“Surprise and Shock” in the Morning News for Thursday May 29

Surprise and Shock over January 6 “People have had questions about January 6th and whether or not there were FBI sources – not agents, sources – on the ground during January 6. And I told you I would get you the definitive answer to that. And we have, and we are in the process again […] The post “Surprise and Shock” in the Morning News for Thursday May 29 appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Morning Brief: Nashville Mayor Under Fire & Europe’s War On Free Speech

Blue cities are obstructing ICE and sheltering illegal immigrants, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) announces a federal probe into Nashville’s Democrat mayor, and the upcoming EU-U.S. Forum aims to address Europe’s free speech crackdown. Plus, the Government Accountability Office faces GOP backlash, and Elon Musk steps back from DOGE. It’s Thursday, May 29, and this is the news you need to know to start your day. Morning Wire is available on video! You can watch today’s episode here: If you’d rather listen to your news, today’s edition of the Morning Wire podcast can be heard below: Sanctuary Vs Safety Topline: As Illegal immigrant gangs grow across the United States, several blue city leaders are standing in the way of ICE. Trump border czar Tom Homan has been leading ICE raids in cities across the country targeting criminal illegals. But some so-called “sanctuary” city officials are working to hinder the crackdown. Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN), who sits on the Homeland Security Committee, announced this week that he’s launched an investigation into the office of Nashville Democratic Mayor Freddie O’Connell amid claims that city officials are actively obstructing ICE. Mayor O’Connell issued an executive order requiring civil servants in Nashville to report communications with federal immigration officials to the mayor’s office and has condemned ICE raids for causing “deep community harm.” “MS-13 and Tren de Aragua, they’re all over the country,” Ogles told The Daily Wire. “They’re in Nashville. They’re in our small cities like Columbia and Tullahoma … this is a message to cities and mayors across the country. If you impede federal law enforcement in their duties, in their directive to follow President Trump, to say, it’s time that we start deporting these folks, we’re going to be looking into your city, and where appropriate, we’re going to hold you accountable.” Ogles also noted that Nashville is a “through city” that is centrally located (within a 6-hour drive of many of America’s major population centers) and could be used as a waystation for human trafficking and the drug trade if the cartels are allowed to establish a foothold. “The violent gangs in Central and South America, they want strongholds in Nashville. And I’m not going to stand for it.” Get 40% Off New DailyWire+ Annual Memberships Free Speech Under Siege Topline: As Europe cracks down on free speech, the Trump administration ramps up pressure on European leaders. The EU-U.S. Forum is taking place this week in Hungary – the goal of the summit is to challenge the leftist ideas put forward by the European Union and unite Western leaders to fight back against the EU’s harmful policies. A major focus of the summit will be “Europe’s Free Speech Problem.” This week, a number of senior State Department officials are heading to Ireland and Paris to push both countries to respect the speech rights of their citizens. A senior State Department official told The Daily Wire that the trip is part of the department’s effort to fight back against violations of basic natural rights in Europe, especially freedom of speech, religion, and the right to privacy. “What happens in one country will impact the U.S.,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told The Daily Wire. “Ultimately, when they start putting restrictions on their free speech, then other outlets, whether it be a social media platform, whether it be technology platforms such as Apple or Google or things of that nature, when free speech is suppressed, then ultimately what’s gonna happen is so many of those same policies will be put in place in the United States.” GAO Undermines MAGA Topline: Republicans have grown frustrated with the independent agency known as the “Congressional watchdog.” They say the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has too often let politics dictate its findings rather than the facts. According to its website, the GAO is an independent, non-partisan agency that works for Congress. It typically looks at how federal funds are spent and how executive agencies implement certain policies, and it makes reports to inform lawmakers. Recently, Republicans say that the GAO has been infected by politics. This lack of trust comes as the GAO has conducted probes into dozens of Trump administration spending freezes. Last week, the GAO said that the Department of Transportation violated the Impoundment Control Act to freeze a Biden-era electric vehicle charging program. That earned a rebuke from Russell Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget. He wrote on X that the GAO is “going to call everything an impoundment because they want to grind our work to manage taxpayer dollars effectively to a halt.” Congressional Republicans are also unhappy with the GAO. Last week, Congress voted to strip a Clean Air Act waiver from California, which would have authorized the state to effectively ban new gas-powered vehicles by 2035. Before the vote, the GAO said that Congress couldn’t use the Congressional Review Act to pull the waiver – that set Republicans in the Senate off. “For the first time ever, the Government Accountability Office has decided to insert itself into the process and affirmatively declare that an agency rule submitted to Congress as a rule is not a rule,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said. “It’s an extraordinary deviation from precedent for an agency that should be defending Congress’ power instead of constraining it.” Meanwhile, Elon Musk thanked President Trump on Wednesday as his official government role in the administration comes to an end. It’s been a rough ride for the world’s wealthiest man, from the attacks on his companies to the frustrations of government bureaucracy. This week, Musk seemed somewhat bitter about the political process, especially surrounding the passage of the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote on social media. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

