It’s Only Been A Month And Zohran Mamdani Is Already A Disaster

It’s been a little over a month since a Muslim socialist from Uganda named Zohran Mamdani became the mayor of the largest city in the United States. And while a month isn’t a lot of time in a normal administration, you have to wonder what the city’s many young “democratic socialists” think about the progress so far, or lack thereof.  After all, Mamdani wasn’t supposed to be like any other mayor. The whole point was that he’d be a “revolutionary.” He’d take quick, decisive action to “replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.” He would disregard the rule of law, tax all the rich white people, and make everything cost zero dollars. Unfortunately for Mamdani, it looks like the locals are getting a little restless. They’re not happy with his mother’s appearance in the Epstein Files (she was mentioned by Epstein’s publicist, who said she attended an afterparty for a film at Ghislaine Maxwell’s house). And they’re also angry that Mamdani hasn’t shifted oversight of the police department to a civilian board called the CCRB, which he promised to do, as a way of dismantling the police force and terminating more police officers. So, the other day, a mob gathered outside Mamdani’s house. Watch: New Epstein files show filmmaker Mira Nair, mom of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, went to an afterparty at Ghislaine Maxwell’s house. Now Zohran’s getting called out by voters. “We know about your mom! Shame on you, Zohran, you lied to us.”pic.twitter.com/8msbgWx8eY — Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) February 2, 2026 Credit: @MarioNawfal/X.com That didn’t take long.  They elected a theater kid — supposedly from the middle of nowhere — who promised to burn everything down and completely transform New York City. A month later, they realize he’s a fraudster who has no idea what he was doing, and that his life story is a lot less “storybook” than they had been told. You see, when these people heard Mamdani reading the speechwriter’s line about the “Mexican abuelas, Yemeni bodega owners, Uzbek nurses, and Ethiopian aunties,” they were under the impression that Mamdani had something in common with the working class. And now they’re finding out that, while the Yemeni bodega owners and Trinidadian pimps were earning a living the hard way in the Bronx, Mamdani’s mother was getting name-dropped by Epstein’s publicist. That’s got to be a tough, confusing realization. And it gets worse when you realize that the buses still aren’t free. Mamdani hasn’t even done that yet. The whole point of his campaign was to enable every hobo, drug dealer, and psychotic murderer to hop aboard a bus, any time they wanted. And yet, the buses still cost money. In fact, bus fares have increased since Mamdani took office by around 10 cents. And now the Trump administration says they’re thinking about cutting federal funding to New York if they don’t charge fares, as part of a new transportation bill. So all of a sudden, what seemed to be a very simple, straightforward proposal is turning out to be a lot more complicated. And from the moment Mamdani was elected, that’s raised some questions for New Yorkers. Watch:  New Yorkers are fuming bc Mamdani ain’t delivering on any of the free s’hit he promised So this TikTok’r goes up to a NYC bus driver and asks, ” I thought the fares were free now since Mamdani won ” – driver laughs, “that’s funny, that’s never gonna happen” Can’t make it up pic.twitter.com/iL4CuAPXAc — @Chicago1Ray

Feds Investigate Nike Over Claims Of Discrimination Against White Employees

The Trump administration asked a federal court on Wednesday to compel Nike to produce information on its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals as the athletic footwear and apparel giant faces allegations that it discriminated against white employees. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in a court filing that it is investigating allegations that Nike discriminated against white workers and job applicants to carry out its DEI objectives. The federal government said that Nike also faces accusations of “disparate treatment against white employees” in layoff decisions. Nike refused to comply with a subpoena asking for the information, according to the commission, which has now filed an enforcement action in a federal court. The commission is asking the court to force Nike to hand over information going back to 2018, and especially wants to look into the criteria Nike has used to select people for layoffs. “When there are compelling indications, including corporate admissions in extensive public materials, that an employer’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion-related programs may violate federal prohibitions against race discrimination or other forms of unlawful discrimination, the EEOC will take all necessary steps—including subpoena enforcement actions—to ensure the opportunity to fully and comprehensively investigate,” said Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Chair Andrea Lucas. A Nike spokesman told The Daily Wire that the federal government’s action on Wednesday “feels like a surprising and unusual escalation.” “We have had extensive, good-faith participation in an EEOC inquiry into our personnel practices, programs, and decisions and have had ongoing efforts to provide information and engage constructively with the agency,” the spokesman added. “We have shared thousands of pages of information and detailed written responses to the EEOC’s inquiry and are in the process of providing additional information.” Conservative law firm America First Legal filed a civil rights complaint with the commission in January 2024, highlighting how the company has pushed race- and gender-based hiring practices. In 2025, Nike aimed to have half of its global corporate workforce made up of women, and 35% of its U.S. corporate workforce made up of racial minorities. Nike has also stated that its “Employee Networks” support racial minorities, women, and LGBT people, but noticeably missing from the company’s web page on fostering an “inclusive community” was any mention of straight white men. The Nike spokesman told The Daily Wire that it remains “committed to fair and lawful employment practices and follow all applicable laws, including those that prohibit discrimination.” “We believe our programs and practices are consistent with those obligations and take these matters seriously,” the company added. “We will continue our attempt to cooperate with the EEOC and will respond to the petition.” The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said its investigation into Nike is part of a “renewed … focus on evenhanded enforcement of Title VII,” which prohibits employers from discriminating based on race, religion, or sex. “Title VII’s prohibition of race-based employment discrimination is colorblind and requires the EEOC to protect employees of all races from unlawful employment practices,” the commission added. In recent years, multiple companies and organizations have faced scrutiny over allegations that they have discriminated against white people, especially white men. In 2023, NASCAR removed a racial requirement that discriminated against white applicants in an intern program following a Daily Wire report. The Supreme Court ruled last summer in favor of a white woman who sued after alleging that she was denied a promotion and demoted for being straight, while both the person who received the promotion and took her old job identified as LGBT. The ruling ensured that white and straight people could sue for discrimination without being forced to meet a higher burden of proof.

