Joe Biden Keeps Rewarding the Terrorists

Peace is for suckers. Even as Israelis were rooting out the barbaric child murderers and rapists of Hamas‚ President Joe Biden was trying to bully the Jewish state into repaying the Palestinians with a new state. Now‚ the State Department is reportedly fast-tracking recognition of an “independent” Arab state‚ which not only promises to envelop Israel in a three-front terror fight but also pull the United States into a needless quagmire. Then again‚ for Biden‚ rewarding terrorists is a matter of policy. If this administration‚ for instance‚ had explicitly promised to help Iran enhance its position in the Middle East‚ what would it have done differently? Only a few days after the inauguration‚ Biden brought back special envoy Rob Malley to spearhead negotiations with the Islamic state. Now‚ there are many problems with Malley‚ but the biggest one is that he negotiates for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rather than the U.S. Iran has spent decades kidnapping and murdering Americans. So‚ a month after Malley’s hiring‚ the Biden administration took Iranian proxies‚ the Houthis‚ off the State Department foreign terror designation list. Then‚ as Barack Obama did‚ Biden released billions to strengthen the deteriorating terror regime and its Revolutionary Guard. It wasn’t just ransom. Iranians‚ supposedly under U.S. and EU sanctions‚ were able to boost oil production to a five-year high last year—which amounts to an extra $10 billion. All this did was incentivize Iran to further destabilize the region. Iranian proxies have attacked American troops at least 151 times during the Biden years. Last week‚ three U.S. soldiers were murdered by the regime. Add those lives to the over 600 servicemen murdered by Iran over the past 20 years. The White House spent the week propping up the president and incessantly discussing how we were going to respond. At the same time‚ it stressed we “don’t want war” with Iran. Of course‚ we don’t want war. We also don’t need to sound like a pathetic‚ middling power. But I don’t care if you’re a neocon‚ an isolationist‚ or anything in between; there need to be repercussions for murdering Americans. Tehran should be terrified of what comes next. I doubt it is. And while Biden was boosting Iran’s fortunes‚ he was also empowering its allies in Hamas. Former President Donald Trump bypassed the intractable Palestinians‚ giving Israel space to make peace with most of the Sunni Arab world. Iran was increasingly isolated and weakened. The first thing the Biden administration did was place Palestinians at the center of Middle East policymaking. Biden overturned Trump-era policy‚ releasing hundreds of millions of dollars of funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency and the Palestinians. At the time‚ Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed it was critical for “Israeli-Palestinian understanding‚ security coordination‚ and stability.” Really‚ he might as well have written some checks directly out to Hamas. United Nations employees in Gaza‚ whom Washington had long known were actively assisting the terror group‚ directly participated in killing Jews on Oct. 7—including‚ people often seem to forget‚ 30 U.S. citizens. At least half of the U.N. staff in Gaza is attached to organizations designated terrorists by the United States government. Indeed‚ any “independent” Palestinian territory is going to be a terror state. History is remarkably clear on this point. Even the Palestine Liberation Organization‚ propped up by Western aid and Israeli security in the “West Bank‚” hasn’t been able to hold a real election in over a decade because Islamists would inevitably take control. If Israel can’t stop weapons from infiltrating Gaza now‚ what does the situation look like when it is dealing with an “independent” state? What does it look like when Iran becomes a nuclear power? What does it look like when the Islamic Jihad—or whatever group pops up to take its place—begins lobbing rockets at civilians? Israel will be compelled to act. Next time‚ it would be invading a territory recognized as a sovereign state by the U.S. To allay these fears‚ the State Department promises it will only move forward “with real security guarantees for Israel.” We are in no position to offer security assurances to Israel. We can’t even close our own borders. The Biden administration‚ in fact‚ already opposes the creation of a security buffer zone within Gaza to prevent more attacks. Now‚ there are those‚ like the president‚ who maintain that the people of Gaza aren’t responsible for the actions of Hamas‚ even though most polls find overwhelming support for violent Islamic fundamentalism. Fine. If that’s really the case‚ there should be no problem asking the Palestinians to take the next five to 10 years to build a civilization that proves it can live peacefully with its neighbors—like hundreds of other ethnic minorities in the world who don’t have the benefit of the world’s attention. Then again‚ maybe if they all started blowing up Jews‚ the West would propose giving them a state‚ as well. The Daily Signal publishes a variety of perspectives. Rip Curl Brand’s Wipeout Over Transgender Surfer Shows Fed-Up Americans Are Winning