‘I Would Like To Thank President Trump’: Musk Says Farewell To DOGE

On Wednesday night, Elon Musk made it clear that the reason he was leaving his role leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project was due to a rule limiting special government employees to 130 days of service rather than any rumored feud with President Donald Trump. This week, Musk publicly criticized the tax and spending package championed by Trump, saying, “I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.” Musk’s departure from government work coincides with his recent remarks indicating he would focus more on his business ventures. “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.” As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 29, 2025 Musk’s DOGE claims it has saved American taxpayers $175 billion through a “combination of asset sales, contract/lease cancellations and renegotiations, fraud and improper payment deletion, grant cancellations, interest savings, programmatic changes, regulatory savings, and workforce reductions.” Get 40% Off New DailyWire+ Annual Memberships Earlier this week, in an interview published in Ars Technica, Musk stated, “I think I probably did spend a bit too much time on politics, it’s less than people would think, because the media is going to over-represent any political stuff, because political bones of contention get a lot of traction in the media. It’s not like I left the companies. It was just relative time allocation that probably was a little too high on the government side, and I’ve reduced that significantly in recent weeks.” Musk had a significant impact on the 2024 election. After buying Twitter, he opened it far more to Right-wing views. As the SAIS Review of International Affairs noted, “ According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, over half of U.S. adults (54%) consume news from social media … X stood out for having the most balanced political affiliation distribution, with 48% of its users leaning Republican and 47% Democratic. Moreover, when it comes to politics X stands out with 59% of X users[10] following politics or political issues on the platform.” Additionally, Musk was the largest individual donor to the Trump campaign, contributing more than $250 million through a political action committee and endorsing Trump after an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.

Drone Footage Captures Stunning View Of Giant Manta Ray Gliding Beneath Paddleboard

People either seem to love drone cameras or hate them. There is no argument that the tiny flying machines capture some incredible scenes. Drone operator John Yanchoris recorded over the open ocean near Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin, Florida. Below his drone swam a large manta ray and a lone man on a blue and white paddleboard. @johnyanchoris1969 ♬ Adventurer – Lux-Inspira The breathtaking video shows a manta ray hovering near the water’s surface as a paddleboard enters the frame. In one swift motion, the manta ray dives to swim under the paddleboard. Water splashes the man on the paddleboard, and you can see him lean over to watch this magnificent animal. The manta ray zigs back to cross in front of the paddleboard, still visible under the clear water. The clarity of the video shows the paddleboarder’s amazement as he follows the ray’s movement. No matter what your feelings on drone cameras might be, you should take a look at the videos on John Yanchoris’s Sky Drones TikTok page. He has captured amazing footage, including sea life swimming in the open ocean and incredible sunrises. @johnyanchoris1969 ♬ original sound – Sky drones John yanchoris John has captured manta rays, sharks, manatees, and hundreds of fish. Although none of the footage of rays shows the meeting of two worlds like the one with the man on the paddleboard, they display these animals in their natural habitat. Many of John’s videos have been featured on local news channels to highlight the area’s abundant wildlife and beautiful scenery. To see more content from John, follow his Sky Drones pages on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Unlike many social media posters, John doesn’t cross-post all his videos, so each page has different content. His content is original, refreshing, and absolutely stunning. Please share. “My Dramatic One-Year-Old Daughter Telling On Me To Our Dog Because I Told Her ‘No'”