Trump Says Mass Deportation Campaign Could Use ‘Softer Touch’ After Minneapolis Shootings

President Donald Trump admitted that his immigration enforcement efforts may need a “softer touch” following the two recent fatal shootings in Minneapolis. Trump made the statement during a Wednesday interview with NBC News’ Tom Llamas, who asked what the president learned from the situation in Minneapolis. “I learned that maybe we can use a little bit of a softer touch,” Trump said. “But you still have to be tough. These are criminals. We’re dealing with really hard criminals.” “But look, I’ve called the people. I’ve called the governor. I’ve called the mayor, spoke to him, had great conversations with him, and then I see them ranting and raving out there, literally, as though a call wasn’t made,” he said. Tom @LlamasNBC: “Mr. President, speaking of Minneapolis, what did you learn?” Trump: “I learned that maybe we can use a little bit of a softer touch. But you still have to be tough. These are criminals. We’re dealing with really hard criminals. But look, I’ve called the people.… pic.twitter.com/7316884uBM — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) February 4, 2026 Trump sent his border czar, Tom Homan, to Minneapolis last week to replace then-Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, who was known for his aggressive and showy approach to immigration raids. Bovino has since returned to his role as the Border Patrol chief of the El Centro sector in California. Homan took over the operation after the fatal shootings involving federal immigration agents of anti-ICE activists Renee Good and Alex Pretti. Homan has implemented a more targeted approach to enforcement by prioritizing the arrests of the worst criminals. While that’s the new focus in Minneapolis, the former ICE chief said during a press conference Wednesday that it doesn’t mean anyone whose sole crime is being in the country illegally is off the table. Homan also announced a “draw down” of 700 federal immigration authorities from the Twin Cities following the brokering of a deal between an “unprecedented” number of local jurisdictions to allow ICE into jails. “We currently have an unprecedented number of counties communicating with us now and allowing ICE to take custody of illegal aliens before they hit the streets, unprecedented cooperation. And I’ll say it again, this is efficient, it requires only one or two officers to assume custody of a criminal alien target rather than eight or ten officers going into the community and arresting that public safety threat,” Homan said. “More officers taking custody of criminal aliens directly from the jails, means less officers on the street doing criminal operations. This is smart law enforcement, not less law enforcement. This is safer for the community, safer for the officers, and safer for the alien,” he said. The “draw down,” he said, doesn’t mean the Trump administration is “surrendering” its mass deportation campaign.

Princess Kate and Prince William Officially Announce New Family Member

It seems rumors about the royal family welcoming a new member began swirling eons ago. We’ve waited for an official announcement, but they’ve kept things awfully quiet these last several months. According to People, Kate let the news spill during a visit to the Hiut Denim factory in Cardigan on February 3. It’s official, Kate and William got a new dog. No, it’s not a baby, but it’s just as exciting for the couple and their children, who positively adore animals. View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Prince and Princess of Wales (@princeandprincessofwales) Kate and William Have Always Been Dog Lovers Kate and William had a black cocker spaniel named Lupo, who died in 2020. Then Kate’s brother, James Middleton, gifted them another black cocker spaniel, which they named Orla. While visiting Hiut, Kate had a chance to talk about her love for cocker spaniels. “She had a rather long chat with my fiancée about our dog, about how she also has cocker spaniels and that hers is the same age as ours,” Hiut CEO Johann Von Loeper told People. “It was a nice moment that broke the ice.” As Kate fawned over the Loeper’s pup, Barney, she confirmed she and William have a new dog, too. “So we’ve got a little puppy, he’s only 8 months, and Orla’s 5,” she said. The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a sweet photo of Kate with Barney on Instagram. “What a welcome to @hiutdenim from Barney!” The couple’s caption reads. Royal enthusiasts loved seeing the photo. “Sweet Barney! Cocker Spaniel dogs are the sweetest and love to be loved on, and so very loyal! We had our little boy for14 years!!! What a love of a dog!!!” One person wrote. “Love this bold look. So happy to see her supporting manufacturing,” another shared. We can’t wait to meet Kate and William’s new dog. We’re sure it’s a pup fit for a king and queen to be. This story’s featured image is by Samir Hussein/WireImage.

