Saturday was supposed to be a turning point for Malphine Fogel’s mission to free her son from a Russian prison. The 95-year-old was set to take the stage with former President Donald Trump at the latter’s rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Prior to the event, Fogel spoke with Trump about her son, Marc, who is three years into a 14-year prison sentence he received for possessing medical marijuana, for which he had a prescription from an American doctor. Vicki Iseman, a spokeswoman for Free Marc Fogel, was with Malphine at the event. “We were dancing and we were swaying,” Iseman recalled. “It was a real moment of joy in a woman’s life who does not have any moments of joy.” Less than a half hour later, Fogel and Iseman watched from the VIP section as shots were fired at Trump who was about 25 feet away. Along with Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick and Republican Reps. Mike Kelly and Dan Meuser, Parnell helped get Fogel on the ground, Iseman said. Fogel, a Butler County native, has fought for her son’s freedom since his 2022 detention. According to Iseman, the Fogel family has largely been ignored by the Biden administration, despite President Joe Biden strongly advocating for the release of basketball player Brittney Griner, who was also detained in Russia for marijuana possession. Malphine Fogel had not heard from Marc for three weeks prior to Saturday’s rally. But that morning, Marc called his mother. Iseman recorded a message from Marc, which she hoped to play for Trump. “I am just in urgent need of being with my family and I’m in urgent need of somebody that has the bravery and power to get something done,” Marc said in the recording, in which he also thanked Trump for taking the time to “hear my mother’s thoughts and prayers.” As Trump saw Fogel walking towards him on Saturday, the former president extended his arm to help her walk. “She took his arm and she said, ‘I am the mother of Marc Fogel,’” Iseman recalled. “And she had two things she wanted to ask him: to have his commitment to have her son designated as wrongfully detained and to bring him out.” Fogel has long advocated for her son to receive the status of “wrongfully detained,” which would empower the U.S. government to use financial support to assist Marc with medical and other needs. Trump told Fogel he would bring her son home if he became president, Iseman said. “He was looking at a woman who was 95 years old who hasn’t seen her son—and if she doesn’t see him soon—she may never see him again and he knew what was in the balance there,” Iseman said, adding that Trump also promised to talk about Marc during his remarks. But before Trump had a chance to mention the Fogels and their fight, he was grazed by a would-be assassin’s bullet. In the chaos that ensued, Iseman witnessed the VIPs seated near Fogel spring into action. “They were the most important people there besides President Trump,” Iseman said, recalling that Kelly, Parnell, and the others refused to evacuate with their staff until Fogel was safe. “They said they were not leaving Mrs. Fogel here,” Iseman said. “Those are heroes.” Rep. Kelly “went over us like a blanket,” Iseman recalled, saying she still gets “chills when I think about it.” “He would have taken a bullet.” As the group evacuated, Kelly helped Fogel walk more than 15 minutes to a car, even though his family was in attendance at the event. (Photo: Courtesy) “There’s something very sweet and basic about it,” Iseman said in tears, recalling congressman’s kindness. “This isn’t ‘oh is there a camera here’ [or] I’m helping a little old woman cross the street because I am doing a campaign commercial…’ this was very raw.” After the event, Malphine Fogel spoke to Marc, who expressed concern that his mother had to witness the assassination attempt, ABC 4 reports. Marc Fogel was arrested in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport for carrying half an ounce of marijuana that was prescribed by an American doctor to treat his chronic back pain. Fogel was returning to Russia to teach history at the Anglo-American School of Moscow, which the Russian government designated a “foreign agent” and shuttered in 2023. The Fogel family has stepped up their push to free Marc since campaign season began, hoping a presidential candidate could use their platform to call for his release. While the family is encouraged Trump will still make a public push to help, they still have heard next to nothing from Biden. They say time is running out as Fogel’s medical condition continues to worsen in the prison. What is Marc? A teacher from western Pennsylvania. What is in it for Biden?” Parnell added that Biden has become “far too comfortable with leaving Americans behind,” referencing the messy withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the Americans taken hostage by Hamas. “Leaving Marc behind is just par for the course for Biden,” Parnell said. “Trump saying something on that stage would make a difference — even if he is not president — because Putin would’ve heard about it in two hours,” Parnell added. “His words have power, so it meant a hell of a lot to her.” After three years of silence from the Biden administration, Iseman expressed that Vogel having Trump’s promise and two congressmen risking their lives to save her finally made her feel heard.

