It’s scary to see what’s already happening in New York City under its new mayor, Zohran Mamdani. Before signing an executive order limiting immigration authorities’ ability to deport illegal aliens today, Mayor Mamdani encouraged Americans to look to Islam as an example on migration. Citing the Quran, Mamdani called for Americans to follow in the footsteps of the so-called “Prophet” Muhammad in welcoming “strangers” to our nation. Mamdani is now literally trying to push Islam on Americans, while using it to justify the need for more migrants in our nation. Rightfully so, Mamdani is being heavily criticized for calling on Americans to turn to Islam. International Business Times commented on the backlash Mamdani is receiving over this: New York City’s first Muslim mayor has stirred up a political storm after directly citing Prophet Muhammad’s story to justify tougher sanctuary city laws. Zohran Mamdani made the religious reference on Friday morning at an interfaith breakfast, just moments before signing an executive order that puts up fresh barriers between city agencies and federal immigration officers. Speaking to roughly 400 faith leaders gathered across the five boroughs, the 34-year-old mayor didn’t hold back. ‘I consider my own faith, Islam, a religion built upon a narrative of migration,’ Mamdani said. ‘The story of the Hijra reminds us that Prophet Muhammad was a stranger too, who fled Mecca and was welcomed in Medina.’ The Hijrah, which happened in 622 CE, remains one of Islam’s defining moments. It’s when Muhammad and his followers escaped persecution in Mecca and found safety in Medina, where locals took them in. That journey actually marks year one of the Islamic calendar. Mamdani went further than just telling the story. He quoted from the Quran itself, citing Sura An-Nahl 16:42: ‘As for those who emigrated in the cause of Allah after being persecuted, we will surely bless them with a good home in this world.’ He also referenced a hadith where the Prophet supposedly said: ‘Islam began as something strange and will go back to being strange, so glad tidings to the strangers.’ It’s unusual, to say the least, for an American mayor to ground municipal policy in specific religious teachings. Critics immediately pounced, warning that mixing Islamic theology with city law crosses a dangerous line. They argue it risks alienating huge chunks of New York’s diverse population and undermines the separation between faith and government. For some additional context, Mamdani delivered these remarks right before signing an executive order banning ICE agents from stepping foot on public property without a judicial warrant. A NYC press release has more details on the order: Executive Order 13 takes critical steps to keep not only immigrant New Yorkers but all New Yorkers safe from aggressive, unlawful, and xenophobic federal actions as well as deepen trust between New Yorkers and their city government. Executive Order 13 reaffirms that information collected by city agencies for city purposes must remain protected and cannot be shared with federal immigration authorities, except as required by law. Under the order, each agency has 14 days to appoint a privacy officer, conduct training, and certify compliance with sanctuary protections limiting information sharing. Executive Order 13 also makes clear that city property — including parking garages, parking lots, schools, shelters, hospitals, and other public spaces — is for city purposes only. Federal authorities may not enter city property without a judicial warrant. The order also directs core agencies to develop and distribute training for city employees on how to interact with federal immigration authorities. Moreover, Executive Order 13 requires agencies — including the NYPD, New York City Department of Correction (DOC), New York City Department of Probation (DOP), Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), and Department of Social Services (DSS) — to conduct comprehensive audits of all internal policies governing interactions with federal immigration authorities, update protocols and guidance as needed, and provide public transparency into any new policies that are created as a result. Finally, Executive Order 13 establishes an Interagency Response Committee to coordinate crisis policy across city agencies and ensure a whole-of-government response. We tried to warn you, New York! Luigi Mangioni is back in court. On Friday, Luigi Mangioni, the accused killer of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, made an appearance at a New York Court where he apparently lost his cool. At the end of the proceedings, the accused killer made a loud outburst regarding the circumstances of his trial. Fox News provided more in-depth details on Mangione’s latest court appearance and what he said in his outburst: Luigi Mangione complained about double jeopardy in a courtroom outburst on Friday about the prospect of back-to-back trials in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. As he was escorted out of a New York courtroom, he was heard saying, “It’s the same trial twice. One plus one is two. Double jeopardy by any common sense.” Prior to his outburst, Mangione was quietly sitting at the defense table throughout the proceedings. His attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, also complained on Friday that double jeopardy was being used as a “weapon” against her client. The comment came after a brief hearing regarding the scheduling of his state and federal trials in the shooting death of Thompson. Following a lengthy discussion with prosecutors and defense lawyers, Judge Gregory Carro said the state trial would be on June 8, but could be moved to Sept. 8 if an appeal delays the federal trial. Agnifilo protested, saying her client was being put in an “untenable” situation and that the defense would not be ready on June 8. “Mr. Mangione is being put in an untenable situation,” Agnifilo said. “This is a tug-of-war between two different prosecution offices.” The incident was not recorded on video because video recording is prohibited during his trial. Jury selection for Mangione’s federal case is scheduled to begin Sept. 8, with opening statements set for Oct. 13, unless an appeal delays the timeline. In state court, Mangione has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, weapons and forgery charges, which carry a sentence of 25 years to life. His federal counts allow for life in prison without parole.

Hollywood’s filfth is starting to be cleaned up. Actor Timothy Busfield, who starred in the hit show The West Wing, has been indicted by a New Mexico Grand Jury. In the indictment, the now disgraced actor was charged with four counts of sexual contact with a child. Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced the indictment Friday in a social media post. Authorities had issued an arrest warrant for Busfield over allegations of misconduct from when he was working as a director on the set of the TV series “The Cleaning Lady.” Busfield has denied the allegations. He turned himself in to authorities and later was released from jail. Busfield is best known for appearances in “The West Wing,” “Field of Dreams” and “Thirtysomething.” Larry Stein, an attorney for Busfield, did not comment on the sexual contact charge in the indictment but said the grand jury declined to endorse grooming charges sought by prosecutors. Democrats on Friday morning took no time at all to take a video posted by President Trump out of context. As WLT reported earlier, President Trump received backlash from Democrats after posting a video on Truth Social that featured Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. The video was quickly deemed as racist by liberal and even some conservatives. The video section featuring the Obamas as apes was at the end of the video and lasted only about 2 seconds, whereas the majority of the video discussed voting machine flaws in the 2020 general election.