Ashley Auten has five children. Her youngest, at one, is already a budding drama queen. The dramatic baby is best friends with the dog. It’s a sure bet that when Mom does something totally rotten, like saying “No,” the child heads to her bestie to complain. The dog offers little sympathy, but she is locked in doggy jail, after all. @sweet_mamax5 blakely, GIRLLL bffr#greenscreenvideo #babiesoftiktok #mom #kidsoftiktok #drama #daughter #trending #foryoupage ♬ original sound – ashley auten Dogs have different reactions to crying children. This golden retriever shows disdain by offering a side-eye to a crying infant. This beagle wants no part of that new hairless puppy and whines whenever the baby cries. But for Blakely, her dog is her best friend. When her Mom hurt the dramatic baby’s feelings by saying, “No,” the child went right to her bestie to pour her little heart out. When Blakely mumbles, “Mommy is mean,” you can almost see the dog thinking, “I know. She’s got me serving hard time in doggy jail.” Even with the incomprehensible babble from the dramatic baby, you sense that the dog is listening and sympathizing with her. Even though it seems like Mom might be treating Blakely harshly by saying “No,” it is pretty clear who runs the household. In a separate video, as Dad looks on, the baby is busy playing with her bestie. Fans have requested more “Blakely Shenanigans.” Ashley is too happy to provide her fans with more Blakely smiles. The background music in this next clip has some language, but Blakely is manhandling her older brother like a champ. @sweet_mamax5 y’all wanted more Blakely shenanigans, y’all got it#greenscreenvideo #babiesoftiktok #blakely #feral #foryoupage #fyp #trending #crazy ♬ Bad Bih 4 Ya – GloRilla Despite the big emotions in the first video, Blakely is a happy child. Book Review: The SHTF Series by LL Akers

Looking for prepper fiction? It’s my favorite genre but man…not all of it is my cup of tea. Luckily for me, I found LL Akers’ SHTF series. I read Fight Like a Man, the first book in the series, on an overseas flight and I didn’t get a wink of sleep – I was engaged by page one. Here’s the synopsis from Amazon. As a prepper, Grayson Rowan was prepared for almost anything; anything other than being totally alone when the sh*t hits the fan. While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out, that he and his family would be ready and safe–whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead. What he wasn’t prepared for, was his family not being home if it ever happened. Olivia Rowan is with her sisters, Gabby and Emma, on a girls-only trip to Myrtle Beach. When chaos erupts and there’s no gas, their journey home is a nightmare, filled with predators and danger–and apparently, Olivia hadn’t learned a thing her husband tried to teach her. When your neighbors run out of water and turn on each other, what will you do? Jake, a country boy mechanic, never believed in TEOTWAWKI, but he’d heard his brother-in-law preach about it many times. He knew what to do; but he didn’t prepare. He lazily left it all up to Grayson–he was the prepper after all. When catastrophe strikes, will he continue to keep his head stuck in the sand while his clueless neighbors destroy each other, and his wife is stuck out on the road; or will he stand up and fight like a man? And if you’re alone? Bug in or Bug out? Graysie Rowan, a freshman at University, just wants to go home. When no word comes from the government, and the state capital is overrun with looters, chaos and mayhem, the college administration puts the students on lock-down. But her dad, Grayson, had prepared her for this. Now, if she can only remember what it was he said to do… If they want to survive this post-apocalyptic event, they’ll all have to learn to fight like a man. The end came not with boots on the ground, nuclear weapons or an EMP. It snuck in with a quiet clatter at the back door and flipped the switch, covering the states in darkness and sending this family on three divergent paths that ultimately lead home. When they collide in this surreal and gripping family drama, it