Star Surfer Bethany Hamilton to Speak at March for Life

World-famous surfer Bethany Hamilton will deliver the keynote speech at the March for Life in January, the organization’s president announced Thursday.  Jeanne Mancini announced Hamilton’s appearance during a briefing by the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, saying the evangelical Christian surfer will speak Jan. 24 at the annual pro-life rally on the National Mall as well as at the Rose Dinner Gala.  The March for Life is thrilled to announce our keynote speaker for the 2025 March for Life Rally and Rose Dinner: Bethany Hamilton! At the age of 13 as a rising surf star, Bethany lost her left arm to a 14-foot tiger shark, which seemed to end her dream career. But one month… pic.twitter.com/29CvqkxUMA— March for Life (@March_for_Life) October 10, 2024 “We have had some national athletes before, more football players, so this is the first time we will be having a female athlete speak at the March for Life,” Mancini said. “Even just that will be incredible.”   Hamilton will speak between noon and 1:30 p.m., just after a concert in the same space by the Christian rock band Unspoken.  Past speakers at the March for Life include athletes such as the Baltimore Ravens’ Matt Birk and former NFL player Benjamin Watson.   Mancini said the March for Life had been seeking to book Hamilton as a speaker for “many, many years” and organizers are “delighted” to have her now.   “She’s very pro-life, a mother of three, and is very committed to this cause,” Mancini said. “So we’re delighted to bring her to the stage this year. She and her family are coming all the way from Hawaii.”   Hamilton lost her left arm in a shark attack at age 13 while a rising surf star, as documented on her website. She is still a professional surfer.  A popular movie, “Soul Surfer,” was made about her life starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, and Kevin Sorbo. AnnaSophia Robb played Hamilton.  The Christian surfer refused to compete in the World Surf League in 2023 due to the league’s decision to allow men to compete in women’s sports, The Daily Signal reported.   Jackie Kane, executive vice president of March for Life, said that having Hamilton speak could bring more young women into the pro-life movement. But, she said, Hamilton also “speaks more broadly to the movement as a whole,” including older generations.   “I know she is very popular with the younger generation, with my kids, and we’re thrilled to have her joining us for that reason,” Kane told The Daily Signal. “But also because I think she speaks more broadly to the movement as a whole because of her story of embracing her own challenges and her own dignity and worth and ability to achieve greatness, despite any obstacles in the way.”  “She has a natural testimony that provides her own witness to human dignity and then her family,” Kane added.  Kane told The Daily Signal that the event organizers seek to engage more young Americans, but that Hamiton speaks to others too.   “I think that as a mother and as somebody who has been a part of these movies that all the younger women watch … she’s going to speak to the middle generation and the older generations as well,” Kane said of Hamilton. “I think she’s going to have a broad reach.”   Also during the briefing, the March for Life Education and Defense Fund announced that the theme for the 52nd annual  event will be “Every Life: Why We March.”   Mancini described the theme as “returning to the basics” and said the social media hashtag for the event, #WhyWeMarch, was designed to encourage people to tell their stories.   “Why do you march? Why are you pro-life?” Mancini said. “That’s really the question underneath, and the personal stories are very moving.”   March for Life 2025 ThemeEvery Life: Why We March pic.twitter.com/chjisypOBQ— March for Life (@March_for_Life) October 10, 2024 Another reason organizers picked the theme “Every Life: Why We March,” Kane said, is because the march is a place where all generations gather.   “It’s really kind of the one place you can think of where people who have been your grandmother may have been marching, your mother, your daughter, your children,” Kane told The Daily Signal. “I mean, this is a place where every generation can coalesce.”   Some other themes from previous marches include “Love Saves Lives”, in 2018, and last year’s “Next Steps: Marching Into a Post-Roe America.”   The post Star Surfer Bethany Hamilton to Speak at March for Life   appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Why union workers are abandoning the Democratic Party

