Kingdom “ahead of our North American partners.” Ford, GM, and Stellantis, which make some of their vehicles in Canada and Mexico, are upset that U.K. car companies will only pay a 10% tariff to export to the U.S. market while the American automakers continue to face a 25% tariff for vehicles manufactured outside of the country. “The U.S. automotive industry is highly integrated with Canada and Mexico; the same is not true for the U.S. and UK. We are disappointed that the administration prioritized the UK ahead of our North American partners,” said Matt Blunt, the former Missouri GOP governor who is now the AAPC president. “Under this deal, it will now be cheaper to import a UK vehicle with very little U.S. content than a USMCA compliant vehicle from Mexico or Canada that is half American parts. This hurts American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers.” In a statement to the New York Post on Friday, the White House responded to the automakers’ statement, defending the deal with the United Kingdom. “No president has taken a greater personal interest in reviving the American auto industry than President Trump. The Trump administration is working hand-in-glove with automakers to reshore manufacturing that is critical to our national and economic security, including with custom-tailored tariff relief and deregulatory policies,” said White House spokesman Kush Desai. Trump, through his 25% tariff on auto imports, has been pushing American auto manufacturers to bring manufacturing back to the United States from Canada and Mexico. Last month, the president agreed to provide some tariff relief to U.S. car companies, preventing additional tariffs from stacking on top of each other in exchange for the companies’ commitments to furthering their domestic production. The “Big Three” automakers are now concerned that foreign competition from the United Kingdom will get the upper hand following Trump’s trade deal. Trump’s agreement with the United Kingdom will allow the country to export up to 100,000 cars to the United States for a 10% tariff, a decrease from the president’s 25% duty on other foreign auto imports. In 2024, nearly 16 million total vehicles were sold in the United States. Some of the top-selling British brands include Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Range Rover. Rolls-Royce engines will also be allowed to come into the United States tariff-free. “This historic deal delivers for British business and British workers, protecting thousands of British jobs in key sectors including car manufacturing and steel,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said. U.K. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the BBC that the trade deal came just in time as the country was close to losing thousands of auto manufacturing jobs due to Trump’s tariffs. “This was very serious,” he said. “It would have meant people would have lost their jobs without this breakthrough.” The AAPC added that it hopes “this preferential access for UK vehicles over North American ones does not set a precedent for future negotiations with Asian and European competitors.”
