The man who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump used an alias to make “firearms-related purchases” and started taking firearms classes almost a year before he opened fire at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally, law enforcement sources told The New York Post. The Post reported that beginning last spring, the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, made over 25 purchases from online gun stores using a fake name, according to the sources. Along with the firearms-related purchases, the would-be assassin bought six “chemical precursors” that authorities said he used to make explosive devices which were found in his car and at his home. It remains unknown if the shooter purchased any firearms through a fake name or if he only purchased ammunition or accessories. The ongoing investigation into the assassination attempt has also revealed that Crooks was “highly intelligent,” and around September of 2023, he started taking firearms classes. The shooter practiced at a local shooting range with his father’s DPMS DR-15 a day before firing shots at the former president with the same weapon, the Post reported. Trump was hit by one of the shooter’s bullets after the would-be assassin climbed onto the roof of the American Glass Research building and fired off eight shots from a position less than 150 yards away from the rally stage before he was killed by a Secret Service sniper. Three rally-goers were also struck by the spray bullets, and firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed in the shooting. Text messages between members of the Beaver County SWAT team revealed that a sniper spotted the shooter more than 90 minutes before he fired at Trump, ABC News reported on Monday. The sniper texted the other SWAT members that he saw the shooter “sitting to the direct right on a picnic table about 50 yards from the exit.” Then, an hour before the shooting, sniper team member Gregory Nicol said he saw the shooter take a rangefinder out of his pocket. Nicol took a picture of the shooter and warned his team members of a suspicious man at the rally. “He was looking up and down the building. It just seemed out of place,” Nicol told “Good Morning America.” The local SWAT team was supposed to meet with the Secret Service before Trump’s rally, but that meeting never happened, according to sniper team leader Jason Woods. “That was probably a pivotal point, where I started thinking things were wrong because (the meeting) never happened,” Woods said. “We had no communication … not until after the shooting.”

The Biden-Harris administration proposed a new rule that would allow illegal immigrants to access taxpayer-funded college preparatory programs that were meant to assist low-income American citizens. The new proposed rule from the Biden-Harris Department of Education would allow illegal immigrants who qualify for the Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) to access federal TRIO programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. “The proposed changes would expand eligibility to include students without immigration status,” the proposed rule from the Biden-Harris administration states. Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) blasted the proposed rule from the Democratic administration, noting that it would allow illegal immigrants to take the spots of American citizens. “The Biden-Harris administration’s proposal would take college preparatory aid away from American citizens and give it to illegal aliens,” Banks stated. “Instead of waiting until 2025 for this America Last policy to be reversed, House Republicans should pass my bill to protect working American families’ access to college aid,” he also went on to say, referencing his piece of legislation called the American Students First Act that would prevent the taxpayer-funded program from being used by illegal immigrants. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), who serves as the Chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, also criticized the proposed rule, contending that the Biden-Harris administration would be “siphoning resources away from low-income American citizens.” “There’s a laundry list of problems facing students and postsecondary education today: Costs are soaring, the FAFSA rollout has been butchered, anti-semitism is running rampant across college campuses, just to name a few,” Foxx stated. “But what is the Biden administration focused on? Siphoning resources away from low-income American citizens by stretching college-prep programs thin to cover illegal immigrants.” The attempt to divert taxpayer funds to illegal immigrants comes as the Biden-Harris administration has presided over the largest surge in illegal immigration in American history.  More than 10 million people have unlawfully crossed the border during the administration, with an estimated 1.7 million illegal immigrant gotaways recorded since January 2021. Public opinion survey has found that an increasing share of Americans are in favor of slashing immigration and ramping up mass deportations, while illegal immigration has become one of the most important issues for voters as we near the November election.

While America’s attention has been focused on the presidential election, one of the greatest challenges facing the nation has continued to worsen. On Friday, the gross federal debt hit $35 trillion. For perspective, that amounts to about $267,000 for every household in the country. Unfortunately, not only has the debt soared to such an incredibly large number, but it will continue to climb by trillions of dollars per year unless officials in Washington finally take their jobs seriously. Decades of short-term thinking and political opportunism from both parties has caused the federal budget to go completely out of whack. During fiscal year 2023, ending Sept. 30, 2023, the federal government raked in more than $4.4 trillion in revenue—or more than $13,500 for every man, woman, and child in the country. That was more than enough to fund core governmental functions. However, unending bureaucratic bloat and out-of-control entitlement programs led to $6.1 trillion in spending—more than $18,000 per person. Despite the $4.4 trillion tax haul in 2023, the Left thinks the main budget problem is Washington not shaking Americans down hard enough. The narrative pushed by the likes of Vice President Kamala Harris is that tax rates on individuals and businesses should go up because those at the top supposedly aren’t paying their “fair share.” That’s malarkey. In calendar year 2021, the most recent year for which there is complete data, the top 1% of households paid 46% of income taxes. In contrast, the bottom 95% of households paid a combined 31% of income taxes. Contrary to claims from the Left, America’s federal tax system is far more progressive than most other developed nations. What separates the U.S. and Europe is the punishingly high taxes that European states impose on lower- and middle-class families. Rather than throwing more hard-earned money into the gaping maw of the federal behemoth, policymakers should focus on reducing spending. Top targets for cuts and reforms should include: Eliminating expensive and ineffective “green” subsidies passed by Democrats in 2022. Ending loopholes that plow enormous amounts of public resources to health care providers without benefiting patients. Reining in the increasingly radical institutions of academia and federal science agencies. Stopping handouts to state and local governments and corporations. The $35 trillion national debt is a grim milestone, but there’s still time to avoid the greatest bankruptcy in human history if the nation’s leaders are willing to stand up to special interests. Yellen said that in order to achieve the goal of net-zero global carbon emissions, there would need to be $3 trillion globally in annual financing for the cause, which she said is a top priority for the Biden administration, according to the speech. In order to contribute to this, Yellen vowed to finance green initiatives in developing countries through multilateral development banks and develop “clean energy technologies.” “The transition will require no less than $3 trillion in new capital from many sources each year between now and 2050,” Yellen said during the speech. “This can be leveraged to support pathways to sustainable and inclusive growth, including for countries that have historically received less investment.” “Neglecting to address climate change and the loss of nature and biodiversity is not just bad environmental policy,” Yellen said during the speech. “It is bad economic policy.” Yellen boasted in her speech about the commitments the Biden administration has put forth toward forwarding these green initiatives to achieve their “climate goals.” “At home, we are implementing the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate legislation in our nation’s history,” Yellen said during the speech. “It is driving hundreds of billions of dollars of investments in the clean energy technologies and industries that will propel us toward our climate goals and fuel our economic growth.” The Inflation Reduction Act allocated $370 billion to subsidize climate initiatives like electric vehicles and other technologies that are essential to President Joe Biden’s green agenda. “Climate change is literally an existential threat to our nation and to the world,” Biden said during a speech addressing climate change in July of 2022. “As president, I’ll use my executive powers to combat climate—the climate crisis in the absence of congressional actions, notwithstanding their incredible action.” During her speech, Yellen advocated for these climate initiatives to be implemented “beyond our borders.” “Our ambitions at home are matched by our ambitions abroad,” Yellen said during the speech. “We know that we can only achieve our climate and economic goals—from reducing global emissions to adapting and building resilience, from strengthening markets to bolstering supply chains—if we also lead efforts far beyond our borders.” The Treasury Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