It’s been a week to forget for surf company Rip Curl‚ the latest brand to risk consumers’ wrath with a pro-transgender marketing campaign. Its January post urging people to meet “waterwoman” Sasha Lowerson‚ a biological man in a bikini‚ lit a literal fire under fans‚ who took to the internet to burn everything from surf booties to boards. Days after deleting the reel‚ with international outrage at a peak‚ headquarters decided to do something that Bud Light still hasn’t: apologize. In a revealing move‚ management issued a mea culpa late Wednesday night‚ just five days into the dust-up. “Our recent post has landed us in the divisive space around transgender participation in competitive sport‚” a spokesman told Shop-Eat-Surf late Wednesday night. “We want to promote surfing for everyone in a respectful way‚ but recognize we upset a lot of people with our post and for that‚ we are sorry. To clarify‚ the surfer featured has not replaced anyone on the Rip Curl team and is not a sponsored athlete.” If Americans want to know who’s winning the war with corporate bullies‚ look no further. A reversal like this is majorly significant—not only because of how intense the backlash was‚ but how quickly executives responded. If anything‚ the wave of corporate pushback that was sparked by Bud Light has only intensified over time. In fact‚ it’s so powerful that even the media is starting to admit that the grassroots may actually be winning this fight. “Big corporates may finally be learning that ‘Go woke‚ go broke’ is real‚” commentator Nicolle Flint pointed out.  “ … [T]he once iconic Australian surf brand is living proof that women are finally fighting back against companies using transgender women to promote products for women and girls‚” she wrote. “What is most significant about the Rip Curl campaign featuring Sasha Lowerson that was removed from Instagram just five days after being posted‚ is that this is the first time a major brand has responded to female backlash. … Whether the company ‘woke up’ soon enough to the fact that the backlash from women was serious and potentially financially damaging remains to be seen.” That’s a blow to the company’s relatively new CEO‚ who‚ pre-Bud Light‚ told The Sydney Morning Herald of Australia when she was hired in 2021 that her goal was to drift left. “You still want to be cool enough to recruit that next generation‚” Brooke Farris said‚ “but I think by approaching it from a place of inclusivity‚ people will be attracted to that.” Turns out‚ people were not attracted to that—and willing to sink her brand to prove it.  Meanwhile‚ Bethany Hamilton‚ the courageous face of Rip Curl from 1999 to 2023‚ is surely looking on with satisfaction. A year into her renewed contract with the company‚ the two sides abruptly parted ways last year‚ almost certainly because of Hamilton’s opposition to the new rules allowing biological men to compete in women’s surfing. The devoted Christian and shark-attack survivor‚ whose comeback story inspired the world‚ reiterated her stand at the height of the Rip Curl controversy‚ posting‚ “Male bodied athletes should not be competing in women’s sports. Period.” Male-bodied athletes should not be competing in female sports. Period.— Bethany Hamilton (@bethanyhamilton) January 29‚ 2024 Amazingly‚ those mainstream views have still made Hamilton a public target. Most recently‚ a mob of LGBT activists tried—but failed—to have her disinvited from a speaking engagement at a Wisconsin fundraiser for underserved girls. In a three-page missive signed by 200 trans allies‚ they demand that The Women’s Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation take “all possible steps to remove and replace Bethany Hamilton as ‘Power of the Purse’ keynote speaker‚” lest she creates more “discrimination‚ distrust‚ division‚ and harm.” In another sign that activists are fighting a losing battle‚ the foundation refused to be intimidated. Leaders released a statement to local outlet WHBY radio insisting the event will go on as planned.  “Over the years‚ the Women’s Fund Power of the Purse event has hosted a wide range of powerful speakers from all backgrounds‚ whose diverse experiences and perspectives have imparted impactful lessons of hope‚ and perseverance—and Bethany Hamilton is no different. “Both a world-renowned athlete and survivor‚ Ms. Hamilton will share her own story with our community of overcoming obstacles‚ facing fears and triumphing as an individual. Although her scheduled appearance has been met with some criticism due to her reported personal views on transgender athletes … we still very much believe her inspirational message of determination and resilience can transcend our differences.” For a corporate culture used to flaunting its extremism without consequences‚ Rip Curl’s regret proves one thing: There are choppy waters ahead for woke business. How to Ensure a Big‚ Ugly War With Iran

