The Houston Police Department confirmed Monday that the woman who opened fire at Lakewood Church in Houston had a documented “mental health history” and her son was the child injured in the shooting. Authorities also obtained “anti-Semitic writing” during their investigation into the shooting. On Sunday afternoon‚ 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno* walked into Lakewood Church in Houston with a long gun and a young child and opened fire before being shot dead by law enforcement at the scene. During a press conference Monday afternoon‚ Houston PD Commander Chris Hassig said that Moreno “was put under an emergency detention order” in 2016 and “has a mental health history that is documented through us and through interviews with family members.” The commander added that authorities recovered “anti-Semitic writing” and they believe there was “a familial dispute that has taken place between her ex-husband and her ex-husband’s family.” Houston PD Chief Troy Finner said Moreno was the biological mother of a 7-year-old child who was shot during an exchange of gunfire between Moreno and two off-duty law enforcement officers. Finner added that the child is “fighting for his life” in critical condition‚ and a 57-year-old man who was also shot has since been released from the hospital. Moreno‚ a woman‚ previously identified as Jeffrey Escalante‚ according to Texas Department of Public Safety records. One of the most prominent cases occurred last year when a woman who identified as a man entered a Christian school in Nashville and murdered three children and three adults before she was killed by responding police officers. *Reports on mass shootings typically do not name the shooter under Daily Wire policy‚ but in this case‚ the shooter’s name is a vital part of law enforcement records and thus necessary to the clear reporting of this story. 

Until recently‚ it was hard to think of a post-George Floyd innovation that failed more quickly‚ or more spectacularly‚ than the “defund the police” movement. As homicide rates ballooned by more than 30%‚ cities like Los Angeles‚ Baltimore‚ Philadelphia‚ Minneapolis‚ New York‚ Austin‚ and Oakland reinstated funds for police departments. They had all made a big show of cutting police funding‚ only to realize that in fact‚ police actually serve a purpose. And then there were the stories of various politicians‚ including congressmen‚ who called for defunding the police — only to demand police protection when they needed it. So‚ the whole idea of defunding the police was a BLM-inspired debacle that seemed hard to top. But now there’s a contender‚ as hard as that might be to imagine. It was less than a year ago that a so-called “reparations task force” in California announced a plan to pay $1.2 million to every descendant of a slave‚ or of a “free Black person living in the United States prior to the end of the 19th century.” In all‚ that proposal would cost something like $800 billion to implement‚ which is more than double California’s entire state budget. But nevertheless‚ there was optimism that this would actually happen. After all‚ this task force had spent around two years crafting this proposal‚ so they were pretty confident they could see it through. Watch: So they say they’re not taking the money from taxpayers and redistributing it. They claim instead that they’re “returning” stolen money‚ even though the taxpayers didn’t take it in the first place. Imagine applying this logic to all of the Europeans who were sold as slaves in North Africa‚ or all of the white people who are killed by black people every year in the United States — which is a very disproportionate number. Are all of the descendants of these white victims entitled to reparations from all black people‚ as well? At the same time‚ it’s very clear that they’re going to fail. The reparations grift is indeed collapsing. Even if the reparations bill fails‚ public institutions will find ways to take your money to spread anti-white race hate. But you can tell from the response to this footage — which went viral immediately — that people are fed up with this propaganda. But ensuring that this country falls apart is precisely the goal of the largest news outlets in the United States. And then at the end‚ she implies that somehow this will lead to unity. We will be unified by having separate anthems. Even though the whole point of singing the anthem — the one national anthem — is to show our unity. But the point of this revival of “the black national anthem” is to take us back to the pre-civil rights era. This is not progress; it’s regression. That’s what this is a deliberate callback to. It’s when the NAACP first started pushing the song‚ after an NAACP official wrote it. For the past three years‚ the NFL has been trying to equate this with the actual national anthem. The implication is that we’re back where we were in the early 1900s. It’s like when Joe Biden says it’s “Jim Crow on steroids” to require voter ID. They are desperate to convince us that we’re living in a white supremacist hellscape‚ which is nonsense. But again‚ it’s falling flat. Andra Day performed this “black national anthem” before the commercial break‚ before the teams came out‚ and several minutes before the national anthem. And‚ to the extent that people responded to it at all‚ it was panned on social media. No one thought it was inspirational or unifying or whatever. This is the response all of the post-BLM‚ post-George Floyd ideas are receiving now‚ from defunding the police‚ or implementing reparations.  