Scott Sauritch, the president of United Steelworkers Local 2227, drew significant public attention recently when he told a writer for the New Yorker that despite being a longtime Democrat, he would be voting for Donald Trump in November. He also said that most of the current rank-and-file members of the union planned on doing the same.“I don’t care what you see on TV,” Sauritch said. “The grunts in the lunchroom love Trump.”Union members seek fair wages, safe working conditions, and respectful treatment. Unfortunately, their leaders seem more focused on personal gain.It isn’t just the steelworkers making the jump to Trump. Poll after poll indicates that he is the clear favorite among members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. It’s little wonder why union members are running away from Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party. Democrats, who receive more than $1 billion in political and election help from the unions every cycle, have been more than willing to turn their backs on corrupt union bosses’ abuse of the rank and file, and the rank and file have noticed.Take how Harris recently endorsed the high-profile strike led by Harold Daggett, the boss of the International Longshoremen’s Association.Daggett, who reportedly makes $900,000 a year in salary and bonuses, has threatened to “cripple” the economy if he doesn’t get the money and contract terms he demands. This Bentley-driving union boss, whom the Department of Justice accused of being an “associate”’ of the Genovese crime family, doesn’t care about his union workers who want to get back to work and provide for their families — he just cares about lining his pockets.Yet despite how out of touch Daggett and the ILA (which provided 100% of its 2023-2024 PAC money and 97% of its 2021-2022 funds to Democrats) are with the union’s rank and file, Harris and other Democrats have chosen to unapologetically rally behind the unsavory union leader. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in Washington state rejected a generous 30% pay increase for its members and called for a strike, demanding a 40% raise. Instead of joining the picket line, the fat and happy union leaders went on a vacation to a beach in Mexico.Talk about being out of touch with their dues-paying members, who would be thrilled to receive such a massive pay hike. Yet far-left politicians like Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) have publicly supported the union bosses’ tactics. In late August, the U.S. Justice Department indicted two former presidents of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers for embezzling $20 million from members. Additionally, two former leaders of the United Auto Workers recently received prison sentences of more than two years for corruption. Despite these charges, Democratic politicians refused to condemn the leaders of these unions, which direct 98% and 100% of their political contributions to the Democratic Party. They also failed to advocate for protections for the union members betrayed by their leadership. Even support for right-to-work laws, which would allow workers to leave a corrupt union without risking their jobs, went unmentioned.Union members seek fair wages, safe working conditions, and respectful treatment. Unfortunately, their leaders seem more focused on personal gain, treating their members as tools for their own enrichment.Democratic politicians aren’t stupid. They understand all this but are all too willing to ignore this exploitation, unapologetically supporting these union leaders to keep their political gravy trains going. With progressive politicians being quick to side with the corrupt union bosses who fund their campaigns, it’s no wonder so many exploited union members want nothing more to do with Harris and the Democratic Party. It’s only a matter of time before the political consequences of this unholy alliance smack them right in the face come election time. And only then might we finally see this alliance start to break.

Marshawn Lynch hints at possible run for mayor of Oakland in podcast with Gov. Gavin Newsom

Former NFL running back superstar Marshawn Lynch hinted that he was thinking about running for the mayor of Oakland, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) supported the idea. Lynch and Newsom suggested the idea during a podcast with his longtime agent, Doug Hendrickson. The current mayor of Oakland is embroiled in scandal following an FBI raid of her home and two recalls. 'That’s how I would be coming through there ... slapping the s**t out of everybody, like, "Get your s**t together."' Newsom revealed that he had seen local polling that showed Lynch was very popular among Oakland residents. “I am privy to information that has not become public,” said the Democrat. He said the polling showed 43% of Oakland residents had a favorable opinion of the Super Bowl champion while only 7% said they had an unfavorable opinion of him. When pollsters read his biography to respondents, his favorability increased to 61%, even though his unfavorability increased as well. “That’s off the charts, brother,” Newsom added. “7% unfavorable? That never has happened in my life.” Lynch joked that his mayoral behavior would follow that of a character in the movie "Head of State." “Do you remember when Bernie Mac was walking through, when he was slapping the s**t out of everybody?” Lynch asked. “That’s how I would be coming through there ... slapping the s**t out of everybody, like, ‘Get your s**t together.’” Newsom cited another strong narrative in Lynch's favor as a mayoral candidate. “He’s not asking for anything,” the Democrat said. “He’s offering something.” Lynch was outspoken in his support for the national anthem kneeling protest in 2017.