Actor Joe Manganiello refutes claims that his marriage to “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara ended because he wanted to have children, but she didn’t. Vergara is the one who made the claims following the end of the couple’s seven year marriage. “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara told Spanish newspaper El País in January. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.” Now Manganiello, 47, says that’s “simply not true.” “We did try to have a family for the first year and a half. And we had a huge conversation right out of the gate during the first month we dated,” he told Men’s Journal in a recent interview published Tuesday. “I said, ‘If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.’ But that wasn’t the case with her. And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t.” Manganiello admitted wanting to have children but insisted that “wasn’t inevitably why everything ended.” “It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens,” the “True Blood” actor told the outlet.  “To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone’? ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA—For nine months, Palestinian protesters have camped out around the clock in front of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s home, pouring fake blood on the ground and shrieking at the top of their lungs in the middle of the night. The protests may violate several Virginia laws. But the local prosecutor in Arlington—the only person with the authority to enforce those laws—has declined to do so. Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti told The Daily Wire in an email that “Based on the facts and circumstances shared by the ACPD, there is no basis in the law to charge the demonstrators.” Dehgani-Tafti, an Iranian-American former public defender with no prosecutorial experience who was elected Arlington’s prosecutor with the help of hundreds of thousands of dollars from George Soros, declined to discuss what legal reasoning had led her to believe that the facts did not meet the threshold of the law. But several state and local ordinances prohibit the kind of late-night disruptions and disruptive activities the protestors engage in, and frequently document on social media. Dehgani-Tafti’s refusal to prosecute the protesters comes as public figures face increasingly incendiary rhetoric and threats. Pro-Palestinian protesters have pushed the bounds of accepted political activism by targeting officials at their family homes. The attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump further highlights the risks officials face. The most recent presidential candidate to be assassinated—Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.—was killed by a Palestinian angry at Kennedy’s “pro-Zionist” policies. Protesters have set up tents along the side of the narrow, secluded Chain Bridge Road and are occupying them around the clock with a rotating group. They have chronicled their behavior on video—posting, for example, video to Instagram on June 16 of them shouting at Blinken as he returned from an international trip at 3:30 a.m., while pouring red bottles of liquid onto the ground next to his car. “Bloody Blinken, butcher of Gaza,” they shouted. “I hate to break your bubble of imperialist delusion while you starve children to death and torture people in concentration camps but Israel has been charged with the crime of extermination!” The protestors have been camped outside of Blinken’s home for so long that, at one point, if one Googled “Kibbutz Blinken”—the protesters’ name for the encampment, which mocks Israeli communes—Blinken’s home address appeared, as if it were a restaurant or theme park attraction. Picketing or disrupting tranquility of home says that “Any person who shall engage in picketing before or about the residence or dwelling place of any individual, or who shall assemble with another person or persons in a manner which disrupts or threatens to disrupt any individual’s right to tranquility in his home, shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. Each day on which a violation of this section occurs shall constitute a separate offense.” According to the Arlington County Code, “It shall be unlawful for any person in a group of four or more persons to engage, during the nighttime, in yelling, wailing, shouting, or screaming such that the yelling, wailing, shouting or screaming is heard in any” residential area, and “Any violation of this chapter may be charged as a misdemeanor.” The code defines “nighttime” as 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Sumer Mobarak (@sumermob) State law section 33.2-1224 makes it illegal to place signs in a highway’s right-of-way or attach them to highway objects, and says no one may use a highway right-of-way without a permit. Under state law, anywhere with “camping units for periods of overnight or longer” is defined as a campground, requiring a permit, inspection, and sanitation facilities. Ashley Savage, a spokesman for the Arlington County Police Department, told The Daily Wire in an email that the department “is committed to ensuring individuals and groups can safely and peacefully demonstrate” and “at this time, there is no probable cause for a violation of a Virginia code section.” She said the department has only arrested two protestors: one who painted a yellow fire hydrant red, and a driver who repeatedly blew her horn and refused to show her driver’s license. Concrete barriers have been installed on the narrow roadway, and protesters set up their tents on that strip. When The Daily Wire visited the protest site in mid-June, the fire hydrant would have been difficult to access in the event of an emergency. Video from the protesters suggests that the government subsequently spent money modifying the fire hydrant to accommodate the protesters by adding an extension that elevates it above their materials and the barrier. Blinken’s road leads from Washington, D.C., to the toniest neighborhoods occupied by government employees, where protesters are met by a mix of reactions from passersby. Though the protest included more than a dozen people early on, when The Daily Wire visited only three people were on site: Sumer Mobarak, a protest leader, along with a white man in his 30s who declined to give his name, and a black woman who refused to speak. The man said that the protesters live in the tents and use the bathroom in buckets inside them. He said that they stop making noise at 9 p.m. because they are conscious that it is against Arlington law, and want the protest to continue for the long term. But shortly after The Daily Wire’s visit, the protesters shared video of them making noise well into the night on social media. The prohibition against picketing at people’s homes is one of many laws a new crop of leftist prosecutors has chosen to ignore. Precedent for not enforcing the law was established when leftist activists staked out the homes of conservative Supreme Court in the summer of 2022 to protest the Court’s anticipated reversal of Roe v. Wade. At the time, the marshal of the Supreme Court petitioned state and local leaders in Virginia and Maryland to enforce laws that would curb the protests. Fairfax County Chairman Jeff McKay replied that the law “is likely a violation of the First Amendment.” Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican, sought authority to enforce criminal law in cases where local prosecutors would not. His petition passed the Republican-controlled state house, but was blocked by the Democrat-controlled state Senate. In Maryland, Montgomery County police later arrested a man who had allegedly come to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his home. The Arlington County Police Department has not responded to a request for records of police activity on Blinken’s block, saying it would take 60 days to process. The protest site lies just barely on the Arlington side of the Arlington-Fairfax County border. Fairfax police provided records showing that on December 8, Arlington requested assistance with “10x protesters blocking the roadway right at the border between the two” jurisdictions. On January 26 of this year, they made record of “protesters gathering at night using air horns.” Outside Blinken’s home / Daily Wire Outside Blinken’s home / Instagram On January 28, another caller complained of “at least 20 people protesting” with bullhorns, vehicles “parked all over the road,” and protesters “yelling lots of profanity.” Fairfax police responded that “Arlington County PD has the lead on any enforcement action to be taken against protesters / Also, law against protesting at a residence has been deemed to be likely unconstitutional.” According to a lawsuit filed in federal court, the leader of “protests in front of the Israeli Embassy, and in front of the home of Secretary of State Antony Blinken” is Hazami Barmada, who has worked as a “strategy consultant for the United Nations.” A rabbi filed the lawsuit against Barmada in May alleging a “Hate Violation Based on Religious and/or Ethnic Identity” following a “physical attack on Rabbi Herzfeld while he was praying in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C.” The lawsuit says Barmada’s group blasted sirens more than 1,000 times louder than allowed by law at the rabbi, while Barmada’s group wore earplugs. In response, Barmada sought from a D.C. city judge—and was granted—a restraining order against the rabbi preventing him from coming near Barmada. The home address listed in the lawsuit for Barmada, who presents herself as a tent-dwelling radical, is a $1.5 million house with an indoor pool. One of the groups behind the protests at the Israeli Embassy and Blinken’s home is the Palestinian Youth Movement, which is bankrolled in part by the Bafrayung Fund, tax records show. The director of the new “Twisters” movie explained why he chose not to make the film a statement on climate change. The summer blockbuster, a sequel to the 1996 hit action film “Twister,” features a group of storm chasers coming in close contact with deadly tornadoes in central Oklahoma. Director Lee Isaac Chung told CNN that the film isn’t meant to preach. “I just wanted to make sure that with the movie, we don’t ever feel like (it) is putting forward any message,” he told the outlet. “I just don’t feel like films are meant to be message-oriented.” “I think what we are doing is showing the reality of what’s happening on the ground … we don’t shy away from saying that things are changing,” Chung added. “I wanted to make sure that we are never creating a feeling that we’re preaching a message, because that’s certainly not what I think cinema should be about. I think it should be a reflection of the world.” So far, “Twisters” has received mostly positive critical reviews ahead of its July 19 release. It currently has a 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with one reviewer calling it an “entertaining, thrilling blockbuster.” “With its peppy cast, streamlined story and about a bazillion pixels’ worth of VFX cyclones to sweep you back in your seat, it’s a fun and refreshingly old-school night at the pictures,” the Time Out reviewer wrote.  Film star Glen Powell discussed his connection to the prequel starring Helen Hunt and the late Bill Pullman, calling it “a movie that obviously we all care about.” “I think that’s made this thing even more meaningful,” the 35-year-old actor said, per Yahoo Entertainment. “[Twister] is a movie that really meant a lot to me as a kid, you know, growing up in Texas, it’s a movie that felt very … just very much a story of kind of the community I grew up around and the people I grew up around.” He added, “It’s really the wish fulfillment of this business when you can make entertainment emotionally meaningful to yourself and to everyone. With this in mind, the FDA recently announced a recall on 6,900 pounds of hot dog products after a discovery was made by the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Turns out, they “investigated and determined that the hot dog products were produced and distributed without the benefit of federal inspection.” But why does that matter exactly? It’s because this is a highly important step in the food production process. During these inspections, the FSIS ensures that products are safe for consumption. The most common reasons for unsafe products includes undeclared allergens, food-borne illnesses, and the presence of foreign objects. Thankfully, no reports of illnesses have been reported with these hot dog products. According to the recall announcement, these products were not sent to grocery stores — rather, they were sent to restaurants and hotels. As a result, these companies are being told to not serve these products to customers. Instead, they should be thrown away or returned to their place of purchase.