What this means for race hustlers like Henry Rogers is that they’re going to have to find new jobs soon. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) scolded Israel — specifically Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — after Israeli forces launched a coordinated strike on Sunday to free two hostages. A pair of Senate Republicans want Department of Justice (DOJ) leaders to explain what they said appears to be a “significant factual omission” in special counsel Robert Hur’s report on President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents‚ according to a letter unveiled on Monday. Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland‚ FBI Director Christopher Wray‚ and Hur seeking details about nine boxes of materials that were allegedly retrieved from the Boston office of a personal attorney to Biden that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) previously said the FBI had reviewed nearly one year ago. [W]e publicly revealed last year that NARA had retrieved nine boxes of Biden records from the Boston office of Patrick Moore‚ one of Biden’s personal counsels‚” the senators said. “Oddly‚ Special Counsel Hur’s report did not mention NARA’s retrieval of the nine boxes from Mr. Moore’s office … [I]t is unclear if Special Counsel Hur had any awareness of or reviewed the information contained in these nine boxes.” The letter was dated Friday‚ one day after the release of Hur’s report that criticized Biden’s handling of classified documents while out of office. Although Hur did not recommend charges‚ the 388-page report said Biden exhibited memory problems that likely would preclude a jury from convicting the president. Hur’s report briefly mentioned how Moore’s office became a “repository” for “Biden’s political materials‚ such as awards and of speeches‚” but‚ as the senators noted‚ does not appear to address the nine boxes in question. Grassley and Johnson have been in contact with NARA‚ which notified them in March of last year that its staff had fetched the nine boxes from the Boston office at the request of the Justice Department in November of 2022 as part of the investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. NARA also divulged the FBI reviewed the contents of the boxes as of March 2023 and said in September that NARA officials had not examined the materials but “will conduct an appropriate review” for sought-after records that contained any pseudonyms or personal email addresses used for official government business. “DOJ‚ FBI‚ and the Special Counsel’s office owe Congress and the American people a complete explanation regarding this apparent omission in Special Counsel Hur’s report‚ a detailed description of the contents of the nine boxes‚ and what was done with them‚” Grassley and Johnson wrote. The senators posed a number of questions seeking information about the materials and they requested a response by February 23. The Daily Wire reached out to the DOJ and FBI seeking comment.

In an attempt to buy Muslim support in the swing state of Michigan‚ President Biden reportedly told Israeli Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday that Israel should not go ahead with a military operation in the Gaza border town of Rafah without a credible plan to protect civilians. In fact‚ I met with an Israeli soldier last Friday whose buddy was gunned down right in front of him as he was going into an apartment complex in Gaza last week. The reason the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is even on the ground there is to preserve civilian life while they try to save Israeli hostages held by Hamas. WATCH: The Ben Shapiro Show Meanwhile‚ Biden apparently told Israel not to go into Rafah‚ which is the only major stronghold Hamas has left; they have four battalions in Rafah that Israel needs to finish off. This would be like Biden saying to the American military during World War II‚ “Guys‚ once you get around Berlin‚ stop.” Every Hamas official is now in Rafah. Everyone knows this and the additional fact that the hostages are in Rafah. Miraculously‚ Israel rescued two hostages alive in Gaza on Sunday night. It is an amazing‚ miraculous story. There are roughly 100 hostages currently held by Hamas. We don’t know how many are dead. Nobody knows how many are dead. But Israel actually rescued two hostages alive in Rafah while the Biden administration was telling them not to go in. I have spoken to people who are serving in Gaza right now and attest that the embedding is insane. The line between civilians and the military in Gaza is incredibly thin. Huge percentages of civilian households in Gaza contain weaponry. Huge percentages are hiding terror tunnels. Over the weekend‚ the Wall Street Journal reported‚ saying‚ “Hidden deep below the headquarters of the United Nations’ aid agency for Palestinians here is a Hamas complex with rows of computer servers that Israel’s armed forces say served as an important communications center and intelligence hub” for Hamas. The compound is directly below the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) buildings in Gaza City‚ and they’re running on electricity drawn from the U.N. So whenever people talk about the vaunted U.N.‚ remember‚ the UNRWA is Hamas. They’re indistinguishable in the Gaza Strip. But Biden is trying to tell the Israelis not to go in and rescue their own people.