won’t be without bullets and bloodshed. (source) Here’s what I thought of the book. The characters are realistic As the characters were introduced in the book, I found myself nodding in recognition. We all know a Grayson, a Gabby, and an Olivia, not to mention the other members of the cast. Nobody is so noble it makes you sick, and everyone makes errors in judgment – as would we all in a highly charged situation. The dialogue, thank goodness, is realistic too. My pet peeve in disaster fiction is when the whole world is falling down around the characters and they say, “Oh my goodness” or “gosh” or “darn, I forgot that lifesaving thing at the last campsite, how silly of me.” If we’re honest, I think we can all admit that an occasional swear word will be dropped when the SHTF, right? So if we want the rest of our dystopian fiction to be realistic, it’s kind of silly to have the hardened Marine say, “gee willikers.” All this being said, the book is definitely not loaded with profanity – but there is an occasional swear word where it’s appropriate. This is a book that will appeal to both men and women readers. There is plenty of tactical stuff and male protagonists who are focused on homestead security. At the same time, there’s a simultaneous story about women making their way home after an epic disaster, for a change. You won’t find women in need of rescue here. First, oh how I love books in which the women are not damsels in distress. Most of the women in this book were incredibly smart, brave, and skilled. These ladies didn’t wait around to be rescued. As would anyone who is prepared for difficult times, when things went wrong, they got things done. These women 100% were not victims. The book was very realistic about what can happen to women alone in a situation without rule of law. Their skills and their savviness play a starring role in the plot. Not every character is perfect. In some fictional worlds, every member of the family or core group is, well, perfect. Everyone is on board, they all “get it” and they are all serious about preparedness. But in real life, there’s always at least one family member who thinks you’re off your rocker. Raise your hand if you have a family member who loves you but thinks maybe you’re just a wee bit paranoid. Well, thank goodness for LL Akers, who shares the good, bad, and ugly about groups. There’s a character I wanted to smack more than once despite that character’s redeeming qualities. And that is real. Prepper skills are worked into the story I love it when stories have some prepper information and I learned two things in particular from Fight Like a Man (no spoilers.) The author definitely knows her stuff and is the person you’d want to be making your way home with after an EMP. At the same time, the information is worked into the plot in a way that isn’t preachy. It’s not “Survival Lesson Number One: do this thing when this happens.”  It’s just what the characters do in order to collect resources. It touches on taboo topics Without being graphic, the book touches on taboo topics – and they are truly essential. Things like rape and drug addiction and mental health issues are rarely included in the plot of prepper novels – and especially not all of these things. But, if it really hit the fan, every one of us would be dealing with these problems. Maybe not in our own families, but for sure we would be exposed to victims of these things in some way unless we are someplace so secluded that we no longer have human contact outside the members of our household. I recommend it. The only problem is that it was over before my flight and I couldn’t add one to my Kindle from the plane. I grabbed the other two books in the series the moment I had WiFi and they’re just as awesome. Grab this book – I think you’ll enjoy it! The series consists of: Fight Like a Man Shoot Like a Girl Run Like the Wind Wait Like a Stone What about you? Have you read this series? Did you enjoy it as much as I did? I’d love to know what you think about it, too! The post Book Review: The SHTF Series by LL Akers appeared first on The Organic Prepper.