How to Ensure a Big‚ Ugly War With Iran

Iran-backed militias have attacked American installations and forces in Syria‚ Iraq‚ and Jordan some 170 times. Ostensibly‚ these terrorist groups claim they are hitting U.S. forces to coerce America into dropping its support of Israel and demanding a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. In reality‚ these satellite terrorists are being directed in a larger effort by Iran to pry the U.S. out of the Middle East‚ in the manner of the 1983 Marine barracks bombing. That way‚ Iran will be free to fulfill its old dream of becoming a nuclear shield for a new Shiite-Persian terrorist axis from Tehran to Damascus to Beirut to the West Bank and Gaza—surrounding Israel and intimidating the Gulf regimes and more moderate states such as Jordan and Egypt into concessions. These Iranian appendages have made a number of unfortunately correct assumptions about America in general and the Biden administration in particular. One‚ after the recent serial humiliations of America’s flight from Afghanistan‚ the passivity of watching a Chinese spy balloon traverse with impunity the continental United States‚ the mixed American signals on the eve of the Ukraine war‚ the troubled Pentagon’s recruitment and leadership lapses‚ and the destruction of the U.S. southern border‚ both Iran and its surrogates feel that the United States either cannot or will do much of anything in response to their aggression. They see the U.S. military short thousands of recruits‚ its leadership politicized‚ its munition stocks depleted by arms shipments to Ukraine and Israel‚ and the massive abandonment of weapons in Kabul. Two‚ they view President Joe Biden’s serial appeasement as a force multiplier of these perceptions of American weakness. After entering office‚ the Biden administration begged for a renewed Iran nuclear deal from a preening theocracy. It sought to ensure calm by delisting the Houthis from global terrorist designations and sending hundreds of millions of dollars to Hamas and radical Palestinians to buy good behavior. Biden may have agreed that Iran was the spider in the center of the Middle East Islamic terrorist web‚ but only thereby to win it over with bribes such as lifting embargoes and sanctions to ensure an Iranian windfall of $90 billion or more in oil sales revenue. Biden greenlighted a bribery payment of $6 billion to Iran to return American hostages‚ thereby ensuring more will be taken. The Biden administration loudly distanced itself from the Netanyahu government. The gulf encouraged radicals to believe they could coerce Israel into accepting radical Islamic states on the West Bank and Gaza. Three‚ after hitting American stations and bases 170 times and seeing little sustained‚ much less disproportionate‚ responses‚ Iran and its satellites now feel they are winning proxy wars with the U.S. They have all but shut down the Red Sea as an international shipping route—damaging Europe‚ Egypt‚ and Israel‚ which all depend on Red Sea commerce for vital imports and exports. Iran has forced Biden to publicly alienate the Netanyahu government and push a cease-fire down Israel’s throat. And it has helped to spark international pro-Hamas protests throughout Europe and the U.S. that timid and compliant left-wing governments fear could lose them close elections. But most damaging are Biden administration spokesmen who mouth the same empty script after each serial attack: 1) The U.S. will respond at the time and place of its own choosing; 2) The U.S. finds no direct evidence of Iranian involvement‚ although it clearly has supplied the attackers; 3) The U.S. does not wish a wider war and has no plans to attack Iran itself. Translated to our enemies‚ it means an 80-year-old non-compos-mentis president is in no position to prevent‚ much less win‚ a theaterwide Middle East war that his own serial appeasement has now nearly birthed. Biden and the Democratic Party know‚ as national security adviser Jake Sullivan pointed out just prior to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks on Israel‚ that the administration inherited a deterred and quiet Middle East. And then it blew up on their appeasing watch. Now they are terrified of a theaterwide conflict breaking out during an election year—a fact known to all of America’s Middle East enemies. Biden and company have forgotten the ancient wisdom that preparing loudly only for peace guarantees war. To prevent war‚ it should return to oil sanctions on Iran‚ embargo its banking transactions‚ slap a travel ban on Iran and its allies‚ cut off all aid to Hamas and the West Bank‚ and restore a true terrorist designation for the Houthis. U.S. officials must stop aimlessly babbling. If the Biden administration must speak‚ Washington should do so by conveying disproportionality and unpredictability. And if‚ and when‚ America were to strike‚ it should do so in silent and devastating fashion. When serially attacked‚ loudly responding that we will only proportionally strike back and wish no wider war will only ensure a big‚ ugly one.