Minnesota Sheriffs Credit Tom Homan With This Key Change

Increased “communication” between federal, state, and county law enforcement is the biggest change border czar Tom Homan has effectively created in Minnesota, according to the head of the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association.   “Mr. Homan made, I think, a significant step in good faith showing that, based on the sheriffs’ commitment for improved communication, they’re going to begin the drawdown,” James Stuart, executive director and CEO of the association, told The Daily Signal of the federal immigration enforcement presence in the state. Homan announced Wednesday that 700 federal immigration agents will be leaving Minnesota immediately due to “unprecedented cooperation” between federal, state, and local law enforcement.   While there has been “nothing signed saying this is what’s going to be happening” between federal immigration agents and county sheriffs, there is “an agreement that we are trying to improve communication,” Stuart said.   “Cooperation is a tricky word, but the first step is communication, and we have a really strong commitment from sheriffs across the state for that,” Stuart added.   The Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association was founded in 1885 and represents the state’s 87 sheriffs.   The Trump administration deployed about 3,000 federal immigration agents to Minnesota in January aimed at arresting criminal illegal aliens. Homan has said repeatedly that a reduction in force is dependent on state and local law enforcement adhering to Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers.   Minnesota is a sanctuary state, meaning state law limits the ability to which state and local law enforcement can cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. This includes detainers, which allow for the transfer of an illegal alien from state or local custody to federal custody within the confines of a prison or jail.   “We have a long-standing history of honoring ICE detainers to the extent allowed by [Minnesota] law,” Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud told The Daily Signal. Carver County has a population of over 100,000 and is located southwest of Minneapolis.   Minnesota law allows local law enforcement to notify ICE prior to an individual’s scheduled release, but it prohibits jails or prisons in the state from holding an illegal alien past their release date for apprehension by federal agents.   The agency is not asking state and local authorities to hold criminal illegal aliens “past their normal release time for immigration purposes,” Homan said during a press conference Wednesday.   Changes to Minnesota’s laws pertaining to ICE detailers are “a discussion point,” Stuart said, adding it is something that “ought to be considered.”   “Minnesota law enforcement has been caught wedged in the middle of so many of these political battles over the years, when, in fact, law enforcement should never be political, and it should always just be about public safety,” the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association CEO said.   Minnesota’s state prison system has been cooperating with federal immigration agents, notifying ICE when illegal aliens are going to be released so federal agents can detain them first, Homan explained Wednesday. He added that the sheriffs he has spoken with are also willing to cooperate, which Stuart confirmed.   “The vast majority of sheriffs either are communicating [immigration] information within the law or are willing to,” Stuart said.   The border czar arrived in Minneapolis about 10 days ago to take over the immigration enforcement operation in the Twin Cities at Trump’s request, after a Border Patrol agent shot and killed Alex Pretti, 37, on Jan. 24, and an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good, also 37, on Jan. 7.   “I’m actually amazed at the cooperation and agreements we already talked about and the willingness to work with us,” Homan said of state and local law enforcement. “We’re doing better than I ever thought we would.”   About 2,000 federal immigration officers will remain in Minneapolis for now as the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operation continues in the state.   The post Minnesota Sheriffs Credit Tom Homan With This Key Change appeared first on The Daily Signal.

There’s a Crisis Facing Young Men But There’s Also a Simple, Old-School Solution

Young men need to exercise “agency” in their own lives. A recent survey done on young men and their problems (and prospects) revealed that young men who participate in multiple social activities and groups are problem solvers. Alex Tarascio, a pollster at Cygnal, a political polling firm, explains that when these young men “talk about their biggest problems, the problems they identify are problems that they can change.” “If you say, ‘Paying my bills,’ that’s a hard problem, [but] that’s not a problem that you can change super easily. If your problem is romantic relationships, that problem is entirely on you.” We publish a variety of perspectives. Nothing written here is to be construed as representing the views of The Daily Signal.