Who’s running to lead House Democrats on Oversight, and what does it mean?

Who’s running to lead House Democrats on Oversight, and what does it mean?

Once again, House Democrats are jockeying for the top minority spot on the House Oversight Committee. Just seven months ago, party veteran Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) beat out progressive media darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for the job. Connolly died on May 21. Now four Democrats are scrambling to lock down committee support before the June 24 leadership vote. This race matters. For a party in the minority, oversight provides one of the few remaining tools to challenge the majority and to manage the frustration of disillusioned voters. We covered the last contest in December, just as Donald Trump prepared to reclaim the White House. Connolly’s win, despite his age and battle with esophageal cancer, signaled a possible turn away from performative social media theatrics toward more traditional, procedural oversight. While Stephen Lynch is out of step with the activist class, his voting record demonstrates party loyalty. Expect him to be a serious contender.Connolly’s death reopens the field. So what do the current contenders — and their backers — tell us about where the Democrats stands now?Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.): Lynch grew up in South Boston, the son of an ironworker. His politics and worldview reflect that gritty upbringing. At the time, “Southie” held the dubious distinction of being the poorest white neighborhood in America — plagued by crime, targeted by outsider liberal policies, and ignored by the nonprofit class that preferred more fashionable causes. He followed his father into ironworking and quickly climbed the ranks, becoming the youngest union president in its history before pivoting to law school. His early record wasn’t spotless. He admitted to smoking pot at a Willie Nelson concert and once roughed up Iranian students protesting the United States. As a lawyer, he defended kids charged in racially charged street brawls — cases that mirrored the tensions he grew up with.Lynch entered state politics to push back against outside pressure — most notably from gay activists demanding to march in South Boston’s kid-friendly, Catholic-rooted St. Patrick’s Day parade. He championed exemptions to Massachusetts hate-crime laws and brought his blue-collar populism with him to Washington. When he entered Congress in the 1990s, Lynch stood firmly pro-life and pro-marriage.Like many of his fellow Democrats, however, Lynch moved with the party and his district. Southie is developed these days: cleaned up and expensive as heck. You’ll see yuppies and rainbow flags now, and industry has been replaced with waterfront condos. Like so many of his once-Blue Dog, working-class colleagues, he’s now pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, and pro-all-the-rest-of-it. He voted 100% with President Joe Biden’s agenda.Even his perfect voting record isn’t enough for the purists, however. His opponents within the party are annoyed that he doesn’t mouth all their maxims and revolutionary slogans. They see him as a relic of the past and cite his vote against Obamacare and his opposition to the decidedly anti-working-class Green New Deal, as well as his yea vote for the Laken Riley Act that would detain and deport illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes in the United States. While Lynch is out of step with the activist class, his voting record demonstrates party loyalty. Moreover, he's the acting ranking member now that Connolly has passed. Ocasio-Cortez cited the committee Democrats’ continued deference to seniority in her reason not to run for the job again. Expect Lynch to be a serious contender.Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.): Mfume was born Frizzell Gerard Tate in Baltimore in 1948. While not the acting ranking member of the committee, he is a senior member of the party, having first won a seat in Congress when Ronald Reagan was president. He has a place of prestige within the Congressional Black Caucus and even served as its chairman in the early 1990s — a relationship that will be tested in his run against another member in the Oversight fight. He took a break from Congress in the mid-1990s to serve as president of the NAACP — another prominent post in the black American political power structure. As with Lynch, progressive activists question Mfume’s purity, even though he voted with Biden 100% of the time. His sins include thinking the Green New Deal, decriminalizing illegal border crossing, and Medicaid for All were dumb ideas. He’s also pro-Israel, which is a big no-no. Finally, while he's perfectly pro-abortion, he doesn’t talk about it enough. Very troubling! His opponents within the party call him a “Washington insider,” and they’re right — but past attempts to primary him from the left have failed.Like Lynch, Mfume is a contender, but is threatened by a younger, angrier, more social media-friendly competitor.Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas): The youngest contender for the post is Crockett, who just came to Congress two years ago but has already made a name for herself nationally.Though well into her 40s, Crockett’s use of social media, confrontational style, and borderline antics have made her a star for young left-wing activists. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the broader public became aware of her, but it’s probably right around the time she made headlines in a catfight with conservative activist darling Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) last spring. It began with Taylor Greene insulting Crockett’s fake eyelashes. The Texan responded in turn, asking Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), “If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody's bleach-blonde, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”“A what now?” a deeply out-of-his-element Comer replied. And the rest was history, so long as you consider it history to record videos dancing with her tongue out in the halls of Congress; to call for knocking Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) “over the head, like, hard, right? Like, there is no niceties with him, like at all”; say Elon Musk had to be “taken down”; and accuse black Republicans of not being black any more.If Crockett didn't exist, conservative media would have to create her. Still, her aggressive tactics and style have earned her a following with voters angry over Democrats’ national failures and perceived sheepishness in the face of Trump’s popularity. She’s not the most likely to win leadership on a committee that historically values seniority over activist popularity, but she could take votes from fellow CBC member Mfume.Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.): Last but not least, we come to Garcia, a 47-year-old foreign-born progressive, more closely aligned with the Squad than other contenders.Garcia came to Congress with the same class as Crockett and instantly gained attention for snubbing the Bible, instead taking his oath of office on a copy of the Constitution, a picture of his parents, and the first issue of “Superman,” borrowed from the Library of Congress. How progressive!Back in the real world, though, Garcia rarely passes up a progressive cause. He joined the long line of politicians who flew to El Salvador to defend illegal-immigrant gang members Trump deported. He also never misses a chance to highlight his status as one of the first openly gay figures to do this or that — quick to lead with identity when it serves his agenda. How much will this mean in a committee vote, however? Probably less than you’d think. That doesn’t mean Garcia doesn’t have a bright future, however. That is, if his side wins the party’s civil war.Beltway Brief, Dec. 2024: Who will win the battle for the Resistance 2.0?Sign up for Bedford’s newsletterSign up to get Blaze Media senior politics editor Christopher Bedford’s newsletter.
